We’ll Resist Attempts To Declare State Of Emergency In South East, Ohanaeze Vows

2

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide says it has uncovered attempts to sack South-East governors to scheme them out of 2023 presidential contest.

The council further warned against any plan to declare state of emergency in the region, calling on the military to concentrate on insurgency and banditry ravaging the North before thinking of State of Emergency in Igbo land.

In a statement issued on Friday by the President General and Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike respectively, OYC says it does not condone attack on security agents.

Reacting to the recent clash between members of IPOB and DSS officers, Ohanaeze youths say any attempt to cash into the clash to undermine the powers of South East Governors by removing them through the back door will be resisted.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide had described the recent proclamations of Nigerian Military” that if there’s any more evidence of Killings of Security Agents by Biafra agitators in the Southeast Region could lead to declaration of State of Emergency” as an affront on the people of Southeast, and calculated attempts to create Confusion and tension in the Zone, inasmuch  as We are not in Support of any Killings of Igbos and Security Agents in Southeast.

“OYC had Urge the Military to Concentrate on the insecurity Challenges in the Northern region where bandits and Terrorist Organisations like Boko Haram insurgents had wreaked havoc and fear amongst Northerners, there’s heavy fighting over there in North East, We Urge Nigerian Army to declare State of Emergency in the North East before thinking of Southeast.

“Igbo Youths wish to Categorically advise Biafra agitators to maintain their original non-violence postures and avoid making inflammatory threats of Killings Security Agents in Reprisal attacks, Such decision will surely bring catastrophic consequences to the peaceful atmospheric environment we enjoy in the Southeast.

“OYC had Uncovered plots by Igbo external Detractors to Use the recent evidence of fallouts after Ipob clashed with Dss in Enugu to instigate the removal of Southeast Governors, which is part of the Rogue Operations to stop any of them from Contesting 2023 Presidential Elections, Igbo Youths are solidly behind the Southeast Governors, who had portrayed themselves as worthy servants of Igbo Nation.

“OYC countermands all directives of closure of Markets, banks, and offices in the Southeast Region, as any order that will bring untold hardship and Consequences to the people of Southeast will be surely resisted and Igbo Youths will resist attempts to undermine the Southeast Governors powers as Chief Security Officers of their States, and any nefarious activities to remove a democratically elected Governor Under the guise of declaration of State of Emergency in the Southeast Region,” OYC said.

[OPINION] Killing Of Onyedikachi Nwogu: That NSCDC Statement Is Worrisomely In Bad Taste – Eric Ikwuagwu

0

Following the sad and unfortunate killing of Onyedikachi Nwogu right in front of his house in Umuokpo Umuokoro village of Obingwa LGA of Abia State, we were shocked to read a statement attributed to the Akwa Ibom State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Mr Samuel Fadeyi, seeking to absolve the Command and the suspected murderer, NSCDC Officer Robinson Otobong, of blame.

According to Commander Fadeyi, who apparently was not at the scene of the crime and has not bothered to visit the scene to date, the deceased died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained when struggling to disarm the officer who was on a security escort with two Chinese expatriates.

The statement from Fadeyi reminds one of another incident on the 15th of April, 2020, involving another NCDC officer who shot and killed a bus driver conveying tomatoes at Umuikaa, Isiala Ngwa South LGA axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway which was also attributed to accidental discharge as a result of the dead person struggling for the gun of the NSCDC officer. This position was taken by NSCDC regardless of the fact that photographs taken from the scene of the killing showed the deceased seated behind the steering wheel of his car where he was shot. Nobody from NSCDC has been able to explain how a man sitting behind the wheel of his car could be struggling for the rifle of an NSCDC official. Was the gun pointed at the late citizen from close range inside his car? If yes, men of the NSCDC should be immediately disarmed nationally for inability to use firearms properly.

