BBNaija Season 6 Cost N4.3bn – Organisers

The organizers of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) has come out to tell the fans of the show how much it costs to host this season edition.

Speaking on Monday at the winner prize presentation, Nigeria DSTV CEO, John Ugbe revealed that the ‘Shine Ya Eye’ Season cost N4.3 billion to make the show happen.

He said, “We employed 12,000 persons for this show, it cost us N4,3billion to air this show this year.

“We use BBNaija to enrich lives and contribute positively to society. We hope to continue to do so.”

He further revealed that one billion votes were recorded this year from the viewers.

It could be recalled that the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu had also announced that during the finale week, the show had over 300 million votes.

JOHESU Postpones Strike, Meets FG Wednesday

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) has said they have reviewed the ultimatum for a strike scheduled to begin by Monday midnight following the outcome of their meeting with the Federal Government on Wednesday.

A letter signed by Com. Biobelemoye Josiah, National Chairman, JOHESU which was addressed to Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, said, it reached the decision for the postponement after due consultation of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The letter partly reads, “We find it imperative to intimate your office of the fundamental resolution adopted at the expanded NEC meeting of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) which reviewed the ultimatum for a strike action expected to commence by midnight of Monday, October 4, 2021.

“After our usual very critical appraisal during consultations and meetings, the NEC resolved to put on hold the strike action. This decision was hinged on the forthcoming engagement with the Federal Government on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.”

The union said that the leadership of JOHESU reasoned that the meeting with the Federal Government would be conducive for an update on developments with regards to the major demands of JOHESU especially in the area of adjustment of CONHESS as it was done with CONMESS.

They also said that the meeting would be an opportunity to show evidence-based data of the circularisation of the redress of all highlighted service delivery challenges peculiar to members of JOHESU.

The letter further reads, “In a bid to avoid an endless circus show, the leadership of JOHESU needs to make it unambiguously clear that the meeting with the Federal Government on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, will be the ultimate litmus test to evaluate the seriousness of the Federal Government to resolve once and for all, the tortuous subject matter of adjustment of CONHESS which has lingered since January 2, 2014 (almost 8 years) now and also determine the depth of industrial harmony in the Health Sector.

“Finally, Honourable Minister, the JOHESU family appreciates some of the gains in our current negotiations but has resolved albeit very strongly, that the Federal Government must show more commitment in reasonable time to ward off the reality of a strike we have continued to maturely and consistently refuse to embrace in the public interest.

“It is, therefore, necessary to encourage the Minister to catalyse the efforts of the Federal Government that is geared to permanently ameliorate the demands of JOHESU, particularly the High-Level Body.

“We wish the Hon. Minister and other key players in the Federal Government team well as we tackle these seemingly unending challenges,” the letter prayed.

The letter titled, Re: Commencement of indefinite strike by members of JOHESU was copied to key Federal Government agencies, parastatals, and offices of the National Assembly.

These include the Secretary to the Government; President of the Senate; Speaker, House of Representative; Minister of State for Health; Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Director-General, Department of State Service.

Others are the Inspector General of Police; Nigeria Governors’ Forum; Chairman, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission; President, President, Nigeria Labour Congress and President, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Abuja.

Facebook Domain Allegedly Stolen

Facebook services spanning Whatsapp, Instagram, and Facebook itself have been shut down following an attempt to hijack the company’s domain name.

There has been a widely reported inability to access the services since Monday afternoon after a yet to be identified hacker nuked the DNS A; an address file that holds an IP address of the domain name and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp.

Earlier the company had tweeted about WhatsApp, saying, “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.”

The main domain of Facebook company: Facebook.com is now available for purchase.

Details of the hack are yet to unravel.

Data Of 1.5 Billion Facebook Users On Sale At Hacker Forum

Amid global outage of Facebook along with its associated platforms, the data of its over 1.5 Billion users are now being sold in the dark web.

A report said the data are being sold on a Hacker Forum.

Sputnik News reported that in late September, an announcement was posted on a hacking forum that claimed to have the name, email, phone number, location, gender, and user ID of 1.5 billion Facebook users. Checkout original leak report here.

“One prospective buyer has allegedly been quoted at $5,000 per 1 million Facebook accounts.

“This would value the entire set of Facebook user data at $7.5 million.

“In a subsequent post, the seller alleges to represented a large company that works to scrape Facebook for data”.

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp went offline Monday evening, Nigerian time.

Facebook Inc said it was working to restore the platforms.

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products.

“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience”, Facebook said on Twitter.

Instagram also issued an apology:

“Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it!”

WhatsApp couched its apology in similar words like Facebook:

“We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.

“Thanks for your patience!’.

Stock slide knocks his net worth down to $120.9 billion

Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth has fallen by nearly $7 billion in a few hours, knocking him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people, after a whistleblower came forward and outages took Facebook Inc.’s flagship products offline.

A selloff sent the social-media giant’s stock plummeting around 5% on Monday, adding to a drop of about 15% since mid-September.

The stock slide on Monday sent Zuckerberg’s worth down to $120.9 billion, dropping him below Bill Gates to No. 5 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He’s lost about $19 billion of wealth since Sept. 13, when he was worth nearly $140 billion, according to the index.

On Sept. 13, the Wall Street Journal began publishing a series of stories based on a cache of internal documents, revealing that Facebook knew about a wide range of problems with its products — such as Instagram’s harm to teenage girls’ mental health and misinformation about the Jan. 6 Capitol riots — while downplaying the issues in public. The reports have drawn the attention of government officials, and on Monday, the whistleblower revealed herself.

