Nnamdi Kanu’s Cousin Begs FG To Allow IPOB Leader Access To Medical Facility

0

Fresh concern over Nnamdi Kanu’s health has led a cousin of his to plead with the Federal Government to grant the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra access to his personal physicians for thorough medical attention.

Mr Chijindu Offor, the first cousin of the IPOB leader, raised this plea in a media chat with newsmen, saying he was seriously worried over the health status of Kanu.

He noted that the Department of State Services where the IPOB leader is currently being detained “lacks the needed facilities to handle his health challenges,” hence the compelling need to allow him access to his private doctors “to properly take care of him.”

Kanu’s cousin advised that the IPOB leader’s medical condition could worsen if not properly managed by experts, a sad development he said could even result to his death.

“Kanu’s death in custody would serve Nigeria no good, but worsen matters for the country as the aftermath of such tragedy will be too enormous to handle,” he said.

He urged the Federal Government to heed the appeals from various quarters to engage Kanu in dialogue with a view to resolving the cause of the growing agitation for self determination.

Only dialogue and meaningful engagement of the necessary stakeholders, he said, will resolve the various agitations for self determination in the country.

Offor urged leaders of the country to stop pretending and convene a round table discuss where the various genuine national questions will be frankly addressed to save Nigeria from the precipice.

He warned that intimidation and use of brute force by government will not stop the growing agitation for self determination by different regions in the country which he said was a result of the general disenchanted in the land.

Don’t Campaign With Killing Of Imo Traditional Rulers In 2023, APC Begs PDP

0

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo State Chapter, on Tuesday called on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, not to use the killings of Imo monarchs to advance their political ambition for 2023.

The State Publicity Secretary of APC, Cajetan Duke, made this statement in Owerri while responding to the comment credited to the South East Consensus candidate for the National Secretary position of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who boasted the PDP, will stop killings in Imo, regarding the monarch incident.

It should be recalled Imo monarchs were attacked by unknown gunmen last week Tuesday while they were having their meeting at Njaba Local Government headquarters in Imo state, two monarchs died instantly while others sustained gunshot injuries.

But According to APC, while responding to Senator Anyanwu, said: “It’s most unfortunate a former senator who represented Imo East (otherwise known as Owerri zone) in the national assembly has opened a 2023 political campaign using a very critical and sensitive issue like the insecurity and loss of lives of our innocent citizens particularly that of our revered traditional rulers in Njaba LGA.

“Samdaddy, had, in a trending message signed by his media aide, Ikenna Onuohia, noted that the PDP would solve the security challenges when it takes over the leadership of the country in 2003. While we do not intend to remind the Ikeduru born politician that it was under the PDP led administration that all the current central fugal forces bearing their fangs first reared their ugly heads, it is an incontrovertible truth that insecurity in Nigeria is a creation of PDP, which is being squarely dealt with by the APC administration.”

“The records are there and the facts still reveal that the same PDP Samdaddy is invoking for remedy, was in power when all the triangular demons of Boko Haram, banditry and kidnappers regrettably turned Nigeria into a theatre of criminals and criminality.

“Our party consider the attempt by Senator Anyanwu and his cohorts to turn the unfortunate incident in Njaba LGA into a campaign instrument as grossly insensitive and disrespectful to the sensibilities of the families of the victims. We can’t lose our sense of humanity in the name of politics.

This is regrettable that an incident that calls, for sobriety and solemnity could be amplified into a campaign tool, which is capable of compromising the fragile security situation in the state.”

Let’s Fight Corruption Together – EFCC Boss, Bawa Charges Youth Corps Members

0

The Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, today Wednesday October 27, 2021 charged members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1, to partner with the Commission in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

He made the call in a sensitization lecture on the Role of Youths in Curbing Corruption at the NYSC Orientation Camps across the country.

At Okada, Edo State, Bawa stated that, “young people must not be mere spectators in the anti-graft campaign; rather, they should actually be foot soldiers leading the mass rout of corruption and economic crimes out of our land”.

The EFCC boss who was represented by Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Command urged the corps members to enlist in the anti-graft army by joining the NYSC/EFCC Anti-Corruption CDS group. “Youth Corps members are dynamic young men and women whose energy can be harnessed for greater public good by being role models and whistle blowers in their area of primary assignment,” he stated.

He admonished the youths to embrace hard work and shun crime. “There is no shortcut to wealth and fame. The fact that the rate of unemployment is high should not be an excuse to resort to crime. Acts of criminality might deliver wealth in the short term but ultimately, they lead to misery,” he warned.

