“Buhari Loves Amaechi Like His Son, Trusts Him Absolutely” – El-Rufai

1

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari loves and trusts Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation like his son.

ABN TV reports that El-Rufai said Buhari loves Amaechi despite opposition due to his great personality and selflessness to the service of Nigeria.

He disclosed that Buhari’s love for Amaechi was the reason he was picked as the Director-General of the presidential campaign twice.

The governor stated this in his birthday message to Amaechi and was contained in a statement signed by the Ministry of Transportation, NAN reports.

He described the former Rivers State governor as the First Minister in Nigeria’s history to hold the position of the Minister of Transportation twice.

El-Rufai insisted that Amaechi has achieved so much within the period due to his unique qualities of inclusiveness.

He said: “President Buhari loves Amaechi like a son, he trusts him absolutely, which is why in spite of all opposition, many attempts to put Amaechi in a bad light, he twice selected him to lead his campaign and also as the Minister of Transportation.”

El-Rufai stressed that Amaechi is a pan-Niger Deltan who loves teamwork and empowers people to do their best.

He added: “Amaechi’s key leadership quality is his sense of inclusion, he likes to bring everyone on board, he loves teamwork, he empowers people to put in their best, he doesn’t pretend to know it all or try to do everything.

“He is one of the few politicians from the Niger Delta that is Pan Nigeria.

“I think in the history of Nigeria there hasn’t been any Minister of Transportation that has been able to achieve the landmark Amaechi has achieved in very difficult circumstances.

“I am very proud of you, am very proud to be associated with you, I am a beneficiary of your friendship, your love and your generosity.

“You have helped me a lot in my campaign, you have raised money for me, you have given me ideas on how to be a better politician and I have learnt a lot from you.

“I am confident that if and when Nigeria is looking for a leader that will take us to a higher level, you will be up there on the frontline among those that will be counted,” El-Rufai said.

Recall that Buhari had felicitated with Amaechi on his 55th birthday.

The president had commended Amaechi for his result-oriented leadership style.

According to Buhari, the former governor’s leadership style has positively reflected on the people.

Buhari Turning A Blind Eye To Corruption Within His Administration – CDD

1

The Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD says President Muhammadu Buhari is turning blind eye to corruption within his administration.

In its five-year assessment report of the achievements and gaps in the anti-corruption programme of the president, the organisation said “malfeasance” by some presidential appointees are being overlooked.

Idayat Hassan, CDD director, said the assessment report showed that Buhari’s administration is also battling with declining fiscal transparency.

“In the first place, the five-year assessment situates anti-corruption as a signature issue around which President Buhari has built a personal political brand, making it the major plank on which he won the historic election of 2015,” the organisation said.

“In the area of achievements, the assessment makes the point about how the Buhari administration has worked to elevate the fight against corruption by placing as its top national policy priority.

“It further notes the empowerment of anti-corruption agencies, and the Buhari administration’s effort to free them up to pursue far-reaching investigations into political and bureaucratic corruption.

“The assessment equally notes that the President pushed through a few key financial management reforms, which have been critical in preventing opportunities for corruption to thrive.

“One of such reforms is the mandatory use of the Treasury Single Account, which has ended the lax and opaque system wherein government monies sat in disparate accounts, which made proper oversight impossible.

“Consequently, the assessment knocks the President for his tendency to condone corruption within his own administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

“In this regard, President Buhari gets the flak over accusations that he “consistently turned a blind eye to malfeasance by some of his own appointees and resisted independent oversight of Nigeria’s most scandal-ridden agencies.”

The CDD said the Buhari administration has failed to curb defence and security corruption.

“The assessment asserts that expenditures in the defence and security sector continue to escape public and legislative scrutiny, and mostly occur under emergency procurement processes that lack basic anti-corruption safeguards,” the organisation said.

“Another shortcoming identified by the Five Year Assessment is the failure of the government to achieve the required reforms in the petroleum sector.

“President Buhari who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, the assessment avers bears personal responsibility for his government’s failure to undertake basic, and long overdue, reforms to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).”

UPDATE: Kidnapped NTA Aba News Manager Regains Freedom

The Assistant Manager News and Current Affairs of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Channel 6 Aba, Mrs. Chinyere Okoye has been rescued.

Though information about her release was still sketchy, it was learnt that she regained her freedom on Friday morning.

Our reporter could not confirm if the family agreed to pay the ransom demanded by her captors.

Mrs. Okoye was said to have been released on Friday after operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police tactical units of Abia State Command of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) stormed the kidnapper’s den.

A source disclosed that Mrs. Okoye, after her release was taken to the SARS facility in Aba, where she was later joined by her family members and friends.

The source disclosed that the rescue operation was coordinated by the SARS Commander in the state, Johnbull Obioguru, and heads of other police tactical units.

