Fear Of Visa Ban, Key To Edo Election Success – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that the international community played a huge role in ensuring a smooth governorship election in Edo State.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, the governor explained that threatening to place a visa ban on anyone found guilty of rigging, forced people to act appropriately.

“One thing that played out and which I noticed was the role of the international community. For example, the US, the UK came out and said that there would be a visa ban if anybody tries anything in terms of violence or rigging and they have gone further to ban some governors,” he said.

“Everybody was being careful, saying, I don’t want to have any problem, I don’t want my children and family to have any problem. We all go to the UK every time.

“In fact, they should even go further, not only politicians, but security agencies, then you’ll see everybody will sit up and say look, I cannot jeopardize the future of my children and mine, simply because you want me to rig the election, so it’s very key”.

When asked about his role in the election, the governor said he didn’t play any special role and it the success of the election was a result of the joint efforts of all the stakeholders, particularly the governors of Oyo and Delta state.

He also spoke about the role of the Inspector General of Police in the elections, saying he tried to force him (Wike) to leave the state.

“First of all, the IG’s role as far as I’m concerned as it relates to me, has to do with someone who has had a premeditated view about me because the IG never saw me outside. I was inside my room and I got a call from the IG, that I must leave Edo State.

“What surprised me was that I am the Chairman of the campaign council so why should I leave. And as chairman you must monitor what is going on so that at the end of the day, you’ll be able to write your report to the party,” he explained.

According to him, the IGP’s action had nothing to do with the election but rather it was based on a personal vendetta.

“I discovered that the IG’s own had nothing to do with the election because I remembered that some time ago my commissioner returned to me from a FAAC meeting and said there were deductions made to the Police Trust Fund.

“I asked who approved it because the police are under the exclusive list and not the concurrent list. I told my attorney-general to challenge it. This angered the IG,” Wike explained.

The Rivers State Governor, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their role in ensuring a credible election.

According to him, if INEC can replicate what was done in Edo, for the Ondo Governorship election, then the PDP can be assured of victory.

Uche Ogah Partners NDE, Disburses Loans To Abians (Photos)

The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah through his foundation, Uche Ogah Foundation has collaborated with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to disburse soft loans to Abians.

Successful applicants were on 23th of September issued Approval Letters in readiness for disbursement of funds.

The event commenced with training session headed by the Head of Small Scale Enterprises of NDE, Pastor Paul Ukandu.

Other Heads of Department of NDE, stakeholders and representatives of Uche Ogah Foundation were present.

The Director General NDE was represented by the coordinator Abia state Arch. Lady Chi Uzoatuegwu, while the founder Uche Ogah Foundation was represented by Evan.Chris Agbai.

Speaking at the event the state Coordinator NDE Abia state chapter Arch. Lady Chi Uzoatuegwu said “NDE is one of the agencies of government charged with the responsibility of paying unemployed youths, actually what we do in NDE is training. When NDE started newly we had loans, settlement loans and others, at a time we were asked to focus on training but once in a while they see that those we train need money for business so that’s why we have things like this come in, and when it does we call you to come and be part of it.

“I am of the opinion that those of you who are here are very lucky to have been selected from a pull of millions of unemployed persons to benefit from this loan”.

She encouraged the recipients to make maximum use of the money not minding how little, but to put efforts to actualize their purpose.

ABN TV gathered that beneficiaries will few days from now be credited through the account details supplied.

They could not hide their joy as they described the development one of its kind.

One of the beneficiaries, Florence Nnamdi expressed gratitude to Dr. Ogah, whom he said has never hidden his love for the people.

“I’m grateful to the Minister for this empowerment. I can’t thank him enough but can only pray God to replenish him. He has always shown love and how much the welfare of the people Matters to him. During COVID-19, he put smile on our faces and we say God bless him”.

2023: Nobody Should Deny South-East Right To Presidency – APC Group

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the Conference of 2019 South-East All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Assembly Candidates has called for mutual respect of the existing zoning arrangement.

The group, which is made up of all the House of Assembly candidates in the 2019 election across the South-East states, said this was not the time for anyone to think of altering the rotation of power between Northern and Southern Nigeria.

