ASUU Threatens Another Strike, Gives FG 3-Week Ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a three-week ultimatum to meet its demands contained in the Memorandum of Action (MoA), signed by both parties on December 23, 2020.

Failure to comply, it said, ASUU could resort to industrial action.

The Union also set up an independent committee to probe what it described as questionable appointment of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, as a Professor of Cyber Security at the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

Council (NEC) meeting held over the weekend, listed several criteria for the position of professorship of which the minister was said to lack thus, not qualified for the position.

ASUU rejected Pantami’s academic position in its entirety saying, “We know something is wrong in the appointment of Isa Pantami as a Professor, it doesn’t look right.”

Anambra APC Sacks Publicity Secretary For Congratulating Soludo

The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has sacked its publicity secretary, Okelo Madukaife.

The state chairman of the party, Basil Ejidike announced this at a press conference in Awka, the Anambra capital on Sunday.

He said Madukaife who was suspended in June this year had continued to parade himself as the public secretary to the extent that he appeared on national television recently to congratulate the All Progressives Grand Alliance governor-elect, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Ejidike said, “Okelo was suspended in June this year. We were surprised that he has continued to parade himself as the publicity secretary of the party. That ought not to be.

“On behalf of APC Anambra State, we wish to clearly state that Okelo Madukaife is no longer a member of our party and so he can’t be or function as the publicity secretary of our party in the state.

“Anybody dealing with him as a member of APC or publicity secretary of the party is doing so at their own risk.

“We wish to state categorically that as far as the Anambra governorship poll is concerned, we have not congratulated anybody.”

He added, “But we are aware that since June, he has been raining abuses on our party.

“Okelo was suspended since June following his involvement in anti-party activities. He has been replaced by assistant publicity secretary, Nonso Chinwuba. Okelo does not belong to the party.”

Describing the election as fraud, Ejidike said the party was studying the situation with a view to approaching the court about the outcome of the poll.

Reminded of the congratulations issued to Soludo by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and Director General of the National Inland Waterways, Chief George Moghalu(all members of the APC in the state), Ejike said they did that as individuals and not as officials of the party.

When contacted on the telephone, Madukaife said he remained the state’s publicity secretary.

“As I’m talking with you, I’m still doing my work very effectively, discharging my duties as the publicity secretary of the party in the state. So, I don’t know what you are talking about.

“Maybe I should see everything he said so that I reply once because our party cannot be sold to anybody. Our position that there were no governorship primaries in Anambra as stated by our chapter remains firm, fixed, and unshakable. It’s the truth registered in the minds of all members of APC in the state.

“But I need to see what exactly Ejidike is saying before I can make one word. Ejidike is on his own. The whole chapter has discovered that he is a sellout who collected a lot of money to sell our primaries out. I don’t want to miss one word in what I’m replying, that’s why I said I would want to see what exactly he said because we have been managing him for the sake of our own image,” Madukaife said.

Obi Cubana’s Club In Abuja Shut Down

Hustle and Bustle, a club owned by Obinna Iyiegbu, businessman popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been shut indefinitely.

The management of the club shut down the fun spot after a clubber was electrocuted.

The incident was said to have happened on Sunday.

Confirming the tragic incident, the club said it had suspended activities “till further notice”.

“We are closed till further notice. This is due to the loss of our esteemed client. We are deeply saddened by this situation and need time to heal from it,” the statement read.

“Our prayer are with the families of the lost soul. May her soul Rest In Peace. We sympathize with the family on this unbearable loss. Kindly bear with us as we pass through this storm.”

Bandits Should Be Adequately Compensated With Enough Money & Land – Gumi

Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi says bandits have refused to end hostilities against the Nigerian government because they were not given land and “enough money”.

Mr Gumi said past attempts “to broker peace” with the bandits failed because they were not compensated “with lands or cattle or money big enough to help halt hostilities.”

He added that sometimes the government would “just give them (bandits) a million or two million and get their weapons without even looking at how they survive.”

In a live stream on his Facebook page, the FG-appointed mediator for bandits said only religion can be used to pacify them to embrace peace.

Contrary to Mr Gumi’s stance, Katsina Governor Aminu Masari, openly admitting that Fulanis are the bandits killing and kidnapping Nigerians, said they don’t deserve amnesty.

Malami Denies Knowing Lawrence Ajodo Who Was Arrested Over Raid Of Justice Odili’s House

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, has denied knowing or engaging at any time, a fake police officer, Lawrence Ajodo who was among 14 persons paraded by the Police over the siege to the Abuja residence of Supreme Court Justice, Justice Mary Odili.

Ajodo, who allegedly led the team that invaded Justice Odili’s home, had during interrogation, confessed to being a consultant to the AGF but insisted that he was not sent on the raid by the AGF.

