Two Nigerian gay men are trending on social media after they professed love to each other on Twitter.

One of the them identified as Dan Yomi who came out as gay sometimes around 2018 as a student in the United Kingdom, mentioned that society pressure almost made them get married to women.

He further stated that he is glad they are together and this is their 3rd Valentine’s day celebration together.

Sex for Grades: Ex-UNIBEN female students reject panel date over security fears

A group under the aegis of the University of Benin English and Literary Students and Alumni Facebook group, has rejected the date by a University of Benin panel to interview former students alleging sexual harassment against lecturers at the Department of English and Literary Studies.

The group, in a petition co-signed by its convener Obaigbo Aoiri and scribe Toyin Adepoju and made available to The Nation yesterday, expressed concern over “issues of security”, while urging the panel to consider using Skype or Whatsapp platforms to “eliminate questions of security.”

He said the fears by former students over possible acts of vengeance by their accusers or supporters stemmed from open threats during debates on the petition.

Obaigbo alleged that secret cult groups supporting one of the lecturers “openly threatened” victims during debates on the petition.

His words,” These fears are validated by open threats invoking secret cult affiliations in support of one of the accused lecturers during debates on the petition on the Facebook platform of the group.”

According to the group, the killing last year and a daylight attack on a student in open view of a busy faculty reinforce these developments.

The group said,” On account of these fears, we humbly request the university consider interviewing the students making the allegations through such remote and easily accessible communication facilities like Skype or preferably WhatsApp, which can be accessed as video and voice and recorded.”

39-year-old marriage crash after woman denies husband sex

A mother of four, Mrs Janet Ayoola, lost her 39-year-old marriage to her husband, Olajide Ayoola, for denying him sex for seven years.

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Monday granted the request of Janet’s estranged husband, Olajide, for dissolution of the marriage.

The Court’s President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, said that since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court was left with no option than to grant him his wish.

“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mr Olajide Ayoola and Mrs Janet Ayoola dissolved today. Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.

“Two of you should go on your separate ways unmolested. The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavour,” Koledoye ruled.

He, however, ordered Olajide to pay severance of N200, 000 to Janet for her to move on with her life.

The 70-year-old pensioner had earlier approached the court to terminate his marriage, accusing his wife of starving him of sex.

“Janet who stayed under the same roof with me refused me to make love to her for a good seven years. She will not even allow me to touch her, let alone sleep with her,” the petitioner told the court.

Ayoola said that his wife wanted to terminate his life so as to inherit his property.

“She had attacked me both physically and spiritually,” he said.

The embittered husband said that Janet lacked care for him.

“My wife had to employ some domestic staff who came to wash my clothes and cooked for me.

“Janet was an ungrateful woman. I had established businesses for her severally but the businesses collapsed due to her inability to manage them well.

“ My wife is a fighter; she fights me and everybody on the street,” Ayoola said.

The petitioner said that the respondent lacked respect for him and also instigated their children against him.

He pleaded with the court to end their marriage on the ground of lack of love.

“Please court terminate our marriage because my wife may succeed one day by killing me in my sleep,” he begged.

The respondent denied all the allegations.

She made a fervent plea to the court not to annul their marriage, saying that she still loved her husband.

The 58-year-old businesswoman said that she did not starve her husband of sex.

“My husband asked me to leave our room for another room, claiming I snored.

“I never made any attempt to kill my husband nor instigated any of our children against him,” Janet said.

The mother of four said that her husband always refused her food for reason best known to him.

EFCC urge youths to shun criminality, easy money

The Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Port Harcourt Zonal Head, Usman Imam has warned youths to stay away from all acts of criminality and easy money.

Imam spoke after the Ten million man walk against corruption organised by the EFCC and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Imam declared that young people must be vanguards of the fight against corruption because their future depends on it.

“The future that the Nigerian youth deserves is not going to be secured through corruption and engagement in acts of criminality such as cybercrime, advanced fee fraud and money laundering. They can secure a blissful future through the pursuit of legitimate businesses and vocations.

“The youths must shun criminality and strive to rescue the country from the grips of corruption. They are to take ownership of the anti-graft war. For this reason, it is imperative that we sensitize them and recruit them to fight in the anti-corruption army.