A statement made available to DAILY POST, which was signed by the chairman of the Conference, Hon. Afam Ezenwafor and the Secretary, Hon George Ugwuja, said the South-East remained the only zone yet to produce a President since the country’s return to democratic rule.

They declared that “this is a very pressing political miscalculation that has triggered agitations for secessions. The time to make it right is now.

“Since the return to democratic rule, Nigeria’s political system has been sustained and political tensions averted or subdued due to an effective cooperation between regional political coalitions which is a major element for this stability.

“Besides the constitutional provisions on proportional representation in government, other extra-constitutional and internal political arrangements among regional elites, such as zoning and rotation, have contributed substantially towards stability. Every other geopolitical zone has served and now it is the turn for South East Nigeria.”

They explained that the Conference “is the largest pressure group from the ruling party with closest structures in the grassroots.

“It is made up of the best of young politicians who won their tickets through merit. We are over one hundred and thirty and each of us have a minimum of four thousand supporters. We have listened to them and they are all asking for a chance for a South Eastern President to consolidate the unity of this country.

“We are consulting to stimulate discussions ahead of time. As a country, it is not this time that we can afford to change our zoning formula; now is not the right time to ignore ethnic tensions and promote marginalization.

“We are here to make our stand clear that it is the turn of the South-east and our leaders are trained and ready to lead Nigeria.”

“To match our words with action, we have scaled up consultations at national level. Some of the stakeholders we have visited include Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, His Excellency, Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, former Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chukwuemeka Ezeife. We have also reached out to political stakeholders in North Central and we are looking out for a joint press conference in October 2020.

“It is said that ‘politics is not given, it is taken’; we are fully aware and ready but decide to clear every sentiment surrounding those that may hide under such statements to deny the South East their political rights.

“We are appealing to the sensibilities of all political parties in Nigeria to show support and regard for Ndigbo. We have reached out to the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and every other home and abroad social-cultural organizations in the South-East and the music is that we are ready because it is time,” they further declared.

Buhari Commissions Road Named After Him In Guinea Bissau (Photos)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Guinea Bissau commissioned a road named after him in the West African country.

The Nigerian leader departed the country, to participate in the Guinea Bissau National Day Celebration.

Unveiling the road project with President Buhari was his Guinea-Bissau counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embaló and that of Senegal, Macky Sall.

The Guinea-Bissau National Day celebration, which marks the West African country’s 47th independence anniversary, held at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium, Bissau.

Also joining President Buhari at the independence day anniversary were heads of state of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and that of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré.

Speaking at the event, the Nigerian leader said Nigeria will continue to assist Guinea Bissau in any way possible, saying ‘‘a peaceful and prosperous Guinea-Bissau is a win for West Africa and for Africa.’’

Congratulating President Embalo, the government and people of Guinea Bissau on the 47th Independence anniversary, Buhari said it was his sincere hope and prayer that the country and its people will continue to grow in strength and prosperity.

On September 10, 1974, Guinea Bissau declared its independence from Portugal, after a protracted struggle for freedom, which brought Portuguese colonization to an end.

IPOB, Yoruba Group Reveal Plans, Give Nigeria Govt Ultimatum

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Yoruba One Voice (YOV) have reiterated their resolve to achieve Biafra and Oduduwa Nations.

Warning of an implosion in Nigeria, they told the federal government to between now and October 1, 2021, conduct a referendum to allow citizens choose whether to leave or remain in the country.

This was contained in a joint release made available to DAILY POST on Friday.

It was signed by Sina Okanlomo, YOV General Secretary and Chika Edoziem, Head, IPOB Directorate of State.

The statement said Southern people were enduring life “with others, who do not share our own values, whose ways of life, mannerisms, ideology, are untoward, inimical, alien, hostile to our people.”

The bodies noted that it is time to boldly jettison the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), “which was not a product of the collective will of the people.”

They said the constitution was decreed into existence by the General Abdulsalami Abubakar administration, after the annulment of June 12, 1993 general elections, “won fair and square by the late Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.”

The signatories noted that the 1914 “forced amalgamation” has entrenched poverty, underdevelopment, mediocrity, unemployment, wanton killings, terrorism, inequality, insecurity, injustice, ethnic bigotry, religious fanaticism and breach of human rights.

