We’re Free To Exploit Legal Options – Ize-Iyamu

2

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said he and his party are at liberty to pursue any legal option they deem fit as long as the peace of the state is not threatened.

In an Independence Day message signed by Ize-Iyamu, he said his party was collating facts and would soon speak authoritatively in the best tradition of rule of law, fairness to all and due process.

He said, “We will brief you all in good time and that time is near. But then, the question is after September 19, what next? We owe you an explanation on the way forward. Indeed, not a few have been bombarding us with this question. Well, we have kept quiet so far, not because we are bad losers, as some unfairly presume. It’s rather because, no matter the situation, we are staunch soldiers of the rule of law and due process.

“Suffice it to say that with due sensitivity to the feelings of our people, we are busy collating our facts. Only after can we speak and speak authoritatively in the best tradition of rule of law, fairness to all and due process. We will brief you all in good time and that time is near.

In the course of our methodical approach, not a few deem to have pre-empted our course of action and pleaded that we do not proceed to the courts to challenge the election result. While that cannot be dismissed as an entirely bad plea, what I can say is that whatever action we subsequently take will be rooted in due process and the rule of law. We will exercise every right available to us under the law, given the electoral facts at our disposal.

Even as we speak, our people should know that the PDP and their agents and privies have instituted 13 lawsuits against my running mate and I. None of them have they discontinued after the election. So, if the PDP don’t pass up their rights under the law, why should we in the APC do so?

Buhari Making It Difficult For Nigerians To Celebrate Diversity – Kukah

0

The cleric spoke at The Platform, an annual conference organised by Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos, on Thursday.

The virtual event hosted by Poju Oyemade, its convener, was to commemorate the nation’s 60th independence anniversary.

Kukah faulted the current composition of the Nigerian leadership with Muslims occupying leading positions across various political institutions.

He said the current arrangement where the president, those in charge of affairs at the senate and house of representatives, as well as the chief justice are from the same religion, hinders celebration of diversity and betrays the principle of federal character.

“I think even the most optimistic Nigerian must conceive that we are nowhere near coming to define the real sense of democracy. Beyond just going through the process of cycles of the election, we have a very serious problem with recruitment methods,” he said.

“Reflecting federal character should be like viewing ourselves in the mirror and celebrating our diversity because the table is big enough to occupy everyone.

“But when you don’t have that and you put all your apples in one basket, naturally you cannot make headway, because you’re violating the constitution and thinking that we are in a democracy.

“This president (Buhari) in my view in the last few years has made it very difficult for us to celebrate diversity. And Nigerians will concede that a reward system that is so skewed, whether in favour of men, women, Christians or Muslims is unacceptable because when it was time to vote, all of us came out to vote.

“We need to very quickly reset the template if we are to take our place after 60 years of independence. If we are unable to provide our people with water, food, light, security, then it is a tough call. I am not a happy Nigerian but I remain a hopeful Nigerian.”

President Trump, Wife Test Positive For Coronavirus

President Trump announced in a tweet early Friday morning that he and his wife Melania have both tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” he wrote. “We will get through this TOGETHER!” The news came just hours after it was reported that Hope Hicks, a close adviser to Trump who traveled with him aboard Air Force One several times this week, had tested positive.

The president’s physician, Sean P. Conley, wrote later that Trump and his wife “are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”

Former White House doctor Ronny Jackson told Fox News early Friday morning that Trump was asymptomatic and predicted the president would “weather this storm.”

“I will bet you that he does not develop symptoms, that he moves on and this does not become a big deal,” Jackson said.

The president has often claimed the U.S. has the pandemic “under control,” but his own positive test result – assuming it is accurate – is certain to raise questions about the reopening of schools and businesses when the virus could not be contained within the White House, arguably the most secure facility in the world.

Trump has dismissed concerns about those large campaign events, of which he hosted more than a dozen in September. He has also downplayed the importance of a face covering for himself, noting that he is regularly tested at the White House, and mocked Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Well, so far we have had no problem whatsoever,” Trump said of the rallies during his debate Tuesday with Democratic nominee Joe Biden. “It’s outside – that’s a big difference according to the experts. And we do them outside, we have tremendous crowds, as you see.”

Trump, 74, was the latest world leader to test positive for COVID-19. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson became the first major leader in March. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro fell ill in July and had a series of positive tests. Both men recovered.

The Coalition comprising Northern Youth Council Of Nigeria, NYCN, Association Of Northern Nigerian Students, ANNS, Arewa Youth Consultative Council, AYCC, Arewa Youth For Good Governance, AYGG, noted that it has become absolutely imperative to write and urge Sen. Kalu, former Abia governor to contest for the 2023 Presidential election.

According to the youths, Sen. Kalu has the leadership acumen, capacity, dexterity and contacts to be Nigeria’s President.

