The Police Command in Ekiti State has launched an investigation into the death of a policeman attached to Aramoko Division after he was crushed by a vehicle on his way to work.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu, said this while speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.

Abutu said the investigation was “to ascertain the actual cause of the death of the policeman for necessary action”.

The News Agency of Nigeria gathered that the unnamed policeman died as a result of injuries he sustained when he was crushed along Efon-Aramoko Ekiti Road on Saturday.

IGP Adamu Bans FSARS From Patrols, Stop And Search Duties

The inspector-general of police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has banned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), the Special Tactical Squad (STS), and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) from undertaking routine patrols as well as stop and search duties.

Such duties, which include stop -and- search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks, among others are to stop with immediate effect according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, on Sunday.

In addition, no personnel of the Force is authorized to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti, the statement indicated.

“They must always appear in their police uniforms or approved tactical gear. The IGP’s directives come against the backdrop of findings by the leadership of the Force that a few personnel of the Tactical Squads hide under these guises to perpetrate all forms of illegality, contrary to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Code of Conduct, and Rules of Engagement establishing the squads.

“Specifically, the IGP has warned the Tactical Squads against the invasion of the privacy of citizens particularly through indiscriminate and unauthorized search of mobile phones, laptops, and other smart devices.

”They are to concentrate and respond only to cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes when the need arises.

“The IGP notes that the FSARS and other Police Tactical Squads remain a critical component of the Force in confronting prevailing and emerging violent crimes in the country.

“He however condemns every act of unprofessionalism, abuse of human rights and high-handedness by some personnel of the Squads.

“He has therefore ordered the X-Squad and the Monitoring Unit to embark on immediate and massive nationwide monitoring of activities of Tactical Squads and other police officers on the road.

“They are to ensure prompt arrest, investigation and prosecution of all erring police officers who violate these directives and other extant regulations of the Force.

“The IGP has equally warned, that henceforth, the Commissioner of Police in charge of FSARS, Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands and the FCT as well as their supervisory Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, will be held liable for any misconduct within their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

“He therefore charged them to ensure effective supervision and mentoring of the personnel of the Tactical Squads under their jurisdiction.

“Meanwhile, two operatives of the FSARS and their civilian accomplice operating in Lagos State, INSPR Sale James, INSPR Monday Uchiola and Okechukwu Ogbonna, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for acts of professional misconduct including extortion and intimidation of innocent citizens.

“The operational vehicle of the men has also been impounded and disciplinary procedure has already commenced against the defaulters.”

Anger and frustration have pervaded the social media following the killing of a young man in Delta State by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police.

The issue had trended for the past couple of days on social media with many reliving their experiences at the hands of SARS operatives while others called for outright scrapping of the police unit, showing how strongly Nigerians feel about the development.

ABN TV reports that the lady who made a viral video saying that she was impregnated by 2020 #BBNaija winner, Laycon, has come out to say that Laycon never impregnated her.

In another video she made, she introduced herself as Dera and said she never knew Laycon and has not been in Nigeria for three years. She said she has not visited a night club before. She said that all she said about Laycon were jokes.

She said she hasn’t been able to sleep since she made that video. Because if she tries to sleep, she sees people chasing her around with cutlass. She appealed to Nigerians and Laycon’s fans to forgive her and stop chasing her around with cutlass in her dreams, to enable her sleep.

Heavy Shooting In Akure As PDP, APC Supporters Clash

Residents of Oba Nla, Oba Adesida road, Arakale, and Oja Oba areas of Akure, the Ondo State capital were thrown into confusion following a clash that ensued between the youths suspected to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Residents and passers-by of the area had to run to safety while vehicular movement was halted during the clash.

This came five days to the governorship election in the state.

According to an eyewitness, many people were injured in the clash.

It was gathered that the clash started late Saturday evening at Obanla Junction, Oba Adesida Road when one of the supporters of APC was allegedly beaten by that of PDP.

There was an alleged reprisal attack on Sunday morning by APC members, ABN TV was told.

It occurred a few meters away from ‘A’ Division Police Station, Akure.

SARS: FG Does Not Care About Lives Of Nigerians – Femi Kuti

Nigeria’s Afro-beat legend, Femi Kuti, has condemned the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

SARS has been allegedly harassing and killing Nigerians.

Their actions have led to a general outcry by Nigerians that SARS should be banned.

