Nollywood actress, Victoria Inyama, has countered the opinion of her colleague, Anita Joseph, who over the weekend faulted statement made by some married women that their husbands raped them when they weren’t in the mood for sex.

Anita in a video made with her husband argued that a woman cannot claim her husband raped her if he had sex with her when she wasn’t in the mood. She opined that the body of a woman is the food of her husband and should be made available whenever he needs to feed on it.

Reacting to Anita’s video, Victoria said there indeed is a thing called Marital rape and that many married women have experienced and are still experiencing it. She said sex even in marriage should be with consent. She argued that forcefully having sex with a spouse is another act of domestic violence.

She said she has experienced marital rape and that it leaves so many women damaged.

Can a husband rape? Yes a husband can rape his spouse. It depends. Let me define it. Marital rape or spousal rape is the act of sexual intercourse with ones spouse without the spouse’s consent. The lack of consent is essential here because it does not need to involve physical violence. Marital rape is a form of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Husbands can rape wife. I do not know about wife raping a husband. The most important thing is consent is needed. A lot of women constantly raped in their marriage. They are so ashamed to even talk about it. I have experienced it and I am learning about it. The trauma and the damage it causes is beyond your understanding” she said

We Have Registered 900 Repentant Boko Haram Members – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has registered about 900 repentant Boko Haram members.

In a statement on Monday, NIMC said as a strategic partner in the effort at tackling the security challenges in the country, it will provide reliable and secure data of repentant Boko Haram members who have been reintegrated into society.

Aliyu Aziz, director-general of the commission, reiterated the agency’s readiness to provide “accurate, secured and verifiable data when needed”.

“The commission has the capacity to support the FG in the ongoing war against security challenges through its functional and world-class verification and authentication services residual in its modern and up-to-date database,” he said.

John Enenche, the coordinator of defence media operations, said NIMC is one of the agencies involved in the deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration process of ex-Boko Haram members.

Enenche said no repentant Boko Haram member will evade arrest if they renege on their pledge to give up arms, particularly with their data captured by NIMC.

“The National Identity Management Commission is one of the agencies involved in the DRR process capturing of all repentant Boko Haram combatants on its data making it easy for them to be traced in any unfortunate incident,” he said.

Enenche had said 603 repentant Boko Haram members would be reintegrated into their communities in July after the completion of their rehabilitation programme.

Senator Osinowo Adebayo popularly referred to as Pepperito, who is representing Lagos East district in the 9th National Assembly, is reportedly dead.

He is reported to have passed away on Monday 15th, as a result of complications from Coronavirus disease.

Adebayo Osinowo worked with the Federal Ministry of Works, Lagos State. In 1977, he started his career as a Land Officer at the Federal Ministry of Works till 1979, according to Wikipedia.

He then became the Managing Director at NITAL International from 1986 to 2003. He then became the Managing Director at NIMCO International Co. Ltd from 1990 to 2003. He also worked as Managing Director, at Extreme Piling and Construction Company Ltd and NIMCO Dredging Company from 1990 to 2003.

Osinowo began his political life in the second republic serving as a youth Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The state Chairman was late Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

Osinowo was a four times honourable in the Lagos State house of assembly. Osinowo contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly for Kosofe constituency and won.

In the February 23, 2019, Lagos East Senatorial District election, he was elected Senator, representing the Lagos East Senatorial District at the Nigerian National Assembly.

He was subsequently appointed as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries.

He died at the age of 65.

In Five Months 717 Rape Cases Recorded, 631 Cases Concluded – IGP Adamu

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, has disclosed that the force has for the first five months of the year, recorded about 717 rape incidents that were reported across the country, about 799 suspects have been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court while 52 cases are left and under investigation.

The IGP made the disclosure while briefing State House Correspondents, after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari which also had the ministries of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Women Affairs Development, Pauline Tallen, in attendance.

Recall that the Federal Government had at the last Federal Executive Council meeting, announced that it will take decisive action against rapists, henceforth, describing the upsurge as embarrassing.

As part of the measures, it has decided to push for the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPPA), 2015, in states, to ensure rapists face deserved punishment for their actions.

The Governors of the 36 states of the federation had also declared a state of emergency on gender-based and sexual form of violence.

According to the IGP, although the COVID-19 restrictions brought a surge in rape and gender based violence, the police has been tackling the scourge with the help of some non-governmental organizations and Civil Society Organisations working in the field.

The IGP said: “We are here to brief you on sexual and gender based violence and the action that the government has been taking, particularly the Nigeria Police.

“It has come to the public knowledge now that because of the COVID-19 restrictions, we have surge in cases of rape and gender-based violence. These are cases that are now coming up but we want to let members of the public know that, rape and gender based violence has been there. The law enforcement agents have been dealing with this cases, in most cases, members of the public are not aware of the actions that the law enforcement agents have been taking.

“The Nigeria Police so far from January-May 2020, we have recorded about 717 rape incidents that were reported across the country, about

799 suspects have been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court and 52 cases are left and under investigation.

