BREAKING: Six COVID-19 Patients Discharge In Lagos

The Lagos state government has discharged six-COVID-19 patients who have tested negative twice for the virus.

The state ministry of health announced this in a tweet on Saturday night.

“Six more #COVID19 Lagos patients; 3 females & 3 males were today discharged from the @LUTHofficial Isolation facility to reunite with the society.

The number of patients successfully managed and discharged in Lagos now 123,” the tweet read.

The death of an economic icon, Professor Ibrahim Ayagi; professor of physiology, professor Aliyu Abdullahi Umar Dikko; the regional director of First Bank in Kano, Abdullahi Lawal; former managing director (MD) of the defunct Continental Merchant Bank; and Mallam Musa Ahmad Tijjani, former editor-in-chief of the newspapers Leadership Sunday and Triumph, as well as four other famous figures died from a brief illness which is not necessarily linked to the deadly pandemic.

It was concluded that quite a few suspects that prominent figures, who have just died, may have succumbed to the strange disease as there was no evidence that they had been tested for coronavirus since the test centre. Covid-19 in Kano were closed without a definite date for the resumption of the test in the most populous state of Nigeria.

Their demise, according to PRNigeria, occurred within 24 hours.

They all died between Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, 2020. Other prominent figures include Alh. Adam Iliyasu Dal, former chairman of the Kano State Civil Service Commission; Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Dr Musa Umar Gwarzo; and Ustaz Dahiru Rabiu, former grand khadi of Kano State. The late Professor Ayagi was Commissioner of State Economic Development from 1975 to 1978, as was also a former Director-General of the Kano Foundation from 1987 to 1990. Ayagi, who is also the owner of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo College in Kano died on Saturday after a prolonged illness at the age of 80.

Professor Aliyu Umar Dikko was a former assistant vice chancellor (DVC) at Bayero Kano University (BUK). He participated in the opening of three faculties of basic medicine / medical science at Bayero University, Kaduna State University and Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

As for Lawal, PRNigeria concluded that the regional director of First Bank in Kano has died from a suspected COVID-19 case. Family sources immediately said that the late banker fell ill, he was first admitted to a private clinic from where he was transferred to the Aminu Kano University Hospital.

Sources said the late Lawal, who was in his early 50s, was rushed to a private clinic after suffering from high fever, intermittent cough, and hiccups without receiving any help. medical care, before giving up the ghost.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has imposed 6 pm to 6 am curfew in Abia State from Sunday 26/04/2020, ABN TV reports.

This is to enable expedited contact tracing related to the two index cases as well as ensure enforcement of the subsisting lockdown in the state.

The Governor also warned all local government transition council chairmen to ensure total compliance with the curfew within their respective areas or risk immediate suspension from office.

He further directed that enforcement agents should ensure defaulters of the lockdown directive are taken to the mobile courts for prosecution.

Governor Ikpeazu explained that these and other measures have become necessary in the light of the threat posed to the people of the state by the outbreak of COVID-19 and called for understanding from citizens as the government will spare no effort in protecting the people, however daunting it may seem.

The uncle of the late Friday Arunsi and spokesman of the family, Kingshert Uban Kalu Ukpai made this demand on Saturday when the newly deployed Abia State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede paid a condolence visit to the family.

Describing the new CP as a mother, he expressed gratitude over the visit despite taking over as the helmsman of the state police command just a day before.

New rumors are circulating claiming that Kim Jong Un has died –  including a top Hong Kong journalist. 

Vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television Shijian Xingzou says that a ‘very solid source’ has told her Kim Jonh Un has died.

Separately, one Japanese media outlet claims that the North Korean dictator is in a ‘vegetative state’ after he underwent heart surgery.

China has dispatched a team to North Korea including medical experts to advise on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to three people familiar with the situation.

The trip by the Chinese doctors and officials comes amid conflicting reports about the health of the North Korean leader, with western outlets unable to immediately determine what the trip by the Chinese team signaled in terms of Kim’s health.

A report by the weekly Shukan Gendai  in Japan claimed on Friday that North Korea’s dictator us currently in a ‘vegetative state’ after having heart surgery earlier in the month.

The outlet cited a Chinese medic who is believed to have been sent as part of the team to treat Kim Jong Un after a delay in a simple heart procedure had left the leader severely ill.

The source cited by the news outlet claimed that Jong Un was visiting the countryside when he clutched his chest and fell to the ground. A doctor with him at the time is said to have performed CPR on accompanied him to a hospital.

While there is no official proof of the dictator’s death, the hashtag #KimJongUndead was trending on Twitter on Friday following the report.

A delegation led by a senior member of the Chinese Communist Party’s International Liaison Department left Beijing for North Korea on Thursday, two of the people said. The department is the main Chinese body dealing with neighbouring North Korea.

The sources declined to be identified given the sensitivity of the matter.

Enugu Pays April Salary Includes 25% COVID-19 Allowance For Health Workers

The Enugu State Government has announced the payment of April salaries of all the state’s public servants.

This is in furtherance of its commitment to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the state as well as cushion the effect of the lockdown on the lives of the citizens.

Disclosing this in a statement, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Secretary to the State government, said the state paid additional COVID-19 allowance for all health workers in the state.

