Popular Nollywood actress, Ngozi Ezeonu has been dragged for marrying off her daughter, Odechukwu Ediwa Ezeonu, without getting the father’s consent.

It should be noted that the said daughter got married on Saturday, February 15, in a classy traditional ceremony held in Asaba, Delta state.

Media also reported that the girl’s daughter, who is also Ngozi’s ex-husband, Denis Ikpelue, was not present at the event.

In a viral media report, the man said that the daughter got married without his hand, saying that the Igbo tradition does not allow a woman to give out a daughter’s hand in marriage.

He was quoted as saying that such is an “abomination and taboo”, adding that “…as long as I and the entire family of Ezeonu and his kindred are concerned, Ogechukwu Edwina Ezeonu is not married.”

Dennis described the marriage ceremony like the one that happens in Nollywood movies, saying it is not a real one.

“Ogechukwu Edwina Ezeonu is yet to marry. What happened at Asaba Delta State on the 15th of February 2020 was the usual Nollywood home video film shooting. As at the time I lived with Ngozi Denis Ikpelue, I have three children; a daughter and two boys,” he said.

Currently trending on social media is the story of how a married Nigerian man identified as Samuel Usoro, got exposed by a widow for being verbally abusive in her DM.

Identified as Obong-anwan Phoenix, she took to the Facebook platform to recount how Usoro had been sending her messages since 2014, expressing interest in her.

Despite ignoring him, he never stopped. However, things got pretty heated after he attempted to video-call her. She got annoyed and called him out on it.

Usoro, in turn, took to calling her all sorts of names, advising her to get married as she is getting old.

Part of her post reads: “What did I do wrong? Say I no answer am? So you don’t get attention from a woman and she is a Wh0re, she gives you the attention and still sleeps with you and she’s still a wh0re. I have never done this kind of expose but I am pissed. I am heartbroken at the same time. This man does not even know anything about me. He does not know I was married with children, he does not know I am a widow. All he sees is a single woman who is desperate and old enough to be married. Well, I will hate myself later for doing this. I am not shaming him for trying to be fresh with me, I am shaming him for the insults he gave me. Cos I haven’t been myself since then and this is my way of getting back at him. I don’t care what comes out of this, but for the meantime, let me give myself the justice.

The joy of every intending parent is to have the opportunity to welcome their own children and raise them up as they so desire.

While some are lucky to be blessed with children almost immediately they start trying, it isn’t the same for others who spend a long time waiting to be blessed with the joy of parenthood.

This was the case for a Nigerian man identified as Tony Abayomi Alder. He waited 23 whole years to become a father. Though the wait was long and difficult, it eventually happened for the missionary worker and his wife.

They welcomed a set of twin boys. However, things turned tragic when barely seven months after the twins were born, Alder passed on.

Entrepreneur Ibukun Awosik took to Instagram to break the tragic news. Ibukun who had nothing but kind words to describe the deceased with, revealed he died on February 23, 2020.

That you will be missed is an understatement. I am grateful to God that, after waiting for 23 years, you witnessed the birth and enjoyed being a father to your twin boys, if only for 7 months. We truly love you but humbly submit to the will of God. May you forever be remembered for your cheerful service to the God you loved so much, your faithfulness as a husband to Toyin and your love of all around you.”

EU Plans To Impose Visa Restrictions On Nigerians

The European Union is planning to soon tighten the procedures for getting a Schengen Visa for the nationals of Nigeria, as the latter is failing to play its part in the return and readmission of its nationals staying illegally in Europe.

According to the EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Virginie Battu-Henriksson, the EU may introduce several measures what will make it more difficult for Nigerians to get a Schengen Visa, as a result of the country’s noncooperating government.

“What the EU can do since new rules on short-stay visas to the EU became applicable on 2 February 2020, is to adapt the rules on processing short-stay visa applications, depending on whether a non-EU country cooperates satisfactorily on the return and readmission of their nationals staying irregularly in the EU,” Battu-Henriksson explains while adding that this is by no way a ban on Nigerian nationals, like the one the US President Donald Trump introduced lately on Nigeria.

The new rules on Schengen visas that Battu-Henriksson mentions derive from the recently updated Schengen Visa code, which the EU Commission to regularly assess the level of cooperation of non-EU countries on the readmission of irregular migrants.

