“I Knew Buhari Can’t Fix Any Of Nigeria’s Problems” – Yakasai

1

Elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has explained that his reason for not supporting any of President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential ambitions was borne out of his long-held conviction that Buhari lacks the ability to fix Nigeria’s problems. ABN TV reports

He added that the past five years of Buhari administration has proven him correct.

Yakasai made this known while appearing at the video Conference organized by Governance index on Friday which was attended by close to 100 participants across the globe.

He said President Buhari is yet to prove him wrong that he is competent to coordinate the affairs of the country.

Yakasai said, “I have never supported Buhari. I have been against him because I felt he was not competent to handle the job, and I have been proven right.

Yakasai said:” When President Muhammadu Buhari was elected, I was hoping that at least, we will get stable power all over the country. This is his fifth year. He has only two more active years because the last one year will be for election.

“I don’t know what are his plans, when will Kano get electricity to restore its industrial might so that every man in Kano will be gainfully employed as a result of a provision in Kano, likewise Enugu and Lagos among others.

“Those were the key issues from the time Buhari was elected and they are still the issues of today.”

Nnamdi Kanu To FG: “I Will Start Charging You For Free Education On Facebook”

The leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Tuesday took a swipe at the Nigerian government, saying that the government visits his Facebook page to get free education.

The IPOB leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu therefore, said that very soon he will start charging the Nigerian government for receiving free education from his page.

He equally faulted the announcement made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, on Covid-19, saying that the announcement was supposed to be made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In a statement entitled, “Learning is good isn’t it, especially from miscreants” personally signed by Mazi Kanu, and made available to Vanguard by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, Kanu queried why the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha will allegedly make the announcement that was supposed to be made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Nnamdi Kanu commended the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for issuing a statement that rebuked the government for using Boss Mustapha to issue directives to Nigeria citizens.

Read the statement in full: “Good to see that Nigeria, her failed government and opposition come to my page to receive free education in History, Civics, Constitutional Governance and Democracy.

Very soon I have to start charging them.”

“Last night I wrote in my penultimate post that “Boss Mustapha made an announcement which the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo ought to have made in the absence of Mr President.

“It is an abomination in a democracy for a mere political appointee to issue a directive to citizens who cannot hold him accountable through the ballot box.

“This is Government 101. The TV station knew that was not only wrong and democratically untenable, but it was also a subversion of the Constitution and will of the people.

“Later that same night the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, issued a statement, rebuking the government for using Boss Mustapha to issue directives to Nigeria citizens.

“This is how it will be in the future, Nigerians will troop to Biafraland to learn how to run a democratic government and we Biafrans would be glad to teach them for free because they are fellow Africans.

“The correct question PDP should be asking the Nigerian government is, where is the Vice President and why is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation doing his job when he is still alive and well?

Ronaldo Returns To Juventus Training After Two Months

1

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training with Juventus in Turin on Tuesday after an absence of over two months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 35-year-old arrived at the Juventus Training Centre in a Jeep with tinted windows around 09:20 (0720 GMT), leaving three hours later with a smile and thumbs up for waiting photographers.

Ronaldo underwent medical and physical tests before joining up with his teammates for the first time in 72 days for individual training, according to media reports.

Coach Maurizio Sarri has been conducting training in small groups since Monday, pending the final health protocol to be agreed with the Italian government.

Juventus players got back to individual training on May 4, the day Ronaldo returned to Italy after spending lockdown in his native Portugal.

For the past two weeks, he has been in quarantine in his villa in Turin.

Ronaldo played in Juventus’ last Serie A game before the season was suspended, a 2-0 win over Inter Milan behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium on March 8.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the first Juventus foreign player, among those who left Italy during the lockdown, to return to the team’s Continassa training centre.

Italy has been one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic with more than 32,000 deaths.

League leaders Juventus are leading Lazio by one point as they target a ninth consecutive ‘Scudetto’.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Monday that all its competitions, including Serie A, will remain suspended until June 14.

Serie A had hoped to return on June 13 but the FIGC has pushed back the date in line with a government decree that all sports competitions be suspended until next month.

The FIGC said the choice was made “pending any further… decision by the authorities”, suggesting the possibility of a restart on June 13 might still exist.

But Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Saturday he needed “more guarantees” before the green light could finally be given for football to resume.

A meeting is planned in the near future between Conte and Italian football bosses.

The government’s technical and scientific committee will decide in the coming days if it accepts the new health protocols proposed for a return to group training and competition.

Councillor Alleged To Have Stolen 11 Cows In Police Custody

1

The Police Command in Adamawa State said it had recovered 11 stolen cows from a serving councillor in an ongoing cattle rustling investigation.

ABN TV reports that DSP Suleiman Nguroje, the Command Public Relations Officer while handing over of the cows to their owners on Tuesday in Yola, said the suspect was cooperating with the police in its investigation.

“The arrest of Makana Ngari, Councillor representing Vulpi Ward in Numan Local Government area and other suspects in connection with Cattle rustling is yielding positive result.

“Eleven cows so far recovered from the councillor and his cattle rustling cohorts.

“The command, however, handed over the cows to the leadership of Pulaku Njonde Jam, Adamawa State Chapter, on bond on behalf of the original owners,” he said.

He said an investigation was ongoing to recover more cows including those recently rustled at Mbemum village.

Speaking shortly after receiving the cows, Alhaji Ya’u Isa, State Chairman of Pulaku Njonde Jam, thanked the Police command and Adamawa government for their quick intervention and recovery of some of the stolen cows.

Isa said that within one year, Fulani herders had lost no fewer than 450 cattle and 240 sheep to cattle rustlers in Numan and Lamurde LGAs.

