Fashola Says FG Will Soon Commence Housing Allocation To Nigerians Online

0

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, has said that Federal Government houses nationwide would be allocated through online applications.

Fashola stated this in an interview with Journalists during his inspection of houses under the Federal Government housing project on Thursday, in Bauchi.

He said very soon the process of allocation would start through online applications by the beneficiaries.

“The process is going to be on an online platform, the form will be online and pay online, fill them, you don’t need to give anything under the table. It is first come first served, that is why it takes a little while.

“We also noticed some dampness and drainage issues in the completed houses. Our facility manager would address them and find a way of draining the water for the beneficiaries”, he said.

Fashola pointed out that the houses would be allocated to all Nigerians; everybody is entitled to own the house through the online application.

He said the Federal Government was committed and passionate about solving the nation’s housing deficit.

“The Federal Government is determined to provide houses to the public across all the states of the federation”, the minister added.

He said the first phase of the houses had been completed; the Federal Government would now focus on the second phase to bridge the deficit in housing.

The Minister noted that the housing projects provide jobs to the citizens and boost the economy of the people in the state, as all materials used are bought in the state.

He commended the Bauchi state government for all the necessary support and for providing the land for the construction of the houses.

Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji

Members of Abia State House of Assembly have invited the Executive Chairman, Umunneochi Local Government Area, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Homeland Security, and the Chairman of Lokpanta cattle market for interaction over the growing security concerns in the local government.

This follows a matter of urgent public importance raised during plenary at the floor of the Assembly on Wednesday by the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon Barr Okey Igwe.

The lawmaker said kidnappers, bandits and armed robbers have besieged his constituency, alleging that the matter has got so bad that his constituents now live in fear, requesting the House to intervene and help bring the ugly situation under control.

Hon Igwe also said that the perpetrators of the nefarious activities in Umunneochi now use Lokpanta cattle market as their den from where they unleash terror on innocent citizens.

He, therefore, urged the House to invite the Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area to come and explain to the House his challenges leading to the dwindling security situation at Lokpanta cattle market in particular and the Local Government in general.

In addition, he urged the House to mandate the Ministry of Homeland Security to liaise with the local vigilante groups in the area to help other security agencies present there.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji in his comment said the safety of lives and property of Abians is of paramount importance to the House.

He said the general security situation in the country is worrisome and as such, every government agency in the State must rise up to the occasion and make sure the State is kept free from hoodlums and invaders.

He, therefore, mandated the Clerk of the House to, as a matter of urgency, send a letter of invitation to the Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Chairman of Lokpanta cattle market for interaction with the Honourable Members on finding lasting solutions to the menace.

FG Set To Increase Trade Relations With Iran

0

The Federal Government has called for deepening of trade relations between Nigeria and the Islamic Republic of Iran as Iran considers direct shipping and flight to Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Geoffrey Onyeama, made the appeal on Thursday during a bilateral meeting with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja by the ministry.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both ministers had the meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.

Onyeama reminded the Iranian Foreign Minister that Nigeria and Iran have excellent relations, saying that Nigeria will be very happy under the cooperation and engagement of Amir-Abdollahian to improve even more, the relationship between both countries.

“We are two big countries in our respective sub-regions, but unfortunately, the level of trade is not what it should be. And we should do a lot more.

“And we were trying to also discuss on how this should not interrupt our trade and how we can also work together to improve that aspect of our trade,” Onyeama said.

In his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian said envoys of both countries, with a great deal of hard work and focus and in all seriousness, were pursuing the further development of the relationship between Nigeria and Iran.

He added that exchanges between both countries were testament to the fact that both countries were very serious, focused and motivated to improve relations.

“Mr Minister, as you do know, both countries have very high capacities for mutual cooperation.

“But as you said, the level of trade, collaboration and cooperation between our two countries is not at the satisfactory level, particularly when we look at the level of political cooperation that exists between the two nations.

“And of course, as you do know, Your Excellency, the private sector from both of our respective countries, are very keen on developing and progressing their ties with one another,” he said.

Amir-Abdollahian further said in order to realise the desired higher volume and commercial trade between both countries, Iran is seeking and studying how to best establish direct shipping route from Iran to Nigeria.

He said Iran had no issues or challenges whatsoever in completely removing any type of obstacle that may hamper the progress of trade between both countries.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also said in the beginning, Iran can do its very best where it is needed in order to remove or lessen any restricted duties that may exist.

Amir-Abdollahian added that subsequently, Iran is ready and very much willing to best analyse on how to go swiftly about the removal of such duties that exist between both countries.

Amir-Abdollahian disclosed that Iranian-based Mahan Airlines is fully willing, ready and capable to establish direct flights route from Tehran to Lagos.

He added that Iran stood ready and willing to swiftly review in depth, the previous agreements between both countries, activate them where possible and also establish as soon as possible, a joint economic commission in Tehran.

Why Buhari Showed Mercy To Fani-Kayode – Femi Adesina

0

Presidential Spokesperson, Femi Adesina has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari permitted Ex-aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode to return to the All progressives Congress, APC.