“This message is inviting all Nigerian youths from all nooks and crannies to say no to corruption and together we can win the war. If everybody is determined and we wrestle down corruption then we can build functioning and effective institution and take our position within the committee of nations.

“Wherever the youths are found, they should embrace this call and tell themselves that they will fight corruption, say no to corruption also stay away from it.

“The youths should stay away from looking for easy money through internet fraud, cybercrime and 419 instead they should embrace hard work and find ways to make it as a society.” He said.

The State Coordinator, NYSC, Rivers State, Mr Chinwendu Chukwu represented by Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs Agulue Okoye reminded corps members that they are change agents that are expected to trigger the change in any part of the country where they are found.

” We want to use this medium to tell other organizations that the NYSC is the willing bride that most organisations come around to partner with because our youths who are also leaders of tomorrow are change agents and they trigger us the different change we need in the different corners of the nation.

” Corps members are agents of change and they are youths as well, their involvement in this walk is to further sensitize the public on the effects of corruption in the society,” he said.

He assured EFCC that Corp members will carry the fight against corruption down to their different places of primary assignments.

Protesters Storm APC Headquarters, Demand Oshiomhole’s Sack

Dozens of protesters are currently protesting at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to demand for the sack of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole.

The protesters under the aegis of the APC Young Stakeholders, stormed the party headquarters as early as 11:00am with various placards with inscriptions such as: “Oshiomhole Must Go”, “Oshiomhole go home”, “We are tired of losing” etc.

One of the leaders of the protesters who gave his name as Mathias Omikpa, said the APC young stakeholders were tired of recording reversals of their victories on account of the tardiness of the party chairman.

He said, “It is time for Oshiomhole to go, we are tired of this downward trend. The National Chairman has brought nothing but misfortunes to our party from Zamfara to Rivers now Bayelsa. We are calling on President, (Major General) Muhammadu Buhari (retd), National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.”

North has lost its privilege in APC under Oshiomhole- Babachir Lawal

Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has described the All Progressives Congress (APC), his party, as a “funny” organisation.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja at the weekend, Lawal said Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman, and his loyalists suspended Lawal Shaibu, deputy vice-chairman (north), and Inuwa Abdulkadir, vice-chairman (north-west).

Shaibu and Oshiomhole were at loggerheads before his suspension while Abdulkadir was accused of anti-party activities before he was suspended.

The former SGF said Oshiomhole’s action has resulted in the disenfranchisement of members of the party from the north.

“This APC is funny, as we speak, the chairman and his loyalists have suspended the deputy national chairman (north), the whole north, the chairman, national vice-chairman (north-west) which is the largest geographical zone with seven states has been suspended, he is no longer attending national working committee meeting,” he said.

“The national secretary of the party who is from the north, from Yobe, has left to become governor of Yobe state as we speak, there is no firm decision to his replacement.

“For more than one year or so. A very substantial part of the country is not represented in the decision making.”

Lawal said Oshiomhole does not involve members of the national working committee (NWC) in decision making.

“I’m quite close to members of the NWC, they always complain about not being carried along so the chairman of a party is not an executive president where whatever you say is, you need to carry everyone along,” he said.

“That is the essence, a national vice-chairman north-east, for example, he is for north-east and there are things unique to the area which he is aware of, which his own exco has brought to him for processing at the national secretariat. If he does not get the proper hearing and opportunity to present those things they are disenfranchised.”

The former SGF wondered what Bisi Akande reconciliation panel is set to achieve.

According to him, it is better for politicians to cut their losses and nurse their wounds rather than be reconciled.

“In politics, sometimes it is better not to reconcile, somebody must lose out,” he said.

“First of all, there has to be confidence restored in the NWC that they have the capacity to be impartial and fair in the decisions they take on behalf of party members. As I speak I don’t think there is any APC member that can confidently tell you that he expects the NWC to be fair and just in some of the cases because we lost the election on account of this.”

Lawal said though Oshiomhole is doing his best, the party needs to be reorganised.

Simon Egbebulem, a spokesman of Oshiomhole, is yet to make comments on the allegation.
