Eta Mbora, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member of the house of representatives, has introduced a bill seeking to provide automatic employment for graduates after their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Mbora added that the bill seeks to officially increase the allowance of corps members to cater to their needs.

He said although the federal government recently increased the allowance, the action is not backed by the law and will only be legal with the amendment.

Former Emir of Gwandu, Major Mustapha Jokolo (rtd), has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari recognises his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari as “deputy president.”

Gwandu was reacting to the face-off between the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babangana Monguno, and Kyari over the coordination of the country’s security.

He urged Buhari to sack both Monguno and Kyari for being “greedy and selfish” in the discharge of their duties.

The former Aide-De-Camp to Buhari during the President’s military regime stated while featuring on a radio programme in Kaduna.

Jokolo reminded both Kyari and Monguno that Nigeria was greater than any individual, hence they should remember that all was watching.

He said: “The misunderstanding between them was borne out of greed, selfishness, if not, these two are brothers. They are all Muslims and from the same tribe. President Buhari had brought them to assist him in different roles, why then should there be any conflict of roles?

“Truly, General Monguno had complained, but he did not refer his complaints to the right people. He should have written directly to President Buhari, on how he felt about his Chief of Staff.

This is because Buhari tends to recognize his Chief of Staff as his ‘Deputy President. “Buhari had said everything should be done through the Chief of Staff, this implies that Buhari has given him limitless power and he can do anything. But this is a misnomer.”

Recall that a circular from the office of the NSA had a few days ago alleged that Kyari had hijacked the coordination of security leadership in Nigeria. In the circular, Monguno had alleged that Buhari’s Chief of Staff had sidelined him in making strategic decisions on national security operations.

A daughter of the President, Hanan Buhari, has finally responded to allegations that the Department of State Services detained a trader, Anthony Okolie, for 10 weeks for using a telephone line that was earlier used by her.

Hanan said although she had received complaints from relatives that someone was using her old line to solicit money, she never reported the matter to the DSS.

The President’s daughter said this in a counter-affidavit to the originating motion filed by Okolie.

Okolie had sued the DSS, Hanan and company, MTN for his 10-week ordeal in the security services’ detention.

The trader had accused the DSS of detaining him for 10 weeks, denying him bail and access to his lawyers for using a telephone line that was earlier owned by Hanan.

He alleged that the DSS detained him for 10 weeks because Hanan, who was schooling in the United Kingdom at the time, failed to come forward to clear him.

In an affidavit deposed to on her behalf by one Idris Abdullahi, the President’s daughter said she should not have been joined in the suit because she had no idea that Okolie was ever arrested.

The affidavit read in part, “I was informed by the 2nd respondent (Hanan) in our office on February 15, 2020, around 4pm… that she never made any complaint against any Mr. Anthony Okolie to any officer in State Security Service or any other law enforcement agency.

“That she was not privileged to even know anybody with the name Anthony Okolie and has never reported him or any other person to any law enforcement agency in Nigeria or any other country throughout her life.

“That although she was not happy with the public complaint that someone had been using her old SIM card to solicit for financial assistance using her name, she never complained to any authority and she was not aware that the person’s name was Anthony Okolie until the media published it.”

The President’s daughter said she didn’t have the powers to give the DSS orders to detain anyone.

2023: Why Power Must Remain in The North — Shettima

0

The National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima has said that the North is not prepared to release political power in 2023 to the South.

While noting that such days are over, stressed that the former president Goodluck Jonathan breached the zoning agreement by contesting and winning the 2011 presidential election.

Shettima, in an exclusive interview with Saturday Sun was reacting to a statement by the former governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, that the North should relinquish power in 2023 to focus on economic power to empower its people.

Speaking with our reporter yesterday, Shettima stated that Yero does not speak for the North, noting that his status as former governor of Kaduna State does not confer on him the leader of the North.

He said: “Nobody should think that the North will just sit and handover power to the South on a kangaroo arrangement that is unconstitutional, those days are over since 2011. Jonathan jettisoned the previous arrangement by refusing to step down and allowed a Northern candidate through consensus to come on board. The North has only ruled for nine years as against the years the South has ruled since 1999. Why is it that when Northern people speak, because they don’t believe in propaganda, people blackmail them? We are not going to break the country because of this, but we are just asking others to see reasons with us.”

The witness said; “There are these steep roads that connect to the road, and the spot where the officers were based is shaped like a wedge. That is the road the young man used to escape. On realizing he could not catch the young man, the officer shouted at him many times. But there is little he could do as the man vanished into the bushes.”

The witness further added that one male police officer attempted to pursue the thief, however, his efforts were in vain as he couldn’t get hold of him.

Prior to the incident, the officers had reportedly stopped at least four vehicles for inspection with other officers who had gathered the cash at a central point for sharing at the end of the day’s operation when the thief outsmarted them.
