I Drink Cow Urine Everyday – Bollywood Actor

1

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has revealed that he drinks cow urine daily, joining a growing number of Indians who believe it has medicinal benefits – including against the coronavirus.

Kumar is considered a staunch supporter of Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party, which has earmarked millions of dollars for research into products using bovine waste to cure diseases like diabetes and cancer.

There is no comprehensive scientific evidence of any medicinal benefits, but several politicians from Modi’s right-wing ruling party have advocated using the dung and urine to cure coronavirus.

The 53-year-old actor was promoting his appearance on a show with British television adventurer Bear Grylls, in which they drink tea made from elephant dung in an Indian tiger reserve.

“I was too excited to be worried. I have cow urine because of ayurvedic reasons every day, so that was okay,” Kumar said on a social media live chat posted Thursday.

Many Hindus believe cows are sacred and drink its urine for medicinal benefits.

Modi’s government created a ministry of Ayurveda and yoga, with Modi suggesting in June that yoga could help create a “protective shield” against the novel coronavirus.

COVID-19 has infected 4.6 million people in India and killed 76,000.

Even If You Cut Down Buhari’s Head, UN Won’t Give You Biafra – Uwazuruike

1

Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of BIM-MASSOB has stated that United Nations Will not give anyone Biafra even if they cut down President Muhammadu Buhari’s head.

Uwazuruike who stated this yesterday in Owerri, Imo State, while addressing directors of BIM-MASSOB organization, noted that non-violence self-determination has a process.

Reacting to the current news of prominent leaders from the North-Central geopolitical zone exiting from the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF and announced the formation of the North Central Peoples Forum, NCPF.

Uwazuruike said; “What is happening in the North now has just justified his assertion years back that when Nigeria will divide, Ndigbo will not play any role and the division of Nigeria will start from the North, ” Uwazuruike stated.

“When the Arewa youth leader, Yerima Shetima with his entourage and the middle belt youth leaders paid a solidarity visit to Biafra government at Owerri, our seat of power.

The gullible pro Biafra group who do not understand the principles and processes of non-violence agitations, and this group only exist on social media will be accusing him stating that Uwazuruike is winning and dinning with enemies of Biafra.

“They have been druming war beat with Nigeria government in the name freedom fighting.

See let me tell you : “United Nations cannot support you without Nigeria first releasing you, even if you kill president Buhari. Because Nigeria is a member state of United Nations. So they have to protect the interest of their member state,” Uwazuruike added.

“In analogy concept, this is like a master and his servants, even if it has reached the agreed time for him to settle you and he refuses. You do not need to quarrel or fight with him, even if you kill him in the process, it will not make the members of the family of your master to settle you because you killed one of them. But when you relate and associate well with your master even the members of family can as well advocate for your settlement with the concept of your master. This is how it is with Chief Ralph Uwazuruike and Nigeria government.

“If associating with my Northern friends wouldn’t have helped us to get Biafra, I wouldn’t have associated with them and if you look at it, they have been in support of what we are doing.

“We have radical Arewa people and Fulani people who wants Nigeria to divide peacefully despite Britain handing power over to them.

“There is Biafra, Oduduwa and now Middle belt has joined. When Nigeria will be fully divided, you will surprise to found out that those you think that they do not want Nigeria to divide will be the one telling you where and how Nigeria will be divided. So expect more shocking news of liberation from middle belt people, ” Uwazuruike revealed.

Food Prices Are Coming Down — Presidency

2

The Presidency on Friday says the prices of food items in the country are dropping as a result of the agricultural reforms of the regime of the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

Shehu was reacting to the President’s directive Thursday that the Central Bank of Nigeria should not release money for food and fertiliser importation henceforth.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in their reactions, warned that the directive could cause further inflation, saying the country was not sufficient in food production and still needed forex to import some food.

Speaking also on the TV programme on Friday, a senior lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Abuja, Dr Ahmed Adamu, faulted the timing of the policy because of the inflation already in the economy.

