APC Condemns Attack On Imo Monarchs

0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state chapter has criticized and strongly condemned the barbaric and unprovoked attack on Njaba Council of Traditional Rulers of Imo State.

ABN TV learnt that the monarchs were attacked while having their routine town hall meeting with the Interim Management Committee chairman of the area on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by Cajetan Duke, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, the APC chairman in Imo state, Hon. Macdonald Kelechi Ebere described the attack which claimed two monarchs in the area as regrettable.

The statement reads: “The sad and mindless attack which led to the untimely death of two prominent and highly revered traditional rulers in the state, Eze E.A Duruebure and Eze Sampson Osunwa of Okwudor and Ihebinowere autonomous communities respectively, and leaving many others severely wounded, will for a long time to come to remain an unpardonable assault on the collective psyche of our people.

“While we join the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in the condemnation of this heinous and dastardly act, we call on all relevant security agencies in the state to rise up to recent security challenges in the state, particularly in the area of intelligence gathering and rapid response approach.

“Piqued by the provocative desecration of our land with violent killings of innocent citizens, particularly the sacrilegious murder of our traditional rulers, our party throws its total support to the state government and all relevant security agencies in their best security arrangement and effort to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors and enablers to face the full wrath of the law.

“While our party has observed with great concern the silence of the political oppositions in the face of these reckless attacks on innocent citizens of the state, we are further worried that the same opposition will not hesitate to rise in critic against government and security agencies in their lawful efforts to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to book. Opposition without conscience is a dangerous threat to democracy and humanity.

“The party however expresses sincere condolence to the IMC Chairman, the good and resilient people of Njaba on the death of their esteemed traditional rulers and particularly the immediate bereaved royal families, while praying for the repose of the departed.”

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),has stated that it is the fervent prayers of the people of Anambra that got him to the turning point where his  candidature is now the most talked about in Anambra state.

“When we began our campaign, no one gave us any chance. Some even resorted to all manners of blackmail, accusing us falsely of what we  don’t know about. Some others were so definite that the APC will get no reception in Anambra state,  but today almost everyone in Anambra  wants to join the APC. It can only be your prayers that have made this possible,” Senator Uba said.

The Senator spoke at Community Secondary School, Umueze-Anam in Anambra West and Our Lady’s Catholic Church grounds in Anambra East, respectively, on Day 2 of his ongoing local government tour of the state.

In a statement issued on his behalf by Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, director, Media and Publicity of the Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organization, SAUGCO, Uba described his visit to Anambra East and West LGAs as homecoming of sorts, recalling that when he was at the Presidency, he facilitated the appointment of a Minister from the area.

Uba promised to run an all-inclusive government, stating that he would open up Anambra East and West, which is the food basket of Anambra State, by building efficient road networks in both LGAs.

“Specifically, we shall undertake, as one of our immediate tasks, the construction of a befitting road to connect Nzam, headquarters of Anambra West local government area.

“I wonder how, in this day and age, a local government headquarter is completely cut off and made inaccessible; so, how do workers get to their offices in the LGA, how do the various communities get to the local government headquarters when they have need to go there?

“Yet, these people live close to a brother who has remained on the saddle as governor for close to eight years, from nearby Aguleri that is only minutes away.”

The APC candidate also promised to explore his contacts with the federal authorities to ensure completion of the Anam-Kogi-Abuja road that would reduce the travel time from the South east to Abuja, the nation’s capital, by three hours.

Speaking at both events, the Director-General of the Campaign, Sir Paul Chukwuma told the ecstatic crowd that the time to get it right, politically, for the Igbo nation was the opportunity offered by the November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election in Anambra state.

Apparently taking a swipe at those he called ‘Professors know all and do nothing,’ Chukwuma stated that on the contrary, Uba does not claim to be all knowing, but instead believes in harnessing the innovative spirit of ndi Anambra to jointly move the state forward.