At the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ise-Orun, Ekiti State, the EFCC chairman who was represented by Ayodele Babatunde, Head, Public Affairs Department, Ilorin Zonal Command urged Corps members to take ownership of the fight against corruption in order to redeem the image of the country. Bawa expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome the various socio-economic challenges confronting it through strong determination by youths and other stakeholders.

The EFCC boss also admonished the youth to resist the temptation of being lured into cybercrimes warning that the end could be “perilous and shameful”.

At the NYSC Orientation Camp, Awgu, Enugu State, the Zonal Commander, Enugu Command, ACE Oshodi Johnson, who represented the EFCC boss charged the youth to become anti-corruption whistleblowers. “The message of the EFCC to you all this morning is that you should become whistleblowers in any place where you find yourself by reporting acts that fail the simple test of integrity. It’s no use lamenting that things are not right with our country. We are inviting you to lend a hand in helping us build a society where there is respect for law and order and where impunity is a thing of the past” he said.

In Kaduna, Nana Fatima Abubakar of the Public Affairs Department, Kaduna Command, who represented the Commission urged Corps members to take advantage of the service years to contribute their quota to the anti-corruption fight. She enjoined them to become change agents by helping to mentor kids in schools through the establishment of Integrity clubs.

The same message was delivered by Mary Ogolekwu of the Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Command, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele Uku, Delta State and Sunday Eze of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nonwa, Port Harcourt.

Nigerians Want Return Of PDP Over 6 Years Failure Of APC To Proffer Solutions To Nigeria’s Problems — Delta Commissioner

0

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Wednesday, said after more than six years in office, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has failed to proffer solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

Aniagwu, spoke on ‘Democracy’ on Africa Independent Television, AIT, monitored by our Correspondent, said Nigerians were desirous of the return of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to power at the centre to fix the myriad of economic, security and governance challenges bedevilling the nation.

He said the people want PDP returned to power because the economy is not in good shape and as a country so much more is desired from the government by the people.

Aniagwu who is also a member of the PDP National Convention Publicity sub-committee said: “You do know that Nigeria has two major political parties, and you don’t need a soothsayer to make you understand what the word ‘governance’ is all about.

“For that reason, Nigerians would want a bag of rice returned to N7,000 and there are many reasons why Nigerians are asking for the return of the PDP and we are very much aware of the need to reinvent ourselves as a party.”

On the accusation that PDP was always “attacking” the APC, he said the PDP speaks the truth always unlike some other parties, saying; “For instance, that you go to the market today to buy a bag of beans for N100,000 is not an attack, It’s an obvious fact that you need to state.

“That today we have become very much indebted in the history of the country is not an attack, It’s a statement of fact and it has become desirous of the PDP to correct these many ills.

“The PDP is a party that understands that the youths play a very important role in the development of the country and to that extent, the party is very much desirous to bringing in a youth leader that would also be youthful in the youth bracket.

“In bringing the leadership of the party at the National Level, apart from the party’s National Chairman, the party would also bring those who understand the situation of the country and how to proffer solutions to it.

“The party is very much interested in addressing the issues of the economy which is one other major challenge facing us today, and that of insecurity.

“When the PDP was in power, we brought in experts like Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Olusegun Aganga, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina and many others to drive the economy and we experienced real economic growth and handed over Africa’s largest economy to the APC in 2015.

“Today the APC has destroyed the economy of the nation with excruciating debts, massive foreign exchange crisis and unabating insecurity across the land.

“Nigerians have suffered so much in the past six years and it is without doubt that they want the PDP back in 2023 because the party represents the interests and yearnings of the people”.

On preparations for the party’s National Convention, Aniagwu said the party was very much prepared as all committees were already on the ground making arrangements for the success of the convention.

He said the party was not worried about the impending Appeal Court ruling because it recognises members’ right to seek court redress on any matter.

He said: “At the moment the party is not having any court judgement restricting it from going ahead to conduct the party’s convention.

“It’s an elective convention with the purpose of bringing an onboard a new set of leaders that will help to reinvent the party and bring it back to winning ways.

“The party’s echelon is working hard to unite all contending forces and of course you know it’s a big party and we have internal dispute resolution mechanisms which had always worked for us.

“The Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and members of that committee are on top of the situation.

“The Chairman of the Sub Committee on Accreditation who happens to be my boss, the Governor of Delta, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa also had a meeting with members of that committee to ensure that only those authorised as delegates have access to the Eagles Square venue of the National Convention on Saturday,”

On the issue of the suspended National Chairman, Aniagwu said: “We do believe that he is a party man and would be very much interested in the progress of the party at a time like this where most Nigerians are yearning for the return of the PDP.

