He describes the Governor as a peace-loving man and embodiment of loyalty who has demonstrated commitment to unity, peace, and oneness of the state.

NDLEA Seizes 2m Kg Ff Hard Drugs In Nine Months – Buba Marwa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized not less than two million kilograms of cocaine, heroin, other hard drugs and substances in the past nine months of 2021.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York that there was no longer a “hiding place for drug traffickers” in Nigeria.

The NDLEA chief was in New York to address the Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Marwa said Nigeria had achieved a lot in the war against drug abuse as NDLEA had moved towards the seizure of assets of persons involved and prosecuting them within the limit of human rights.

He said every kilogramme seized was one kilogramme less on the streets, pointing out that drug abuse in Nigeria had been one of the most worrisome problems in recent times.

“As you know, the prevalence in Nigeria is three times the global average.

“Almost 14.4 percent of Nigerians within the ages of 15 and 64 will use drugs.

“Not only has this destroyed our youths, it is affecting families, communities, and the society,” he said.

According to him, drug abuse is the key factor that propels crime in Nigeria and the administration of President Muhammad Buhari is tackling the problem.

“President has just signed the National Drug Control Master Plan 2021-2025. It was collaborative efforts between UN Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) funded by the EU.

“Also, War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) was inaugurated on June 26, 2021 and through it, NDLEA has been implementing the president’s mandate to fight drug abuse and trafficking in the country.

“We have been very active and offensive-oriented in launching actions across the length and breadth of the country to seize all the pieces of substances whether in home, highways, forests, business premises, factories, everywhere.

“Through the launch of WADA, we are setting structure in every single community in the country to help the WADA committee from the community level to the national level,’’ he added.

Marwa said he chaired the Inter-Ministerial Committee of WADA comprising of 36 Ministries, Departments and Agencies while stakeholders had been stepping up advocacy towards the consumers.

He said NDLEA had been partnering with relevant agencies in its fight against drug abuse, urging parents to rise up to the challenge of sensitizing their children against the danger of drug abuse.

“The school system should pay attention and take advantage of the curriculum to teach against the use of drugs; communities are also encouraged. We are also involving the traditional institutions, religious institutions.

“We are engaging the media in advocacy and through our commands, we do counselling; we have counselled over a thousand users.

“We encourage those who need help to come forward to be counselled and be treated as the case may be,” he added.

Marwa said the agency had been working closely with the Ministry of Health, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and with some foreign partners.

“NDLEA is an intelligent organisation. We work based on intelligence to get at those criminals into trafficking substances.

“We are in the process of ratcheting our activities against cannabis because cannabis users form the bulk, about 70 per cent of those use drugs in the country.

“We have in Nigeria alone 10.6.million users of cannabis users, which is by itself the population of some African countries, if you should look at that’’ he said.

NAN reports that Marwa had earlier told the Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Committee of the UN General Assembly that NDLEA had arrested no fewer than 8,634 suspected drug traffickers from January to August 2021.

He also informed the committee that NDLEA also made seizures of more than 100 billion naira in drugs and cash over the eight-month period.

“Against the backdrop of the strong linkage between illicit drug consumption and insecurity, it is worthy of note that Nigeria made its first seizure of 74.119 kg of Captagon brand of amphetamine.

“The Captagon is presumably destined for use, to fuel insurgency and other violent crimes and criminalities, which Nigeria is currently grappling with,’’ he said.

BREAKING: Court Orders Immigration To Return Ex-Gov Odili’s Seized Passport

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and its Comptroller-General to return the international passport seized from a former Rivers Governor, Peter Odili to him.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order on Monday in a judgment on a fundamental rights enforcement suit by Odili.

Justice Ekwo declared the seizure of Odili’s passport as unconstitutional.

The NIS had, while justifying its action, claimed to have seized the passport upon a request to that effect by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the grounds that Odili was on its watch list.

I Won’t Withdraw From Court – Uche Secondus

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, says he has no intention of withdrawing the case challenging his removal from court.

His media adviser, Mr Ike Abonyi, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

Abonyi said that Secondus was in court to seek justice as well as save the party from manipulations.

“The attention of the media office of Secondus has been drawn to an unsubstantiated report claiming that he is under pressure to withdraw his case against the party from court.

“The truth which the said news did not state is that Secondus is not in court against the party, but was taken to court by persons bent on hijacking the soul of the party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the media office wishes to restate that Secondus is really under pressure for justice and will seek it anywhere to save the party from destruction,” he said.

Abonyi said that the party leaders were aware of the situation and knew what to do to rectify the problem.

“Nothing short of justice will save PDP from the current situation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the justice Secondus is seeking is as enshrined in the party’s constitution, which is supreme.

“The constitution states clearly how a national chairman and any national officer can be sanctioned even where there is a known breach, talk less of where there is none,” he said.

NYSC Deploys 1,300 Corps Members To Gombe State

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed 1,300 corps members to Gombe State for the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 orientation exercise.

This is contained in a statement by Ms Margaret Dakama, the scheme’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), in Gombe on Monday.

Dakama said the orientation for the prospective corps members was expected to commence from October 20 to November 9, 2021.

She said that the registration would be conducted between October 20 and October 24, hence all prospective corps members were expected to report to the camp for registration.

She said that the corps members were expected to report for orientation at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp in Amada community, Gombe State.

The NYSC spokesperson urged the corps members to adhere strictly to all COVID-19 protocols before, during and after the orientation exercise.

Dakama said that the scheme had put in place necessary measures at the camp to ensure the safety of corps members, including the proper and regular use of face masks during the exercise.

