SARS Allegedly Harass, Brutalize Naked Female Corper During Illegal Search For “Yahoo Boys” (Photos)

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have brutalised a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps while also falsifying her police statement.

The corps member, Akinlabi (other names concealed), said the harassment against her began on September 17 after men of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad broke into her compound while she was asleep and pointed a flashlight to her face while claiming to be looking for “yahoo boys”.

SARS is notorious for numerous rights violations of young people in the country with the intent of extorting them or incriminating them of uncommitted crimes.

Narrating her ordeal to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Akinlabi said, “On 17th of September 2020 by 2:00am, a team of people broke into our compound claiming to be SARS and searching for yahoo guys broke my window net, pointed their torchlight at my face while asleep and commanded me to open the entrance door for them.

“I was scared to do as commanded because I couldn’t identify who they were, rather, I shouted and ran into the passage for help.

“On getting to the passage, I saw another set of people at the window threatening to deal with me if I did not open the door. As I continued to shout for help, one of my neighbours opened her door for me and I entered her room and was shocked as they still came to the window of the woman insisting that we must open the door or they would break the door.

“Some of them later broke into an empty room by cutting off the burglary and entered the passage. The others broke the burglary of the room we were, opened the door for others to have access to the room. They started assaulting me by slapping and hitting me with cutlasses and sticks.

“At this point, I was practically naked and had to plead with them to allow me to put on my clothes which they eventually allowed but violated my privacy as I was forced to dress up in their presence. The beating continued after that and I got handcuffed like a common criminal for an offence I knew nothing about. They threatened to lock me up for 48 hours for refusing to open the door for them.

“I and another guy in the lodge were taken to their van and they asked us to stand in the rain for hours. They insisted on us giving them money for fuel before we could be released. We were released when they realised we were not ready to give any money.”

Despite reporting the incident to NYSC officials in the state, Akinlabi said her report was falsified and never shown to her.

“The following morning, I called my LGI first and my PPA principal and they both asked me to go to the police station to make a report. On getting there, one officer initially refused to take my complaint until she was informed that the DPO was aware of the incident.

“In spite of this, she insisted on writing my statement by herself and in her own way. Please note that I never wrote or signed any statement at the police station as the officer refused to allow me to do so,” she said.

Fearing for her safety and that of her family, Akinlabi called on the Inspector-General of Police, rights groups and the international community to investigate the brutal invasion of her residence and assault against her and bring the officers involved to book.

She also asked the IGP to see to it that she was duly compensated for damages done to her physically and on her properties in the process of the crime committed against her while serving her country.

GUU Pro-Chancellor, Chief Ugochukwu Tasks Universities On Social Change

1

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Gregory University Uturu Chief Onyema Ugochukwu has urged institutions of higher learning in the country to make efforts to be champions of social change.

This is even as he commends the management of Gregory University Uturu for setting the pace in terms of proactive social interventions especially at the peak of COVID-19 in the country.

ABN TV reports that In a statement signed by DR, Media & Public Relations, Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, Chief Ugochukwu lauded the University for being at the forefront of distributing palliatives and relief materials to Abians as a way of cushioning the effects of the outbreak.

“Indeed it was really a breath of fresh air to see our university champion the donation and distribution of many tonnes of palliatives to indigent members of the society during the COVID-19 lockdown. It was even more heartwarming to see that the social interventions went beyond donation of foodstuff to the production of such life supportive materials as medications, power generating set, furnace and sanitizing chamber” he said.

“Chief Ugochukwu, therefore, tasked other institutions of higher learning in Nigeria to emulate the example of Gregory University Uturu by going beyond the statutory task of knowledge transfer to the important assignment of providing impactful solutions to the myriads of problems confronting society.

“Earlier in an address, the Vice-Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Augustine Uwakwe enumerated the recent academic and social attainments of the institution, asserting that the pragmatic leadership of the Chancellor, Prof Gregory Ibe, inspired the modest achievements.