Adamu said, “It is also a wrong time because we have not built the right infrastructure and not supplied the right agriculture facilities and we have not built the entire agriculture value chain. We are also facing insecurity and a lot of farmers have been displaced from their farms and they cannot produce much. And now the government is discouraging cheap importation from other countries. It is going to create a lot of food scarcity in the country.

“Now we are seeing a high rise in the prices of food items in the country and this measure is going to increase the prices of food items further at a time when we just came out of COVID-19 lockdown.”

The scholar stressed that Nigerians should not be punished for the failure and inability of government and policy-makers to protect the naira, adding that the government’s decision is “a recipe for hyperinflation”.

According to him, consumers are rational and so the government needs to ask itself why the people prefer foreign food items.

“They know why they go for foreign food items – maybe because of quality, quantity or price. Instead of you to force Nigerians to buy things that they are not ready to buy, why don’t you make the local products become attractive to Nigerians by enhancing its quality, quantity and competitive price. These are things that we need to set in place before we force people because this actually is an aggressive measure,” Adamu added.

Reacting, Shehu said Nigeria’s land borders were closed not only to curb the importation of rice and other food products but to also curb the proliferation of small arms smuggled into the country to feed inter-communal crisis and banditry, amongst others.

The President’s spokesperson said, “To say the cost of food items is connected to the closure of the borders is absolutely wrong. And to say that the prices of food ain’t coming down, I think the scholar has detached himself from the market because we sat through the meeting of the National Food Security Council and we heard presentations by experts – people who had surveyed the markets.

“As of yesterday (Thursday) in the morning of the meeting, go and check the index in markets. For instance in Kano, millets that had gone up to N24,000 has now gone down to N12,000, N13,000. Rice that had been N25,000 is now N20,000. Corn, maize is now N18,000 for the old stock and N14,000, N15,000 for the new stock.

“So, to say that there is no change in the prices is to show one is completely detached from what is happening in the country.”

When told by the moderators of the programme that his position was contrary to the reality being faced daily by Nigerians on the streets, Shehu insisted, “As the Germans say, if you want to get the best of the weather, open the windows. My suggestions to the journalists who sit and write all of these numbers is, send your correspondents to the streets, go to the markets and find out.

“I didn’t say that all of the prices, the changes had crashed completely. They are coming down because the harvested items are coming into the market. Prices are coming down, they will continue to go down as more and more food items are harvested. It’s a seasonal thing and we are going to see through this as well.”

Ondo Fire: Over 5,000 Smart Card Readers Destroyed – INEC

1

Over 5,000 smart card readers are said to have been destroyed in the fire that engulfed the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akure, Thursday.

Confirming this on Friday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Amb. Rufus Akeju told newsmen that the inferno started at about 7:30pm after the office had been closed for the day.

According to him, 5,141 smart card readers were destroyed in the fire.

Mr Akeju stressed that things could have been worse, had it not been for the timely intervention of the men of the Ondo State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and fire service officials from Ilesa, Osun State.

At the time of reporting, the actual cause of the fire is yet unknown, but the REC assured that appropriate agencies are already investigating the incident.

The Commissioner also stated that the incident will not affect the coming election in the state, stressing that necessary arrangements are being put in place to replace the burnt materials.

The fire outbreak on Thursday comes only a few weeks to the October 10 governorship election in the state.

INEC’s Commissioner in charge of Information and Voters Education, Festus Okoye, told journalists at the scene of the incident that the fire affected the Information and Communication Technology section of the Commission.

Speaking further on the damaged materials, Mr Okoye revealed that about 1000 card readers delivered to INEC from Osun State were caught up in the flames alongside over 4000 card readers belonging to INEC in Ondo State.

He, however, assured that the inferno will not lead to the postponement of the polls.

DSS Invites Ex-CBN Deputy Gov Mailafia For Third Time

1

The Department of State Services, DSS has extended the third invitation to a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia.

Mailafia, who was the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Friday.

