ONLY PERSONS WITH SOLID BASE WILL BE ELECTED INTO PARTY POSITIONS, BUHARI TELLS APC STATE CHAIRMEN

Receiving state chairmen of the party led by the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, at State House, the President urged them to serve the party with all their might and see their ‘‘chairmanship’’ as part of national service.

President Buhari said the ‘‘bottom-to-top approach’’ would ensure that only popular party men and women represent the party’s interest at the national level.

‘‘In my own opinion, this is necessary so that Nigerians will know and understand that whoever sits in your states has the support of your respective constituencies from the state, to the local government, wards and polling units.

‘‘I want you to revisit the constitution of the party sooner than later. Your election will soon hold and I am going to take personal interest to make sure that the bottom-to-top is maintained and people are elected by their immediate and subsequent constituencies.

‘‘In Abuja, we want to deal with people who have a solid base from where they come,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the National Chairman said the National Working Committee of the party had decided to extend support on a monthly basis to all states chairmen to enable them run their respective offices effectively.

‘‘Whatever support we (NWC) are giving them is a small token in relation to the huge responsibilities entrusted to them,’’ he said.

Oshiomhole thanked the President on his recent directive on Board appointments, noting that party members were looking forward to filling some existing vacancies in government and contribute their quota to the vision of the Next Level Government.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the 36 State Party Chairmen of APC, Hon. Ali Bukar congratulated the President on his victory in the February 23 presidential election which was also reaffirmed by the Supreme Court.

Bukar said the success of the Buhari administration in the economy, security and governance sectors must be sustained so that Nigerians will enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has commiserated with the people of Afaraukwu Ibeku following the death of their traditional ruler HRM Eze Sir I. O. Kanu, the Egwu Ukwu II of Afaraukwu Ibeku, at the age of 86 years.

Describing his death as a rude shock, Ikpeazu in a release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu said the traditional ruler’s unwavering love and sterling contributions to the development of his community in particular, and Abia State in general, are well documented, adding that he left a lasting legacy and an indelible impression on the minds of Ndigbo everywhere in the world.

“Death is not the end of man but a necessary passage to a better place in eternity where there is no strife, sorrow or pain. Indeed, Papa has only gone to that better place, and in his usual manner while on earth here, he is praying for all of us from above, especially for the peace, unity and progress of not just his community but also of our State and Alaigbo.

“This should be our consolation so that his beloved family and community he left behind do not continue to weep since we all know that he is resting peacefully now”.

While praying for the soul of the deceased to rest in eternal glory, the Governor assured the family that the state will continue to help ameliorate their pains.

“As a government, we assure the family of late Eze Sir I.O. Kanu and Afaraukwu community of our continued support in all ways we can to help ameliorate the pains of his departure.

“Lastly, we pray that God in His infinite mercies grant the soul of our late Eze eternal rest. Amen!” he concluded.

BUHARI URGES STATES TO SIMPLIFY LAND OWNERSHIP PROCESS

0

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja appealed to state governments to simplify the process of land ownership in their domains to enable more Nigerians access bank facilities for affordable homes.

Receiving the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) led by the chairman, Dr Uche Olowu, the President expressed concern on some challenges, such as land and other collateral related issues, hindering the banking industry’s ability to lend to the real sector.

As a Government, we are also facing such challenges as part of our various affordable housing programmes. But I am urging State Governments to assist by simplifying and rationalising land matters,” he said.

Commending the banking industry for increasing their lending in key job-creating areas such as agriculture in the last four years, the President welcomed their collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria in this regard, noting that the partnership had been a “key anchor” to the food security programme of his administration.

We can only feed ourselves by deploying capital to the right areas. I implore the banking community to keep this trend up, ” he said.

Affirming that the banking sector is critical to the economic development of any society, President Buhari said he is proud that Nigeria has the most vibrant, creative and innovative banking sector in Africa.

Nigerian bankers have not only proved themselves in Nigeria alone but across the entire continent and in other parts of the world.

“I am proud when I visit African countries and see posters or branches of Nigerian banks. I will ask all your members to continue to be great Ambassadors of Nigeria as you expand within Africa and beyond, ” the President said.

In his remarks, Dr Olowu expressed gratitude to President Buhari for the plethora of interventions to drive inclusive growth in the country, through initiatives such as Anchor Borrowers Programme, the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative, and diligent progress in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, among others.

The chairman declared the Institute’s support for the current policy by the Federal Government to close Nigeria’s land borders.

He said the policy would protect and promote Made-in-Nigeria products as well as prevent the country from being used as a dumpsite for substandard products and other illicit cross border activities.

The Institute’s chairman also raised topical issues affecting the Nigerian economy especially the banking sector.

