Jailbreak For All iOS 13.5 Devices Coming Soon – Hackers Claim

0

The team behind the “unc0ver” jailbreaking tool for iOS has announced an upcoming version of its software that can patch “every signed iOS version on every device” using a zero-day kernel vulnerability by Pwn20wnd, a renowned iOS hacker.

If the claims are true, that would mean Apple’s latest flagship devices like the iPhone 11iPhone SE, and 2020 iPad Pro can be jailbroken, even if they’re running iOS 13.5, which was released only yesterday.

This would be a significant development in the jailbreaking community, second only to last year’s surprise announcement of “checkm8,” an exploit found on nearly every chip made by Apple, which paved the way for a permanent, non-patchable jailbreak on hundreds of millions of affected iOS devices.

“Checkm8” was the first publicly available boot room exploit for iOS devices since the iPhone 4 in 2010.

The unc0ver team didn’t say when the updated tool would be released, but final stability tests are currently being performed, according to their website.

Checkra1n,” another jailbreaking tool made by the same security researcher responsible for the “checkm8” exploit, is presently the only way to unlock devices up to the ‌iPhone‌ 8 and ‌iPhone‌ X, which use Apple’s A11 Bionic chip.

Northern Governors Ask President Buhari For Special Fund To Combat COVID-19

1

The Northern Governors Forum has asked for a special fund from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the region.

President Buhari had approved N10bn for Lagos.

In a communique issued after the Northern Governors Forum held a teleconference on Wednesday, the governors said their states have 54 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases recorded in the country and appealed for special relief.

The meeting was presided over by Simon Lalong, Chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau State.

“the northern governors also maintained their earlier decision to purchase COVID-19 Mobile Testing Vans which have already been ordered to boost testing of more citizens, especially in the rural areas.

“On enforcing the closure of inter-state boundary roads, the Northern governors again expressed disappointment that despite several measures taken, including Presidential orders, there are still violations where people move from one state to another through compromise and use of illegal routes.

“The forum resolved to continue their appeal to the Federal Government for support to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic, as the Northern region now has about 54 per cent of the national cases and 70 per cent of new infections,” the communique read.

Barr. Ubani Decries The Illegal Detention Of Lawyer Emperor Ogbonna By DSS

0

Second Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Monday Onyekachi Ubani is irked by the continuous and illegal detention of Mr Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna, a Legal Practitioner of note by the DSS for nearly a month after he was abducted, so to speak, from the Correctional Centre in Umuahia where he had been detained for over a month and a half for alleged infraction of the Cybercrime Act by the former Commissioner of Police of Abia State before been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Umuahia.

It will be recalled that Emperor Ogbonna Esq was alleged to have published on his Facebook wall that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia allegedly visited a shrine outside the country where he was said to have sworn to an oath of allegiance and secrecy to the former Governor of the State, Senator T. A. Orji. This publication led to his arrest and prosecution before a magistrate court that has no jurisdiction.

Despite the zeal of the State Government officials to perpetually keep him in the correctional centre having refused to charge him before the appropriate court with jurisdiction, the Defendant through his team of lawyers made up principally of the members of the Aba Branch of the NBA stoutly fought and secured a liberal bail condition for the young man.

The story is that as the team of lawyers and relations were about to perfect the bail condition, the State Government and DSS officials in Umuahia stormed the Court premises in a commando-style seeking to abduct Mr Emperor Ogbonna similar to what took place recently in Sowore Omoyele’s matter at Federal High Court Premises, Abuja, but this time around, the Correctional Centre officials in Umuahia were awake and resisted them on the ground that the bail condition was not yet perfected.

Unfortunately later in the evening, acting under pressure from known and unknown forces, the Correctional Centre officials released Mr Emperor Ogbonna to the DSS officials in Umuahia who had kept him in illegal detention till date.

Mr Ubani is of the opinion that this is clearly a flagrant and unmitigated violation of the fundamental human rights of Mr Emperor Ogbonna as donated by the supreme law of the land being the 1999 Constitution as Amended. The maximum period allowed by the constitution for the detention of a citizen is 48 hours and the reason for that long period is, if there is no court within a certain radius for arraignment within 24 hours.

Mr Ubani contends strongly that the continuous detention of Mr Emperor Ogbonna Esq whether in Umuahia or Abuja for whatever offence whether against the present, past Governor of the State or against the present President of Nigeria is a bailable offence for which this long detention is condemned in strongest terms.

Mr Ubani states “that the DSS is permitted by the laws of the land to charge Mr Emperor Ogbonna to a court of competent jurisdiction for any offence he is alleged to have committed at any place in Nigeria. However, his continuous detention without any charge or arraignment is unlawful, unconstitutional and clearly satanic”.

He further reminds tormentors of Mr Emperor Ogbonna that they will never remain in government or service forever and that whatever they sow today, they will reap in large quantity whether here on earth or life hereafter. “It is only a matter of time” he concluded.

