Two hundred and sixty-five Nigerians on Wednesday night arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, via an Emirate Airline.

The aircraft that brought them touched down at the airport at 7.40 p.m.

They had earlier been scheduled to arrive the airport at 3.00 p.m. but due to one of the passengers who went into labour, the plane had to make a U-turn to UAE.

Petrol Depot Price Reduced To N108, Diesel N164/litre

Following removal of fuel subsidy on premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) has announced a reduction in the ex-depot price for petrol and automotive gas oil (AGO), otherwise called diesel.

The new ex-depot price for petrol is now N108 per litre for the month of May while ex-depot price for diesel is now N164 per litre for the same month.

In a memo to oil marketers and other stakeholders in the petroleum marketing business, dated May 5, 2020, titled: ‘Re: PPMC Petroleum Products Prices for May 2020,’ the PPMC reduced the ex-depot price for diesel to N164 per litre for depots in Lagos and N166 per litre for depots in Oghara, Calabar, Port Harcourt, among others.

The PPMC said in the memo that the new prices would take effect from May 5, 2020.

Confirming the new price change, the spokesman of NNPC, Dr. Kenny Obateru, stated that the price change for petrol from N113.28 per litre to N108 per litre is a marketing strategy to make more sales while complying with the PPPRA price template.

“We reviewed the ex-depot price to enable us make more sales. For AGO, it is a deregulated product and as such is its prices are determined by market forces,” he said.

The ex-depot price is the price at which the depot owners sell the commodity to retail outlets across the country. Though the PPMC did not state the Expected Open Market Price of the commodity, which is the pump price of the price, but over the years, the difference between the ex-depot price and the pump price of petrol is usually around N9 per litre.

This means that at an ex-depot price of N108 per litre, the pump price of PMS should be around N115 per litre, N10 lower than the current highest price band of N125 per litre.

The current retail price of petrol is N123.50 per litre at NNPC Retail outlets and N125 per litre at private petrol stations, while diesel is sold around N200 per litre.

It would be recalled that the NNPC GMD, Mallam Mele Kyari, had announced that era of fuel subsidy is gone forever recently.

COVID-19 Costs Nigerian Aviation N17bn — Sirika

Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, says many airlines will not survive the economic crisis which is a fallout of COVID-19.

Speaking at the briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19 on Wednesday, Sirika said though COVID-19 has affected different sectors of the economy, none could be compared to that of aviation.

He put the loss suffered by the Nigerian aviation industry during COVID-19 at N17 billion, saying the loss can never be recovered.

“Certainly in civil aviation, we’re in very difficult moments like everyone else. All of this started because someone travelled. Unfortunately, he came back home with it and the consequence is what we’ve been going through,” he said.

“We are very aware of our responsibilities and the weight attached to this. We are worst hit among all the sectors. Some 17 billion is being lost by the airlines monthly, thanks to COVID-19. The sector is highly regulated and very coordinated and has set standards that must be followed at all times, regardless, because we speak to safety.

“This is the situation of civil aviation. It is really a pathetic one and I can guarantee you that several airlines won’t come out of this, unfortunately.”

Amid the economic crisis, Arik Air, one of the leading airlines in the country, had asked 90 percent of its staff to embark on unpaid leave beginning from May 1.

Bayern Agree To Sign Leroy Sane On Five-Year deal

Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed on a transfer with Manchester City winger Leroy Sane on a five-year deal, according to a report.

Sport Bild claims the 24-year-old has agreed on terms with Bayern, but the fee is still to be negotiated.

According to the magazine, Bayern’s director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic and board member Oliver Kahn want to pay 40 million euros ($43 million) – half of Sane’s estimated market value.

However, the Germany international has not played for City’s first team since tearing his right knee ligament last August in the FA Community Shield match wins over Liverpool at Wembley.

Having joined from Schalke in 2016 for a reported fee of £37 million (42.5 million euros, $45.8 million), Sane is under contract in Manchester until 2021.

A transfer fee of around 100 million euros had been reported last summer when Bayern was trying to strike a deal sign him before injury struck.

According to Sport Bild, a few factors could help Bayern sign Sane for a lower fee, especially as he has been sidelined for most of the season.

Bayern could sign him for the price they want as the transfer market is deflated by the uncertainty over the coronavirus with all major European leagues currently suspended.

Manchester City needs to generate income from transfers to comply with financial fair-play regulations having been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons due to violations and they risk losing Sane to Munich on a free transfer.