“We discussed the issue with the state deputy governor, Seth Crowther, on how to bring a lasting solution to the problem and restore peace in the affected areas.

“We are confident the government is making efforts from its side to ensure peace reign in the state.

“However, government and the security operatives have to do more in dealing with the elements who are behind cattle rustling in the state,” Isa said.

Narrating his level of involvement, the councillor said he sold the cows to one Adamu Numan, a butcher and a cow dealer in Numan town, who is also in detention.

Ngari confirmed that the police recovered five of the stolen cows he sold to Numan, claiming that the animals were given to him to sale by his brother.

On his part, Numan said he paid N50,000 as part payment for the five cows at about 11:30 pm on May 12.

“This is not the first time I have been buying cows from Makana Ngari,” Adamu told the police.

Perm Sec Speaks On Paying N7bn For Uncompleted Building, Says “Agric Minister Approved It”

1

Mohammed Bello, permanent secretary of the ministry of science and technology, has denied the allegation of financial misconduct made against him.

The federal government had issued a query to Bello over alleged financial misconduct while he was the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development.

He was accused of purchasing an uncompleted building for N7 billion without following due process.

But in a response to the query, Bello said Sabo Nanono, minister of agriculture, and the federal executive council (FEC) approved the purchase of the building.

In a letter dated May 14, he said all the financial transactions made while he was at the ministry of agriculture followed due process.

“While denying in totality all the allegations, I hereby forward my representations and response to all the false allegations contained in the query,” the permanent secretary said.

“I am constrained to give details of the transactions I approved to set the record straight and clear my name. I will like to state the following that all transactions at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development were approved through Administrative process and principles as traditioned in the conduct of government business.

“That FMARD run a rolling budget year in year out as most projects are been captured as ongoing; that all contracts/procurement and payments at the FMARD followed due process.

“There are procedures for contracts/procurement and payments handled by various departments in all government agencies, FMARD inclusive.

“That my tenure as Permanent Secretary at FMARD commenced from 10th January 2019 to 18th December 2019 and hence cannot be held responsible or liable for actions prior to 10th January 2019.

“I state that contractors were dully paid. The allegation of contractors not been paid is totally false. All contractors whose contract was captured in the 2018 budgetary allocation were paid in accordance with budgetary releases.

“However, contractors whose contracts are ongoing were rolled over as ongoing. Rollover capital projects are not new in contract management.

“I will state that due process was followed to the latter in the purchase of the said building.

After submission of the recommendation to the Hon. Minister of Agriculture; He approved that Council Memo is made to that effect.

We then sent the Memo to the Secretary to Government of the Federation who then scheduled it for Federal Executive Council Approval. Consequently, the Federal Executive Council approved the purchase of the building.”

Bello accused the agriculture minister and Mu’azu Abdulkadir, the current permanent secretary of the ministry, of being responsible for the allegations against him.

“These are the same people alleging that the purchased office building was unfit for use,” he said.

“It is worthy of note at this point that it is the current Permanent Secretary FMARD who is actually guilty of virement as since after the approval of the above contracts has refused to sign and release letters of award of a contract to the respective contractors but instead diverted and vire the funds to other projects in his locality that were never part of the appropriation, neither advertised nor bided for.

“This is a case of unequivocal virement.”

Social Media Users Beg Ikpeazu To Offer Lady Labourer Employment Instead Of Tip

A popular social media platform, Facebook was abuzz on Monday after Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, Esq the Chief Press Secretary to Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu shared a photo on his verified Facebook page in which the governor was offering a lady labourer tip in appreciation of her hard work.

The Governor had gone to inspect the progress of work at the site of the renovation works at the Infectious Diseases Hospital Aba on Monday where he saw the lady whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report at the construction site serving chippings.

According to Mr. Ememanka, “The Governor kept staring at her with keen interest and was obviously impressed.

“Just before he left the site, the Governor sent for the lady, brought out some substantial amount of money and gave her.

“Jisike nnu, the Governor told her.

“Thank you Sir. She responded with a huge smile on her face.

“I cannot categorically tell you how much he gave her but considering the daily pay of masons in Aba, she would have to work daily for close to three weeks to earn that” he said.

This however did not go down well with a section of Facebook users who thought the governor should have used the opportunity to touch the lady’s life permanently instead of giving her tips.

According to them, an offer of employment or substantial amount to commence a business that will sustain her and her dependents would have been better.

“This is not a good news for such incident, We could have heard that the poor woman life has change as the governor meet her suffering. Stupid people will never understand this and they will still talk good or praise the governor over nothing. How much did he gave the poor woman to compare how much he will loot from this little project. He did not try at all for not change the poor woman life entirely. Let him look for a huge amount to help the woman for business or fixed her in a good job. This is not encouraging please” says Samuel Shiniko Oleka in a comment in ABN TV‘s Facebook group, All Breaking News.

“The world will here this… This is corruption… A governor…. Give such a woman money instead of changing her life….i wonder Wat ur wife will do if she the one….maybe she will give her zobo to drink” says Michael Kayode.

Another commenter, Onengiye Bestman said, “He should employ her at Ministry of Works in Abia State”.

“Giving her some money is encouraging her to continue from where she stopped by carrying cement” Kelechi Johnkennedy said.

“Gov Okezie Ikpeazu is a good man!! Hoooohaaa!! It was his good deeds that took him where he is today* You can’t get in touch with him & remain the same!! Onyeisi kaa nká ooo!! May GOD reward you in JESUS NAME AMEN!!” Peters Ernest Ibekwe Prince said.

Other respondents who spoke to our correspondent offline said the governor would have been the ultimate destiny helper to the lady by empowering her to self sustenance.