“Sensing danger of harm to himself and abduction or harm of his principals, Robinson retreated but they surged at him with their cutlasses and shovels so much so that he had to fire a warning shot. The shot did not deter them as they rushed him with sticks, matchets, and shovels, trying to disarm him.

“It was in the ensuing struggle that a second shot was fired and the leader of the mob who grabbed the nozzle of the gun was shot. At the time, the driver who had seen the hostility and heard the gunshots had maneuvered the Hilux to Robinson to leave the scene with the expatriates but Robinson took compassion on the shot hoodlum and in a bid to save him he carried him into the Hilux and sped off in search of a hospital. Wogu was however pronounced dead on arrival, unfortunately.” Fadeyi tried to explain.

What Mr Fadeyi never told the press was that the late Nwogu was killed right inside his father’s compound. What exactly were the NSCDC official and the Chinese expatriates with him doing inside the compound of late Nwogu? Is the family compound part of the long-abandoned Aba-Ikot Ekpene federal highway, and will Fadeyi accept for anyone to turn his father’s compound into a public vehicle thoroughfare?

It is important to note that while the federal government who are the employers of Fadeyi and the contractors have failed to reconstruct the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Highway after many failed promises, Abia State Government constructed an alternative route to Akwa Ibom State through Ekwereazu-Nto Edino Road. Commuters between the states have been using that road without let or hindrance but the NSCDC official and his charge chose to violate other people’s private properties because they believe they can shoot their way through and expect to be absolved by their Commander.

The NSCDC Commander is well advised to wait for the outcome of police investigations before passing off second-hand information as fact. Trespass of private property is on its own a criminal offence known to Nigerian laws and the unconscionably fabricated story of grabbing the nozzle of a gun would be tested by investigators who will simply look at the bullet wound to determine what truly happened. There is evidence that, at least, three shots were fired by Officer Otobong with one hitting the deceased in the leg while the other hit his stomach. Fadeyi should better prepare a defense for that, otherwise, it would be seen that he deliberately sent his men to murder Nwogu because, according to him, “the notoriety of this area is well known”.

Our people will continue to insist on justice for the dead Nwogu and will not allow the antics of NSCDC to obfuscate the truth in any way.

433,000 Nigerians, Businesses To Get N50,000, N30,000 Each – FG

0

Tola Johnson, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Micro Small and Medium and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs), says 100,000 small businesses will get N50,000 each.

NAN reports that the gesture is part of COVID-19 economic stimulus.

The presidential aide made the announcement at the inauguration of the Implementation of Survival Fund and Guaranteed Off-Take Stimulus Schemes for MSMEs on Thursday in Abuja.

Johnson, the Project Coordinator, said that the schemes were part of the Economic Sustainability Plan drafted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led committee and approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Payroll Support targets 100,000 businesses. However, the number of individuals who will benefit from this is 500,000. What the government has done is to say that there a lot of MSMEs that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

“Afterward, there is a CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) free registration; it is free for the MSMEs but the government is paying the CAC for this. What the government has done is to say to the CAC, you do this regularly to the MSMEs at about N12,000 or thereabout; give it to us at half price, we will give it to the MSMEs free”.

Johnson added that under the National MSMEs Clinic, Osinbajo and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment went to no fewer than 26 states.

He said it was discovered that very creative businesses were not registered.

“They will tell you they don’t have N10,000 to N12,000 to register their businesses. The government had promised that at some point, we will do and I think the opportunity has come now; the opportunity cannot be better than now.’

The official also announced that under the Survival Fund, the last strap would be the Transport and Artisans Support.

At least 333,000 beneficiaries will get a one-off N30,000 grant, Johnson said.

He added that the government will work with associations, individuals and the Ministry of Transportation to implement the scheme.

Increase In Food Prices Is Only For A Little While – Gambari

2

Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Ibrahim Gambari, says the hike in prices of food items should be seen as a transient situation.

Speaking on Thursday during the national food security council meeting, held at the State House, Abuja, Mr. Gambari said the recent prices of grains show a significant decline which suggests that the decrease would soon be reflected across the country as new products are brought into the market.