Speaking yesterday on Channels Television’s Programme, ‘Politics Today’ monitored by our correspondent, Malami reiterated his stance, saying he had never met Ajodo or engaged him in any job for the ministry.

He said: By my recollection, either in my personal capacity or as AGF, I did not know him, I didn’t engage him formally or informally. That is the position of things as far as Lawrence is concerned.”

Asked if the office of the AGF engages consultants for the recovery of properties, Malami said: ‘The office of the AGF engages people officially, particularly lawyers. But the issue here is about official engagement. If Lawrence has evidence of being engaged by the AGF office, he should bring the proof. There is no way someone can be engaged informally as a consultant. So he should provide the public with the letter of engagement by the ministry.

”It is on account of this that I engaged the office of the Inspector-General of Police to conduct an investigation into the matter and look at it from the point of criminality and the police have come up with a report. I reiterate again that I don’t know this man and I have never met him. The IGP has concluded his investigation.”

Asked if he could recollect Ajojo ever being on the payroll of the AGF office, Malami said: ”Government business is a formal business, so if there is any formal engagement of anyone for business, it must be formalized. I can tell you that nothing like Lawrence Ojodo exists in our system or any agency of government that I know.”

Malami affirmed that there was a unit in his office in charge of asset recovery but reiterated that Ajodo to the best of his knowledge was ever engaged to work in that unit.

“There is an asset recovery unit in my office. Government business is regulated through processes and procedures, so they do not operate separately from other departments or against government laid down procedures. The man said he was engaged by the AGF. There are 36 AGFs in the country, so he should say which of the AGF engaged him.”

When confronted with the video confession of Ajodo that he got briefs from his office directly to recover 29 assets, Malami responded thus: ” I think Ajodo has spoken clearly without mincing words on this issue by saying that I didn’t send him on the assignment to raid Justice Odili’s house.

That is the issue at stake. The second important issue is that the IGP has investigated this matter and clearly stated that Lawrence is not in any way engaged by my office.” The answers are clear and the man has said I didn’t send him. This is just a case of a criminal enterprise that these people are engaged in. This is a man who has been shown to forge signatures.

Also about his reaction to the call by the NBA that an independent be constituted to investigate the matter, Malami said: “The Police which is constitutionally empowered to carry out this investigation has submitted its report. If the NBA feels strongly about the report, there are ways to challenge the findings.

“They can go to court to upturn it. I believe that the NBA Preside may have his own agenda which he is pursuing arising from certain conspiracy theories. But I think that if he feels strongly about the police report, he should go to court.”

Monday Ubani Says Malami Cannot Set Up Probe Panel On Justice Odili’s Home Invasion

The Chairman of Section, Public Interest And Development Law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association, Monday Ubani, has explained why the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, cannot set up an independent panel to probe the siege of Justice Mary Odili’s residence.

Ubani, a former Second Vice-President of the NBA, believes the Attorney General of the Federation has been implicated by one of the suspects arrested in connection with the incident.

“The minimum the NBA will really be happy about is the President setting up an independent panel of inquiry,” he said on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“It is wrong for probably the AGF to investigate himself because of the fact that he has been implicated sort of, not that he has been found liable but somebody mentioned his name.

“Then the police went there, the soldiers were also involved. Can the police really investigate them and come out with a clean story?”

On October 29, some security operatives, including police officers laid a siege on the Abuja residence of Mrs Odili, a justice of the Supreme Court and wife of former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili.

Amid criticism sparked by the action of the operatives, some security agencies denied having any connection with the incident.

Mr Malami had also denied ordering any action of such while the Inspector General of Police ordered an investigation into the incident.

This led to the arrest of 14 suspects by the police, including one Lawrence Ajodo who claimed to have worked previously with the AGF.

“The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a total of fourteen (14) suspects including the principal suspect – a fake Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) – for complicity in the failed criminal trespass on the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili on Friday, 29th October 2021,” the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba had said in a statement.

“The suspects were arrested following investigations conducted by detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) which clearly revealed the criminal involvement and individual roles the suspects played in the invasion of the residence of the revered Supreme Court Judge.”

While Ubani reiterated the call by NBA President, Olumide Akpata, for President Muhammadu Buhari to set up an independent panel of inquiry to uncover the circumstances behind the incident, Malami insisted that he had no hand in the incident.

6 Arrested As MBA Student ‘Disappears’ After Lodging In Osun Hotel

The owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Mr Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin and his worker, Ms Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola have been accused of being involved in the disappearance of one Mr Adegoke Timothy Oludare.

Oludare had lodged in the hotel located in Ife, Osun State a number of times between October 22 and November 5, 2021.
The hotel is owned by the founder of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Osun State.

