Good Governance: Senate Chief Whip Orji Kalu Pledges Support To Executive

0
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu

In order to entrench good governance, Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on Tuesday in Abuja pledged the support and cooperation of the Senate to the Executive and Judiciary arms of government for the overall good of all Nigerians.

According to the former Abia governor, a robust synergy at the highest level of governance was critical in solving many problems facing the country.

While insisting that the ninth National Assembly is a robust one, the lawmaker urged Nigerians to do away with notion that the Assembly is a rubber stamp to the Executive, insisting that infighting between the two arms will be inimical to the growth and progress of the Nigerian nation.

“The senate is not a rubber stamp, it is just that we have done things differently.

“There are many things the Presidency has sent to the senate that we rejected and we reject it at the level of leadership and send it back to him.

“There is no need to fight with the President because our job is to complement the efforts of the executive, to give them the chance to give Nigerians good governance.

“Our duty is not to fight, but if we want to fight, we join the Nigerian Army and carry the gun to fight.

“So, our duty is to make laws and ensure we stabilise the polity by ensuring there is a good relationship between the judiciary, executive and the legislature.

“The senate has been very successful in bringing the budget before December each year, this is the job of the legislature.

“We don’t want to enter into unnecessary controversies with the executive.

“We have fought many times with the executive, but quietly. People can call us any name, but I can speak out my mind to say we are not rubberstamp,’’ he stressed.

Kalu further said that achievements so far recorded by the senate was made possible due to the level of cooperation among the lawmakers, noting that there is no crisis in the senate.

According to him, in every 100, there must be people who are not happy, but we have no crisis in the senate.

“I have never been in the senate before but this senate is very cooperative and we are one family.

“Since I joined politics, I have never seen a family like the senate.

“The senate is one united family and I can testify to that.

“When I had my problem in the prison, a lot of my colleagues including the senate leadership showed a lot of compassion towards me.

“Every other senator tried, but Senators Sani Musa, Kashim Shettima and Ibikunle Amosun were exceptional.

“I am not talking about the Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan now, because that one is like my brother. So, the senate remains one united family”, Kalu emphasised.

While pledging his continued support to the leadership of the senate, Kalu said that Lawan is very strong and forthright in handling the senate.

Evelyn Joshua, wife of the Late Prophet Temitope Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) has finally addressed members, partners, and followers of the church across the world following her appointment as leader of the church.

ABN TV reports that following the demise of the renowned prophet on June 5, the church has been battling with a leadership crisis that halted worship activities in the ministry.

The alleged leadership tussle had led to the eviction of some disciples of the late prophet who hitherto antagonized the decision of Evelyn to lead the affairs of the Church.

However, The Federal High Court in Lagos State on Thursday, appointed Mrs Evelyn Joshua, as a trustee of the church.

Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the judgment on Thursday at the Lagos Judicial Division of the High Court in Ikoyi in line with the church’s constitution which allowed a minimum of three trustees for the church.

In her speech on Monday as the leader of the church, Mrs Evelyn noted that the journey has not been easy since the demise of her late husband.

She called for support and prayers from members and followers of the ministry to ensure that the church continues from where TB Joshua stopped.

Details of her speech:

“Emmanuel! God is with us. My name is Evelyn Joshua, I am pleased to address you at this moment upon my appointment as the lease of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

“To all our members, partners, friends, and compatriots in faith, I say good morning and win today. It has been three months since the glorious home call of our dear father founder and General Overseer, Senior Prophet, Temitope Balogun Joshua which occurred on the 5th of June 2021.

“These past three months have surely been challenging but we thank you all for been strong and for keeping the faith as we have been built, trained, and instructed by the servant of God that trials are the soil upon which faith flourishes.

“Today like others is a new dawn in the SCOAN. As we all know, Prophet TB Joshua fought a good fight of the kingdom and finished strong to the glory of God.

“We have now commenced the journey from where our father left. He had already prepared us all for this new phase and we must rise up to the occasion as a team under the command of God and the direction of the Holy Spirit. This journey is for us all, SCOAN cannot be without you – all the members, partners, and friends of the ministry

“This now serves as a clarion call for you all to rise as an army of God as we push this great commission forward. I am not your General Overseer, my dear husband and our father, the prophet of generations senior prophet TB Joshua remains the founder and General Overseer of SCOAN.

“Like my beloved husband used to say, let love lead. Today, I represent the symbol of that love even as he continues to reside by the right hand of his maker. I am only a servant who only by the direction of the Holy Spirit, will team up with you all to direct the affairs of this great ministry.