The Deputy Director-General of the campaign, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi on his part urged the voters to get ready their voters’ cards, as the election would be won at the polling booths. He urged them to be vigilant and prevent mischievous fellows who may be primed to rig the election so as to further their eight years of maladministration in the state.

Other speakers at the event include the Chairman of the APC in Anambra State, Basil Ejidike, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon. Ralph Okeke and Hon. Peter Madubueze, who all spoke glowingly of Senator Uba.

Those who accompanied Senator  Uba to both local governments included Honourables Chinedu Eluemunor, Afam Ogene and Chizor Obidigwe. Others were Amb. Jerry Ugokwe, Chief Obi Okoli, Ekene Enefe and a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Cater Umeh.

Lagos Traffic: Fayose Boards Okada To Avoid Missing Flight

0

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says it is working with the Lagos State Government to address the traffic gridlock on the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) road in the state.

The traffic gridlock has worsened on the airport road in recent times, forcing some travelers to resort to motorcycles in order not to miss their flights.

There were mixed reactions when the former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, was sighted on a bike along the airport to catch a flight. It was not clear where the governor was heading to.

Our correspondent reports that many passengers on several occasions had to resort to Okada in order not to miss their flights following the hectic traffic gridlock that has become a daily occurrence especially at peak periods on the airport road.

The worst hit is the domestic wing of the airport as the gridlock usually stretches from Ikeja under bridge to as far as the airport tollgate.

When such happens, commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders usually flood the airport road, charging passengers as much as N1000 and N2000 to convey them to either the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) or the MMA2, a private terminal operated by the Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL).

Though Okada is banned on major roads in Lagos, the riders have continued to defy the law to take over the road leading to the busiest airport in Nigeria.

Passengers and airport users have continued to lament the daily traffic gridlock on the airport road where they spend hours commuting from the international airport to the local terminals or the popular Ikeja Under-Bridge.

Speaking with Daily Trust, General Manager, Corporate Communications of FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu in a chat with Daily Trust said Okada remain banned on the airport road and vowed that the authority would continue to clamp down on the riders.

She, however, said the authority was working with the state government to address the gridlock on airport road while further clamping down on Okada riders.

Asked on what FAAN is doing on the Okada menace, she said, “Of course we are doing something. We usually arrest them and take them to the Police station. We impound their bikes. Only recently we mounted signages warning them on the use of bikes on our access roads. There’s a fee of 50k if caught.”

On the worsening gridlock, she said, “FAAN is working with the LASG to address the traffic gridlock. It starts from under the bridge and the government promised to do something.”

Aviation analyst, Group Capt. John Ojikutu, decried the situation, saying it was wrong for Okada to be operating a shuttle on airport service road. He charged FAAN to urgently do something about it.

A Northern group, Arewa Youth Alliance for 2023, has thrown its weight behind the presidential aspiration of Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The youths noted that Tinubu was the best presidential material in 2023.

The group’s coordinator, Hon Lawan Bello, said the managerial skill, technical know-how, and national appeal of Tinubu put him in the best position to rule Nigeria in 2023.

Bello said the group would ensure that the former governor becomes president in 2023.

He urged all political parties in Nigeria to adopt Tinubu as the sole candidate for Nigeria.

In a statement he signed, Bello said the “APC leader has the capacity, national appeal, and technical know-how, management skills to lead and unite Nigeria based on his landmark achievement as Lagos Governor and as National leader of APC with a voluminous contribution to the success of the Buhari administration.

“His policies and actions culminated into a practical development model that based on research conducted, many states in Nigeria have since adopted it and this model is also been used by prestigious institutions of learning across the globe as one of the successful development and economic models from Africa’s largest Country.

“The Arewa Youth Alliance for 2023 will leave no stone unturned to ensure Tinubu becomes the next President of Nigeria come 2023 God willing.”

Some sections of Nigerians have been clamouring for Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Amid the calls, the former Lagos State governor has been silent on running for the presidency in 2023.

However, there are insinuations that Tinubu is nursing a presidential ambition, despite his current silence.
