Lockdown Time May Miraculously Assist Families In Search Of Fruit Of Womb — Nigerian Man

A husband and father, Mr. Patrick Ufere has said the period of restriction of movements across the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) may miraculously be the answered prayer many families who are in search of fruit of the womb are looking for.

He also said it has provided millions of families the opportunity to develop a strong bond.

In a chat with ABN TV on Thursday, Mr. Ufere a staff of Abia State Polytechnic emphasised that due to tight work and academic schedules, parents, children and other family members do not enjoy quality time with each other at home.

According to him, apart from assisting his wife with domestic chores, the lockdown period has drawn him more closer to his children, enabling him to understand their character and capabilities, their strengths and weaknesses.

Mr. Ufere said what appeared like a pandemic has now turned out to be a blessing in disguise for families to achieve peace and unity.

He appealed to Nigerians to adhere to the instruction of government on the restriction of movements especially since the cure for COVID-19 is not yet known.

COVID-19: Two COVID-19 Patients Discharged, 43 Samples Await Test Results In Kwara

Two coronavirus patients undergoing treatment at the Kwara State Isolation Centre have been discharged.

Kwara State Government said, on Wednesday, that discharged two of its four COVID-19 patients after they have both twice tested negative.

They were discharged alongside five members of their families who were also at the state’s isolation centre and have equally twice tested negative, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said in a statement.

The governor said, “I’m glad to announce to you that we are discharging a total of seven persons from our isolation facility.

“Among these are our first two (index) cases (a male and a female) who have twice tested negative for COVID-19.

“The remaining five are members of their families who were on quarantine and have also twice tested negative to the virus.

“With the exit of the seven persons, we have 11 persons left in the facility. Two of these 11 are COVID-19 patients while the remaining nine are people with varying contacts with them.

“Our two remaining patients are in the best spirit and are doing pretty good. We wish them a quick recovery.”

The statement added, “As of Thursday morning, Kwara has two cases while test results are awaited for 43 samples. Kwara has run a total of 85 tests – out of which four returned as positive.”

Test Results Of 90 People Showing COVID-19 Symptoms In Abuja Revealed

The results of ninety (90) people who showed symptoms of Coronavirus 9COVID-19) were released by the Federal Capital Territory Administration on Thursday.

According to FCTA in a post on their Twitter account noted that people that were tested for COVID-19 were confirmed negative.

A further report revealed that individuals tested were from the Mpape community of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

FCTA added that everyone with a history of cough, fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in breathing in various communities of Abuja, will be screened.

The post reads: “During community active case search, department of public health detected and tested the persons whose test came back as negative.”

“As FCTA continues Community Active Case Search in various communities of Abuja, results of 90 clients from Mpape community testing, have all returned negative to COVID-19.”

“This is to detect anyone with COVID-19 and get them treated promptly to break the chain of transmission in FCT.”

Why Nigeria didn’t benefit from IMF’s debt relief – Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, has said Nigeria did not benefit from the recent debt relief by the International Monetary Fund because the country is not indebted to the IMF.

Ahmed, in a tweet on Thursday, said, “It is true Nigeria is not a beneficiary of recent IMF debt relief for 25 countries.

“As stated in the IMF Executive Board statement, the relief ‘provides grants to our poorest and most vulnerable members to cover their IMF debt obligations for an initial phase over the next six months’.

“Since Nigeria is not indebted to the IMF, there is no outstanding debt obligation to be forgiven.

“Nigeria’s application for new IMF financing is under consideration and receiving attention.”

According to the minister, the new application is for financing under the Rapid Financing Initiative.

“Nigeria is entitled to access up to 100 per cent of its quota under the Rapid Financing Initiative. Our current financial position at the IMF is public information on the International Monetary Fund website,” she added.

The IMF had on Monday announced the approval of immediate debt service relief to 25 of the IMF’s member countries under the IMF’s revamped Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust as part of its response to help address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beneficiary countries were Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, D.R., The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Tajikistan, Togo, and Yemen.

Lockdown: Stay Clear Of Abia Borders, Ikpeazu Warns Residents

Following the restriction of movements order by Abia state government, the state governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has again called on citizens and residents of the State to ensure total compliance.

The Governor in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli on Wednesday, made available to ABN TV, warned that defaulters risk arrest and prosecution.

He emphasised that only those on essential duty which include, properly identified food items haulages, petroleum product tankers, medical and pharmaceutical products, journalists and communication company staff and security personnel on duty are allowed movements.

“Following the renewed directive of the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (Ph.D.) to the Ministry of Homeland Security to ensure total lockdown of all entry and exit points into Abia State, the Ministry of Homeland Security hereby advises all Abians, motorists and pedestrians to stay clear of all entry and exit boundary points, henceforth, in total compliance with the Executive Order of the Governor.

“The Ministry of Homeland Security has deployed its personnel to man all the borders and will arrest and handover any defaulter of such a directive for immediate prosecution.

“Citizens are therefore advised to stay clear of the borders and abide by the lockdown directive as even the Federal Government of Nigeria is on the same page with respective states on the lockdown.

“The release, therefore, allows only those on exemption and essential duty which include, properly identified food items haulages, petroleum product tankers, medical and pharmaceutical products, journalists and communication company staff, and security personnel on duty.

“Let us help us to sustain Abia State that is free of Corona Virus” the statement read.

Gunmen Kidnap 3 Nursing Mothers In Kaduna

Three nursing mothers have been reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Karaukarau village, Giwa Local government area of Kaduna State,

A source from the village, Malam Sani Bakali told our Correspondent that, the heavily armed bandits had earlier picked 13 women, were challenged and repelled by the villagers.

Bakali explained that the hoodlums stormed the village on Tuesday afternoon during a wedding ceremony, to kidnap the victims.

According to him, ‘You know the curfew imposed as a result of the coronavirus had not been easy for the bandits as they now have short supplies of food. The hoodlums now attack wedding venues and gatherings.

“So, on Tuesday, there was a wedding in our village and the hoodlums stormed the venue and took 13 women.”

He disclosed that, when the villagers heard of it, they mobilised and confronted the bandits, “as a result of that, 10 women were rescued, while three nursing mothers were abducted.

As at the time of filing this report, the three women are still under captivity.

According to Bakali, they have reported the attack to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Giwa local government.

However, when contacted, the Kaduna Police Command’s PPRO, ASP Mohammed Jalige said, he was yet to be briefed about the incident.

Ken Saro-Wiwa’s Son Dies Of COVID-19 In London

Menegian, one of the children of late Ogoni environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, has died of Coronavirus at a London hospital.

Noo, sister to the deceased, in a social media post, made the announcement.

She said said “We said goodbye to my brother, Gian, on Monday.

“He had COVID-19 combined with underlying health conditions.

“Gian was the smartest and most talented out of all of us: a champion sprinter at school, a poet, an artist, budding engineer, a self-taught guitarist and pianist. But mental health issues limited his life from age 16 onwards.

I took this photo of him a few months ago before he was hospitalised.

“A kind and beautiful soul, always wanting the best for his family, always praying for our future success while being eternally optimistic about his own. And, of course, always loved his music. He leaves a wonderful son, Louis.”

Menegian was 50 at the time of his death.