Gambari said, “Yesterday, my office as the secretariat, National Food Security Council, met with the agricultural commodity association to ascertain the root causes of the recent spike in food prices and craft mitigating strategies to what could be a potential crisis.

“Although various concerns were raised on the root cause of the increase in commodity cost, we have been informed that prices are actually on the decline as new grains have been introduced to the market.

“For example, new maize which was previously sold for N25,000 per bag is now being sold between N12,000 and N17,000, and it’s expected to fall between N7,000 and N8,000 per bag by November 2020, according to the various leaders of the agricultural commodity association. The price decline has also been experienced in millet, beans, and sorghum. The hike, therefore, is to be seen as a transient situation.

“With Mr. President being among us, as somebody who knows about farming and agriculture perhaps more than many of us in the room, we believe his presence is very instructive in addressing not just this hike and transient nature and pricing of foodstuff, but also to underscore the importance he personally and as Mr. President and his administration attaches to the issue of national food security.

“However, it is important to note that the most prevailing concern of the various leaders of the agricultural commodity association, was their demand that there should be better coordination, synergy, and cooperation across the sector. This has largely accounted for the gross misinformation and nationwide speculation which is being experienced.

“Not disregarding the impact of other value triggers such as the cyclical off-season period phenomenon, the COVID-19 pandemic, and infrastructure challenges, the importance of collaboration can still not be overemphasized.”

The diplomat said it is time that the nation pivots its attention and resources to how it can improve yield per hectare, even as key actors in the agric space are championing increased hectares under cultivation.

According to him, this new shift will be a significant boost in the government’s determination to strengthen its objective in achieving food security.

Bauchi State Governor Lauds Uche Ogah On Mining Promotion Initiatives

2

Minister of State, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah has been commended for the many laudable initiatives that he has brought to revitalize the mining sector in order to reposition the sector as the next available revenue earner for the country after oil.

ABNTV reports that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who made the above remark on Friday in his State, also praised President Muhammadu Buhari for selecting the Hon. Minister to man the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, while describing Dr.Ogah
as ” one of the few in Mr President’s cabinet that has stood out.”

In the Governor words:

“Dr. Uche Ogah, my brother and friend, accept my immense sense of solidarity. Mr President should be praised for selecting someone like you to man the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. Some of us in the Forum of Governors have recognised your passion and drive to move the Mining and Steel sector to a greater height. We, Governors compare notes and take records.

“Hon. Minister, Sir, just like you did in the private sector within the shortest possible time, you have made a mark in your Ministry, and I am talking from a personal experience, having worked in that Ministry before.

” You are one of the few in Mr President’s cabinet that has stood out. I must tell you that it is well documented.

“By your pedigree and passion towards formalising the Mineral Sector policy, I so much believe that a working synergy between the FG and the State Governments in the Mining and Steel sector is achievable.

“More importantly, you surprised me by going all the way to Rishi, a hinterland community in Bauchi State, to interact with miners. That, to me, is peculiarly strange.
From records, no Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has done that in recent memory.

” It shows a leader who is in touch with his sector, and that is how it is supposed to be. You are a leader with a difference. This singular visit of yours to the hinterland has further endeared you and I to my people. We are excited.

“Let Mr President know… in fact, I will also brief him, that, this your visit is already having a huge positive effect and, because of it, the Bauchi State Government is reiterating its readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government of Nigeria to advance the Mining and Steel sector in the country”,the Governor ended.