“We will work, pray, fight the fight of faith together win together so that we all can inherit the everlasting home together. I know that we all have missed the congregation of our brethren for the past one and a half years but let me assure you that as God leads, we shall all soon converge again and worship God together as a family. So watch out.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that I and the entire team need your prayers, support, encouragement and advice all at this time. The duty is much, the burden is heavy but we will all cast them onto Jesus who has already given us the promise of his help.

“I thank you once again for the love and support you have shown to this ministry and senior prophet TB Joshua for the past years but if there is anytime to show that love more, the time is now. Let me still assure you that God is always with us. Emmanuel”!

Founder Of South Korea’s Biggest Church, Cho Yong-gi, Dies At 85

0

South Korean Pastor David Yongi Cho, who used to have the largest church and congregation in the world has died at the age of 85.

Yongi Cho died on Tuesday.

With his mother-in-law Choi Ja-shil, he was a cofounder of the Yoido Full Gospel Church (Assemblies of God), the world’s largest congregation, with a claimed membership of 830,000 as of 2007.

Cho was born on February 14, 1936, in Ulju-gun, now part of Ulsan metropolitan city. The son of Cho Doo-chun and Kim Bok-sun, Cho was the eldest of five brothers and four sisters. He graduated from middle school with honours.

Because his father’s sock and glove business went bankrupt, he could not afford high school or university tuition. Subsequently, he enrolled in an inexpensive technical high school to learn a trade. At the same time, he began frequenting an American army base near his school, and learned English from soldiers whom he befriended.

He mastered English quickly, and became an interpreter for the commander of the army base, and also for the principal of his school.

Raised initially as a Buddhist, Cho converted to Christianity at the age of 17, after a beautiful girl visited him telling him about Jesus Christ, before he was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Sensing God calling him to the ministry, Cho began working as an interpreter for the American evangelist Ken Tize. In 1956, he received a scholarship to study theology at Full Gospel Bible College in Seoul. While there, he met Choi Ja-shil, who became his mother-in-law and a close ministerial associate. He graduated in March 1958.

Cho had spent more than 44 years emphasizing the importance of cell group ministry, which he believed was the key to church growth, as well as team ministry.

In November 1976, Cho founded Church Growth International, an organization dedicated to teaching the principles of evangelism and church growth to pastors all over the world. In January 1986, he led the way in establishing the Elim Welfare Town, a facility for the elderly, the young, the homeless, and the unemployed. The latter would be given training and a choice of four occupations.

In 1988, he founded newspaper company, Kukmin Ilbo. He was Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship from 1992 to 2000 and did not pursue another term, and has served as Chairman of the Korean Christian Leaders Association since November 1998. He had also served as Chairman of the Good People charity organization since February 1999.

In 2008, Cho retired, with Young Hoon Lee succeeding him as senior pastor.

Nigeria Has Become A Graveyard – South West PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West has said the incompetence of President Muhammadu Buhari has made Nigeria a graveyard.

The PDP South-West Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati stated this on Monday.

He lamented that the killers have now turned the heat on the military and other security agencies, leaving citizens helpless and hopeless.

He called on President Buhari to resign from office.

He said, “It is a gross incompetence on the part of the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress Federal Government that Nigeria has become a graveyard”

Atofarati added that “Between 2015 and now, more than 20,000 Nigerians have lost their lives to the inability of the government to protect the lives and property of its citizens, from the likes of Jihadist herdsmen, Boko Haram, bandits and highway kidnappers. It is safe to say that the APC government remains insensitive to the welfare of Nigerians, otherwise, by now Buhari should have voluntarily resigned to cry for help.

“A country where the agencies saddled with the responsibility of securing its citizens have suddenly become weak and incapacitated. A country where governors’ convoys are attacked at will, monarchs are kidnapped even under the president’s nose in his home state, a country where there is no war but mass burial weekly! It is high time Nigeria seeks foreign help to curb the insecurity lest we are all captured.”

EPL: Lukaku Tells Tuchel To Sign Two Players For Chelsea

0

Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku, has recommended his former Inter Milan teammates Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar to the club’s hierarchy, according to Sport Mediaset.

Thomas Tuchel tried to add a new centre-back this summer but the Blues failed to agree on a deal with Sevilla for Jules Kounde.

Chelsea believed they had a verbal agreement with Sevilla over the fee, but the LaLiga side increased that figure by €15million.

Tuchel remains keen to add a new centre-back and could now be looking at Bastoni and Skriniar.

His decision comes following a recommendation from Lukaku, who played with them both at Inter.

A deal for Bastoni would also be tricky, as the Italian international only signed a three-year contract extension in May.

Skriniar, meanwhile, will have just a year remaining on his current contract at the end of the season, which would reduce his asking price.
