One killed in a fatal auto crash in Umuahia (Photos+Video)

At least one person has been confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred at Ahiaeke, opposite the light of the word restoration ministry on Wednesday in Umuahia, Abia state.

ABN TV gathered that a passenger bus had lost control around the popular Ikot-Ekpene road and rammed through bystanders, killing a middle-aged girl.

The driver and the victim were rushed to the hospital by a team of policemen where the victim was confirmed dead.

The bus had the driver as lone occupier.

Two arrested in Akwa Ibom for human trafficking

Two suspects have been arrested by the Uyo Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for alleged human trafficking.

Zonal commander of the agency, Mr Nduka Nwanwenne ina press release issued to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday, mentioned Okokon Essien Bassey and Ofonime Essien Bassey as alleged culprits, adding that they were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday.

He stated that the two suspects had approached one Emmanuel Monday and his wife who is pregnant and a mother of two children to buy the unborn baby for N500,000.

He said officials of the agency who were informed of the offer advised the couple to agree to the terms of the suspects.

Accordingly, the victims were said to have requested for N10,000 from the suspects as a form of commitment and a sign of seriousness.

It was gathered that on receipt of the money, the woman and her two children were handed over to the suspects.

The suspects were said to have taken the woman and her children to Port Harcourt on a motorcycle but were trailed by operatives of the agency who arrested the suspects.

However, one of the suspects was said to have escaped but the agency explained that a search is on to find him, adding that the arrested suspects have made useful statements and would be charged to court.

“The Uyo Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has apprehended two suspects for human trafficking in an early hour operation this morning, the two suspects, namely Okokon Essien Bassey, ‘M’, 33 years old and Ofonime Essien Bassey, ‘F’, 40 years old were apprehended.

“The suspects had on several occasion approached one Emmanuel Monday and his wife who is a mother of two kids and presently pregnant and requested for the purchase of the unborn baby for the sum of five hundred thousand nairas (N500,000).

“On receiving the intelligence, NAPTIP operatives requested the victims to play along with the suspects.

“In the course of several meetings, the victims demanded the sum of N10,000 from the suspects to show their seriousness in what they were being asked to do. Upon the payment of the N10,000 to the victims the pregnant woman, along with their two kids were handed over to the suspects,” the statement reads.

Three doctors arraigned over death of three-month-old baby in Abuja

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, on Tuesday in Abuja, arraigned three medical doctors for their alleged roles in the death of three-month-old Peace Oluwole.

The accused medical practitioners, Dr Iyoha Joseph, Dr Obafemi Kuye and Dr Mukaila Oyewunmi Oladipo, were accused of conducting themselves unprofessionally by administering unnecessary drugs, delaying necessary actions and exposing the baby’s system to unnecessary drugs, which resulted in his death.

The doctors were presented before a panel headed by the chairman of the tribunal, Prof. Abba Hassan.

The baby was admitted to the R. Jolad Hospital in Gbagada, Lagos State, in March 2013, where the three doctors work. He was returned after he was discharged in distress before his death.

The charge sheet read by the Registrar of the Council, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, said the three doctors acted infamously contrary to the rules of the code of medical ethics of Nigeria, 2008 edition, and punishable under the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap M8 Laws of the Federation on Nigeria 2004 as amended.

Dr Iyoha Joseph was accused of discharging the baby prematurely on March 11, 2013, when he did not observe and document clear indications that the baby had recovered from the ailment for which he was admitted, thus causing his death. He was also accused of claiming to be a specialist paediatrician when he did not have any additional qualification registered by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Dr Obafemi Kuye was accused of seeing the baby but failed to take an adequate history of the baby or attend to him.

Dr Mukaila Oyewunmi Oladipo was accused of failing to take remedial measures to relieve the patient of obvious respiratory distress when he was re-presented at the hospital after being discharged earlier, and delaying other procedures for more than 30 minutes which eventually contributed to the baby’s death

The three accused doctors pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charges preferred against them.

The hearing continues tomorrow.

Bobrisky cries out after his driver allegedly absconded with his car and N596k

Bobrisky has cried out on social media after his driver allegedly absconded with his Mercedes Benz and N600k.

The cross-dresser who recounted forgiving his driver on several occasions after being caught red-handed stealing from him said he absconded with the car which he instructed him to take in for repair.

Bobrisky further disclosed that his driver whose phone lines have been switched off since he left his house with the car, has been reported to the police.

He wrote;

Dis dude was my former driver…. He has stolen from me severally but he always beg and I do let it slide. At some point, I sent him away just to avoid stress for myself. Last months he called me to beg again that he want to come back and work that he has change. He said his boss sent him away where he was working at d moment and he is so broke that he doesn’t have money to feed. Because my heart is so clean towards human I allow him come back again .

Now he has stolen from me again. Dis time is even worst . I gave him my Benz cla 300 to drop at Benz office in IKATE lekki to fix a sound am hearing on d right leg on 9th of February 2020. When he was going I gave him 200,000 to hold Incase there is anything we are changing in d car and d workshop fee since I was traveling.

That very day I was traveling I sent 396,000 to his account to replace some stuffs in my house too. Up till now I didn’t see my car, or money. He has been running everywhere. Corpses exhumed as ‘herdsmen’ attacks in Delta community

No fewer than nine bodies have been exhumed across communities in Uwheru kingdom, Ughelli North council of Delta State following suspected herdsmen attacks last Thursday and Friday.

The Nation learned that the bodies were buried in shallow graves, three of which discovered Sunday evening.

Security agencies had demanded to see the bodies of those alleged to have been slaughtered in the renewed attacks on five communities.

It was gathered that a team of security operatives and members of the community discovered more shallow graves on Monday while searching for bodies of victims allegedly killed by the herdsmen.

The bodies were said to have been taken to the Police Area Command Ughelli in three trucks at about 7:30 pm on Monday before they were moved to the morgue at the Central Hospital, Ughelli, for autopsy.

The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare, who hails from the area, confirmed the development.

He claimed two more bodies were yet to be found.

“Six bodies were exhumed today under the supervision of soldiers and policemen. The six bodies are now being deposited at the mortuary at Ughelli. Gory pictures will follow later.

“Total number so far is nine. Two more bodies are yet to be found. The search continues tomorrow (Tuesday),” the professor stated in a phone conversation, late Monday.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa told The Nation, “Yes, corpses were exhumed by the community people and they brought them to the police station. That is the information I got. We are now going to find out how it all happened.

“Who buried them, who exhumed them, when were they buried, circumstances that led to the deaths, by whom and who must have buried them without reporting the matter. We are investigating because we cannot just see things like this and keep quiet. A lot of questions must be asked,” he said.