Speaking during the visit, the Minister had informed Governor Bala Mohammed that he was in the State to meet with various mining stakeholders to acqauint them with opportunities provided by the Buhari Administration to shore up revenue from the mining sector in order to boost the nation’s non-oil earnings, especially,in the face of the slump in oil revenues, which was occasioned by the COVID 19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, while meeting with mining
stakeholders in Bauchi State,Dr. Ogah observed the need for peaceful co- existence between mining operators and their host communities, saying that no meaningful achievement can be made in the absence of peace. He commended the Bauchi State Chairman, Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee ( MIREMCO),Alh. Belloji Galoji, who had earlier ,among other demands, requested for an official driver to help to ease movement logistics, for the good work he is doing in Bauchi State and charged him to co- ordinate the renewal of expired Community Development Agreements between mining operators and host communities and to also address the attendant environmental issues arising from mining activities in the State.

Also speaking during the interactive session,Chairman, Miners Association of Nigeria, Bauchi State Chapter, Alh.Musa Pali ,who welcomed the Minister on behalf of all miners in the State, informed Dr.Ogah that the Bauchi State Governor and his Commissioner in charge of the sector were miners-friendly.

He requested the Minister to support the association in the bid of its members to realise a proposal for the establishment of a Mineral Buying Centre at the Zaranda part of the State and to improve mineral production in the State through the setting-up of an equipment support programme, while, also, soliciting the review of mining loan conditions by the Bank of Industry ( BOI).

Responding,Dr.Ogah again commended members of the Miners Association in Bauchi State for their different activities aimed at galvanising the inputs of various stakeholders in the State to make for collective progress. He charged them to ensure prompt and correct settlement of royalties based on accurate declaration of their mine outputs. He noted that the revenue derivable from mining is expected to help Government in addressing critical issues of infrastructure deficit, environmental remediation and the provision of support to improve local production.

The Minister assured them of the Ministry ‘s support in the area of issuing the necessary permits for their proposed Mineral-Buying Centre at Zaranda. He informed the miners that the Ministry is ready to support their operations with the necessary equipment, but wishes to ensure orderliness by requesting that the miners group themselves into Cooperative Societies that will make for easy administration. He explained that the loan conditions were made stringent by the Bank of Industry owing to the generally held negative perception of Nigerians about government loans.Dr. Ogah also noted that the Ministry has intervened in the conditions for obtaining such loans and that genuine miners were now accessing the loan facility.

Among those present at the stakeholders’ parley were members of Women in Mining. Nafisatu Yusuf Baba,Chair of the group, and Kabiru Santuraki, their Zonal Coordinator, who spoke on their behalf ,also, informed the Honourable Minister that they were registered as Artisinal Small Scale Mining operators and desired to be allocated a cadastral unit in each Local Government Area of the State to carry out a seamless operation. While also assuring them of support, the Minister directed the ASM Officer in Bauchi State to secure a small- scale mining lease for the group where their members operate in the State.

Tinubu Wants To Serve, Atiku Only Interested In Acquiring Power – Henry Ajomale

1

Chief Henry Ajomale, former chairman of the Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Leader is the best man to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Even though Tinubu, a former governor Lagos, has not declared his intention to contest, many of his loyalists have started mobilising for him while many groups have also been formed in anticipation of his declaration.

Speaking in an interview with INDEPENDENT, Ajomale said if elected President, Tinubu will turn Nigeria around for the better exactly the way he did during his eight years reign as Lagos state governor.

“I am in support of the fact that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the best man to succeed President Buhari in 2023. I will support that without any hesitation because Asiwaju Tinubu has traversed the whole country.

“He knows where the problems of each constituent are and the solution to it. These problems are diverse because the problem they have in Ondo is not the same as the one in Kano state.

“Tinubu was a governor and we know the role he played in the development of Lagos which makes it envy to other states. If a man can develop IGR from N600m to billions of naira.

“Even when the monthly federal allocation to Lagos state was stopped by Obasanjo, he was still running the governance of Lagos seamlessly.

“I believe if given the opportunity, he will turn Nigeria around for better. If people like Babachir Lawal from Adamawa and Tanko Yakassai can be rooting for Asiwaju, it goes to show you that the man is a pan-Nigerian.

“I am not saying he is a saint or he is perfect. There is nobody who is perfect except God. You may not like his face but you should like the idea and experience he has to make Nigeria better.

