“My Life In Danger” – Acting APC Chairman, Eta Cries Out

0

The leadership crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) took a more dangerous turn on Wednesday with the National Vice Chairman South-South, Hon. Hillard Eta, alleging threat to his life.

Eta, who is standing for acting national chairman, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, in a telephone call in Abuja, said some people were after his life.

The APC boss also said the party has obtained information some unidentified thugs and arsonists were being brought from Port Harcourt to burn the party secretariat in Abuja to blackmail the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to Eta: “We got information that they are going to send thugs from Port Harcourt. They are coming here to burn the Secretariat and make it look like the National Working Committee instigated a fire incident so that the Secretariat will be burnt down and then, they will give the impression that it is the NWC that is burning down the Secretariat because they (NWC) don’t want Victor Giadom to come in.

“They have two intentions, that is number one. Number two is that they are going to make an attempt on my life. I just thought that I should let the press know this.

“I am just moving out of my house, I’m coming to secretariat from there I will report to the police.”

On Tuesday, the party secretariat was sealed for about five hours by the Police.

His distress call came barely less than 24 hours when a detachment of policemen took over the party headquarters.

Minister of Transportation and Leader of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to the crisis rocking his party, APC at the national and state levels.

Amaechi, in a statement released by his media office, said he has decided to steer clear of the in-party politics because people know him as being blunt which sometimes can be misunderstood for arrogance.

Amaechi wondered why the crisis within the APC cannot be resolved, especially when all members of the party are “adults”.

“What is happening in APC, I don’t know; what is happening in Rivers State, I don’t know. What I’ve done is to keep away from politics. Even if I’m bothered, it’ll be internally.

“There’s nobody there (in the party) who is a child; we’re all adults. I don’t want to get involved in politics.

“Nigerians know me for being blunt and honest. Some see it as arrogance, some see it as being brash, whatever it is. What do I need to say that I have not said before? It’s internal dynamics of politics, it’s internal struggle.

“So, I have said it several times. When we fought in 2015, I said this country cannot continue the way it is going. I’m not helpless, but I’m doing what they call ‘Siddon look,”

“I believe that no matter how angry you are, no matter how institutions are manipulated, a judge once said ‘I’m allowed to be wrong, that’s why you have the court of appeal, that’s why you have the supreme court.’ So if you think that what the state judiciary is doing is wrong, then you go to the Court of Appeal, you go to the Supreme Court and ensure you exhaust the due process.”

There are more than 10 litigations bordering on the leadership crisis in the party at the Federal Capital Territory, Edo and Rivers states.

Nigeria Must Reciprocate Attack In Ghana – Reps

0

The house of representatives says Nigeria must reciprocate the attack on the country’s high commission in Ghana which it said was becoming a sad trend.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house, said showing “diplomatic maturity” by merely demanding an apology will not address the issue.

TheCable had reported how armed men demolished the staff quarters of the high commission which is still under construction.

A Ghanaian monarch later claimed the plot of land where the structure is located belongs to his community and that it is being forcibly taken away from them.

When Geoffrey Onyema, minister of foreign affairs, appeared before the House committee on foreign affairs on Tuesday, the speaker said some African countries have attacked the Nigerian state while the country looks the other way in the name of “brotherhood”.

He said: “Reciprocity is a legitimate instrument in foreign policy. And we can employ it, because if such had happened here in Nigeria, the individual will first approach the court to enforce his rights, and I want to believe that Ghana is a democratic country where laws apply, but this person didn’t use the law to do this. So it’s purely a predetermined attack on the Nigerian state

“In terms of visibility and otherwise of the property, I want to say that it is trite to understand that all countries exist through their embassies in other countries.

“So for that reason, Nigeria was attacked by Ghana, because if anything happens in Ghana, it’s the Nigerian high commission that Nigerians will run to and get protection due to the diplomatic immunity that it enjoys.

”Others may say that this is a sibling rivalry that is going on between Nigeria and Ghana, and we did nothing, but we must take a stand because this has gone beyond court processes as the minister said.

“This diminishes Nigeria as a state because it’s not a land dispute between Nigeria and any individual, but a diplomatic dispute between Nigeria and Ghana, which should be handled accordingly, because the person who did this did it under the colour of their law.

“South Africa did it, we kept quiet; Ghana has done it, and still, we are not doing anything, but we want to show diplomatic maturity of asking for an apology and claim damages. If this had happened to the British high commission in Ghana, all hell would have been let loose. I’m telling you this as a matter of fact.”

Onyema earlier called for calm over the demolition, saying talks are in progress to resolve the matter.