Adesina, in a lengthy article titled “Buhari, FFK and the Quality of Mercy”, made available to ABN TV on Thursday, stated that President Buhari was only displaying an ‘attribute of God’ which is Forgiveness.

He wrote: “Naturally, a lot of loyal APC members are hopping mad that FFK was readmitted into the party. And not only that, he got back at the highest level. Not at his ward in Ile-Ife, Osun State, but the triumphal entry was at the Presidential Villa, with President Buhari himself as the host.”

“I understand the umbrage taken against the development by teeming APC supporters. It’s the natural thing to do. But then, having vented spleen, raised dust and almost brought down the roof, the next thing is to isolate the issues dispassionately. With the bile displayed towards President Buhari and his family over the years, how did the man find the grace to have received FFK? How was he convinced? Who did the convincing? What were the extenuating factors? How? When? Why?”

“By agreeing to the readmission of FFK to APC as the leader of the party, and hosting him at the Villa, President Buhari displayed amazing capacity to forgive, to show mercy, and let bygones be bygones. How many of us can do that? Not many.”

“Remember William Shakespeare in Merchant of Venice:
“The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blessed him that gives and him that takes…
It is an attribute of God Himself.”

“That was what Buhari did to FFK. He showed him mercy, dropping like gentle rain from heaven, when he could have otherwise spat into the sky, collecting the spittle with his own face. Was that not what me and you would have done? Confess. We would have told FFK to go to hell, and stay there. But Buhari didn’t. He displayed an attribute of God: forgiveness.”

President Buhari Has Forgiven FFK – Femi Adesina

0

Presidential media aide, Femi Adesina has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has forgiven ex-aviation minister and a fierce critic of his administration, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Adesina in an article on Thursday made available to ABN TV, called on APC members to sheathe their swords and accept FFK into the party fully.

He wrote; “Not a small ruckus has been caused by the defection of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK), from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week.”

“An icing on the cake, or the salt added to injury (depending on which side you are), was his reception at the Presidential Villa by Muhammadu Buhari, father of the nation. The development has been rocking the polity for many days.”

“FFK is by no means a miscellaneous personality, and whatever he does, or does not do, attracts loads of attention.”

“He was a founding member of the APC, before he ported back to the PDP. And he did not leave quietly. He ruffled feathers and stirred up the mud. He became a rabid hater of his former party and its members.
Between last week and now, vitriol poured by FFK on anybody with the slightest affinity to APC has been dug up serially. He has said things straight from the gutters, things that the natural man would call unforgivable and unpardonable. Against President Buhari, the first family, Yusuf Buhari whom he wished had died when the latter had an almost fatal bike accident, APC as a party, the government, leaders of the party, groups and individuals. Even this writer has suffered horrid descriptions from FFK in many write-ups.”

“Yes, he even said he would rather die than return to APC, but last week, he returned—well and alive. Naturally, a lot of loyal APC members are hopping mad that FFK was readmitted into the party.

How? When? Why?”

By agreeing to the readmission of FFK to APC as the leader of the party, and hosting him at the Villa, President “Buhari displayed amazing capacity to forgive, to show mercy, and let bygones be bygones.

“One of the lies that had been serially told against the President was his alleged unforgiving spirit, a falsehood sold to Nigerians by anti-Buhari forces since the days of military rule. The lie traveled for so long, till it was eventually overtaken by the truth in one day. Nigerians saw through the facade, and elected Buhari as President in 2015. Re-elected him with wider margin in 2019.”

“I have worked with the President for over six years. And I have seen amazing things in terms of accommodation and capacity to forgive. I have visited him at home many times in the evenings, only to find at dinner table with him people who had been abusing his forefathers on television earlier in the day.”

“This President has a capacity to forgive, and forget. And make peace. That was what he displayed in the case of FFK. Nothing short of divine attribute, which me and you should covet and seek to approximate.”

“True, the brother of the prodigal son in the Good Book was unhappy, after his sibling had engaged in riotous living, squandered his inheritance, and came back home in penury. And the father received him with glee, and slaughtered the fatted calf in celebration.”

“The brother was indignant. He accused the father of bad faith, saying he had remained faithful and loyal, and not once did the father give him a goat to kill, and make merry with his friends. That is the case of the APC members who have been unhappy at the reception given FFK. He did not deserve it, they claim. True. But how many things don’t we deserve, but which eventually come our way? That is the inscrutable nature of God, and we should not begrudge ourselves, or anybody else. How many things have come your way, which you really don’t deserve? But God gave those things to you, nevertheless. Same with FFK.”

“I think those screaming blue murder and lamenting the injustice and unfairness of it all should hold their peace. They have made their points, and should let things be. Enough! FFK is back, let sleeping dogs lie. He may stay this time round, as he claims to have had a Damascus road experience, which turned Saul to Paul.
Many times, FFK has used unprintable words against me. He has deployed phrases from the nether region against me. But after writing those things, and we met in public places, he would embrace me, calling me his “friend and brother.” I agree, we are brothers, though I should hold giant sized grudges against him. President Buhari has shown us the way . To err is human, to forgive, divine.”

