Chioma Rowland, the fiancee of Nigerian superstar singer, David Adeleke aka Davido, has won her battle with the dreaded COVID-19.

Excited Davido broke the good news on Sunday night, saying that she has tested negative twice.

Davido’s Fiancee, Chioma Tests Negative For COVID-19

Davido had announced on March 27th that Chioma who had recently returned from the United Kingdom had tested positive for the virus. He also disclosed further that he and their son, David Jnr were negative.

Announcing Chioma’s recovery, Davido wrote:

[UPDATE] Police Arrests 5 Over Naval Officer’s Death

The Zone 6 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police in Calabar has arrested the suspected killers of Naval Sub Lt. David Igbashal.

Igbashal was abducted on Feb. 22 while on his way from Calabar to Makurdi, Benue state for his wedding arrangements.

The arrest is contained in a release signed by the Public Relations Officer of Zone 6, Calabar, DSP Nelson Okpabi on Sunday.

He stated that the arrest was made on April 18 and was led by Supt. Emmanuel Ukwenya of the Zonal Anti-Corruption/X-Squad set up by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed.

Okpabi said that the squad recovered the remains of the slained Sub Lt. at Omuogodu Akpu in Ngbo Local Government Area of Ebonyi, a warring Community with neighbouring Agila village in Benue.

“The team which acted on credible information arrested five suspects in connection with the crime and they confessed to committing the heinous crime.

“They also took the detectives to the site where the murdered officer was buried.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is in top gear and the suspects would be arraigned accordingly.

“The AIG in-charge of Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar, is using this opportunity to condole with the Nigerian Navy for the loss of the young officer; while calling on members of the public to obey government/NCDC directives and stay safe.

“He also assured them of adequate security in this trying times and urged them to report suspected person(s)/incidents to the police without hesitation,” Okpabi said.

Hon. Nkole Mourns Victim of Ohafia Shooting, Tasks Police On Professionalism

The member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Hon. Uko Nkole has commiserated with the family of Friday Stanley Ota who lost his life during a sporadic shooting by alleged drunk policemen on Friday at Ebem Ohafia.

He also sympathised with the family of Miracle Olugu who is lying critically ill in the hospital after sustaining a gunshot injury caused by the anti-riot police squad drafted to quell the protest arising from the killing of Friday Stanley Ota.

In a release on Sunday, the federal lawmaker while stating that he received the news with sadness urged the families of the victims and all those within the Ohafia vicinity and Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency as a whole to take heart.

“I also wish to appeal to all those understandably aggrieved by this unfortunate incident to please remain law-abiding, not to take laws into their own hands and please cease all acts capable of threatening the peace in the area.

“I call on the Inspector General Of Police to ensure that the errant officers is brought to justice while urging all Security Agencies to please impress on their officials the need to ensure proper relations with the civil populace and abide by firearms handling regulations.

“May I also commiserate with our dear Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the people of Abia State who are forced to deal with loss of lives to security agencies even when there is no single case of Coronavirus in Abia State and pray God to continue to grant him the wisdom to navigate the State these difficult times,” he said.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to choose his next Chief of Staff from among the Igbo following the death of Abba Kyari, his former Chief of Staff.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council says this will engender sense of belonging and make up for the supreme sacrifice made by late Chuba Okadigbo in ensuring that Muhammadu Buhari emerges president, which later materialised in the year 2015.

In a release signed by the President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the Secretary-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, OYC insists that there are close allies of the President who have the capacity to occupy the position of Chief of Staff to the president.

The group said the appointment of Igbo Chief of Staff will heal the nation and end secessionist movement in the South East region.

We’ve Spent Over N1bn Funds Over COVID-19, Says Gov. Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki holds a love briefing on COVID-19 by the State Response Team in Benin on April 19, 2020.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State says the state government has spent over N1billion to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking in Benin during a live briefing on the virus by the State Response Team on Sunday, Governor Obaseki reiterated his administration’s commitment in ending the scourge of the virus in the state.

“The government of Edo State is leading this battle from the front. We have already spent over N1billion of our limited resources so far on this fight.

“We have constituted the Edo State Fund-Raising Committee which is made up of our sons and daughters who are captains of industries, religious leaders, traditional rulers to help us galvanise efforts at mobilizing resources to beef up the state government’s response to this pandemic,” he said.

According to him, the decision of the state government to review the partial lockdown imposed on residents was borne after reviewing the COVID-19 tests carried out on suspects.

While calling on residents of the state to support his administration’s efforts in fighting the virus, the governor appealed for donations by spirited individuals and groups.

COVID-19: Gov. Diri Imposes Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew In Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has imposed a five-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state as part of measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement signed by Freston Akpor, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Information and Orientation, who is also a member of the Bayelsa Task Force on COVID-19, the 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. curfew begins on Sunday (April 19).

Akpor said the curfew was to reinforce the ban on the social gathering, particularly gatherings at night clubs, eateries, and nocturnal worship centers.

He urged security personnel to ensure compliance by the state residents.

We Can’t Flog Those Who Came To Pay Last Respects To Abba Kyari – Presidency

The Presidency on Saturday said there was nothing it could do to bar the crowd who thronged the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja to pay their last respects to the late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Independent, Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity said they never invited the public to the funeral and couldn’t have invited soldiers to flog those who have come to pay their last respect to deceased.

He added that in their bid to ensure crowd control and social distancing, the burial was delayed and they had to proceed as more people kept trooping to the cemetery.

“Was there any invitation for the public to come for the burial? Go back to my Twitter handle and read what I posted. From 10am, when we picked up the body at the airport, we sent a message out that the funeral will be private and that the public should please go and pray for Abba Kyari”.

“We also said no condolence visits to the President and family. What can we do? Are we going to invite soldiers to flog people who came to pay their last respect to the man?”

“We didn’t invite people. We were trying to move people back and observe social distancing and it was delaying the funeral. We just have to do it because people are not ready to leave. What are we going to do?” he asked.

Police Inspector Extorts N120K From Woman Over Violation Of Lockdown In Delta

A police officer has been accused of allegedly forcefully collecting N120,000 from a woman suspected to have violated the COVID-19 lockdown order in the Delta State.

The Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa had imposed a total lockdown across the state since April 1 amid four recorded positive cases of COVID-19 including one fatality.

Since the lockdown started, too, there have been cases of extortion, brutality and killing of innocent citizens of the state levelled against security forces, especially the Nigeria Police who were largely empowered to enforce the lockdown.

It was gathered that the erring police Inspector, simply identified as Inspector Okosun, is attached to the Quick Response Unit of the Delta State Police Command.

He allegedly extorted N120,000 from one Mrs Nwabuabo Obiajulu on Friday, April 17 at about 12noon at Asagba Police Station near Ogwashi-Uku in Delta.

Mrs Obiajulu told our correspondent that she had sent her son, Utulu Chukwuweiki, with her ash colour Lexus Ex300
with registration, number ABJ306JY to buy premium motor spirit (petrol) from a filling station to power their generating set.

Chukwuweiki was on his way to deliver the errand when a team of the police patrol team, led by Mr Okosun in a blue Toyota Hilux and a Range Rover, blocked him at NEPA junction.

Unsure of the identity of his assailants, whom she said were not in uniform, the young man manoeuvred his way out of the junction while the occupants of the Hilux and the Rang Rover gave him a hot chase.

Mrs Obiajulu further narrated that while being pursued, her son speedily drove into safety at Ogwa Spot at Ikeleke Quarters in Ogwashi-Uku.