Northern Youths Migrating To South Not Almajiri — Tanko Yakassai

1

Former Liaison Officer to President Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, says the northern youths flooding the South are not Almajiri.

Yakassai, who tried to set the records straight regarding the influx of northern youths to the South, insisted the youths were not Almajirai while calling for an investigation.

“You need to investigate those who are sending these Almajirai. Is it true that they are Almajirai?: “I saw a bunch of youths wearing shirts; the Almajirai don’t wear shirts.

“In the beginning, they said Fulani and now they changed to Almajirai,” Yakassai said in an interview with Vanguard.

He added, “They wear the same things most of our compatriots wear. These are not the Almajirai from where I come from.

“This is part of the kill-and-hate Nigeria campaign and I will not be part of it. I am a committed Nigerian; I spent all my life, starting from 1953 when I was just 28 years old, to fight for the unity of Nigeria.

“I will not support or associate myself with anybody who is anti-Nigeria.”

FENRAD Slams Prisons Service Over Shooting Of Inmates In Aba Failed Jailbreak

1

A Human Rights Group in Aba Abia State, Foundation For Environmental Rights Advocacy & Development FENRAD has expressed displeasure over the shooting and injure of inmates recently by officers of Nigeria Correctional Service in a failed attempt to break the jail, saying it is a violation of rights of the inmates.

While condemning the attempted jailbreak, the group said the right to life of citizens is of utmost sacrosanct even while in the prison, stating that only in situation where such inmate has been condemned to death.

In a release jointly signed on Thursday by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor and the Head Legal Team, Barr. Olusegun Bamgbose it expressed surprise that the Presidential order to the Attorney General of the federation to quarterly grant pardon to detainees who have spent more than six years awaiting trial at different facilities is not obeyed.

The Foundation, therefore, called on the authorities of Nigeria Correctional Service to identify and punish all officers who took part in the shooting along with their colleagues in the Nigeria Police.

“FENRAD recalls that in 2018, in accordance with provisions of the administration of criminal justice act, ACJA 2015, the president ordered the Attorney General of the federation to quarterly grant pardon to detainees who have spent more than six years awaiting trial at different facilities record of which the inspector general shall make available to the attorney.

“This directive also extended to states Commissioners of Police (CPs) to, in a likewise manner, transfer quarterly records of inmates to the Chief Judges of the states within the federation who shall also grant pardon while at the same time granting such powers of reprieve to the chief magistrates who shall, based on such records made available by arrest authorizing officers to grant pardon to inmates to facilitate decongestion of correctional facilities or yards.

“Unfortunately, the directive issued by the president is not being followed to the letter with specific reference to Abia.

“A lead report has it that out of 10, 000 plus persons ordered to be released throughout the federation, only a little over 2,000 of such persons have been so far released nationwide.

“Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia was in the news and in a worrying situation. Inmates in the centre, it was gathered, attempted a prison break at the course of which officers of the arms department of the Facility, together with men of the Central Police Station, Aba Area Command, opened fire at the said inmates resulting in three of such persons being hospitalized together with other officers of the Correctional Facility at Federal Medical Center FMC Umuahia after bullet wounds and severe injuries.

“While FENRAD laments any attempt at breaking the detention centre by inmates or detainees, it understands that the resort to maximum force as shown by the duty-bound officers is outrightly condemnable as it does not show respect for human rights and rules of engagement.

“The life of every citizen, FENRAD believes, is important whether doing prison time or free, unless where such a citizen has been condemned to death by the law – capital punishment.

“FENRAD regrets to make known that while the presidential order regarding prisoners’ release, especially to decongest the facilities in this period of the global pandemic, is being considerably adhered to elsewhere, Abia’s case is different.

“In the case of Abia, not all the affected inmates have been released and this is worrisome given the era in which we are.

“Sad, it was, that certain persons serving various took laws into their hands citing this act of neglect. Had the necessary steps been followed this wouldn’t be the case.

“FENRAD demands the state’s Controller of Corrections brings to book those officials who shot at the said victims while demanding the same is done to the collaborating police officers likewise.

“FENRAD regrets that while Abia has hitherto harvested from the tragedy of deaths of innocent citizens from security agencies, especially, during the lockdown, an act of this magnitude should not add more to such sorrows.

“FENRAD wishes to make it known that it shall stop at nothing, in this regard, to see that every party gets justice. No stone shall be left unturned as rights shall matter in Abia, no less.

“FENRAD regrets this melee and the attendant mayhem in a time like this. COVID-19 should avail Abia and all security agencies thereof such opportunity to look inward and reassess our collective journey for peace. Indeed, may peace never elude Abia” it says

50-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Umuahia

1

The body of a 50-year-old man, identified as Chukwudi Maduka, who allegedly committed suicide at Umuezu-Ore Umuana village in the Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia Monday has been retrieved.

