EFCC Nabs Two Brothers, 13 others for Alleged Internet Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office on Thursday, February 13, 2020, arrested two siblings – Olanrewaju Olatunji (19) and Femi Olatunji (29) – and thirteen others for their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.

The suspects were apprehended at Alafara area of Ibadan, Oyo State, following intelligence earlier received on their alleged fraudulent activities.

The thirteen others, whose ages range between 16 and 48 years, are: Abiodun Ojo, Lawal Ahmed, Adedeji Olatunbosun, Adeniyi Ramon, and Oladipupo Oluwatobilola.

Others are: Ayomide Olawale, Elegbede Wale, Victor Adaramoye, Timileyin Adeniran, Kunmi Joshua, Tawfeeq Ibrahim, Funmbi Samuel and Adeyemo Yinka.

At the point of their arrest, three exotic cars, phones, laptops, international passports, Point of Sale (POS) machine, and some incriminating documents were recovered from the suspects,

PDP’s Diri cannot be sworn in as Bayelsa Gov – Oshiomhole

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has declared candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Douye Diri cannot be sworn in on Friday as Bayelsa Governor because he did not meet the requirements of the Supreme Court.

Oshiomhole pointed out the judgment of the Supreme Court said the certificate of return should be issued to the candidate, who has the required spread in the election aside from David Lyon.

He said there was no candidate in the election that met the requirement apart from Lyon, adding that the implication is that from Friday Bayelsa will be without a Governor.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Thursday, February 13, 2020, arraigned Abayomi Kukoyi, Prince Okpala, Prince Okpalaeze and Prince Okpalaeze alongside a company, Petro Union & Gas Company Limited, before Justice Mohammad Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, attempt to steal and forgery to the tune of £2,556,000,000.00 (Two Billion, Five Hundred and Fifty-six Million Pounds).

One of the counts reads: “That you, Petro Union Oil and Gas Company Limited, Prince Isaac Okpala (now deceased), Abayomi Kukoyi, Prince Kingsley Okpala, Prince Chidi Okpalaeze, Prince Emmanuel Okpalaeze and Princess Gladys Okpalaeze (now at large), on or about 29th December, 1994, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, fraudulently procured a Barclays Bank cheque dated 29th December, 1994 in the sum of £2,556,000,000.00 (Two Billion, Five Hundred and Fifty- six million Pounds) made payable to Gladstone Kukoyi & Associates, purporting the said cheque to be meant for foreign investment in the construction of three refineries and petrochemical complex in Nigeria, when you knew the said cheque to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (2) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 and punishable under the same section.”

Another count reads: “That you, Petro Union Oil and Gas Company Limited, Prince Isaac Okpala( now deceased), Abayomi Kukoyi, Prince Kingsley Okpala, Prince Chidi Okpalaeze, Prince Emmanuel Okpalaeze and Princess Gladys Okpaleze( now at large) on or about 10th April, 2007, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, forged a certain document to wit: statement of account in the name of Goldmatic Limited purportedly issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria in account number: 10382175, wherein you falsely claimed that the Central Bank had in its custody the sum of £2,159,221,313.54 (Two Billion, One Hundred and Fifty- nine Million, Two Hundred and Twenty-one Thousand, Three Hundred and Thirteen Pounds and Fifty-four Shillings) in favour of Goldmatic Limited and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 467(2) (i) of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section.”

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges preferred against them.

In view of the plea, the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, asked the court for a trial date and also prayed that the defendants be remanded in the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS.

Counsel to the defendants, however, told the court about pending applications for bail on behalf of their clients.

Consequently, Justice Liman adjourned the matter to February 19, 2020 for hearing of the bail applications and commencement of trial.

The defendants were remanded in the EFCC custody.

BREAKING: Imo House Of Assembly Bans Protests

Following rising tension in Imo State over the last Supreme Court Judgement, the Imo House of Assembly has banned any further protest in the state.

Imo state House Of Assembly said protests have become dangerous events exposing residents to danger in the state.

The Assembly also warned the PDP to stop crying wolf over the ruling of the Apex Court on Tuesday 14th January on the governorship election in the state.

The lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzondinma and the Supreme Court.

Police warn Nnamdi Kanu against using parents’ burial as propaganda tool, say CCTV cameras around his house illegal

The Abia State Police command has accused the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of playing propaganda and maligning security agencies in the state with the burial of his parents, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife ABN TV reports.

The police also accused Nnamdi Kanu of blackmailing the police in the state, insisting that the Force will resist attempts to truncate the peace currently enjoyed by the people of Afaraukwu community and Umuahia in general.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ene Okon said the police is prepared to guarantee peace and security of Abians and residents during the burial ceremony slated to take place on Friday, February 14, 2020.

CP Okon denied allegation that he is trying to scuttle the burial ceremony of the late traditional ruler, saying he has mobilized men of the state command, prepared them well to ensure that there will be peaceful burial ceremony.

While revealing that half the number of Afaraukwu Community have deserted the area over mounting tension, he accused people he described as outsiders of attempting to hijack the burial of their Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife.

The police chief alleged that intelligence report reveals that some people suspected to be members of IPOB were smuggled into the late Royal father’s compound, urging the traditional council of Afaraukwu not to allow IPOB members whom he said are outsiders to Bury the late king.

The police also frowned at the mounting of CCTV cameras on public roads around his house by Nnamdi Kanu, saying it is illegal and has security implications.

While reiterating that the police is committed to a hitchfree burial of the late traditional ruler and his wife, CP Okon appealed to elders in the community to warn Nnamdi Kanu against scuttling the exercise through propaganda.

He also ordered the immediate dismantling of CCTV cameras in public roads around Nnamdi Kanu’s compound.

He called on those leaving the community not to leave again, saying he and members of the state police command will guarantee them adequate security.

A combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police have allegedly abducted Jewish worshippers at Isiala-Ngwa Junction who were on their way to attend the burial ceremony of the parents of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife.

This is according to a post by Nnamdi Kanu on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

He said, “Information reaching me now is that two buses conveying Jewish worshippers on their way to my hometown Isiama-Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia Abia State for the funeral of my parents have been abducted at Isiala-Ngwa Junction by a combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police. They are currently being detained in their barracks”.

The Abia State Police command had earlier in the day accused Nnamdi Kanu of importing strangers into Afara community to truncate the peace and stability currently enjoyed by the people.
