China Warns US Against Sparking Cold War

1

Wang Yi, the Chinese foreign minister, said Sunday that the U.S. should “give up on its wishful thinking of changing China” and avoid bringing the two countries to a “new Cold War.”

“China has no intention to change, still replace, the United States,” he said, according to the Washington Post. “It is time for the United States to give up it’s wishful thinking of changing China and stopping 1.4 billion people in their historic march toward modernization.”

The relationship between the U.S. and China has been strained for some time. President Trump has criticized Beijing over a trade imbalance and the outbreak of the coronavirus lead both to accuse the other of an improper response. Trump recently said that he may completely end U.S. funding for the World Health Organization over its cosy ties with Beijing.

The White House has insisted that Beijing downplayed the virus’ threat in December, which led to the subsequent outbreak. China has denied the charge and accused Trump of shirking responsibility to the organization, according to the AFP.

The Post pointed out that a spokesman for Wang implied that American troops planted the virus in Wuhan.

Stuart Varney, an anchor on FOX Business, said last week that he believes that the Cold War between the two countries has already started. He pointed to China’s move to impose national security legislation on Hong Kong.

Chris Patten, the last British governor of Hong Kong prior to its handover to China, lamented what he called “a new Chinese dictatorship.”

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called the proposal “a death knell for the high degree of autonomy” that Beijing promised the former British colony when it was returned to China in 1997.

Buhari’s Ministers Acting Like They Own Ministries – APC Group

1

A pro-All Progressives Congress, APC body, APC Mandate Defenders, has accused some ministers of the Buhari administration of carrying themselves like they own the federal ministries.

They raised the alarm while condemning some ministers’ violation of Nigeria’s Public Service Rules, including the arbitrary sack of parastatal heads.

The group expressed dismay on Sunday in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Ifeanyi Emeka.

ABN TV recalls a December 2019 instance when the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, sacked two senior officials within 24 hours.

They are Marilyn Amobi, Managing Director of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) and Damilola Ogunbiyi, former Managing Director of Rural Electrification Agency.

Interestingly, President Muhammadu Buhari overruled Mamman in both cases.

In canceling Ogunbiyi’s suspension, the presidency tweeted: “Her resignation effective 31 December 2019 has been accepted to enable her to take up her new UN appointment.”

In a strongly-worded complaint, the APC group recalled that Buhari himself directed that all executive matters be forwarded to him through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

They noted that collaboration will enable the government to achieve quicker results, but lamented that certain ministers and heads of agencies were working in contrast at the expense of efficient service delivery.

The group restated that the main duty of a minister is to articulate and guide the implementation of government policies as well as represent his/her ministry at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

“Some ministers now see themselves as lords over their subordinates instead of working together to achieve Mr President’s vision and plans for the country.

“Just recently, the immediate past female managing director of an intervention agency of the Federal Government said she was removed by the minister in charge of her ministry simply because she refused to yield to the minister’s unpatriotic and irrational demands from her.

“We have seen several instances where unnecessary bickering and personal differences between a minister and a chief executive have brought embarrassments to the government, despite an existing public service rule which had already addressed the issue.”

The group condemned how Mustapha, who supervises and coordinates government programmes and policies, has been under attack for reminding ministers of an existing process to be followed before any chief executive is removed.

“Contents of the Public Service Rules were not written by Boss Mustapha but were formulated by the Government of Nigeria to ensure effective service delivery and prevent arbitrary removal of any chief executive who a minister does not like his or her face as well as to promote national interest over personal interest.

“Is it something that should warrant the barrage of attacks and campaigns of calumny against the SGF by some vested interests and influence peddlers in the power sector”, the statement asked.

Church Disowns Woman Caught In Anambra Shrine

Members of United Voice of Sabbath Churches of Nigeria (UVSCN) in Anambra State, an umbrella body of Sabbath church have disowned a woman who was caught days ago at a shrine in Agulu, Anaocha council of the state.

ABN TV reported earlier that the woman who was accused of fetish practices was nabbed while dressed in a white garment and making incantations in a shrine prohibited to women in a manner which many likened to Sabbath worshippers’ style.

Rev Arinze Chukwuka, spokesperson of the group insisted that the woman had no Sabbath identity. He also claimed that the woman confessed to being a traditionalist and not a Sabbatharian priest after he and other clergymen assigned to investigate the incident interrogated her.

Chukwuka said;

“The general public should stop linking the woman with Sabbath worship because she has no identity as a Sabbath observer nor operate a Sabbath Church.

“I led a team of clergy assigned to investigate the incident following a barrage of publications in social media and local radio stations but after interrogating her, she confessed she is a traditionalist not a Sabbatharian priest.

“The members of the public are warned that Sabbath Churches are Sabbath observers who believe in the Ten Commandments of God and everybody who reads the Bible knows that the first of the Commandments is that people should not worship other gods in any form like wooden images.

“The woman couldn’t have been a Sabbath observer because she believes and worships wooden images as seen in her house.”