“The PDP is an organized political party that has an internal mechanism. The peace in the PDP is evident that the party is well coordinated.

“We are well convinced that the National Convention which comes up on Saturday and Sunday would go on very smoothly as everything has been put in place and the committees are doing all their best in making sure that everything works out perfectly and we are convinced that at the end of it all Nigerians would see the transparency in the PDP.”

Anambra Guber Election: Have A Rethink Over 7-Day Sit-At-Home Order, Ohanaeze Begs IPOB

0

DISTURBED by the negative implications of the seven-day sit-at-home directive by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for the Anambra governorship election, the state and the South-East zone, and Nigeria, Ohanaeze Ndigbo have begged the separatist group to reconsider the stand.

Last week, the IPOB vowed to observe a seven-day lock down as from November 5 in support of its detained Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, unless he is released by the Federal Government on or before November 4.

Noting that Anambra is the economic live wire of the South-East, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said any harm to the state will “create untold disastrous chain reactions and catastrophe for the Igbo.”

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze urged the Chairman, South-East Governors Forum and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi to convene an emergency meeting of Igbo stakeholders and Youth Leaders for the purpose of addressing the legitimacy crisis in the zone especially as it relates to Anambra State election and the political solution for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

The statement read: “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide pleads with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to reconsider the 7 days’ Sit at Home order in the South-East of Nigeria from November 5 to November 11. This is to enable the governorship election for Anambra State scheduled for November 6 to hold.

“It is important to note that Anambra State is the economic live wire of the South East with an impressive steady growth trajectory. For instance, Anambra State showcases the best rural road network and rural community development in the South East if not in the entire Nigeria. Anambra is home to the greatest number of small, medium and large scale industries in the South East. Most recently, Anambra has added a cargo airport to its resource base.

“Above all, Onitsha is the largest market in West Africa. The implication of the above illustration is that Anambra State is the melting pot of Igbo traders and artisans. It stands to reason that Anambra is the big Iroko tree that provides a shade for most Igbos. Apart from the shade, it also hosts the numerous birds that perch on the branches. Therefore, any harm to the Iroko tree will create untold disastrous chain reactions and catastrophe for the Igbo.

“While pleading with the IPOB to rescind the Lock Down plan, Ohanaeze Ndigbo requests the Chairman, South East Governors Forum and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi to convene an emergency meeting of Igbo stake holders and the Youth Leaders for the purpose of addressing the legitimacy crisis in the South East, especially as it relates to Anambra State election and the political solution for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“It is important to point out that one of the causes of the crisis of confidence in the South-East is because of the yawning gap between the Youths and indeed the masses on one side and the political leaders on the other.

“Therefore, the leadership of the various youth groups should not be excluded in any meeting aimed at resolving the current crises in Igbo Land. In other words, the youths want to be fully convinced of our commitment to their plight.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterates its solidarity with any group that protests the Igbo alienation in the project Nigeria with a caution for restraint, maturity and wisdom. It is based on the foregoing that Ohanaeze adopts the philosophy of dialogue, negotiations in coalition with other concerned groups that comprise the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum led by Chief E K Clark.

“It is also lamentable that the burial ceremony for the Afara Ukwu born Chief Mrs Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi, slated for November 5 in Umuahia, Abia State may be drastically affected by the prevailing Igbo social climate. General JTU Aguiyi Ironsi represents so many things to the Igbo and we owe his soul a duty.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willy Obiano to convene a joint meeting of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Emeka Udodeme and the Association of Towns Union (ASATU) led by Barr. Titus Akpudo with a view to activating meetings in all the 181 towns of Anambra State. The traditional rulers, Archbishops, Bishops and the Clergy are also requested to brace up in their roles as the cultural and spiritual leaders of society.

“Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is very perturbed that the serenity, tranquility and aggressive entrepreneurship for which the Igbo are known are gradually yielding to the unknown dark forces. He is more perturbed when the Anambra ordeal is juxtaposed with the calibre of personages for which the state is known. Some of them include Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Dr. Alex. Ekwueme, Professor Chinua Achebe, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Professor Chike Obi, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Cardinal Francis Arinze, Professor Dora Akunyili, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, Dr. Nwafor Orizu, Professor Keneth Dike, Peter Obi, Professor ABC Nwosu, Engr. Arthur Eze, Dr. Chris Ngige, Igwe Alfred Achebe, etc and numerous young and old billionaires.

“In many respects, Anambra is the engine that propels the Igbo enterprise. As elders, we should not fold our arms while the goat dies in the tether.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is of the conviction that the disruption of the Anambra State election and its adverse consequences are a major setback to the Igbo civilization.”
