BREAKING: 9 Imo Lawmakers Defect To APC

At least nine members of the Imo state house of assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Colins Chiji, the speaker, read the defection letters of the lawmakers who are from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Action Alliance (AA) on Tuesday.

The house was not in session when the supreme court sacked Emeka Ihedioha as governor, replacing him with Hope Uzodinma.

Ihedioha, who was declared winner of the March election, is of the PDP while Uzodinma is a member of the APC.

The PDP defectors are Chyna Iwuanyanwu (Nwangele), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa(Okigwe), Heclus Okorocha (Ohaji/Egbema), Paul Emeziem (Onuimo).

Apex Igbo Youth socio Cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC), has warned Timi Frank, the disgraced erstwhile APC spokesperson, against disparaging Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State or risk having his putrefying antecedents exposed.
The group made its position known in a statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday by the President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, following the recent media attacks against Governor Ikpeazu by the former Deputy Publicity Secretary of APC, Timi Frank, who accused the Governor of hobnobbing with President Buhari and APC by accepting to travel with the President  to the ongoing UK-Africa Investment Forum holding in London.
The statement reads:
“Members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (Worldwide) consider the sponsored attack against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu by one Timi Frank as part of an ongoing orchestrated attacks against Ndigbo and her leaders, and in due course will make public those behind the attacks who are merely hiding under the identities of willing but gullible tools like Timi Frank to orchestrate their ignominious mission.
“It is important to note that even while the kinsman of Timi Frank was President of Nigeria he attended foreign engagements with Governors from opposition parties including those of the APC without anyone making allegations of anti-party activities against such Governors. In one particular instance in 2014, the then President traveled with Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, who was and is still an APC leader, to an economic summit in London. We are also aware that this is not the first time President Buhari would be traveling with Governors from opposition parties including Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Willie Obiano of Anambra State, who are of PDP and APGA respectively. These trips are usually prescheduled and there was no way Governor Okezie Ikpeazu would have known that the Supreme Court would rule against Emeka Ihedioha before accepting the invitation of the Presidency. Moreover, when previous Supreme Court rulings favored the opposition PDP as was the case in Zamfara and Rivers States, nobody demonstrated.
“Obviously, Timi and his sponsors are hell bent on their mission of mischief, hence, his isolation of the presidential result from Abia while ignoring the fact that, as incumbent President, Buhari made inroads in 2019 across all the South East States (and not just Abia) compared to 2015 results. The result from Abia mirrors that of other South East States and if Timi was looking for who to accuse he should have started with his home state of Bayelsa where APC also made inroads and recently won a Governorship election even when the former President of Nigeria and other political heavy weights of PDP are from there. 
“Timi was certainly not seen at any polling unit in Bayelsa during the Presidential election even after allegedly swindling former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of millions of naira. He therefore lacks any moral right to apportion blames.
“It is unfortunate and laughable that Timi Frank still believes that a Governor can decide who to allocate votes to in a democratic election where hundreds of thousands of citizens turned up to express their electoral choice. If the self styled political activist had any active brain cell remaining he should have asked himself why Governor Ikpeazu did not also allocate same number of votes to himself during the Governorship election that he even polled less votes than the figures bandied by Timi for the 2019 Presidential election in a fierce three way contest that he won by landslide margins.
“Political observers would have noticed that even the recent PDP directed protests never held in Timi’s home state and that of his known sponsors whereas thousands of Abians marched in Umuahia to show solidarity with Emeka Ihedioha that Timi alleged was sold out by Governor ikpeazu. 
“Ohanaeze youths fully back the efforts of Governor Ikpeazu to rapidly develop Abia State through partnership and collaboration with critical stakeholders including the President and the Federal Government His drive to establish the Enyimba Economic City is unarguably the greatest trans-generational effort made to change the economic fortunes of post-civil war Igboland. We urge him to remain focused and not succumb to the irritable antics of cheap political jobbers and their sponsors who are determined to subject Ndigbo to perpetual economic underdevelopment. 
“This will be our last warning to Timi Frank and his sponsors as we are ready to expose them to the world if they dare disparage Governor Okezie Ikpeazu again. We have very damning and damaging dossier of Timi and his sponsors and will not hesitate to bring them to full public glare and knowledge if dared any further. 
“Let us once again urge Governor Ikpeazu to ignore the infantile rants of Timi Frank and regard it as the words of a professional blackmailer seeking to reinvent himself while doing the biddings of his masters who are determined to divide Ndigbo for their own selfish political gains”

Alleged Sexual Assault: Nigerian Institute Of Journalism Sacks Randy Lecturer

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism has sacked one of its lecturers, Mr Tene John, over alleged sexual assault on one of its students, Ms Anjola Ogunyemi.