IPOB and YOV said from all indications, the current leadership of Nigeria has never been committed to the fundamental objectives and directives of the principles of statehood, policies of federalism as enshrined in Chapter II of the constitution.

They stated that people of the South are tired of terrorism, insecurity, hopelessness, injustice, killings, unemployment, inequality, corruption, scandals, violence, oppression, extortion, and repression.

“Our aspiration is to build a stable Nation for our Peoples and in this regard, we demand that there must be a referendum so that our peoples can freely and fairly make a democratic choice, whether they want to continue with Nigeria as presently configured or seek their right to self-determination before the 2023 general elections.

“In order to prevent an implosion of sorts, we, on behalf of our people, therefore demand a proper referendum/plebiscite, to be conducted between now and the 1st of October, 2021, in accordance with the Rights of Indigenous Peoples all over the world under the law as provided in the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) charters.”

The groups said if the people choose self-determination, there would be an immediate activation for the creation of Oduduwa and Biafran Nations out of Nigeria from October 2, 2021.

IPOB and YOV told Southern people to stay away from Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary activities.

They told them to be free from “internal colonization” and to stay at home on October 1, 2020.

The statement told agitators to be ready for further calls for peaceful and legal demonstrations.

Buhari Has Been Rejecting Fuel Price Hike Since 2015 – SGF

Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on Thursday, appealed to organised labour ahead of the nationwide strike from Monday.

The SGF noted that President Muhammadu Buhari never wanted oil sector deregulation.

He recalled that the recommendation was made to him in 2015, NAN reports.

Mustapha said these in reaction to labour unions’ opposition to the hike in prices of electricity and petrol.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have vowed to shut down Nigeria.

Mustapha explained that the increments were not intended to cause pain or harm.

The decision was taken in the utmost interest of all people, he stressed.

Noting that he was on Presidential Transition Committee, the SGF said one of the team’s decisions was deregulation.

“President Buhari objected to it. Thereafter, the issue was reflected in the final report. There was the need to consider seriously the issues relating to deregulation of the petroleum sector and the need to look at energy sufficiency and efficiency, and what needed to be done.

“When the report was submitted to President Buhari, his reaction was that the Nigerian people elected him not to inflict pain on them. Five years down the line, that decision has become imperative and cannot be tampered with, it is a decision that must have been painfully considered.”

The SGF said the National Minimum Wage was implemented over a year ago but that COVID-19 had disrupted the economy of the country and others.

The National Industrial Court has restrained NLC and TUC from embarking on strike.

Deliberations between the federal government and union leaders will continue on Monday.

A meeting held in Abuja yesterday failed to reach an agreement.

Abia Govt Reveals Resumption Date For Schools

The Abia State Government has announced the reopening of primary and secondary schools in the State on Monday, 28th September 2020, to complete the 3rd term of 2019/2020 academic session with one week of revision classes.

This was announced in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, after the State Executive Council Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, Thursday.

The State Government also disclosed that the third term (promotion) examination which is expected to start from Monday, 5th October to Friday, 16th October 2020, will be used to assess pupils/students based on the tutorial from first and second term, as well as the radio and television classroom program.

According to the Government, the first term of 2020/2021 session for primary and secondary schools in the State will start on 26th October 2020, as teachers will go on one week break to enable them mark and compute promotional examination results.

It stated that the term will end on the 23rd of December, 2020, and further revealed that the State Commissioner for Education, Dr K C K Nwangwa, will publish other details related to school resumption, including protocols to ensure the protection of school children from COVID-19 infection, approved fees chargeable by private schools and other guidelines.

Parts of the statement read, “the Executive Council approved the resumption of Tertiary institutions in the State based on the time table and protocols submitted to the state government, as will be announced by the management of each school.

“The State Executive Council, SEC, noted improvements in internally generated revenue (IGR) collection and directed Abia State Internal Revenue Agency and Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) in the state to redouble efforts to ensure that the set target for 2020 is achieved regardless of the disruptions occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Executive Council approved the establishment of road maintenance committees in all the Local Governments of the State to ensure the achievement of the zero pothole policy of the state government.

 

“The State Executive Council Meeting approved the constitution of a committee that will oversee the transmutation of Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (ABROMA) to a limited liability company that will bid for road maintenance and construction jobs independent of government funding. Members of the Committee led by the Secretary to State Government, Barr Chris Ezem, include the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Uche Ihediwa, Commissioner for Works, Elder Bob Ogu and Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu”.