We Don’t Have Money To Import Food – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria no longer has money to import food owing to the impact of COVID-19 on the nation’s economy.

While speaking with journalists during the Eid celebrations at the statehouse on Sunday, the president described the impact of the virus as “frightening”.

He said the pandemic has affected both the developed and the developing countries.

“Nigerians can see that the COVID-19 has reduced us, both the developing and developed countries, to the same level,” he said.

“In fact, we have fewer casualties than they have. So, it’s a very frightening development.”

The president asked farmers to maximise the season of rainfall to increase food production.

“I hope the rainy season would be bountiful so that we can get a lot of food,” Buhari said.

“I wish the farmers will go to farms so that we can produce what we need in sufficient quantity so that we don’t have to import food.

“In any case, we don’t have any money to import food. So, we must produce what we are going to eat.”

He appealed to Nigerians to continue to observe the health precautions issued by the federal ministry of health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“I advise Nigerians to be very careful and take the advice of the Ministry of Health,“ he said.

“The ministers of health have been doing very well, speaking and educating the citizens on the deadly virus. So, we should be very careful.”

Biafra: We Are Not Bothered By Activities Of Saboteurs – Nnamdi Kanu

1

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday said he and his pro-Biafra group are not bothered by the activities of saboteurs and traitors working against the Biafra realization.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in a statement made available through IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said that to him and IPOB, the treachery and activities of such people are irrelevant, inconsequential, adding that their activities strengthen him and his group.

The IPOB leader also said the group will never build bridges with saboteurs and traitors, adding that those who sabotage the sacred project of IPOB, will be kicked out of the family forever.

He said, there is no forgiveness, no pardon, no pity, no diplomacy, no bridge-building with such traitors, adding that anyone kicked out of IPOB will remain out forever.

Mazi Kanu’s statement read, “We do not appeal or build bridges with saboteurs and traitors. To us they are as irrelevant and inconsequential as Yoro e-rats on N3,000 data stipend a week, their saboteur’s activities and treachery strengthens us.”

“If you sabotage the sacred project of IPOB you will be kicked out of the family, you will be shredded and destroyed and sometimes worse things will happen to you if we catch you.

“There is no forgiveness, no pardon, no pity, no diplomacy, no bridge-building. Once you are out, you are an outcast forever.

“Form as many useless pro-Biafra groups as you like with help of DSS or Ohaneze Ndi Oshi, gossip as much as you like with your multiple fake accounts, you will never be allowed back.

“We allow petty saboteurs to keep coming forward because it makes it easier for us to destroy them. “The more dangerous ones are those in our midst pretending but working for the enemy. Any IPOB appealing to online traitors to stop hating Kanu and IPOB is mentally weak.

“IPOB was forged in the heat of battle and purified in the furnace ceaseless confrontation for 8 years. Bridge-building with traitors is for the confused and unfocussed.

“We are IPOB, we conquer and subdue our enemies with overwhelming evidence and incontrovertible proof. We drown them in the pool of truth.

“We love trouble, enmity and confrontation because we believe and know that enemies within and without are good for us the same way a good immune system can only be built by the body confronting viruses and bacteria on a regular basis.

“We are arrogant yes! Because IPOB is the best there is in the whole world. An unarmed group that broke a country with nothing but the truth.

“If as a front line activist you mistakenly think that our love and praise of your work for Biafra means we are gullible and can be divided, then we show you who we are.

“Any day you step out of line, you are toast, we would sink you because many have died, imprisoned and tortured for this Biafra.

“We are like the Vulture, we have no friends, we have no enemies. We only love those that pursue Biafra in truth and honesty. Once you deviate, then its bye-bye, no matter who you think you are.”

Stop Wasting Time In Coronavirus Battle, China Tells US

0

The US should stop wasting time in its fight against the coronavirus and work with China to combat it, rather than spreading lies and attacking the country, the Chinese Government’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, said on Sunday.

The Sino-US ties have nosedived since the outbreak of the new coronavirus, with the administrations of President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping repeatedly trading barbs over issues related to the pandemic, especially the US accusations of cover-ups and lack of transparency.

The two top economies have also clashed over Hong Kong, human rights, trade, and US support for Chinese-claimed Taiwan.

State Councillor Wang, speaking at his annual news conference on the sidelines of China’s parliament, expressed his deep sympathies to the US for the pandemic, where the death toll is expected to surpass 100,000 in the coming days, the highest number of any country.

“Regretfully, in addition to the raging coronavirus, a political virus is also spreading in the US

“This political virus is using every opportunity to attack and smear China,’’ said Wang, who is also China’s Foreign Minister.

“Some politicians have ignored the most basic facts and concocted too many lies about China and plotted too many conspiracies.’’

“I want to say here: Don’t waste precious time any longer, and don’t ignore lives,’’ Wang said.

“What China and the US need to do the most is to first learn from each other and share their experience in fighting against the epidemic and help each country fight it.’’

China and the US also need to start coordinating macro policies for their respective economies and the world economy, he added.