His sack was announced by the NIJ in an official release signed by its Registrar and circulated on its official social media handles on Monday.

Lecturers in the journalism institute confirmed the authenticity of the release to our correspondent on the telephone.

It was gathered that Ogunyemi had accused Tene of attempting to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her in his office.

The student, who subsequently petitioned the institute and demanded probe, said she has arrived at the institute for a morning lecture when the incident happened.

Upon investigation, the institute relieved Tene of his job and warned other lecturers and students to desist from such an act.

The release read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to a post on the social media, by one of our students, Ms Anjola Ogunyemi in National Diploma One, alleging sexual harassment against one of our part-time lecturers, Mr Tene John.

“Ms Ogunyemi’s petition to the school on the alleged sexual harassment was received on December 19, 2019 – the day of our vacation. And the Provost called her on that same day to acknowledge the receipt of her petition, assuring her that the matter will be looked into appropriately.

“The institution, thereafter, set up a panel of three lecturers: two females and a male. The panel sat and took evidence from the two parties and witnesses concerned. On Friday, January 17, 2020 – the last day of its sitting, the accused and the accuser were made to confront each other at the panel.

“It was difficult for the panel to establish concretely a case of sexual harassment in its report because there were glaring contradictions in the testimonies of the two parties and witnesses.

“We wish to place on record that Ms Ogunyemu walked out on the panel and ran to the social media to tell her story on the day the panel’s final sitting.

“In view of our institution’s zero tolerance for improper conduct on the part of the staff and students, and in light of the interest the matter has generated, the following decisions have been taken: the lecturer concerned, Mr Tene, who has been on our faculty for over a decade has been relieved of his appointment, we thank him for his services and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“Ms Ogunyemi, who has just returned from a one-year suspension over indecent dressing and gross misconduct is advised to adhere strictly to her matriculation oath of channeling her grievances to the authorities of the institution.

“We wish to reiterate that our staff and students are governed by rules and regulations and it is important we comply accordingly.”

Nigerian Prophet, TB Joshua, The General overseer of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), in a church service stated emphatically to his congregation that offerings collected by most men of God from their members turn to be curses onto them instead of blessings.

He made this wild claim in response to questions on why the prophet doesn’t ask for offering on his regular church activities ”Living Water Service “.

He said:

“We cannot begin bothering distressed people, I mean the sick ones, the poor ones – asking for financial support. Although it is spiritual to collect offering, but the question remains: Who are we asking for support? The distressed, the sick, the poor?”

The prophet further broadened their knowledge on how to give when they have received their heart desires from God.

He said:

When you are healed and delivered, your ‘Thank you’ is a blessing from God. But when you are distressed, your ‘Thank you’ is distress. When you are sick, your ‘Thank you’ is sick.”

“You are your ‘Thank you’ because you cannot live above your word. That is why most gifts today are a curse, not a blessing. That is why you have to be very careful.”

* Insists voters elect leaders, not courts

An elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has declared unequivocally that it should be the turn of the Igbo to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023.

Yakasai based his declaration on the logic that other regions and zones in the country, except the Igbo of the South-east, had produced the country’s president.

Yakasai, in an interview that was monitored on Arise News, a sister broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspapers, however, reminded the Igbos that it is their duty to go out and convince other Nigerians to join them to realise their aspiration to produce the country’s president next time around.

He said: “Nigeria had three major blocks. Two of these three namely, the North and the West have had the opportunity of producing the President.

Therefore, Igbos have a good argument because out of the three siblings, two have already succeeded at producing the President but the Igbos have not.

“They (the Igbo) deserve the sympathy of all Nigerians for them to get it in 2023 or later. My opinion is that this is not a matter that one will lie down and think that it will come to him. Effort is needed. How do you go about it? This can only be done by persuasion to convince other Nigerians about the need for an Igbo to emerge the President of Nigeria.

“I for one – I am in support of it. I did it before in the era of NPN (National Party of Nigeria) when we had the arrangement that the next president after late President Shehu Shagari would come from the East. We would have settled this problem long ago if not for the military intervention.

