Mexico Confirms 4th Coronavirus Case, All Linked To Italy

0
Mexico confirmed its fourth case of the new coronavirus on Saturday — all linked to recent travel to Italy — after a young woman tested positive for infection.

Health authorities said the 20-year-old from northern Coahuila state was carrying the virus without showing symptoms.

She had recently travelled to Milan and was now under isolation in her home, according to the state government.

Another eight people are being tested for suspected infection, authorities said.

The other three confirmed cases — two men in Mexico City and one man in northern Sinaloa state — are all believed to have visited northern Italy, authorities said Friday.

Italy has emerged as one of the global hotspots of the COVID-19 outbreak with more than 1,100 cases in cities across the country’s north.

The virus has infected around 87,000 people and killed nearly 3,000 since it first emerged in central China late last year.

ABN TV earlier reported that Mexico’s health ministry said the country has confirmed three cases of the coronavirus, becoming the second Latin American nation reached by the global outbreak.

The three men — two in Mexico City and one in the northern state of Sinaloa — are all believed to have visited northern Italy, the epicentre of the virus in Europe.

Probably all three were infected from the same source. All three are imported cases,” Jose Luis Alomia, general director of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, said at a press conference Friday.

Senior health ministry official Hugo Lopez-Gatell told a separate news conference that one of the men, a 35-year-old in the capital, “has a mild, mild illness” with symptoms “similar to that of a cold”.

“He is a young individual and so he is at very low risk,” he said.

BREAKING: Nigerian Professor, Ezeibe ‘Discovers’ Cure For Coronavirus And Lassa Fever

0

A Nigerian Professor, Maduike Ezeibe has announced that he has discovered a possible cure for the dreaded coronavirus and lassa fever.

The Professor of Virology at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) who once claimed to have discovered the therapy for the cure of HIV/AIDS, expressed confidence that the therapy which according to him, had already proved reliable in the “treatment of HIV/AIDS,” would make coronavirus a thing of the past.

Ezeibe who gave the chemical equation of the therapy as (AI4(SiO4)3+3Mg2SiO4-2AI2Mg3(SiO4)3) and also disclosed that “it’s a mechanism for curing Covid -19 and Lassa fever”, urged countries affected by the deadly virus to adopt his therapy for clinical trials on patients.

He said: “Electrostatic attraction would make electrically charged medicines mop pathogens which have opposite charges, is a known scientific fact and that viruses and abnormal (infected /tumor) cells are electrically charged is now known.

”Covid-19 virus and Lassa fever virus (DNA viruses) are negatively charged . Small sizes of viruses enable them infect cells, inaccessible to big molecules. So, existing antiviral medicines need immunity to complement their effects but some viruses cause immune deficiency.

“As a silicate, AMS also normalises immunity and as a stabilizing agent it enhances efficacy of antimicrobials to achieve effective treatment secondary infections.

“Effective treatment of secondary infections would cure any viral /abnormal cell diseases including Covid -19 and Lassa fever “

Recall that the Federal Government recently announced a N36m cash prize for any Nigerian that finds the cure for coronavirus and Lassa fever.

Enugu Doctors Embark On Strike Amid Coronavirus Panic

0

Amidst panic over the detection of coronavirus in the country, resident doctors of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital on Saturday embarked on a five-day warning strike to press home their demand for an enhanced pay package.

Many residents of Enugu have criticized the timing of the strike at this time of national emergency.

The leadership of the resident doctors declined to respond to questions on the coronavirus epidemic.

But president of the Association of Resident Doctors, ARD ESUT-TH, Dr. Chima Edoga, who spoke on the strike appealed to patients to understand their plight which he said they have managed for over four years.

Edoga stated that it is the wish of the doctors to make the hospital a center of excellence, but noted that it is only when manpower is retained that the hospital could achieve the desired dream.

He said that the Resident Doctors deliberated extensively on their work conditions and patient care before arriving at the difficult decision

According to them, there is a shortage of doctors in ESUT-TH as a result of continual mass exodus of doctors, despite genuine efforts made by the State Government and the Management of ESUT-TH to replace them.

