Osinbajo Calls For Review Of Curricular, Says Education Should Be For Employability

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called for the review of Nigeria’s higher education curriculum to focus more on technology and creativity, stating that education today must be for employ-ability, not just for its own sake.

He stated this on Friday at the fifth Convocation Lecture of the Federal University, Duste, Jigawa State.

Professor Osinbajo, in a lecture titled “Facing the New Decade,” said Nigeria’s curricula must be versatile and dynamic.

According to him, “the focus must be on innovation, critical thinking, interdisciplinary thinking, design thinking, synergizing and collaboration with others across the world to solve problems.

“The era of cramming teacher’s notes and regurgitating for high grades is over. The graduate of the future is a problem solver, a thinker, an entrepreneur.

“Our educators, policymakers, schools, universities must now adapt their curricula, policies, and projects to improve the skills that enable the graduate to nimbly and constantly respond to the ever-changing face of the economy and the workplace.

He urged the students to see the exciting future ahead and know that the opportunities are limitless.

“There is no question that an exciting future lies ahead, there are breakthroughs in radical technologies, capable of disrupting whole industries, and perhaps even our very conception of work itself.

“For higher institutions who are getting graduates ready for the world of work, for the graduates and near graduates who are here today, what does the disruption of the workforce by emerging technologies signify for both livelihoods and employment?”

Professor Osinbajo highlighted areas that require improved skills training to increase access to opportunities.

“So today the most successful businesses are those adding value, even our culture can become a great wealth creator but only if we add value.”

Stop Using Saliva As Sex Lubricant – Medical Expert Warns

Lubrication, especially vaginal lubrication is an important part of sexual arousal. It readies the vagina for penetration and reduces any accompanying friction or irritation. In this regard, a medical expert has warned against the practice of using saliva as a lubricant during sex.

Dr Kolade Johnson who works in a private hospital told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin that if anyone with a mouth sore use saliva as a lubricant, the partner would be exposed to genital herpes.

He said other diseases that could arise from using saliva as sex lubricant include Human Papilo Virus (HPV), syphilis, chlamydia and even gonorrhoea among others.

The medical expert said it could be worse for women as saliva could upset the vagina environment to cause vaginal or yeast infections.

“Saliva cannot even be as slippery as expected which can easily cause tear because it gets dried up easily. Also, if the person has bad breath it can cause horrible smelling discharge.”

The doctor advises that couples should engage in pre-intimacy before sex as this helps to create lubrication in the vagina. However, in an instance where pre-intimacy doesn’t achieve the desired result, Dr Johnson proffers that one should get a lubricant from a registered pharmacy.

“So, the best thing is to engage in pre-intimacy to get wet before the real action. But if that is not attainable, get a lubricant in registered pharmacies and not popular chemists around or people hawking drugs”

Artificial lubricants reduce vaginal dryness. Lubes are available in many different textures, flavours, and materials to suit a person’s needs and preferences.

Lubes come in a variety of bases; water, silicone and oil.

Water:
Water-based lubricants containing glycerin are popular. However, glycerin-free options may be more suitable for people who get frequent yeast infections.

Silicone:
Silicone-based lubricants last longer than water-based lubricants, making them a good option for people with severe vaginal dryness or a history of pain during sex. They are not safe to use with silicone intimacy gadgets, though, and they can be greasy.

Oil:
Oil-based lubricants include many readily available products, such as kitchen oils. They are usually edible and are safe for the vagina, but they can be messy. Synthetic oil-based lubricants, such as mineral oil and petroleum jelly, can work well but may also irritate the vulva.

Former Emir of Gwandu, Major Mustapha Jokolo (rtd), has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari recognises his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari as “deputy president.”

Gwandu was reacting to the face-off between the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babangana Monguno and Kyari over the coordination of the country’s security.

He urged Buhari to sack both Monguno and Kyari for being “greedy and selfish” in the discharge of their duties.

The former Aide-De-Camp to Buhari during the President’s military regime stated while featuring on a radio programme in Kaduna.

Jokolo reminded both Kyari and Monguno that Nigeria was greater than any individual, hence they should remember that all was watching.

He said: “The misunderstanding between them was borne out of greed, selfishness, if not, these two are brothers. They are all Muslims and from the same tribe. President Buhari had brought them to assist him in different roles, why then should there be any conflict of roles?

“Truly, General Monguno had complained, but he did not refer his complaints to the right people. He should have written directly to President Buhari, on how he felt about his Chief of Staff.

This is because Buhari tends to recognize his Chief of Staff as his ‘Deputy President. “Buhari had said everything should be done through the Chief of Staff, this implies that Buhari has given him limitless power and he can do anything. But this is a misnomer.”

Recall that a circular from the office of the NSA had a few days ago alleged that Kyari had hijacked the coordination of security leadership in Nigeria.In the circular, Monguno had alleged that Buhari’s Chief of Staff had sidelined him in making strategic decisions on national security operations.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111 over a recent comment on the consequences of bad leadership especially in the North where rate of poverty is high and out of school children on the increase.

OYC also added that insurgency in the North is a direct consequence of sins committed against the Igbo during the Biafra war in which about 2000 people, including women and children were killed.

In a statement signed by the President General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike OYC insists that until the North repents and support Nigerian President of Igbo origin in 2023 as a medium to ask God for forgiveness, the insurgency will continue to serve a punishment in North.

While alleging that northern leaders are benefitting from the insurgency in the region, OYC insists that God has given Igbos the solutions to heal the North and end her suffering and poverty.

It also faulted the proposed agency for welfare of repented Boko Haram members which bill is already before the National Assembly, saying it is a move to legalized INSURGENCY and create opportunities to waste resources on Boko haram sect.

Seven private schools in Aba risk a total closure if… — Ikpeazu (See List)

The Abia State government has directed seven private schools in Aba to immediately visit the committee on Re-validation of private schools in Ministry of Education Umuahia, for proper documentation effective from the date of this announcement.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to Abia State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem made available to ABN TV, the affected schools will be shut down if this instruction is not heeded to.
The affected schools are
1. Divine Base Academy, 68 Adindu road
2. 1st Class International School, 98 Adindu Road
3. God’s Miracle Academy, 10 Nkwoha street
4. God’s Compliment Academy, 5 Ohiara off Nkwoha street

The state government has recently started a total overhaul in the primary education with a focus on the activities of private school owners who operate in environments not conducive enough for academic activities.