“So, I spoke in support of Igbo presidency. I did not want to fix a date because I am not in position to do that. I said that the Igbo should go out and lobby other Nigerians and try to get their concern and support to produce the president in 2023 and where they are not able to do that in 2023 they will put a trajectory for them to produce the President next time.”

The elder statesman also commented on the recent controversial ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the Imo State governorship election that turned the table against the former Governor Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has been sworn in as the incumbent governor of the state.

He said: “I made my views known long ago when the President Muhammadu Buhari started the move to remove the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). I spoke then that the due process of the law must be followed in the attempt to remove the former Chief Justice. My concern that time was that removing the CJN without the due process of the law would create a situation where President Buhari will have a Supreme Court of his own making that is there to dance to the tune of his music. And what is happening now, whether you like it or not, is creating the feeling that that is what that is happening to the country.

“My opinion is that the constitution is supreme and laws made by the National Assembly should be subordinate to the provision of the constitution. The intention of the constitution is that voters should determine who should govern them. We should ensure that those voters should enjoy the blessings of their votes. What happened in Imo State did not reflect this reality, which is that Nigerians should be given the opportunity to decide who will govern them at every tier of government and not the courts. I don’t think what happened was a good commentary on the Nigerian judiciary.”
He advised Ihedioha to seek a judicial review of the Supreme Court judgment.

The elder statesman also stated that Nigeria should dump the presidential system of government in preference for French parliamentary system, whereby the president is elected by the whole country and a prime minister nominated by the parliament that has power to call for the removal of the president. He said that this would solve the cumbersome process of changing government in Nigeria.

Yakasai also commented on the recent declaration by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, that Ametokun, the regional security outfit put in place by the governors of the South-west’s states was illegal. He advised the South-west governors to follow the example of Kano State that won the case in court against the federal government when it established the Hisbah.

Yakasai also advised the traditional rulers to submit themselves under the authority of the state governments, emphasising that the traditional institutions were not recognised by the country’s constitution, which is the reason the state governors have the power to sack them.

Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, others warn of hunger by 2050

Former Heads of State, Generals Yakubu Gowon,  Abdulsalami Abubakar on Monday in Kaduna, advised the Federal Government to pay close attention to agriculture.

Also, former governors of Niger and Adamawa states, Babangida Aliyu and Murtala Nyako asked that Nigerians should take agriculture seriously.

They spoke at the 6th annual lecture of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna.

The lecture was instituted in honour of the late premier of the defunct Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Abubakar said the solution to food insecurity in the country was in mechanised farming.

The former Nigerian leader said, “We need to pay serious attention to agriculture and the agriculture value chain because there is nothing more important than food.”

Gowon, who was represented on the occasion by a former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahaman Danbazzau (retd.), said the nation had a number of challenges among which was how to cater for the nation’s population in terms of food security.

“We have quite a number of challenges and one of such challenges has to do with population growth. There is also the issue of the girl child; these are very key issues that the north needs to look at with a view to surmounting,” Gowon said.

He said there was the need to improve the nation’s food production by 70 per cent in view of the expected population projection in 2050.

Aliyu, who is the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Foundation, insisted that food requirements in the world would astronomically increase by about 70 per cent of the current level of demand.

Aliyu added that in order to avert an imminent hunger and global shortage of food in the next 30 years, Nigerian farmers “must key into new and more result-oriented agricultural productivity.”

Nyako, who was a guest speaker, stressed the need for Nigeria to continually evolve improvement strategies to stem hunger or be doomed by starvation.

He argued that for farmers in the region to increase their farm yields, they must adopt new breed technology to increase every crop, cereals, legumes, grains and tubers as well as animal husbandry.

“Our farmers must be educated beyond traditional approaches to farming and food production,” Nyako said.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in a recent submission stated that demons in Nigeria did not attend any school.

He made this hilarious comment while delivering a sermon.

He stated that he had an encounter with a pastor in a foreign country who wanted to follow him down to Nigeria to cast out demons.

He disclosed that he knew the pastor’s Christian lifestyle was somewhat shaky so he had to warn him beforehand in order to make him aware of what he’s signing up for.

It was then that Pastor Adeboye warned him that the demons in Nigeria did not go to school which implies that the demons won’t make things easy for him.

To make the sermon lively, he added that demons in foreign countries are quite considerate because they wear suits and all sort of modern clothes.

“Demons in Nigeria did not go to school. If you see them you will know here comes the original.

I have enough problem casting out the demons from my own people. I don’t want to add your own. Because if you come, I might have to cast demons out of you,” he said.