“He is a financial expert and so there is nothing the Minister of Finance can tell him that he doesn’t know.

“He knows where the money Nigeria needs is hiding and he can bring it out. That is the type of person Nigeria needs now.”

Ajomale also appealed to Nigerians not to make the mistake of electing former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.

According to him, while Tinubu wants to turn Nigeria around to becoming one of the best nations in the world, Atiku’s motive is only to acquire power without a clear-cut agenda on what to do with it.

“We should not make the political mistake of putting somebody who has been contesting for the presidency for more than 20 years and he knows he cannot do it. He just wants to acquire power and after getting it, he has no idea about what to do”.

“Let’s settle for somebody who has the interest of the people at heart, who can turn things around and make Nigeria become one of the best nations in the world. That person is no other than Asiwaju Bola Tinubu”

Customers Without 12-Hour Supply Daily Exempted From Electricity Bill Increase – NERC

2

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC on Friday insisted that electricity Distribution Companies must not increase tariffs of customers enjoying less than 12 hours of power supply daily.

Mr Dafe Akpeneye, NERC Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Compliance, made the clarification during the regulatory agency’s online town hall meeting with customers on the new electricity tariff regime.

The DisCos had on September 1 announced the implementation of new Service Reflective Tariff Plan across their franchise areas.

The DisCos said the classes of customers had been categorised into five bands with bands D and E who were not enjoying 12 hours daily power supply not affected by the new tariff plan.

However, Akpeneye, who was responding to claims by some customers that the DisCos were not adhering to the increment terms, maintained that those below 12 hours supply daily should not experience any increment.

He explained that the hours and bands were decided by the commission after consultations but customers were assigned to the bands by the DisCos.

Akpeneye said, ”Anyone who is enjoying less than 12 hours of electricity must not have their tariffs increased.

“Customers who receive electricity service below the band they have been assigned can have the DisCos move them to the actual band of electricity service they receive.

“Unhappy? Contest the band classification you have been assigned.”

He said in order to protect unmetered customers from exploitation by the DisCos, NERC came up with “Parity with Neighbours”.

“This is the principle we are applying with unmetered customers. It basically means as an unmetered customer, you cannot be charged more than your metered neighbour,” the commissioner said.

Akpeneye also disclosed that NERC had mandated all DisCos to invest in infrastructure in order to increase power supply to customers.

I Can Marry My Mother’s Agemate – Nollywood Actor, Pitakwa

3

Nollywood actor, Don Charles Mmaduka, also known as ‘Pitakwa’, has revealed his plans for marriage and choice of a woman.

In an interview with Dailypost, the Anambra-born actor said that he would not give it a second thought, should he find love in someone who might be in the same age bracket with his biological mother.

“Attraction is paramount to me in a relationship and for me, it is completely not age-dependent,” he said

“I can marry a woman in the same age bracket with my mother, I kid you not! It’s all in the attraction and I must add that I’m more mentally attracted to ladies than I am physically attracted to them; and by mental attraction, I mean a lady’s intellectual capacity,” he said.

Speaking further, Mmaduka, who started his acting career officially in 2014 after the role he played in ‘5 Days of War’, where he also got the name Pitakwa, stated that he wants a mentally mature woman who can easily satisfy his emotional needs in a marriage.

“Attraction is an emotion beyond humans’ control. It does not matter the age and so, age shouldn’t be seen as barrings in a beautiful relationship that could blossom into a model and happy home.

“Age is just really a number to me and has nothing to do with compatibility and satisfaction for me.

“A woman twice my age who fits into the descriptions in my bucket list for a life partner, I will marry without a second thought.

“I love brilliant and intelligent women. Smartness in a woman who has a positive mental attitude and good character is everything.

“It’s all about the compatibility, maturity and satisfaction for me. And as you know, these factors are not determined by age.

“Relationships are about the real connection between two people who are in love, understand each other, and not numbers!” he concluded.
