Hon Donatus Nwankpa, outgoing Chairman of the Abia State Caretaker Executive Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has insisted that the recently concluded state congress of the party held last Saturday in the state produced only Hon. Acho Obioma as his successor.

He advised aggrieved members accusing the party leadership of compromising the delegates through falsification of results during the congress to manage their frustration with decorum to avoid suffering from flashbacks, reminding them that restraint is the greater part of might.

Nwankpa, who stated this at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the state congress held at Umuahia Township Stadium, also maintained that despite the faction created in Abia APC by the national leadership of the party, the exercise went ahead, stressing that justice would prevail as he has not taken over the position of the national chairman of the party, insisting that since that was the case, no one can take over his seat even as the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in the state.

He said as long he remained the state chairman of the party, and until he hands over, he acted within the ambit of the constitution of the party and the responsibilities of his office including the law and expectations of his party members, advising aggrieved members who feel shortchanged at the outcome of the congress to approach the court.

Asked on which of the two groups should be adorned, the outgoing APC chairman, further insisted that there is no alternate group in the Abia chapter of the party, pointing out that the newly elected chairman of the party in the state remains Acho Obioma, who was a former member of the House of Representatives.

Nwankpa further said that he was bequeathing a strong APC to the newly elected executive committee, saying that “for me to conduct a transparent congress that produced a chairman of such pedigree, shows that I mean well for the party in the state”.

Continuing, he said, “While as chairman, the president was elected back to back, Senator, House of Representatives Member and House of Assembly member. The only one left is Governor which I have faith in Hon. Acho Obioma, that come 2023, there will be governor of Abia elected on the platform of the APC”.

Man City Place £67m Price Tag On Sterling Amid Barca Interest

0

Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly placed an £67million price tag on Raheem Sterling amid interest from Barcelona.

The LaLiga giants are desperate to improve their forward line either in the January window or next summer and have placed Sterling on their shortlist of potential targets.

As reported by Sportsmail last week, Sterling wants to remain at Man City but will consider his future at the Premier League champions if he continues to struggle for consistent games.

No player has ever appeared in more matches managed by Pep Guardiola at Man City, yet the 26-year-old has started only two league games since the opening weekend of the season after the £100m summer signing of Jack Grealish.

“I’m not a person that’s going to complain, I’ve not tried to make it a bigger deal than it actually is,” Sterling said earlier this month.

“I get on with my work, do what I need to do. And I’m just raring to go: playing football matches regularly, scoring goals regularly.

“At the end of the day, if football for me is not at a certain standard I’m not really at my happiest. If I want my happiness at a certain level I need to be playing football. I need to be scoring goals and enjoying myself.”

Sterling has 18 months remaining on his current contract at Man City but has opted against opening discussions over an extension until his short-term future is resolved.

Now, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, City have told any club interested in signing Sterling that they will have to pay £67m to get a deal done.

Barcelona’s need for a new winger is exacerbated by Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation – his deal is set to expire at the end of the season. The club could look to move him on in January for a cut price to avoid losing their £135million signing on a free transfer.

Recent reports in Spain have linked Barcelona with an initial loan move for Sterling because their financial woes mean they could not afford to pay a huge fee for the former Liverpool star at present.

The club are in financial ruin due to their debt, which stands at more than £1billion, which contributed to LaLiga slashing their wage bill to a maximum of £90m – equivalent to that of Watford – last month.

The governor made the comment in a message of goodwill to Muslims around the country on the occasion of Eid el Maulud, which marks Prophet Mohammed’s birth (SAW).

Okowa particularly encouraged Muslims and other religious organizations to increase their prayers for required reforms in order to make Nigeria a better place.

In a statement released in Asaba on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Okowa noted that Nigeria is today beset by terrorism, banditry, abduction, aggravated robbery, herders-farmers clashes, and unrests, all of which have hampered the country’s progress and development.

The statement reads: “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I extend our warmest wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Maulud in Delta, Nigeria and around the world.

