The Enugu Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned one Ikechukwu Prospect Onyeka, before Justice Onuoha A.K. Ogwe, of the Abia State High Court, Umuahia, on a two count charge of impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.

Onyeka was alleged to have posed as a staff of EFCC, offering to help a complainant bring an end to his case, if he would pay him some money.

The petitioner in a statement signed by the Acting Head, Media and Publicity the commission, Tony Orilade and made available to ABN TV on Wednesday disclosed that he became suspicious of the defendant knowing that the EFCC brings professionalism and integrity of the EFCC in carrying out its duties. When the petitioner contacted the EFCC, he was advised to play along with the defendant while a trap was set for him by the Commission. He was arrested when he went to his bank to cash the sum sent to his account as bait.

The offences according to the charges are contrary to Section 484 of the Criminal Code Law, CAP 80, Law of Abia State of Nigeria, 2005, and punishable under Section 484 of the same law and Section 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No.14 of 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act, respectively.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges while Justice Onuoha adjourned till April 2 and 9 for commencement of trial. He ordered the defendant to be remanded in Umuahia correctional facility.

The Kano State Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 26, 2010, arrested the former speaker and now minority leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Isiyaku Ali Danja for alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of fund meant for constituency projects.

Danja got into trouble following a petition that funds meant for payment of tax liabilities to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) by Kano State Government were allegedly diverted and misappropriated to the tune of over N1, 500,000,000 (One Billion, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) from the sub-treasury account of the state government.

The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned a 26-year-old corps member, Oluwatosin Medaiyese before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for alleged impersonation.

The charge presented by the prosecution counsel read, “That you Oluwatosin Medaiyese “M” on or before 30th January 2020 at Osogbo did falsely represent yourself as Hon. Justice Aliyu Jimoh to Emmanuel Attah Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the intent of fraudulently securing the posting of Corps members to their desired places of primary assignment and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 108 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State 2002.

Medaiyese, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The counsel to the accused, Mr. Omaniyi Abifarin applied for bail for his client.

He said the alleged offense against Medaiyese is a bailable offense and the accused person is currently on a one-year mandatory service with National Youth Service Corps in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Abifarin assured the court that the accused person will provide reliable surety if granted bail.

The magistrate, Adebola Ajanaku granted the accused person bail in N100,000 with one surety and adjourned the case to 25th March 2020 for hearing.