“In his own words, It is gratifying to note that apart from achieving tremendous curriculum and infrastructural expansion within a short period, we have not allowed the pandemic to disrupt our academic programme as lectures and tests were sustained online throughout the lockdown period. Arrangements are currently being concluded for the conduct of rain semester examinations. We have also taken giant steps to overcome the perennial twin problems of water scarcity and public power supply.

“Through the charismatic and pragmatic leadership of both the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor, we have been able to reticulate water to the campus from a sumo facility located four kilometres away, while recently acquiring and installing a brand new electric transformer that when finally energized will enable us to supply light to the campus and our host community” the statement read in part.

Chief Onyema Ugochukwu had recently assumed office as the second Pro-Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu at the expiration of the tenure of the Engr. Mrs Ebele Okeke led the Governing Council.

Big Brother Naija reality TV star Ozoemena “Ozo,” Chukwu says he could not control his feelings for his fellow housemate, Nengi Hampson, because he was drawn to her strength and beauty.

Ozo revealed this in an interview session with Big Brother Naija show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu published on social media on Tuesday.

The sports enthusiast was evicted alongside Trikytee on Sunday night.

He said, “On my birthday when I had to say things about everyone, I told her I feel like she’s a strong person and she was like that was all you could say. One thing she doesn’t get is that attribute alone got me really attracted to her.

“Excluding the whole thing, I feel like she is a really pretty and attractive lady and I have always been the whole light-skinned girl kind of guy. My friends will be like, guy why are you doing this? You’re going to give birth to albino kids and I’ll be like that’s not how it happens, don’t worry.”

Ozo admitted Nengi told him she had a lover outside the Big Brother house.

The 27-year-old, however, said he went for her regardless because he felt it was only right to let people know if you like them.

“If you are going to vilify me for going overboard in an excessive way for someone that I like or someone that I love, that means I was not a bad person,” he said.

Ozo departed from the Big Brother house as a winner of several challenges including an Innosson car, an N1million cash prize, a VVIP trip to Dubai for the Pepsi One Africa Music Fest, and a year’s supply of Pepsi after winning the Pepsi Lyrics challenge alongside Trikytee.

Ex-Minister Arrests Hotel Staff, Strips Them Naked For “Stealing N5k” (Photos)

A former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi, who is currently nursing a governorship ambition in Delta State in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has arrested and charged four of his staff working in his hotel to court for allegedly stealing his N5,000.

It was reliably gathered that Gbagi last week Friday arrested the four staff working in Signatious Hotel, Warri, Delta State, after they were stripped naked and photographed inside the hotel before handing them over to the police.

Our correspondent gathered that after dehumanizing the four staff, a male and three females, they were taken to the Ebrumede Police Station to be remanded in custody.

Speaking in confidence with our correspondent, a staff of the hotel revealed that his colleagues were arrested by the former minister over the alleged theft of the said amount.

He said, “My boss, former Minister of State for Education and owner of Signatious Hotel, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, arrested four of my colleagues working for him over the stealing of N5,000 from the hotel when actually the N5,000 was given as a gift to them by a guest because of their good behaviour.”

While giving the names of the arrested colleagues as Gloria Oguzie, Victor Ephraim, Rosslyn Okiemute and Achibong Precious, the source said, “Before they were arrested by the police on Friday last week at the hotel, the four staff were stripped naked while they were photographed in the presence of the police.

“We learnt that the dehumanising treatment was instructed by our boss.”

It was further gathered that the hotel management forcefully made some withdrawals from the bank accounts of the four staff through their ATM cards before the police took them away in a waiting van.

The four staff were charged before a magistrate court sitting in Effurun after four days of detention.

In a five-count charge, the police accused the suspects of conniving among themselves to steal monies ranging from N156,000, N110,000, N5,000 and N2,000 owned by Signatious Hotel and committed an offence punishable under section 516 and 390 (9), of the criminal code Law Cap21C Vol.1 Law of Delta State.

The four staff, it was learnt, were granted bail on Monday through the intervention of some anti-corruption and human rights activists, who decided to take up the matter.