She added that there would be a compulsory PCR test for COVID-19 for all prospective corps members and camp officials before they would be allowed access into the orientation camp.

According to her, the scheme is collaborating with state Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure the safety of everyone in line with the scheme’s extant guidelines on COVID-19 safety protocols.

“As part of measures to eliminate road traffic injuries and loss of lives, corps members are enjoined to avoid night journeys and boarding of vehicles by the road side.

“We are giving the advice because the safety of corps members is the priority of NYSC management. Kindly help us to keep you safe,” Imoni was quoted as saying in the statement.

Chukwueze Returns To Action For Villarreal After Five Months

Samuel Chukwueze made his return to action from injury but ended on the losing side as Villarreal lost 2-1 to Osasuna in Sunday’s LaLiga game.

Chukwueze has been out of action since May, after suffering an injury to the anterior rectus of his left leg in the second leg of Villarreal’s Europa League semi-final clash against Arsenal.

He eventually made his long awaited return after coming on with 12 minutes left in the game.

Lai Mohammed Can’t Win Election In Kwara, Lagos Is His Home – Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has stated that Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has no political significance in his ward in the North Central state.

In an interview with ThisDay, the Governor, who has been having issues with Lai Mohammed, debunked the Minister’s claim of raising a significant portion of the cash for the state’s 2019 elections, which the APC won by a landslide.

Abdulrazaq alleged that Lai Mohammed has been keeping some of the funds hidden from him and residing in Abuja during the election without knowing what was going on in Kwara.

He said;

“Everything that was donated, Lai Mohammed did not declare to the party, or to me. Some were direct donations to me.

“Some were sent to Kwara APC but there’s no governor, no minister. He was sitting there in Abuja, he did not know how we held the election.

“He did not know how we campaigned. He was in Abuja. Ask Minister Lai Mohammed, how many times he comes to Kwara? Our two ministers don’t come to Kwara. They are in Abuja. Both of them. Lai goes to Lagos. That’s his home.

“That’s where his son is a member of the Lagos state house of assembly. That’s where his family is. He has no house here. He doesn’t come here. As our minister, he doesn’t come home. Same with Gbemi Saraki. She doesn’t come. So it’s like we don’t have a minister.

“That’s why the pressure is on the governor. In other states, you have ministers relieving that pressure. Everything coming to the state, they stay in Abuja and hijack it. They are running from one ministry to the other to try and hijack things from Abuja. In terms of resources, they just took everything.”

He further said that Lai Mohammed is simply interested in making noise in the media and has no lobbying power in his ward. All members of the state house of assembly, with the exception of one, are on his side, according to the Kwara state governor.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq added;

 “They’re noisy in the media, not on ground. Lai cannot win an election in his ward. They’re good with social media noise. That’s all they do. But nobody’s asking how each member of the state assembly emerged. How did they manipulate their way to win their seats?

“There was no godfather, putting people in place, everybody struggled to emerge. We would network and work with each other. No godfather. Everybody struggled in their own way. Yes, I gave money, and they also sourced money for themselves.

“So everybody struggled to win this thing. But some people will sit down and say that it is their party. It is this or that, that I don’t have anybody. If I don’t have anybody, I have all the legislators with me. Is that not something? Let them tell me, they have people.

“How many legislators do they have both in the state and national assembly on their side? It’s just a whole lot of media hype. Lai came a few months ago to make noise that he sponsored the campaign, did this and that. He made a lot of noise and pushed it to NTA.”

We’re Laughing At You, IPOB Replies Police For Saying They’ll Come To Anambra Election With 33,000 Personnel, 8 Helicopters

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday, rejected dialogue with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, warning it not to drag its name into the November 6, 2021 Anambra State governorship election.

The pro-Biafra group also described as laughable, the statement by the Nigerian Police that it is coming to Anambra State for the November 6, 2021 governorship election with 33,000 personnel and eight helicopters, saying that the implication of that statement by the Police is that they (Police) do not want the election to hold that day.

IPOB also said that it is an insult for it to dialogue with INEC, when it cannot dialogue with Nigeria as a country and its government, saying that as far as IPOB exists, it does not recognize the existence of INEC.

The separatist group in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, categorically stated that it has no interest in Anambra State governorship election and as such, will not entertain any dialogue being planned by INEC.

IPOB statement read in part: “Following the statement from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that it is coming to negotiate or dialogue with IPOB, over the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, we, the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to reiterate once again that we have no business with INEC.

“IPOB family worldwide does not know whether or not INEC exists. We have nothing to do with the election INEC is conducting and we wonder why INEC would want to drag us into the election.

“INEC should face what is facing it and leave IPOB alone. We did not dialogue with Nigerian government let alone INEC, an agency of the clueless government of Nigeria. It is an insult coming from a body known for fraudulently imposing and installing electoral criminals on the people.

“We found laughable the declaration by the Nigeria Police that they are coming to Anambra State governorship election on the 6th of November with 33,000 personnel and eight helicopters to kill Igbo citizens on that day.

“This statement from the Police IGP, shows how prepared they are to kill our people and also a clear indication that Nigeria Police and the cabal do not want the election in Anambra State to hold.

“We also want to place on record that the plan by the Nigeria Police to deploy over 33,000 policemen and three helicopters, among others to Anambra State for the November 6 governorship election is another ploy to kill more innocent Biafrans.

“This confirms our fears and earlier intelligence that the security agents have perfected plans to use the election to force more Biafra youths to their early graves.

“We therefore, wish to advise Biafrans in Anambra State to be very cautious of this wicked plot and not play into their hands.”