Femi Kuti has also called for an overhauling of SARS on his Twitter page, querying the government for keeping mute about the death of innocent Nigerians.

According to him, the government is nonchalant because their families are safe from SARS harassment.

His tweet read: “How many more innocent people must SARS/the police kill before urgent steps are taken to completely overhaul and reform the entire police force?

“Obviously, the government and their families are safe, and that is why they are nonchalant and indifferent.”

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has claimed he caught his estranged wife Precious Chikwendu in bed with another man.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made the claim in a series of tweets on Saturday in reaction to a video showing him allegedly abusing the woman.

Claiming his wife recorded the clip as propaganda against him, the troubled politician said: “There was NO physical abuse.

“I simply took the phone from her to stop her from recording me after catching her in bed with a married man days earlier.”

There have been multiple claims in the media that Fani-Kayode physically abused the former beauty queen with whom he has four sons.

But the man who confesses to having a “short fuse” said in the tweets that “I repeat there was NO physical abuse whatsoever and she had been insulting and subjecting everybody, including family members, staff and children, to PHYSICAL and VERBAL abuse the whole day. As usual, it was a nightmare!

Restructure Nigeria Or Risk Break-up – Adeboye Warns Buhari

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned of a possible collapse of Nigeria if the Muhammadu Buhari-led government looked on while the country plunged into various insurrections and criminalities.

Adeboye disclosed this on Saturday at an event to commemorate the 60th independence anniversary of Nigeria co-organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Nehemiah Leadership Institute.

He said the restructuring of the country must be done “as soon as possible” to forestall a breakup of the various social-ethnic components that made up Nigeria.

He proposed the adoption of a merger of the British style of government and the American system of government to pave the way for Nigeria’s future.

Adeboye said, “Why can’t we have a system of government that is 100 per cent Nigerian, unique to us? For example, we started on with the British system of government, somewhere along the line, we moved over to the American system of government.

“Can’t we have a combination of both and see whether it could help us solve our problems because in Mathematics if you want to solve a problem, you try what we call Real Analysis, then if it doesn’t work, then you move on to Complex Analysis and see whether that will help you. If that fails, you move on to Vector Analysis and so on.

“I believe that we might want to look at the problems of Nigeria in a slightly different manner. Some people feel that all our problems will be over if Nigeria should break up. I think that is trying to solve the problems of Nigeria as if it is a simple equation. The problems of Nigeria will require quite a bit of simultaneous equation and some of them are not going to be linear either – forgive me I am talking as a Mathematician.

“Why can’t we have a system of government that will create what I will call the United States of Nigeria? Let me explain. We all know that we must restructure. It is either we restructure or we break, you don’t have to be a prophet to know that one. That is certain – restructure or we break up.

“If we have a President and a Prime Minister and we share responsibilities between these two so that one is not an appendage to the other. For examples, if the President controls the Army and the Prime Minister controls the Police. If the President controls resources likes oil and mining and the Prime Minister controls finance and inland revenue, taxes, customs etc. You just divide responsibilities between the two.

“At the state level, you have the governor and the premier, and the same way, you distribute responsibilities these people in such a manner that one cannot really go without the other. Maybe we might begin to tackle the problems.

“If we are going to adopt the model, then we need to urgently restore the House of Chiefs. I have a feeling that one of our major problems is that we have pushed the traditional rulers to the background and I believe that is a grave error.

“Without any doubt, we must restructure and do it as soon as possible. A United States of Nigeria is likely to survive than our present structure.”

Abia State Government in conjunction with security agencies in the state has demolished some hideouts reportedly being used by men of the underworld in the Waterside area of Aba with some arrests made.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr ACB Agbazuere and the Ag Transition Council Chairman of Aba North LGA, Mrs Joy Iwuchukwu were joined by the State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede and other security heads in carrying out the exercise.

The affected locations included Aba abbatoir and Enyimba Hotel vicinities.

Some Nigerians have reacted angrily to the incessant killings and brutality by Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in the country after a young man was allegedly killed in Delta State.

A team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police allegedly killed a young man on Saturday.

The incident occurred in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli in Delta State.

The operatives allegedly shot the citizen and left the scene in the victim’s vehicle – a white Lexus jeep.

Following the development, angry Nigerians took to social media to express their displeasure over the incessant killing of Nigerians youths by security personnel meant to be shielding the citizens from harm.

They also called on the Federal Government to scrap the agency or put an end to the continuous killings of innocent citizens by SARS operatives.