A warri-based human rights lawyer, Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe, who confirmed the story, said that the four staff were granted bail by a magistrate court sitting in Effurun, Delta State.

FG Takes Over Revenue Management Of NNPC, Customs, FIRS, NCC, Others

The Federal Government on Tuesday moved to boost its resources by directly taking over control of revenue management of its 10 most lucrative Enterprises.

The 10 government-owned enterprises (GOE) named in the first phase of the initiative are Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NSS).

Others include Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC).

At the opening of a three-day orientation programme for 50 directors of revenue who are to be posted to various GOEs in Abuja, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed said the initiative was in compliance with Presidential approval conveyed via SGF’s circular reference SGF.50/S.3/C.9/24 dated 16th October 2018 on the approved Revenue Performance Management Framework for Government Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).

According to her, “government is increasingly concerned with the dwindling profile of Revenue and this trend has to be quickly arrested particularly with Key revenue generating agencies of the Government.”

“It is my considered opinion that the presence of Directors of Revenue at the FGOEs will ensure strict adherence to extant rules and regulations in the areas of compliance to approved budget and due process mechanism in procurement and payments.”

“The Directors of Revenue, in the course of the discharge of their functions, shall be involved in the revenue operations of the FGOEs, have a better understanding of business processes and operations of the FGOEs and cause improved transparency and accountability in revenue reporting by the FGOEs.”

“In addition, they are expected to seek opportunities and avenues for revenue improvements which are the ultimate aim of the Government.

I am pleased to inform you that the discharge of these duties will be aided with the deployment of Information Technology.”

“The Integrated Revenue Monitoring System is being put in place to help the monitoring of the revenues of the FGOEs online real-time and to ensure its improved transparency and accountability.”

“This programme is designed as an orientation to the officers that will be posted as Directors of Revenues and is hoped that this will help them to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently and most importantly in utmost good faith.”

Earlier, Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris said the vision of this initiative is to achieve transparency and accountability of Government revenue with special focus on FGOEs, improved revenue performance and ultimately to provide a sustainable source of funding for Government budget execution.
He, therefore, urged the participants to be active during the orientation programme. In a remark read on his behalf, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustafa said the decision taken to boost the revenue base of Government was to post Professional Treasury Officers to select FGOEs will among others enable the Treasury to have a better understanding of the business processes and operations of the FGOEs.

“This will help in the review of the current systems, policies and procedures in revenue administration and management.

“The policy is a reform initiative aimed at generating more revenue and associated remittance into the government treasury and to also improve the operational performance of all GOEs.

“Hitherto, Government has noted that a number of GOEs remit less operating surpluses to the Consolidated Revenue Fund than is required by law and/or Financial Regulations.”

Obasanjo Is A Disgrace To Nigeria – APC National Publicity Secretary, Nabena

1

Yekini Nabena, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an embarrassment and a disgrace to Nigeria for saying the country was slowly becoming a failed state and more divided under the Buhari administration.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Nabena said Obasanjo who tried to change the country’s constitution in order to secure a third term for himself in office has no right to find fault with President Buhari who has been doing his best in steering the affairs of the ship of the nation.

According to Nabena, part of the mistakes Obasanjo made as President is what is still negatively affecting Nigeria today.

“There is a parable that when you are bending down to look at somebody’s buttocks, your own buttocks is out there. People like former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Prof. Wole Soyinka are leaders and when they start making such statements, I’m disappointed because what are they expecting the younger ones to do?”

“Obasanjo has been a military Head of state in this country. Can he just sit down and evaluate himself on what he has done right or wrong. I respect Obasanjo as an elder, but for him to make such a statement, I’m disappointed in him. He is a disgrace to this country”.

“This is the same man that tried to secure a third term for himself in office after completing the constitutionally approved two terms? So, what was he trying to tell Nigerians? It is as simple as that. I don’t even need to go further”.

“He is supposed to support the government as an elder statesman not to be picking holes in everything. He was President for two terms and made lots of mistakes. Part of the mistakes he made is what is affecting Nigeria today”.