A source told SaharaReporters that Oludare was a Master of Business Administration (MBA) student at the Obafemi Awolowo University was in Ife from October 22nd to October 24th; October 29th to October 31st; and had also planned to stay from November 5th to November 7th, 2021.

He was said to have frequented the town to take MBA examinations scheduled at intervals.

However, he was said to have been reported missing since he checked in at the hotel on Friday, November 5 preceding his examinations scheduled for Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7.

It was noticed that Oludare was missing when his wife could not reach him on the phone.

Meanwhile, he had earlier contacted his wife to inform her that he was staying in a hotel.

Following a police investigation, money paid by Oludare for lodging was traced to Adesola, who works in the hotel.

The source, however, allegedly that the owner of the hotel, who also owns Oduduwa University, and other workers initially denied that Oludare was at the hotel.

The source in a text made available to SaharaReporters said, “Adegoke Timothy Oludare is a student of Obafemi Awolowo University studying MBA executive programme. He is also a Director of Finance of FJJ Company. Adegoke Timothy Oludare frequented Ile-Ife between October 22nd to October 24th; October 29th to October 31st; and November 5th to November 7th, 2021 to take MBA exams at Obafemi Awolowo University and he had been consecutively lodging at Hilton Hotels and Resorts owned by Rahman Adedoyin.

“On Friday, November 5th, 2021, Adegoke Timothy Oludare contacted his wife (in Abuja) that he had arrived Ile-Ife and had lodged at an undisclosed hotel.

“The following morning, her wife was calling Adegoke Oludare’s phone line to extend morning greeting but the line kept ringing with no one picking up the call. The line was ringing throughout the day (Saturday 6th, 2021).

“Adegoke’s wife contacted relatives and the relatives immediately sent delegates to the examination centre of the OAU to confirm whether their son was in the examination hall. The examination coordinator checked the attendance for Saturday and Sunday (6th and 7th November) and they discovered that Adegoke Timothy Oludare did not come to take the exams.

“OAU Management and relatives proceeded to the police station to report the matter and investigation began. In the effort of the OAU Management, the chairman of the hoteliers’ association was contacted to reach out to hotels whether Adegoke Oludare lodged in any of the hotels but no positive response was received.

“On Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, wife of Adegoke Timothy Oludare discovered the receipt of the hotel in which her husband lodged the penultimate weekend to November 5th, 2021. The name of this Hotel was Hilton Hotels and Resorts.

“The investigation panel proceeded to Hilton to enquire whether Adegoke Oludare lodged again in the penultimate weekend which was 5th November 2021. They met the proprietor of this hotel (Chief Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin) but they denied that Adegoke Timothy Oludare lodged at their hotel.

“On Thursday 11th November 2021, investigation revealed that Adegoke Timothy Oludare transferred the sum of N37,000 from his account to a lady whose name is Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola and the details of the transfer showed that the transaction took place on Friday, 5th November 2021 that Adegoke Oludare’s wife claimed that her husband reported having lodged at a hotel in Ile Ife.”

The source also alleged that an Islamic cleric was also involved in the matter and that six persons have been arrested as suspects in connection with the case.

“Upon tracking the phone number on the said account, it was discovered that the owner of that number was at that moment at the Hilton Hotels and Resorts owned by Rahman Adedoyin. Police proceeded to the venue and Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola was fished out to be a staffer of the said hotel.

“Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola was apprehended and she confessed to allocating room 35 of Hilton Hotels and Resorts to Adegoke Timothy Oludare the same Friday. She was arrested and she was taken to the police headquarters, Osogbo.

“On November 12, 2021, her confession led to arrests of 6 other suspects by the police. One of the suspects who is a self-acclaimed Alfa (Islamic cleric) claimed to have left Ile-Ife for Ejigbo on Friday.

“Before Alfa’s confession, police tracking had shown that Adegoke Timothy Oludare’s phone was moved from Ile-Ife to Ejigbo between 5th and 6th November 2021.

“On November 13, 2021, the proprietor of Hilton Hotels and Resorts mobilised three lawyers to Osogbo in order to pervert the investigation process. The police also seem to be compromising in their investigation process.

“We call on well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and help us. Rahman Adedoyin is also the owner of Oduduwa University and he is claiming to be more powerful on this matter,” the source added.

However, when SaharaReporters tried to reach Adedoyin, his SA (Special Assistant), Mohammed Oladapo, who answered the call, said, “This is not Adedoyin. You are talking to his SA. Well, I can’t deny that it happened because the country itself is battling with insecurity. But, I don’t like to say anything so as not to jeopardise the investigation that is going on. You can call me back in the next two or three days.”