“As a people with great religious beliefs, if we can imbibe and espouse the Holy Prophet’s teachings, our nation will ultimately benefit from it.

“Let us remember to pray fervently for our nation to achieve greater unity and rise against tendencies offensive to democratic tenets and wellbeing of the country and the people, irrespective of religion or place of origin.

“It is the time for a rebirth in the polity, and I urge all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands in that direction, especially in giving the country a new Constitution that will address all contending issues that are reflective of true democracy and federalism,”

Do Not Link Your SIM Cards To Another Person’s NIN, NCC Cautions Subscribers

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has cautioned Nigerians not to link their National Identification Numbers (NINs) to another person’s Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.

This was contained in a statement released on Monday by NCC’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Adinde.

According to Adinde, the commission gave the warning during its third run Telecom Consumer Town Hall on Radio (TCTHR) programme, broadcast live on Human Rights Radio, 101.1 FM in Abuja recently.

NCC’s director of consumer affairs bureau, Efosa Idehen while speaking during the radio programme focused on ‘the Benefits of NIN-SIM Integration’ said telecom consumers should not allow another use their NINs to register on another person’s SIM.

Idehen said compliance would protect the owner of the NIN from any liabilities or negative consequences arising from the use of another person’s SIM.

“If the person, whose SIM is linked to your line use his own SIM to commit crimes or any form of atrocities, it is easy to be traced to you, and then, you will be dealt with because the SIM is linked to your NIN,” he said.

The statement added that during the phone-in segment of the radio programme, consumers within Nigeria and in the diaspora, especially from the United Kingdom (UK), Russia and neighbouring countries like Ghana, among others, called and received clarifications on the ongoing NIN-SIM integration in Nigeria.

“Discussions largely focused on educating consumers on NIN and its purpose, process of obtaining NIN, why consumers are being asked to submit their NIN to their Mobile Network Service Providers, the benefits of NIN-SIM linkage, the relationship between NIN and Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration, the step-by-step approach to linking NIN to SIM, and the role and uses of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) *346# in the NIN-SIM integration activities,” the statement reads.

The statement added that Efosa was joined in the studio by NCC’s director, public affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde, represented by Omoniyi Ibietan, assistant Director in the department and Nnenna Ukoha, deputy director, projects department of NCC.

Inactive Rail Tracks Give Room For Vandalism – Frank Mba

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Frank Mba has stated that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) needs to improve its investment in security to tackle vandalism.

This was stated on Monday by the PRO of the NPF when he featured as a guest on ‘Good Morning Nigeria’, a programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Recently, the police have made several arrests in recent times of persons allegedly involved in vandalizing rail tracks across the country.

Recall that the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi at a media briefing in July had stated that persons found culpable of vandalizing of railway facilities should be charged with manslaughter.

Speaking on the NTA programme on Monday, Mba said such acts of vandalism are encouraged by the fact that some of the tracks are not currently in operation.

“This is not just a Nigerian issue. It also seems to be a global challenge. In South Africa, for example, at a time, 10 kilometers of rail track were vandalized. In fact, the cost to replace that was put at $2.3 million. This year alone, the South African transport ministry is budgeting 1.9 billion rand to put back their rail system that was vandalized, especially during the pandemic — during the sit-at-home,” he said.

“That gives credence to [the] position that when a rail line is idle, it gives room for vandalism. When a rail line is not in active use, that’s when a lot of vandalizing, stealing, destruction take place. And to complicate matters, once the vandalism begins to take place, and it’s not quickly fixed, then you create more room for it to go on.

“The challenge for NRC is also for them to be perpetually vigilant. The earlier these things are fixed as soon as the theft takes place, the stronger deterrent you put in place to stop further vandalism on that track.

“Both the transport ministry and the railway corporation need to invest in security. Everywhere in the world, the best global practice is dual investment. As you invest in infrastructure, it doesn’t matter whether it’s transport, it doesn’t matter if it’s aviation, invest in the security and protection of that infrastructure.”