“The police and other security agencies and other non-governmental Organisations have been collaborating, to see to it that these cases of rape and gender based violence are dealt with.

“The NGOs and CSOs that have the capacity to deal with this kind of offenses, have been cooperating with law enforcement agencies in capacity building, management of victims of rape and similar offenses and procedures for collecting evidence, towards successful prosecution.

“The government has taken the matter to another level now because of the scourge we have noticed.

“I will call on every Nigerian that has or comes across any victim of sexual offenses or rape or gender based violence, to quickly report to law enforcement agents. Because, keeping it without reporting it will give room for the perpetrators to continue to commitment the offenses.

“It is a very wicked offense, it is very serious offense, it is very wicked of an individual to engage in rape or defilement. And there are a lot of causes, some are doing it for ritual purposes, some are doing it because they are within the family and they see the victims and have the urge to go into it and do it. But such people should not be allowed to go scot-free.

“I am just to inform you that government is doing something about it and you can see me with the ministries of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Women Affairs Development, Pauline Tallen.

“From now onward, national partnership with every stakeholder is what we are going into now and not only within the country but within the subregion. We have to partner with organizations that are involved in this. We know we have been working seriously with UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) and other civil society organizations.

“So, just to tell you that government is doing something seriously to curtailed this type of offense.

Igbo Doctor Brutally Murdered And Set Ablaze In Zamfara

The Zamfara state police command says it has commenced an investigation into the death of Enoch Okpara, a medical doctor, who was killed and burnt by unknown assailants.

Okpara was a consultant obstetrics/gynaecologist who worked at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.

The doctor was found dead at his residence in Mareri area of Gusau, the state capital, on Saturday.

Shehu Mohammed, the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the state command, confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

He said Usman Nagogo, the Zamfara commissioner of police, has directed an investigation into the incident in order to arrest the perpetrators.

on Saturday afternoon,” he said.

“Due to the terrible nature of the killing, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Nagogo, ordered for immediate commencement of investigation into the matter.

“This is with a view to fish out the culprits and bringing them to book.”

Speaking on the incident, Mannir Bature, vice-chairman of the state’s chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), described the deceased as a “quiet gentleman”.

He said the doctor was discovered missing when he did not show up in church on Saturday morning which was unusual of him.

Bature said the church had to contact some of Okpara’s colleagues who tried his mobile phone number which rang repeatedly without response, thereby raising the alarm that something had gone wrong.

He said when his colleagues checked the house where the deceased lived alone, as his family was not in Zamfara, his car was seen parked inside the compound and so, drew the attention of the police to check-in.

According to Bature, the burnt body of the deceased was discovered in the courtyard while bloodstains were seen on the walls of the room.

Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, says the federal government is working on a research that involves using plasma from the blood of recovered COVID-19 patients to treat people infected with the disease.

Ehanire, who spoke on Sunday at a news conference to commemorate the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), said some research institutes were already working on the new study.

TheCable had reported how some survivors of COVID-19 were said to be donating their plasma in the hope that it would help infected people recover from the virus.

This was after Chinese medical experts suggested that severely ill COVID-19 patients could benefit from infusions of blood plasma collected from people who have recovered.

According to the Ehanire, plasma of patients who recovered from COVID-19 is called convalescent plasma.

“It is believed that persons who suffered COVID-19 and have recovered will have antibodies inside their plasma, which can be used to treat others,” Ehanire said.

“It can be used to treat others who are not able to build antibody fast enough or those who are suffering from a severe form of the virus.

“Yes, our research centres are participating in looking at what advantages and benefits can come out of convalescent plasma.

“I have seen this particular research in Lagos; it is part of what will be studied and the result will be published so research is going on it.’’

The minister asked Nigerians to donate blood to save the lives of those in need, adding that people should shun some myths surrounding blood donation.

“Myths are part of ignorance that education should fight and stakeholders are supposed to enlighten people on this issue, that your blood is something that can save somebody life,” he said.

“The blood is regenerated in your system; your body is stimulated to replace that blood donated so that blood that you donated, very soon, it is filled by your system.

“It is filled in such a way that a man can donate four times in a year while women can donate up to three times a year, provided they are tested fit.

“They can donate provided they are free of any sickness and provided they will not suffer any disadvantage from donating the blood.”

He said the ministry has been creating awareness on the need to donate, adding “donating blood provides availability of safe blood at hospitals and where they are needed”.

“Nobody knows who will be in need of blood at any time so we have been embarking on media campaign and awareness creation to increase the number of voluntary donors in the country,’’ he said.

“Four Killed” As Rain Destroys Roads In Kwara, Enugu

The downpour across the country led to the loss of at least four lives in Kwara and destruction of roads in Enugu during the weekend.

In the Oko Erin area of Ilorin, capital of Kwara, a car plunged into the river after a bridge was destroyed by a flood.

Erosion also destroyed a portion of Obinofia-Enugu-Onitsha link road in Enugu.