Kalu’s Conviction Politically Motivated – Nnamdi Kanu

0

The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has described former governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s ill- advised conviction over alleged fraud and money laundering as politically motivated.

Nnamdi Kanu in a statement made available to ABN TV on Thursday said he warned Senator Kalu that the northerners do not love the Igbos.

He said this is because of the pathological hatred Alimajiris have towards Biafrans (Igbos especially) because their industry and ingenuity expose their mediocrity.

He, however, described Kalu as one who is committed to one Nigeria.

The statement reads,

“I warned him when he came to see me in Kuje Prison that those illiterate unity begging Alimajiris from the desert don’t love him but he wouldn’t listen.”

“I warned him that Fulani caliphate will not rest until they conquer, subdue and enslave the entire East and West because of their sense of inferiority complex, but he wouldn’t listen.”

“I warned him of the pathological hatred these Alimajiris have towards Biafrans (Igbos especially) because our industry and ingenuity expose their mediocrity, but he wasn’t having it. He was a committed One Nigeria apologist.”

“I reminded him of what happened to Ken Saro Wiwa who like him believed so much in One Nigeria and ended up being killed by the same Alimajiri he served so dilligently against Biafra, but he wouldn’t listen.”

“Today they are picking them off one after the other because they know IPOB won’t fight for any Efulefu. If he had known what was to become of him, he would have done exactly what I told him during our meeting, join the nearest IPOB family and support the Biafra restoration project. Isn’t it ironic the only thing that will save Orji Uzor Kalu now is the coming of Biafra. Will Dave Umahi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Willie Obiano, Rochas Okorocha learn from this?”

In a release signed by the chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu has ordered all relevant agencies of the Abia State Government to work with security agencies to effectively and decisively carry out these instructions.

Security agencies according to the release are hereby authorized to arrest and prosecute any person who attempts to flout this order.

He emphasised that those who wish to do business are advised to find spaces for their trading inside the market.

He insisted that the government is fully determined to put an end to indiscriminate street trading and restore decency around our market environments and indeed along all major streets across the state.

SOME LEGAL FACTS ABOUT THE CONVICTION OF SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU By Barr. Monday Ubani

0
Man Exposed How Orji Kalu Bribed Him With Humility And Sincerity
Dr Orji Uzor Kalu

1. He remains a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under this new term of 4 years unless:

(a) He is recalled by his constituents.
(b) His seat is declared vacant by the Senate President if he is unable to attend legislative sittings to a certain period allowed by the constitution.
(c) he dies while serving the sentence before his term in the senate is exhausted(God forbid).

He has a right of appeal up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He cannot bring any application for stay of execution as the Administration of Criminal Justice Act has outlawed such measures, but he can bring application for his bail pending the hearing of his appeal.

This application is not granted as of right as applicable to when he had not been convicted. For now, he has lost the right of presumption of innocence given to every accused person.

The ground/s upon which his bail application can be granted must be on exceptional grounds, part of which has to do with serious health challenge/s that has grievous consequences if he is allowed to remain in prison to pursue his appeal.

Due to his legal right of appeal which will take him as far as to Supreme Court, he is not in the eyes of the law yet as an Ex-convict until the final pronouncement of the highest court in the land is made about him on these offences he is alleged to have committed. If the Supreme Court finally pronounces him guilty as charged(unless the case does not get up to that level) he will be disqualified from contesting for any future political office until after 10 years after serving.

HE WILL ANSWER SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU UNTIL FOR LIFE because his election to the office of a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was confirmed recently by the Court of Appeal on National Assembly and Gubernatorial Election Matters.

If he is finally confirmed guilty by the Supreme Court, he can contest the election in Nigeria for any position only after 10 solid years in abeyance.

Orji Kalu: Lagos High Court judgement, temporary setback, distraction - Lawyer

Following the ‘ill-advised conviction’ of former Governor of Abia and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, of alleged N7.65bn fraud, a legal practitioner has declared that there was no cause for alarm.

Speaking with ABN TV in a telephone interview shortly after the court ruling on Thursday afternoon, Victor Etie, Esq., faulted the judgement, insisting that it was unknown to law and cannot stand.

“This is just a temporal distraction from his (Kalu’s) legislative duty, we are challenging it. We are sure of victory just like the Tribunal case. The ruling cannot stand.

“How can you say a company (Slok) that has been in existence before he became governor should be wind up? Does it make sense?.”

Asked if the judgement has direct legal implications on his (Kalu’s) seat as senator and office as Chief Whip, Barr. Otie said the positions would not be affected.

“Kalu remains a Senator and Senate Chief Whip, the position and office as Senator are not affected”, he said.

On whether the court ruling would be appealed, the legal practitioner said the judgement will be appealed from the Appeal Court up to the Supreme Court, insisting that there was no cause for alarm.