“And come to think of it. Is it pleasant to swallow one’s vomit? Nah. But that was what FFK did. All those foul words against the President, the APC, the government, many people in government. He has swallowed them. Delicious? By no means. Pueh! You would feel like retching. So, let’s salute the courage of his conviction. It is rare, and not many people would do it.”

“I welcome FFK back to APC. And I pray it is for an enduring time. I thank President Buhari for showing an astounding large heart. That’s how to be a father. He has confounded all those who peddle lies about him, and the balderdash about not forgiving.”

“The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven. It has dropped upon FFK. May it always drop on us, for “it blesses him that gives, and him that takes.” Amen, somebody!.”

ISWAP Terrorists Attack Babangida Town In Yobe

0

A large column of ISWAP insurgents is currently attacking Babangida town in Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, according to HumAngle.

Located about 42 km from Damaturu, the state capital, Babangida had also been attacked in August 2021.

ISWAP is a militant group and the administrative division of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a Salafi jihadist militant group and unrecognised proto-state.

The terrorist group is primarily active in the Chad Basin, and fights an extensive insurgency against the states of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. It is a offshoot of Boko Haram with whom it has developed a violent rivalry, killing Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in 2021.

In addition, ISWAP is formally the umbrella organization for all ISIL factions in West Africa; the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (IS-GS) is thus formally part of ISWAP, although the actual ties between ISWAP and IS-GS are limited.

Nigerian Army Reacts To Trending Video Of Soldier Dehumanizing Female Corper

The Nigerian Army (NA) says it has taken cognizance of a video clip currently making the rounds on social media, where a commissioned female officer, Lt. Chika Viola Anele was videoed dehumanising a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ezeiruaku Ifeyinwa Fidelia. Fidelia was serving at 13 Brigade Headquarters in Calabar, Cross River State. The harassment happened after an argument between the duo.

The Army in a statement on Thursday by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, its Director Public Relations, condemned the “unprofessional” act and stated that it is “against established precepts of discipline in the NA”. Apologetic Nigerian Army also noted that Lt. Anele has been sanctioned.

The Nigerian Army’s statement reads: “The NA therefore, condemns in strong terms, this act of gross misconduct. Undoubtedly, the officer’s actions has caused the NA monumental embarrassment and is highly regrettable. This unfortunate act of indiscipline does not in anyway represent the NA and will not be condoned in its entirety.

“For the records, the ugly incident happened in 13 Brigade, Calabar. The Brigade Commander immediately instituted an investigation and the officer involved has been identified and sanctioned on the interim and would be made to undergo regimental orders (trial) in line with the extant provisions of the Armed Forces Act. The submission that the Brigade attempted covering up was therefore misleading, as the NA remains a professional force that has zero tolerance for indiscipline amongst its personnel.

“The NA wishes to reiterate and assure the general public that such infractions would not be tolerated from its personnel. The NA also reassures that the rights of the citizenry is sacrosanct and must be respected by all personnel of the NA, as any form of infraction will be severely dealt with.”

“Therefore, the general public is enjoined to continue to report such infractions, as Human Rights Desks in all formations of the NA are emplaced to deal decisively with such erring personnel.”

“The NA further wishes to tender unreserved apology to the victim, her family members, friends, National Youth Service Corps and to Nigerians in general for the unwholesome treatment meted out to the Corps member.”

When contacted, 13th Brigade spokesperson, Tope Aluko, told The Nation: “Please I’m in a meeting, I will call you back.”

But she was yet to get back as at the time of filing this report.

A NYSC staff, who spoke on condition on anonymity, confirmed the incident noting that the State Coordinator of NYSC Zemoh Andrew has been on the matter with the leadership of the 13th brigade.

The NYSC State Coordinator did not respond to calls and text messages send to his phone on the matter.

No Going Back On Mega Protest At UN Headquarters – Yoruba Nation, Others Vow

0

Self-determination agitators operating on the platform of Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination (NINAS) have vowed to go ahead with the grand finale of its one-million-man freedom march at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the United States on Friday.

The grand finale of the march coincides with the ongoing UN Assembly where President, Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to address the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Akintoye in a statement, on Thursday, made available to The Nation by NINAS Director of Communications, Maxwell Adeleye, accused the Federal Government of sponsoring a counter-protest at the United Nations Headquarters tomorrow.

He alleged that the Nigerian Government has started hiring black foreigners living in the United States of America with $500 per head to stage a Pro-Buhari and One Nigeria March opposite the United Nations Headquarters.

Akintoye vowed that the will of the people would prevail no matter how the Federal Government tries to scuttle the NINAS Grand Finale March.

Apart from Akintoye, the Secretary-General, Tony Nnadi, who represents the Lower Niger Congress and Prof. Yusuf Turaki, who represent the Middle-Belt Movement at NINAS have also jointly called on the UN to take urgent step to prevent Nigeria from descending into chaos.

NINAS, which described the 1999 Constitution as a fraud against the people of South and Middle-Belt, having been “enacted without the consent of the people,” demanded the conduct of a regional referendum so that the indigenous people can decide on their nationhood, among others.

All the indigenous people of the South and Middle-Belt in the United States and Canada have been urged to troop out in large number tomorrow.