Juventus vs Lyon Champions League Return August 8

UEFA have reportedly began compiling a calendar to complete the Champions League season with Juventus’ clash against Lyon set to take place on August 8.

According to French news outlet RMC Sport, Uefa officials held a video meeting on Wednesday morning with relevant club presidents to reaffirm their desire to conclude the campaign.

In that meeting, they declared that all domestic divisions must be completed by the end of July in order for the Champions League and Europa League to be played out.

RMC then adds that Juventus’ Round of 16-second leg tie against Lyon in Turin has been pencilled in for August 8.

This match will only go ahead at this date though should it be declared safe to do so by Italian authorities.

The Old Lady goes into that match trailing 1-0 thanks to a Lucas Tousart strike in the 31st minute.

It remains to be seen how Uefa intends to complete the remaining Round of 16 matches.

Bayern Munich still have to play Chelsea, with the Germans destined to advance through to the quarter-finals after beating the Blues 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile Barcelona goes into their tie against Napoli with the scores level after Antoine Griezmann cancelled out Dries Mertens’ opener.

According to Get French Football News, the quarter-finals could be decided after just one match, as opposed to two legs.

Oyedepo Questions Closure Of Churches Over COVID-19 [VIDEO]

The Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide alias Winners’ Chapel International, David Oyedepo, has questioned the continuous closure of churches over the COVID-19 pandemic, saying he suspects ulterior motives.

Oyedepo, who spoke during the Covenant Hour of Prayer Programme on Wednesday, said if markets could be opened for six hours, there was no reason for the closure of churches even for two hours.

The revered cleric said he believed there was a gang up against the growth of the church in the country.

He said, “There is something wrong; for people to be allowed to be in the market for six hours and can’t be in church for two hours, it is an upside-down way of looking at things.

“Which one is more orderly? The market or the church?

“I can smell a rat. The Lord spoke to me on it so strong yesterday. I can smell a rat. Behind all this, how do we stop the church from exploding? The people involved don’t know it.

“The voice of darkness is influencing people at various levels, targeting the church because the growth and expansion of the church is the greatest headache of the devil. But the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The devil and all his agents shall surely pay for this.

“I don’t know what hospital that records the kind of healings that the church of God records. And now hospitals, where people die every day, are open, but the church is closed because the oppression of the devil has no medical cure.”

Earlier, the President of the LoveWorld Incorporated, aka Christ Embassy, Chris Oyakhilome, had slammed church leaders who agreed to the lockdown of churches without praying and consulting with other pastors.

COVID-19: FG Extends Flight Ban By 4 Weeks

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the international and local flight ban by four, 4 weeks.

ABN TV reports that this development was revealed by Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, during the daily briefing on Wednesday.

“Tomorrow marks the last day for the enforcement of the closure of Nigeria’s airspace to flights. We have assessed the situation in the aviation industry and have come to the conclusion that given the facts available to us and based on the advice of experts, the ban on all flights will be extended for an additional 4 weeks,” he said.

“The Honourable Minister of Aviation will give you details during this briefing.”

President, Muhammadu Buhari relaxed a five-week lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states from this Monday.

Nigeria currently had 2,950 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

Man Smashes New-Born Baby On The Floor In Imo Because It’s Not A Boy

The wife of a 49-year old man was delivered of a new-born baby, the issue of gender in families played out in Imo State after he found out the 5th child was female.

ABN TV reports that Out of rage, he smashed the new-born baby on the floor and the baby died instantly.

Ezekiel Anorue has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for killing a newborn child and is now facing a charge for murder which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

A police source said that the dastardly act was exposed after the wife raised alarm when the child stopped breathing immediately the father hit her on the floor.

It was gathered that the suspect, Anorue, was angry that his wife had lied to him that the new baby will be a male child, which was what he had longed for in the family.

The wife, who spoke in tears, disclosed that she had to lie to her husband that she will be delivered of a male child because she was threatened so badly after her 3rd and 4th female children.

She said, “I had to lie to him so I could have peace of mind”.

The suspect, Anorue, confessed to the crime: “I really don’t know what came over me; I was so angry that I threw the baby on the floor.

What my wife told me was different from the result of the scan she claimed revealed we would have a baby boy.

I had to give her money to do the test at two different laboratories but she always came home with a result showing we would have a boy.

I had already renovated our house, bought a lot of things but when I got home it was a baby girl”.

“We already had four girls and I was so happy when she told me we will have a male child but it turned to be female.

”Speaking on the strength of the report, the Imo State Public Relations Officer said the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