“It is true. I have been invited to their office in Jos. I was asked to appear at 11 am on Monday,” he said.

Mailafia, who is also being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force, got into trouble with security agencies for his interview on Nigeria Info 99.3FM wherein he claimed that a repentant terrorist told him that a northern governor was a Boko Haram commander.

The former deputy governor of the apex bank had also claimed that during the lockdown, weapons were distributed to several parts of the country, adding that terrorists had infiltrated Lagos.

He later withdrew his comment, stating that he got the information from a third party.

Last month, Mailafia had approached a High Court in Plateau State for the enforcement of his fundamental rights to personal liberty and fair hearing in a bid to prevent the police from arresting him.

However, it was learnt that the security agents were being prodded by the Federal Government to ensure that the economist is arraigned in court.

Mailafia said it was unfortunate that two security agencies were investigating him at the same time.

“This is one of the reasons why I am in court. I am being invited by the DSS and the police at the same time. It is an abuse of my rights,” he said.

Group Advises Ikpeazu On How To End Extra-judicial Killing Of Abians

1

A human right organization, Foundation for Environmental Right Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), has reacted to the irresponsible killing of Abians by security agents.

ABN TV reports that the group expresses worry that extra-judicial killing of people of the state by security agents has become a recurrent decimal.

The latest in this orgy of careless killings was the murder of an Abian by an officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in his home along Ikot Ekpene Road, Obingwa Abia State.

FENRAD in a statement issued on Thursday by the Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor and Head Legal Team, Barr. Olusegun Bamgbose counselled Ikpeazu to set up an Inter-ministerial Task Team on Extrajudicial Execution/other Security Issues as a matter of urgency.

The group stressed that the Team will gather the reports of the execution and follow it up till proper judgments and justice is served on the people it called happy trigger officers.

It says, “Going forward, FENRAD urges the Abia State government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (PhD), to as a matter of urgency, set up an Inter-ministerial Task Team on Extrajudicial Execution/other Security Issues, stressing that the Team will gather the reports of the execution and follow it up till proper judgments and justice is served on these happy trigger officers.

“FENRAD opined that this Task Team which will headed by the State Attorney General will liase with State Human Rights commission, Nigerian Bar Association,Human Rights Organization including the high command of these security agencies in stemming the tide of Extrajudicial Killings in the State.

“To this end do FENRAD calls for speedy and public trial of the named erring officers and as well publicity of same when done. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man; such hope now hinges on what the state justice machinery can do by keeping Abians abreast and also by ensuring speedy trial. FENRAD believes that justice is not farfetched as with the Attorney General who shall use his good offices to ensure that Abians are in the know with what is justice and what justice is in the stage for the collective good of Abians.”

The group also chronicled the long list of extra-judicial killings of the people of the state.

“FENRAD, A Rights Group that stands for an egalitarian and virile society contends that human life is precious and a such, the life of every citizen of Abia State should not be wasted by the security agencies: Police, Army, Civil Defense, among others, noting that these agencies are saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties .

“FENRAD says the most disheartening of these Extrajudicial Execution/other security issues in the state is that those security agents who perpetuate these acts are not properly investigated with a view to meting out proper punishment on them aside from arresting them and discharging them from service, pointing out that this cannot not be equated with the killing of a defenseless citizen.

“A case in hand is the various Extrajudicial Killings in Aba which up till today, proper judgment is yet to be served on these happy trigger officers. FENRAD adds that the reason why this Extrajudicial Killings has persisted is that these officers are not served with punishments that are in tandem with their offense.

“On April 5, 2020, during the state lockdown, FENRAD recalls that an officer of the Nigeria Police Force named Inspector Stanley Asu of the Abia State Command, who then was attached to Ohuru Isimiri Police Station Aba team enforcing the said lockdown shot a citizen identified as Mr. Chibisi to untimely death. The deceased, Mr. Chibisi, FENRAD gathers, was working with Green Mark Energy Filling Station near Oruruka off Ogbor Hill, Aba in Obingwa LGA on the said date. Equally does FENRAD remember the release from State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, declaring the incident as not “a deliberate act but a case of accidental discharge”. Though Inspector Stanley was in due time taken into custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), the last about him and his case has yet to be heard.