In response, Facebook has emphasized that the issues facing its products, including political polarization, are complex and not caused by technology alone.

“I think it gives people comfort to assume that there must be a technological or a technical explanation for the issues of political polarization in the United States,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, told CNN.

Night Travel Now Unsafe For Road Users, FRSC Warns

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says night travel is unsafe for motorists and commuters, especially now that most roads are in a deplorable state and insecurity on the increase.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Solomon Agure, made the assertions in a statement on Monday in Lokoja.

Agure said that no good road experience could come out of speeding, overloading, use of phone while driving, use of mechanically deficient vehicles, failure to use seat belt, and safety crash helmet.

He urged motorists to avoid running foul of traffic rules to avoid crashes.

According to him, drivers should guide against violating the stated infractions and other anti-safety vices.

He said that the corps would be on the look out to enforce strict compliance to safety laws and orders on the highways.

Agure said arrangements had been made for the commencement of 2021’s Ember Months and Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Campaign in Kogi.

He said that the campaign would be carried out under the theme: “Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels And Enjoy Quality Road Experience”.

Agure said there would be high visibility of the corps on the roads across the state toward achieving the goals of the operation from now till middle of January, 2022.

He said that the command was planning to deploy over 800 personnel, 20 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, and heavy tow trucks for control of traffic.

“It aims at ensuring route lining, clear obstruction, and respond to distress calls for all to have maximum road use experience during and after the period,” he said.

Two Convicted For Bitcoin Scam In Kaduna

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today October 4, 2021 secured the conviction and sentencing of one Anthony Celestine on a one count charge of possession of fraudulent document before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna.

The charge reads, “that you Anthony Celestine, on or about the 22nd of May, 2021 in Kaduna within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court and with intent to defraud, had in your possession fraudulent documents which you intended to use for the purpose of soliciting for investment in Bitcoin from the unsuspecting members of the public and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 349 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017 and punishable under the same Law”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. In view of his guilty plea, the prosecution counsel, M.O Arumemi urged the court to enter the terms of a plea bargain agreement as the judgment of the court.

Justice Khobo, consequently convicted and sentenced the defendant to a fine of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000.00). The defendant will serve 3 years imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The defendant, is also to forfeit an iPhone 11 Pro Max which he used in perpetrating the crime to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Trouble started for Anthony when he was arrested in a sting operation by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC. Intelligence indicated that the defendant and one other approached one Zubairu Umar, a car dealer for the purchase of a Mercedes Benz worth N2, 800,000.00 and insisted on cash payment which aroused the suspicion of the car dealer.

Several fraudulent documents, including one which indicated that he collected $100USD from a foreigner, were recovered from the defendant.

In a similar development Justice Khobo also convicted and sentenced one Daniel Joseph (aka Bruce Wilkins) on one count amended charge bordering on impersonation.

The charge reads: “That you Daniel Joseph(aka Bruce Wilkins) on or about the 22nd of May, 2021 in Kaduna State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court and with intent to defraud, fraudulently impersonated one Bruce Wilkins (a foreign national) via your Facebook Account Bruce Wilkins which you used in soliciting members of the public to invest in Bitcoins and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017 and punishable under the same Law”.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Justice Khobo, consequently convicted and sentenced the defendant to a fine of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150, 000.00). The defendant will serve 3 years imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The defendant is also to forfeit his iPhone 12 Pro Max which he used in perpetrating the crime and the sum of One Million Naira (N1, 000,000.00) recovered from him to the Federal Republic of Nigeria

EFCC Arrests Man For Allegedly Defrauding Chinese National Of N82.8m

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Abraham Adeniji for allegedly obtaining goods under false pretence and diversion of funds to the tune of N82, 803,550.00.

He was arrested following a petition received by the Commission from one Gao Shu Quin, a Chinese national.

The petitioner alleged that she met the suspect sometime in 2017, while doing her legitimate business.

She further alleged that the suspect deceived her into supplying him containers of textiles materials, believing he would remit the proceeds upon sale of the textile materials.

However, the suspect allegedly diverted the proceeds for personal use after sale.

The suspect will soon be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger And WhatsApp Currently Down For Everyone

Facebook-owned services, WhatsApp and Instagram, are down on Monday, leaving some three billion online users frustrated and unable to connect all over the world.

The social tools including Facebook’s own Messenger service were first reported as not being available from 04:25pm on Monday.

Users visiting the social platforms owned by Silicon Valley guru Mark Zuckerberg are confronted with error messages.

On Twitter, @WhatsApp wrote, “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment.

“We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.

“Thanks for your patience!”

@Facebook tweeted, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Also, @InstagramComms wrote on Twitter, “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown.”

The Facebook-owned apps, which have some three billion users worldwide, report occasional outages in March 2021 and July 2020, which often spark an array of comments on other social platforms.

Since the suspension of microblogging site Twitter by the Federal Government of Nigeria in June 2021, Nigerians have relied heavily on Facebook-owned platforms for social interactions while a few others continue to tweet, circumventing the ban using Virtual Private Networks.

Nigeria had about 33 million active social media users as of January 2021. WhatsApp is the most popular platform used in the country, with over 90 million users, according to Statista.

About 61.4 per cent of Nigerian social media users use Twitter, 86.2 per cent use Facebook, 81.6 per cent use YouTube, 73.1 per cent use Instagram, and 67.2 per cent use Facebook Messenger.
