Amaechi made the remark while disclosing why Buhari has not commissioned Itakpe-Warri rail line after it was completed.

He spoke during an interview with Dele Momodu, Publisher of Ovation Magazine.

According to Amaechi: “Now the project is ready for Commissioning but because of Coronavirus everything is on hold.

“And you know the President is a shy person. He doesn’t like public show.

“What he said is that let’s just focus on our achievements and by the time we leave office people will see what we have done but some of us are insisting that we commission some of our projects. We have decided to name it after former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Monday, said he eased the lockdown imposed on the state for 28 days to contain the spread of coronavirus in order to prevent possible social unrest and hunger amongst the people of the state, ABN TV reports.

The governor stated this in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba.

He noted that striking a balance between protecting the economy and public health was imperative in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the governor, easing the restriction on movement in the state was a sequel to the treatment of the state’s index case as well as 68 contact persons who tested negative for the lethal virus.

Obiano said, “Like every other government, the Anambra State administration is bound to protect its people from the ravages of COVID-19 but it cannot afford to do so by unwittingly allowing millions of its people to die of hunger and starvation or by causing their businesses to collapse through an unmitigated lockdown.

“The 28 days of lockdown, when all markets were shut down, vehicular and human movements restricted, schools closed, traditional religious services suspended, funerals, wedding and title taking ceremonies practically stopped, have already taken an enormous toll on the people’s well being.

“Social unrest must be avoided. If people in developed nations could not accept more than three weeks of lockdown, despite the immense social safety nets for the poor and the huge amounts paid by governments directly to the citizens who lost their jobs in the wake of COVID-19, we can imagine what the most vulnerable in our society and elsewhere in Africa have been going through.”

He stressed that though the restriction has been eased, schools were not open yet and civil servants were still working from home, adding that no visitor was permitted into the state.

Kano State has recorded two COVID-19 deaths, ABN TV reports.

This brings the confirmed fatalities in the state to three, according to the state Ministry of Health.

Announcing the development via Twitter on Monday afternoon, it said, “As at 12:15 pm 27th April 2020, @KanostateNg records an additional 2 deaths of COVID-19.”

According to the ministry, 77 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the state while no recovery has been reported yet.

It advised residents of the state to stay at home and obey social distancing so as to break the spread of the novel virus in the state which is one of the most densely populated states in the country.

Meanwhile, the state government has said the unknown deaths in the state were caused by “acute malaria” and not COVID-19.

ABN TV reports that over 20 persons had died of “strange illnesses” in the state in the last few days.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje also accused the Federal Government on Monday of abandoning the state to its fate by not making adequate testing centres available.

However, the Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie, said a team had been deployed in the state to respond to the situation.

The state is on lockdown as part of measures to curb the spread of the novel virus.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has accused the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 of neglecting Kano State in its current efforts against the coronavirus pandemic.

Ganduje expressed his displeasures in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Monday.

He said, “We are in a serious problem. I can tell you the situation is really bad and scary. Because what we solely rely upon in fighting the disease is the testing centre.

“There is also a shortage of sample collection equipment. It is not common equipment that you can go and buy in the market. Those whose samples were collected are still waiting to know their fate.

“The problem (is) with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. Even its Director-General was in Kano. He spent a night here but we have not heard from him again. The Minister of Health is also aware that the laboratory is not functioning.

“There is a serious problem. We have been complaining that Kano needs more than one testing centre, right from the beginning of this (pandemic).”

When asked whether the state was not getting any support from Federal Government agencies in the fight against COVID-19, the governor said, “Sincerely speaking, we are not getting deserved attention.

If these equipment (testing centres) are under our control, we will do our best to make sure it works properly. But we are not getting the needed support and co-operation from the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.”

However, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, while featuring on a programme on Channel Television on Sunday said the said laboratory in Kano would resume operations on Monday (today), adding that a delegation would be sent there “to thoroughly investigate the circumstances responsible for the rising mysterious deaths in the state”.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as of Sunday night, 77 of the 1273 total cases recorded in the country were reported in Kano.

The state Health Ministry said there has not been any recovery yet, adding that there has only been one confirmed COVID-19 death in the state