“Again, barely 10 days after the Oruruka incident, another tragic death occurred on April 15, 2020, when and where one Mr. Amobi Igwe, an indigene of Ishiagu in Ebonyi state was shot dead, this time by an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) named Eke Richard. The sad thing about this incident was the fact that Mr. Amobi Igwe, a driver, was reportedly said to be on essential duty conveying food stuff to place(s) of demand or need – as the Covid-19 protocols allowed – when this shocking event happened. Though Corps state commandant, Mr. Nnamdi Nwachukwu, denied that the said driver was carrying essentials as earlier reported, it beggars belief that fairness and justice are the rules rather than exception since he (Nwachukwu) failed to clearly establish that the driver was on an illegal duty. What, however, remains sad before the well-meaning Abians is the fact that since Eke Richard was taken into custody, again, nothing has been heard about his prosecution and trial except that like Stanley Asu, he too was remanded in the facility of State Criminal Investigation Department, State CID for short.

” FENRAD does not conveniently forget the brutal murder of Mr. Ifeanyi Friday Arunsi on Friday, April 17, 2020 in Ebem Ohafia which, sadly, triggered a public protest whereupon police station, public properties and chattels were set ablaze by an angry mob. Though it bemoans the ruckus and riot that followed the Ebem Ohafia killing, FENRAD cannot bring itself to believing that the said policemen were off duty on the fateful day as the release signed by former state commissioner of police posited. Why? The police officers who had altercation with Mr. Friday and his colleagues before returning to the scene of the mayhem to shoot Mr. Friday on that sad day were said to be “drunk”. FENRAD has not, to this day, understood why a police armourer would assign guns to drunk or off duty men of the Force and Command. Like the two cases earlier cited, nothing has been heard of these “drunk” officers to

“On the 8th of September, 2020, one Mr Onyekachi A. Nwogu allegedly gunned down by an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Inspector Robinson Otobong Abel (M), attached to the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Corps. Worrisome also, is the fact that Mr Onyekachi A. Nwogu was gunned down by the security agent right in front of his compound at Umuokoro Umuokpo Village along Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road, Abians, on the said day.

“Perturbed by this incident and many others in the past, FENRAD, is of the view that if proper judgement is served on these Officers, Extrajudicial Killings would be a reoccurring decimal in Abia State.”

“I Didn’t Come To Chelsea For 4th Position, I Came To Win” – Lampard

1

Frank Lampard says he joined Chelsea as manager “to win” and “thrives off the pressure” at the club.

Helped by billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea have been Europe’s biggest spenders so far with an outlay of £200m – and six major signings made.

The club were under a transfer ban last season, finishing fourth in the Premier League and losing in the FA Cup final against London rivals Arsenal.

Lampard said the arrival of the new players “changes the landscape”.

He said: “I didn’t come into the job to fight for fourth place or bring academy players in; I came here to win. Last year we couldn’t recruit and this year the club have made the decision to bring in players.

“It changes the landscape and we’re ready to work.”

Chelsea have brought in Germany international Kai Havertz for £72m, as well as compatriot Timo Werner for £48m and England international Ben Chilwell for £45m.

Moroccan Hakim Ziyech has also made the move to Stamford Bridge for £36m, while defender Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have joined on free transfers.

Last term, Lampard was forced to field a number of youngsters from the academy, with the club having been sanctioned by Fifa for breaching rules on signing young players, but expectations are now higher given the investment in the squad.

Lampard said: “The pressure on me to do better should be standard. I don’t want to talk about statements.

“Last year, we were very happy for Champions League places. We were very joined up in the business we wanted to do.

“I am surprised if you didn’t think I wasn’t under pressure last season. I thrive off the pressures. It’s what I love doing.”