He said it represents 25% of their basic salaries which was recently approved by the State Executive Council (EXCO), as an incentive.

In another report, the state government also announced the activation of a fully functional Coronavirus Disease Isolation and Treatment Centre equipped with requisite facilities at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital Parklane, Enugu.

This was contained in a statement released by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortunaya, shortly after Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led a combined team of government officials and heads of security agencies in the state, to monitor the level of compliance with government’s order closing the markets and land boundaries as well as inspect some health facilities in the state.

According to the statement, the state government equally activated a brand new hospital at G.R.A Nsukka to serve a COVID-19 Isolation and Treatment Centre for Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

Prof. Ortuanya disclosed that the government has taken over and commenced extensive rehabilitation and reconstruction of the former Colliery Hospital, Enugu to expand the state capacity for Coronavirus Disease Isolation and Treatment, noting that it is collaborating with the Local Government Council Chairmen to identify and designate Isolation and Treatment Centres in their respective LGAs to ensure their preparedness in the event of a possible spike in the COVID-19 burden within the state.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his personal aides have carried out tests for the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

ABN TV reports that this was done as a precaution after the death of his Chief Security Officer (CSO), Lateef Raheem.

Before Tinubu’s CSO burial on Friday, samples were taken from his body for laboratory tests to determine if he was infected with COVID-19.

On Saturday, samples were also taken from the former Lagos State governor and his personal aides. Results are expected on Monday, sources told TheCable.

Reacting to the death of his aide, Tinubu said the late police officer had been with him before he became governor of Lagos state in 1999.

“Lateef reported for work on Monday. Feeling a bit under the weather, he went home to rest. We spoke on Wednesday by phone. He was in fine spirits and was looking forward to resuming work,” he wrote.

“I felt nothing but profound shock, and then the emptiness of deep loss when I was awakened early Friday that my most trusted security aide had died and that I would never see him again. I did not know the Wednesday conversation would be our last. The pain of his loss is acute.”

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Janet Agbede in less than 24 hours after taking over as the helmsman of the foremost law enforcement agency in the state started off on a positive footing.

BREAKING: Lagos Records Another Death From Coronavirus

Lagos State has recorded another death from the COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 19.

The State Ministry of Health disclosed this via Twitter on Saturday, hours after an additional 80 cases of the Coronavirus were confirmed in the state.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) had announced on Friday that there were 114 new cases in the country.

Of the 114 cases, Lagos has 80, Gombe has 21, while the FCT has five.

Two cases each were recorded in Zamfara and Edo, while Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, and Sokoto have one case each.

With these new infections, Nigeria’s total cases now stand at 1,095, out of which 208 cases have been discharged while 32 deaths have been recorded.

Also, as of Friday, the worldwide death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic rose to 193,930, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1900 GMT.

More than 2,770,750 declared cases have been registered in 193 countries and territories since the epidemic first emerged in China in December.

Of these cases, at least 736,800 are now considered recovered.

The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.

Many countries are testing only the most serious cases.

In the United States, now the worst-hit country, the death toll stood at 50,360 with 884,004 infections. At least 81,338 patients have recovered.

Italy is the next most affected country with 25,969 deaths and 192,994 confirmed infections.

It is followed by Spain with 22,524 fatalities and 219,764 confirmed infections, France with 22,245 deaths and 159,828 infections, and Britain with 19,506 deaths and 143,464 cases.

China — excluding Hong Kong and Macau — has to date declared 4,632 deaths and 82,804 cases, just six since Thursday.

Since Thursday 1900 GMT, Sierra Leone announced its first death caused by the virus.

Europe has listed 1,329,695 cases and 119,211 deaths to date, the US and Canada together have 927,543 cases with 52,689 deaths, Asia 188,320 cases with 7,664 deaths, the Middle East 146,298 cases with 6,122 deaths, Latin America and the Caribbean 142,389 cases with 6,815 deaths. Africa lists 28,542 cases with 1,326 deaths and Oceania 7,964 cases with 103 deaths.

Coronavirus Kills First Bank Regional Manager

A Regional Manager with First Bank PLC in Kano, northern Nigeria, Abdullahi Lawal, has died of a suspected case of Coronavirus (COVID -19).

ABN TV reports that family sources said the deceased Nigerian banker took ill on Friday and was first put on admission at a private clinic in Kano from where he was referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The late Nigerian banker, who was on his early 50s, was rushed to a private clinic after he suffered high fever, intermittent cough, and respiratory hiccups without getting medical care before he gave up the ghost, sources revealed.

It was learned that the late Lawal was placed on Oxygen on arrival at the private clinic, and the treatment was discontinued after he displayed no signs of stability.

In viral audio, one Hajiya Salma Ahmed, who claimed to be a mother-in-law to the decease, painted a gory picture of how National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) frustrated attempts to secure a helpline.

Hajiya Ahmed said: “The family had called the “Kano NCDC” line several times but couldn’t get through. They finally got to “Abuja NCDC”, and were assured that officials in Kano would visit the patient to take his samples.

She explained that “but no one visited up till her son-in-law died in agony, and she was now worried that her daughter and other family members might also have the virus.”