If the level of cooperation is insufficient, the commission, together with member states, can decide on a temporary more restrictive implementation of certain provisions of the visa code.

This could have an impact on the processing time, the length of validity of the visa to be issued, the level of the visa fee to be charged and the fee waivers.

Politicians Who Move In Large Convoys Are Not Responsible, Says Peter Obi

The former governor of Anambra state and vice presidential candidate of the PDP in 2019, Mr. Peter Obi, has criticised Nigerian politicians who move around in large convoys, saying that they are not responsible while attributing the practice to the high level of insecurity in the country which these politicians have failed to tackle.

The former governor said this while speaking at the 8th Convocation of Veritas University in Abuja on Saturday where he was the keynote speaker.

The former governor recounted how during his tenure as governor, he moved with a convoy of 22 cars until he discovered that 13 carried no official.

He said, “We have to be innovative in politics. We have to get the right people who are prepared to save this country. We are in a bad situation. I am in a bad situation. Anybody who tells you that we are doing well is lying. I live in fear every day. “The insecurity is totally unacceptable. One of the greatest cures for insecurity is to get people employed. Let us shut down the cost of governance. “You see big people going round with 15 or 20 vehicles and causing confusion all over the place and disturbing public peace and everybody with his own big title.”

“If I was coming here with 20 policemen, to Nigerians, that shows I am ‘Your Excellency’. That is irresponsibility; it doesn’t happen anywhere in the world.

“There is no place in the world that I have seen where one man moves around with 22 vehicles. It is madness. I used it as a governor. You will not believe it. I used it as a governor until I asked to find out one day how many of the cars people were occupying, and about 13 of the cars were empty.”

Italy suspends Serie A football games over coronavirus fears

Italy’s top football league has postponed three matches scheduled for Sunday in the northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto after the deaths of two people infected with the coronavirus.

On orders from the Italian government, the Serie A games between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, Atalanta and Sassuolo as well as Hellas Verona and Cagliari were called off.

Three other matches in Genoa, Turin and Rome on Sunday were due to go ahead as scheduled.

A dozen towns in northern Italy effectively went into lockdown on Saturday after the deaths of two people infected with the coronavirus and a growing cluster of cases with no direct links to the origin of the outbreak abroad.

“The government is working on urgent measures to decisively confront and contain the cases of coronavirus contagion,” read a letter from Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora to Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malago shortly before midnight local time on Saturday.

“Following measures taken by the cabinet for protective reasons and maximum precaution, on orders of the government, I am asking you to suspend all sports events of every level and discipline planned for the Lombardy and Veneto regions on Sunday,” the letter said.

Already on Saturday, the Ascoli-Cremonese game in Serie B was postponed, as well as Piacenza-Sambenedettese in Serie C. Four Serie C games scheduled for Sunday has also been postponed.

On Thursday, Inter is also slated to host Ludogrets in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 32.

“It’s obvious that gatherings at sports events are among the events where the most difficulties could occur,” Spadafora said earlier Saturday in Rome at the Six Nations rugby game between Italy and Scotland, which was attended by 55,000 fans.

Sports events across China and Asia have also been suspended amid fears that the Tokyo Olympics, due to open in five months, could also be affected.

We won’t stop the fight for Biafra — Nnamdi Kanu’s family vows, says family not divided

The family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has said that the death of their parents has even united them the more, contrary to expectations of many that the family will be divided.

Though their elder brother, Nnamdi who is the first son of the family was absent at their parents’ burial ceremony, the family of late Israel and Ugoeze Sally Kanu said that they were grateful that the burial of their parents was a huge success.

Addressing journalists at their Isiama Afaraukwu country home, the spokesman of the family, Kanunta Kingsley Kanu said, “I want to tell you journalists that our family members are happy with you, with what you did during the burial and we say a big thank you”.

Mr. Kanu emphasized that the family is also grateful to the Abia state police command for the manner they conducted themselves which contributed to the peace that reigned during the burial.

The family said it was happy that despite the altercations between the police and IPOB before the burial, the commissioner of police, Ene Okon exhibited true sense of professionalism in the way he maintained security in the state on the day of the burial.

He said now their parents were no more, the family would strive to remain united and resolute in the fight for the actualization of Biafra, a movement which they said that their parents believed in.