Pablo Escobar’s Nephew Finds £14million Cash In A Wall In One Of His Houses

The nephew of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar has found a plastic bag with £14million of cash hidden in the wall at one of his uncle’s houses.

Nicolas Escobar said he had a ‘vision’ which showed him where to look for the money in the apartment in Medellin, Colombia.

He told local media it was not the first time he has found money in unusual places where his uncle used to hide from the authorities.

Pablo Escobar, who died in a shootout with police in 1993, was said to be the seventh richest person in the world at the peak of his powers.

The ‘King of Cocaine’ reportedly hid millions in his many properties across Colombia.

He amassed an estimated net worth of US $30billion by the time of his death, equivalent to $59billion today.

Rumours of his hidden fortunes have been circulating for years since his death.

Nephew Nicolas told Colombian TV channel Red+ Noticias he also found a gold pen, satellite phones, a typewriter, a camera and undeveloped film roll.

He said: ‘Every time I sat in the dining room and looked towards the car park, I saw a man entering the place and disappearing.

‘The smell [inside] was astonishing. A smell 100 times worse than something that had died.’

Many of the old notes stashed in the wall had decayed and were no longer usable.

Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a Colombian drug trafficker.

During his time at the helm of the Medellin Cartel, he controlled over 80 per cent of the cocaine shipped to the US.

This earned him the rank of one of Forbes Magazine’s ten wealthiest people in the world.

Escobar entered the cocaine trade in the early 1970s, collaborating with other criminals to form the Medellin Cartel.

Despite his role as a drug lord Escobar earned popularity by sponsoring charity projects and soccer clubs.

However, terror campaigns run by Escobar resulted in the murder of thousands turned the public against him.

By the mid-1980s, Pablo Escobar had an estimated net worth of $30 billion and cash was so prevalent that Escobar purchased a Learjet for the sole purpose of flying his money.

More than 15 tons of cocaine were reportedly smuggled each day, netting the Cartel as much as $420 million a week.

Colombian law enforcement finally caught up to Pablo Escobar on December 2, 1993 in a middle-class neighborhood in Medellin.

A firefight ensued and, as Escobar tried to escape across a series of rooftops, he and his bodyguard were shot and killed.

Ekiti APC Suspends Buhari’s Aide, Tinubu’s In-Law, 9 Others

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has suspended a presidential adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, and 10 other party leaders for allegedly disobeying the directive of the party’s National Executive Committee.

State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ade Ajayi, said this in a letter titled, ‘Indefinite suspension of some members of Ekiti State Chapter of APC’, dated September 23 and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Apart from Ojudu, other affected members are the son-in-law to Senator Bola Tinubu, Oyetunde Ojo; former governorship aspirant, Dr Wole Oluyede; Ayo Ajibade; Femi Adeleye; Bunmi Ogunleye; Akin Akomolafe; Bamigboye Adegoroye; Olusoga Owoeye; Dele Afolabi; and Toyin Oluwasola.

The letter reads, “The State Executive Council of the Ekiti State chapter of APC has approved indefinite suspension of the following members with immediate effect from 23rd September, 2020.

“The suspension is based on the recommendation of the Investigative/Disciplinary Committee inaugurated by SEC to investigate the disobedience of certain members to the directive of NEC of 25th June, 2020, which directed members of the party not to institute any court action and to withdraw existing cases in courts.

“The decision of SEC has been communicated to the caretaker/extra ordinary convention planning committee of the party.”

Ojudu, who is the Special Adviser to the President Muhammadu Buhari, on Political Matters, however, dismissed the action, describing it as illegal and an effort in futility.

The presidential adviser said, “Let it be said that the only organ of the party that can try and suspend a member is the ward. What they have done is clearly illegal.

“I remain a member of APC and a committed one at that. I am not like them; traitors who claim to be APC and go work for the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo and Edo states.”

Ojudu and others, had in a statement titled, ‘Before our impending expulsion from APC’, signed by the group’s spokesperson, Bamgboye Adegoroye, on Wednesday, raised the alarm over the plot to expel them.