The ARD ESUT- TH noted that there has been over-burdening of doctors who chose to remain and care for the people, with some doctors having to take daily call duties for months, at the expense of their own health, personal and family lives.

They said that as a result there is a drop in the quality of care given to the patients.

The doctors said their reasons for embarking on the warning strike include “Perennial poor salary and emoluments vis-à-vis non-implementation of the Corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) with consequential minimum wage adjustments for doctors working in ESUT-TH Parklane as is obtainable in all Federal Tertiary Health Institutions (FTHIs) and many State Tertiary Health Institutions (STHIs).

“STHIs in neighbouring states like Anambra (COOUTH) and Imo (IMSUTH) have made giant strides in this regard. The recent increase in our salaries by the state government, though well appreciated, will not suffice.”

Edoga said there was failure of all diplomatic channels and negotiations with the Enugu State Government to address the challenges and ensure continuous delivery of standard health care services to its citizenry.

“Consequently, ARD ESUT-TH Parklane, in a unanimous decision, resolved to embark on a 5-day warning strike, starting on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 8am to resume work on Thursday, March 5, 2020 by 8am, unless the State Government immediately implements the Corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) with consequential minimum wage adjustments for doctors working in ESUT-TH Parklane as is obtainable in all Federal Tertiary Health Institutions (FTHIs) and many State Tertiary Health Institutions (STHIs) in Nigeria,” Edoga said.

He disclosed that the Congress of ARD ESUT-TH Parklane will re-convene after the warning strike, give notice of and proceed on an indefinite industrial action if the Government does to meet their demand.

BREAKING: Abia APC disowns B.B Apugo, calls him a gargantuan liar

0

The Abia State chapter of APC has distanced itself from a statement credited to a chieftain of the party, Prince Benjamin Apugo in which he said that Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia state purchased nomination form for all APC governorship candidates that contested election in 2019.

The party in a statement signed by the publicity secretary, Comrade Benedict Godson berated the elder statesman over the comment, maintaining that it is a lie and an attempt to impugn on the character of the seven governorship aspirants and Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah who later flied the Party’s flag.

“In a democracy, everyone is free to hold and express his opinion, but when such opinion is not consistent with the truth, it must be made to take its perfect position as a fallacy.

“Therefore, Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to state that the statement credited one of our leaders, Prince Benjamin Apugo by Daily Sun publication on 27/02/2020 where he was quoted to have said that Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu bought the forms for all our seven aspirants in the 2019 election is a huge fallacy.

“With all due respect to Prince Apugo, he got his allegation wrong and there is no element of truth in that particular unfortunate statement that was credited to him. In fact his statement is a gargantuan lie and an act of sabotage to the party” he said.

The party also vowed that it cannot watch while the party is being torn apart by one man irrespective of his position in the society

We as a party cannot watch one man no matter his position or capacity, stand and destroy the image of seven responsible men who in their different capacities represent a lot for their people, the party, Abians and even in Nigeria as a nation.

“Apugo making statement like “it was a clear game that Ikpeazu played with the seven APC governorship aspirants” is an attempt to assassinate the images of some of those great men who came together to contest in our party’s primary.

“Abia APC as it stands cannot afford to allow statements like the one credited to Prince Apugo to go without setting the records straight. Our society is a society that respect elders. We respect elders because we assume that every words of their mouth ought to be the truth.

“When an elder of Apugo’s capacity goes about making reckless and unguided statements like this one now, we have no option than to call him to order to avoid using his position as an elder to destroy other persons who also wish to be elder.

“We therefore which to plead with all our seven governorship aspirants to please forgive Prince Apugo on this his fallacious statement, as the party is never and can never be in agreement with such a destructive and unguided statement that’s capable of destroying our party.

“The seven gentlemen that bought the form of our great party all had intentions of contributing to the growth and development Abia State. It’s wrong and absolutely unacceptable for anyone to cast aspersions on them for simply doing all they can to save Abia State.

“Our stand is no. Prince BB Apugo, you got this one terribly wrong and we don’t agree with you because this particular statement is a monumental lie and we reject it in its entirety” the statement concluded.
