#EndSARS: Youths Doing What My Generation Failed To Do — CEO Godfather Production

A leading music producer in Nigeria, Uchenna Ogoke, the CEO Godfather Production has applauded the ongoing #EndSARS protest across the country.

He said the agitations are necessary to bring about a positive change, adding that change is constant in society and urgently needed in Nigeria.

While faulting his generation of youth for failure to act, he insisted that that was when the desire for change started which his generation failed to respond to.

“How can we have a population of over 200 million people with youths constituting over 70 per cent of the population, coupled with the amount of unemployment and you tell me you are happy. Meanwhile, someone sits one place, goes to work and earning billions and the youths are not getting anything but sitting at home idle.

“We know the future is in the hand of the youths, so I am in total support of what the youths are agitating. I’m in total support of what they are doing and it couldn’t have come at a better time than now. The youths have risen to their feet to cut out what their future should look like” he said.

The music production expert also called on authorities to create an enhanced welfare package for the police officers to curb bribery and corruption

He said the time has come for a holistic look into the welfare of the police to enhance effective performance.

He also berated the IGP of Police, Mohammed Adamu for merely renaming SARS to SWAT, describing it as just recycling.

According to Mr. Ogoke, there is a need to reevaluate the processes that brought the country to its current state especially in terms of ineffective policing system.

He called for the reorientation of police officers across the country for a more citizen-friendly police and secured society.

#EndSARS: SARS Operatives Extorted Me Twice — Oyo Deputy Governor

0

Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo State, has revealed how some operatives of the recently proscribed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) extorted money from him in various currencies including naira, dollars and pounds in Lagos.

Mr Olaniyan had last week declared his support for EndSARS protesters.

The deputy governor, while addressing the protesters last week, said that he was a victim of police brutality twice.

Mr Olaniyan, who spoke at the weekend, recounted how the special unit of the police collected money from him without being found guilty of any offence.

He said that on a particular occasion, while he was rushing to catch a flight, SARS operatives took all the monies he had on him (both local and foreign) and that even an appeal to them to spare him some to use when he gets to his destination fell on deaf ears.

He added that only reforms of the police will help address all the anomalies in the system.

“I was a victim twice, once at Ikeja roundabout and at Ojota ramp when you want to negotiate around Ikorodu road to the express.

“Ask my driver. We were ransacked there. What only saved me was the fact that I had some money with me. I had to part with over N100,000. It was terrible.

“That of Ikeja, they took pounds sterlings, they took dollar notes, all the money I had because I was travelling. I was eager to go and catch my flight, they emptied me.

“I even pleaded with them that I planned to spend the foreign currencies when I get to my destination, they said people there that I was going to meet will take care of me. They were very very notorious,” Mr Olaniyan said.

He said that banning SARS is not the only solution, but total reform of the police force.

“It is not only #EndSARS but we need complete police reformation. Some of them are very nice, good, decent and even professionals.

“But some of them may not even be in SARS outfit but they behave just like them, so what we need is a complete police reformation.

“If they disband SARS, they should be retrained on how to relate and deal with civil society,” he said.

SARS Has Been Beneficial – Nasarawa Governor

0

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State believes the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was helpful in tackling insecurity in some parts of the country.

The notorious police unit was last Sunday dissolved by the Inspector-General (IGP), Mohammed Adamu after days of protests calling for its scrapping.

But Governor Sule says a reformation of the unit would have been a better option and admitted that every system has its bad sides.

“What the northern governors are saying is: for some of us, SARS has benefited us,” the governor told Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

“So, what is going to be the replacement for SARS now that you have discarded it? Even in some of these southern states, there were so many other places where SARS had been useful. But just like any other part of our system, you would find the bad eggs that have done something wrong.”

According to him, “that is why some governors were asking for the reforming of the SARS. Instead of throwing the bathing water and the baby, go ahead and reform what is wrong.”Buttressing his point, the governor explained that SARS officials were handy in combating armed robbery in Nasarawa State.

“I got to understand that the SARS officers were actually well-trained officers to be able to face armed robbers and to be able to face those kinds of crimes which other policemen will not be able to do,” the governor who contested and won the seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) explained.