According to the source, the police team acting on information stormed a compound in Mgboko, Obete in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state and cordoned off the area.

The source disclosed that the police team, after cordoning the place stormed the house where the kidnapped NTA staff was said to have been kept by her abductors.

It was gathered that upon raiding the said compound, Mrs. Okoye was rescued while the owner of the property where the NTA staff was kept was arrested.

The source who said that there was no exchange of firearms, stated that the kidnappers may have abandoned the woman in the compound as a result of the pressure coming from the security agents that were already closing upon them.

The NTA staff who is said to have been traumatized by the incident has since been reunited with her family.

“I Am A Bonafide APC Member” – Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

2

The frontline aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has dismissed claims that he is not a member of the party saying those disputing his membership of the party are only engaging in a fruitless exercise.

He was reacting to a statement credited to some persons who claimed to be Chairmen of the 18 LGAs of Edo state purportedly challenging his membership of the party on the grounds that it fell short of the party’s constitutional requirements.

In a statement signed by Mr John Mayaki, the Director of Communication and Media to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation said: “Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was one of those who not only formed the APC but drafted the constitution of the APC.

“It is quite unfortunate that many of these people don’t read; they have not sat down to even read the APC constitution.”

“The APC apart from being a progressive party was deliberately formed to be a mass organisation and one of the things those who drafted the APC constitution (including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu) did was to make it easy for Nigerians, irrespective of who they are, to be able to join the party like the APC without people like these renegades trying to put hurdles in their way – politics is a game of number. Ideally, you would want to welcome people to your party.”

“If you look at the constitution of the APC, article 9, you will find out that, unknown to them, you can go to your ward and register or you can even do online registration – the essence of this is to ensure that nobody is deprived.”

“When Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu among others were putting the party together, the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki was not there and nowhere to be found; so how do you expect a man who should be a beneficiary of a house that he helped to build be stopped from gaining access into the house?

“However, knowing the rules, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu went to his ward chairman, Mr Ogbebor in Ugboko ward in Orhiomwon to say himself among his teaming followers were coming back home, and he was given the party card.

The party chairman brought him a party card and the day he was declaring, he raised up his card and said ‘gentlemen, what I am doing is just a mere ceremony’ but the truth about it is that he has actually gone to his ward to register, he openly tendered his party card and they were shocked.”

“What these people don’t understand is that in the APC constitution, there is even an alternative – the online option and so, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu applied – nobody can quarrel with the online registration; he has the slip, the registration number, his name is on the portal of the party.

“Again, unknown to these renegades, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu does not really need to rely on that card because, with his online registration, nobody can challenge his membership of the party.

“What they are doing is an exercise in futility.”

“In Aba, our efforts at rebuilding broken infrastructure remains on course. We have rebuilt the first phase of Eziukwu Road, making it possible for our people to connect Eziukwu Road to Okigwe Road, something that has been impossible for several years. Work is ongoing at the adjoining Ojike and Milverton Roads, and they shall be ready in a short while. It is important to note that the Eziukwu Road project is designed to run all the way to Cemetery Road through the Market there. Our plan is to ensure that the entire stretch of Eziukwu Road is rebuilt to first-class standards.

“Work on Osusu Road has reached advanced stages and we make a commitment to complete it. I am also happy to announce to you that few days ago, we completed the first stage of the work on the Obikabia – Obikabia Road Project. Today, it is possible to drive smoothly from Obikabia Junction in Obingwa LGA all way down to Umuene Junction in Isiala Ngwa South LGA. This completed segment is over 30km and makes it easy to connect to the Enugu PH highway around Umuikaa Junction straight from the Ogbor Hill area. This road has opened up several rural and farming communities. The second phase of the project which will connect Umuene to Umuikaa Junction and Umuene to Obikabia or the Isiala Ngwa Junction will commence shortly.

“The Contractor that will handle the Okpu Umuobo- Mgboko Road has been mobilized with funds and he is expected to mobilize to the site shortly.

“Our flyover project, the Osisioma Interchange is fully on course and will be completed and commissioned this year for the use of our people” the statement read.

The Governor noted that work is ongoing on several other roads in Aba like Opobo Road, Immaculate Road, Aba Owerri Road, the Osisioma – NNPC Depot – Ekeakpara Road, most of which have major drainage components. This is in addition to several other road projects. Efforts have been intensified towards the maintenance of existing roads through the Zero Pothole Initiative.

He further reassured the residents of Aba that the 27.4 Billion Naira project for the reconstruction of Ngwa Road, Uratta Road, Port Harcourt Road, Obohia and Ohanku Roads will completely and permanently change the infrastructural landscape of the city for the better and asked for their cooperation with the contractors when they start the work in a few days.