The Public Relations Officer of Abia State Police Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the development in Umuahia, said Maduka was found dead on Monday morning in his one-room apartment.

The spokesman said the 50-year-old man did not leave a suicide note, adding that the command had commenced an investigation into the incident “to possibly unravel the reason for the suicide.”

Narrating the development, a resident of the area, Mr Dave Maduakor, said 50-year-old Maduka set his apartment on fire before hanging himself, using the ceiling fan in the room.

Maduakor said neighbours sensed danger when they noticed smoke coming from the room of the deceased.

“When they tried to open the door, they noticed that it was locked from inside, so they forced it open and found Maduka’s body hanging from the fan,” Maduakor said, quoting the deceased’s landlord, Mr John Chikezie.

He said that the deceased was reported to have travelled to his village in Lokpanta in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State and returned to Umuana community in Umuahia on Friday.

He said: “The landlord said when he wanted to speak with the man, who locked himself up in his room on Saturday, he told him that he was praying.”

Maduakor said the incident was later reported at the Ehimiri Police Station, where some operatives were detailed to the scene.

He said the chairman of the community, Mr Ngozi Onwumere, with the landlord, consulted a group, known as “kamanu” that specialised in handling suicide cases.

“The group brought down the body of the man, which was later deposited in a mortuary,” Maduakor said.

Wuhan Officially Bans Eating Of Wild Animals

2

Authorities in Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, have officially banned eating, hunting and breeding wild animals.

A notice on the city’s municipal government website said the ban will come into immediate effect and will last for five years.

ABN TV reported that the novel coronavirus was first recorded in Wuhan late last year and the outbreak was linked to a seafood market where live animals were also sold.

However, following the outbreak of the virus, hunting is now banned in Wuhan except for “scientific research, population regulation, monitoring of epidemic diseases and other special circumstances,” the notice says.

“Hunting of wild animals is strictly prohibited,” the statement says. “The administrative area of ?? the whole city is a wildlife sanctuary.”

There will also be strict new controls on the breeding of wild animals, with city officials making it clear that none can be reared as food.

“It is prohibited to artificially breed terrestrial wild animals and rare and endangered aquatic wild animals under national key protection for the purpose of eating,” the notice says.

The notice also says illegal wildlife trading is “comprehensively prohibited” and there will be strengthening of “the supervision and inspection of wild animals”.

Officials will also “actively carry out wildlife protection and public health safety publicity and education, eliminate the abuse of wild animals, promote a civilised and healthy, green and environmentally friendly lifestyle, and create a good atmosphere for people and nature to live in harmony”.

The move comes amid mounting pressure for China to crack down on the illegal wildlife trade blamed by many for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Corrupt Politicians Trying To Blackmail Magu – EFCC

2

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has commenced investigations of platforms being used to promote a derogatory campaign against Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the agency.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dele Oyewale, EFCC head of media and publicity, said such campaigns are being done by “overseas-based,  politically-exposed and disgraced elements” who are being investigated for “unnerving acts of corruption.”

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been drawn to the antics of some few elements in the social media, employing desperate antics of blackmail, and smear campaigns against the successful war being fought against corrupt practices by the commission and its courageous chairman,  Ibrahim Magu,” Oyewale said.

“As a law enforcement agency,  the EFCC has enough facts about the sponsors of such insidious campaigns. It is an unflattering fact that corruption will always fight back and the Commission is not surprised that such a campaign could be coming from some overseas-based,  politically-exposed and disgraced elements being investigated for unnerving acts of corruption.”

The commission said Magu’s “courage, consistency and never-say-die spirit”,  has undoubtedly, earned him “a tribe of hard critics,  cynics and bitter foes.”

“However, it is uncharitable to link him with the ownership of some buildings belonging to other individuals with verifiable addresses,” Oyewale added.

“It is even ridiculous to allege that he shied away from being served a fictitious writ of summons over a  matter long decided by the Judiciary.

“The Commission finds every unfounded claim against it and its helmsman,  as desperate backlash from disreputable elements suffering its uncompromising works against corrupt practices.”

The EFCC advised the public to disregard such information while giving assurance that the outcome of their investigations would be made public

“We are not worried about such retrograde moves.  Members of the public only need to ignore tendencies aimed at blackmailing the EFCC and its workforce,” the commission said.

“The commission is on the trail of all the blackmailers and paid agents of darkness armed against it.  Massive investigations of the platforms being used and their promoters have commenced.

“Facts about their operations shall be made known to the public and outcome of investigations being carried out shall also be released to the public.

“Appropriate legal actions are also being taken against bloggers and their promoters embarking on a campaign of calumny against the commission.

“The EFCC, its helmsman and entire workforce would not be dismayed or distracted in any way.

“The task of fighting corruption is sacrosanct and no reactionary antics of detractors will succeed against the commission.”