The statement read:

“We are Coalition Of Northern Nigerian Youth groups comprises Northern Youth Council Of Nigeria, NYCN, Association Of Northern Nigerian Students, ANNS, Arewa Youth Consultative Council, AYCC, Arewa Youth For Good Governance, AYGG, under the auspices of the Northern Nigerian Peace Foundation, NNPF, with the sole aim of advancing Good Governance, National Unity, Promotion of Religious Tolerance for the peaceful existence and the overall advancement of socio-economic development of Nigeria.

“Out of our curiosity and positive thought, it has become absolutely imperative to write and urge his Excellency, the former Governor of Abia State and the current Chief Whip of the Senate, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Orji Uzor Kalu to contest for the 2023 Presidential election as we believe that, he has the leadership acumen, capacity, dexterity and contacts to govern a complex nation like Nigeria.

“The best way Dr Orji Uzor Kalu can reciprocate the immense goodwill, respect and honour given to him by Nigerians are to heed to this call to contest the 2023 presidential election as we hope that he will make it to the number one position in Nigeria and chart a new course for our nation through purposeful and selfless leadership.

“Finally, we are with the view that Nigeria would never attain prosperity without checks and balances in our democratic process. Thank you, sir, as we humbly wait for your kind response.”

Buhari’s Administration Worst In Nigeria’s History – Fayose

0

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said the only thing that would give Nigerians “unspeakable joy” as the country turns 60 was the announcement of the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also claimed Buhari’s regime is the worst in Nigeria’s history.

Fayose in his message to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary noted that the country is “presently in coma and on life-support” under Buhari.

The message was made available to journalists by Fayose’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka.

The former governor said there was nothing to celebrate in a country bedeviled with insecurity, hunger, bare-faced corruption, and bad governance.

He said, “The government is for the people and not the people for the government. It must therefore be accountable to people. The police must also be mindful of the fact that they are part of society.

“The reality is that Nigerians are not happy with the present situation of the country. More so that this present government appears to be the worst in the history of Nigeria.

“Nigerians are not happy about the debts accumulated by this government because they can’t see anything being done with the money borrowed.

“They are angry that they can no longer go to their farms, travel on the roads and even sleep in their homes without the fear of being kidnapped, killed or raped by armed bandits.

“Nobody wants Nigeria to disintegrate. Rather, Nigerians want to live their lives normally without minding which party is in government, and as it appears, living in Nigeria has been made extremely difficult by this government.

“Painfully, most of those who are desirous of leaving the country for greener pastures abroad are unable to do so because advanced countries are banning Nigerians from coming to their countries.

“The already weak shoulders of Nigerians are being made to carry too much burden and they have rights to show their displeasure.”

Invite Chadian Soldiers To Fight Boko Haram With Nigerian Army – Zulum Tells Buhari

0

Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday, advised the President Muhammadu Buhari government to invite the Chadian military to help Nigeria fight Boko Haram.

President Idriss Deby had declared that Chad will no longer participate in external military operations.

He complained that allies had failed to go the extra mile in the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP.

In April, a major operation by the country eliminated 1,000 insurgents

Now Zulum wants the Buhari administration to seek Chad’s support against the sects.

He spoke when a Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) delegation visited him over recent attacks on his convoy.

About 30 security personnel and civilians were killed in the most recent ambush.

NGF spokesman, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, disclosed Zulum’s comments at the meeting with his colleague.

The governor urged the government “to ensure that Chadian soldiers are invited to join the Nigeria Army in the fight against insurgency if any meaningful success is to be recorded on the battleground. Zulum rationalised that no single army anywhere in the world has ever succeeded in quelling the insurgency.

“He requested that the government looked into ways of complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Army with the Chadian soldiers, emphasising that it is not to undermine the Nigerian soldiers, but to help them in finishing the job within a realistic deadline.”

Osinbajo Committed To Indivisibility Of Nigeria – SGF

1

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, has declared that he and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are very firmly and irrevocably committed to the ideal of one and the indivisible Nigerian nation.

In a statement he issued yesterday, Mustapha frowned at the sensational slant accorded the remarks by Osinbajo last Sunday during the special interdenominational service at the National Ecumenical Centre to commemorate the country’s 60th independence anniversary.

The SGF, who stood in for Osinbajo at the Sunday’s occasion, also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s consistent efforts to strengthen the unity of the country.

He argued that any suggestion that Osinbajo is not committed to the idea of the indivisibility of the country is a manifest misrepresentation of their common position as a government.

In his message titled Together ”… Come, Let Us Rebuild…”, Osinbajo had on Sunday used the story of Nehemiah in the Bible to support his remarks, urging Christians to be prepared to contribute their quota to national development.

He also spoke about cracks on the wall of the country, which though was yet unbroken, could lead to a break if not properly addressed.

”We might wonder, what is the significance of a wall to the lives of a people? But if we appreciate that in those days, a wall around a city signified security, prosperity, peace and contentment we would understand that the wall signified the essence of a nation-state,” Osinbajo reportedly said.