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu has commiserated with the President of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, over the death of his younger brother, Alhaji Sani Dangote.

Kalu, in a condolence message issued on Monday in Abuja, described the deceased, who was until his death the Vice Chairman of Dangote Group of Companies, as a complete gentleman with passion for humanity.

Kalu, also a former governor of Abia conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kano State over what he described as a “painful and huge loss” to the nation.

He acknowledged the contributions of the deceased to the business community, adding that the late Dangote was a big player in the private sector beyond the shores of Nigeria.

The former governor urged the President of Dangote Group of Companies to take solace in the fact that his late brother lived a purposeful life committed to the service of humanity.

He said: “I sympathise with the President of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, management and staff of Dangote Group of Companies over the demise of the Vice President of the conglomerate, Alhaji Sani Dangote.

“The late businessman was humble, easy-going, selfless, and committed to service of humanity.

“He contributed to the growth and progress of Nigeria through the business circle and sports.

“The deceased will be greatly missed by family members, friends, and associates.

“I urge the Dangote family to sustain the good deeds of the deceased.”

Kalu also extended his condolences to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and the entire Kano Emirate Council over the loss.

Interpol Systems Consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi has advised Nigerians to be contented with made in Nigeria products.

Udensi gave the advice on Saturday while addressing Journalists in Abuja on the 2021 Made-in -Aba Trade Fair, exhibition which has become an important annual feature in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) business promotion calendar in the country.

He told newsmen, that some of the problems facing indigenous products are lack of market, and necessary assistance and encouragement from the government.

The Abia-born politician stressed that government intervention is necessary to launch locally made products to the next level where they can be competitive and globally accepted.

“I have always known made in Aba products over the years, the problem is that if you have a good product, you don’t have a market, and the government does not give you the necessary assistance.

“My thinking is that this kind of product should go beyond where it is now and am impressed with what I have seen, even where they have their lapses we can effectively amend them. This is a good start, I have always had of made in Aba products, I didn’t even know we are still sustaining this level of production. My little prayer is that God will grant us, somebody who will take us beyond this level,” Udensi said.

On what the government should do to make Aba made goods be competitive with other products in Nigeria and beyond the shores of the country, he responded that, ”The problem we have always had is that the African market has always not patronized African products that has always been the problem, and what we need to do is to ensure that we are contented with what we have.

“If we allow the influx of all these products from outside Africa, it gives us the problem of sustaining what we have here. Let me tell you why am beginning to be happy with this government, to a large extent I was very angry with them, especially the way they have treated my people but government now says no more government Agencies, Ministries or Parastatals that will patronize foreign products, that’s a plus, that’s a good one.

“Am not going to criticize government in everything, if they have done the good ones, I will say that they have done the good ones, but as you know I have always criticized them for not realizing that our people exist, anybody who will ignore the Igbo race is a crazy man, the Igbo race is a race that is indomitable and we are ever existing.

“We have come to take a look at what we have here, to see how best we can help our people increase their productivity and also the acceptance of their products not only in our country but beyond, that is what we are trying to do.”

Also speaking, the Creative Director, Shoe Plant, a company renowned for the production of high-quality shoes and other footwear, Andrew Etim boasts that their products are made of high-quality leather and can compete globally.

Etim challenged doubters to come and see things for themselves, to compare their products and other foreign products, adding that they are proud to showcase their products anywhere in the world.

Asked if he thinks his products are ready enough to face the international market, and what he thinks should be done to ensure that he gains the acceptance he needs in terms of export, he said,” We are producing our shoes in Aba, and part of it in Abuja here. Our shoes are produced to be attractive to those who are used to high-grade shoes.

“We have gone beyond that, the African Continent Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the agreement has been signed but the implementation stage has not yet started.

Two months ago, about 30 Nigerian companies were invited to teach people how to easily export products with the AfCFTA, so Shoe Planet was the only shoe maker which was invited in that very programme which was organised by the Afrexim Bank and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.

“So we have gotten all the training we are supposed to have on that, so right now we have ordered from the Republic of Togo to shift our goods there, we have interest in Egypt to also shift our goods to them, so, we are looking at the South African market and the other Sub-regions. The way the free trade area is packaged, Afrexim Bank is providing guarantees for the buyers and the sellers. We are on course for that program waiting for it to start.

“The place where we are now is no longer about what we think, is now about what you yourself can see, if you look at the shoes, if you can look at what we have here, we have made our shoes to compete with what is imported.

“If you can look at what we have here, all the shoes are made with genuine leather, is not about what we think, is about what the customers can see. The products speak for themselves.”

“Our products have been speaking for themselves, so what we require now is access to market for more people to see them and we are very confident that they can stand out anywhere for any person to see them.”
