Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Anambra Gov Elect Soludo Disqualification

0

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit that sought to disqualify the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last governorship election in Anambra State – Charles Soludo and Onyeka Ibezim.

The plaintiffs – Adindu Valentine and Egwudike Chukwuebuka – are contending that Soludo and Ibezim provided false information in the affidavit (Form EC9) that they submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and should be declared as unqualified to stand for election.

In the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/711/2021 the plaintiffs claimed that Soludo indicated, in his Form EC9, Aguata 2, Anambra Constituency as the position he was contesting when, in fact, he was contesting the Anambra governorship seat.

Ibezim was said to have indicated Awka 2, Anambra Constituency, as against the deputy governorship seat he was contesting.

In his judgment on Wednesday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo held that the suit was frivolous as the plaintiffs failed to show how they were misled by the information supplied by Soludo and Ibezim.

Justice Taiwo noted that Soludo and Ibezim clearly ticked the positions of governor and deputy governor in the forms they submitted to INEC and only indicated their constituencies, which did not amount to supplying false information as envisaged under the Electoral Act.

The judge said it was known to all, including the plaintiffs, that only governorship election was held in Anambra on November 6 this years.

He resolved all the issues raised for determination against the plaintiffs and declined all the reliefs sought by them.

The judge awarded N2million cost against the plaintiffs, and in favour of APGA, Soludo and Ibezim.

Defendants in the suit were INEC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo and Ibezim.

Falz and Mr Macaroni have since rejected the invitation as they demanded justice of those allegedly killed during the EndSARS protest before peace can be restored.

Eedris, taking to his Instagram page described the invitation for the walk of peace as being dead on arrival.

According to him, no amount of walking can get Nigeria to the destination of peace without the route of justice.

“Sanwo-Olu your walk of peace is dead on arrival.”

Kano APC Insists On Challenging Court Ruling Over Lack Of Jurisdiction

The Kano State Government has rejected an Abuja High Court Judgement, nullifying the Governor Ganduje led APC Congresses, insisting the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja had nullified the congresses of the Kano State All Progressive Congress (APC) conducted by the Ganduje led faction of the party on Tuesday.

However, in response to the court’s decision, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, M. A Lawan, said the basis upon which the Court relied to give its Judgement cannot stand because the issue of jurisdiction is still valid.

He said the Kano government will appeal the judgement because as at the time the Ward Congresses were conducted in Kano they were done only by the authentic leadership of the APC led by Abdullahi Abbas.

The Attorney General said they are going to study the Judgement and appeal it, assuring that they would certainly get a judgement in their Appeal.

The Abuja High Court presided by Justice Hamza Muazu upheld the congresses conducted by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s led faction of the party.

The Judge ruled that the Shekarau led faction, ”tagged G-7” conducted an election that was signed by the 7- man committee of the APC.

Reports that the Applicants in the suit are Muntaka Bala Sulyman with 17, 980 members of the party while the defendants are members of the All Progressive Congress in Kano.

The first defendant is Mai- Mala Buni, Caretaker Chairman, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the National Secretary and the Independent National Electoral Commission, as the fourth defendant.

The court held that all the congresses conducted by the Ibrahim Shekarau led faction are valid.

The applicants were represented by Barr. Nuraini Jimoh, SAN and the defendants were represented by Barr. Sule Usman, SAN, M.N. Duru and Mashood Alabelewe.

However, Barrister M. A Lawan said it was not true to say that the other faction of Shekarau had conducted Wards Congresses which was the basis of them having judgement, “we are the only ones who conducted Congress in Ward levels on that day and the documents are there to show”.

Osun 2022: APC Leaders Restricts Party Members From Contesting Against Oyetola

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ede South/Ede North/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State have thrown their weight behind the second term bid of the State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

This is as the leaders have also warned that no aspirant from the federal Constituency should contest in the Osun APC primary against the Governor.

This decision was made known by Chairman of the elders, Gbadebo Ajao at a press conference on Tuesday at Ido-Osun.

The party leaders at the press conference disclosed that any party member from the federal Constituency who contests with the governor would be rejected by the party and they would not have their support in any form whatsoever.

The elders stated that their decision to endorse the Governor as the sole candidate for the 2022 gubernatorial election was arrived at after wide consultations across the federal constituency.

Recall that the APC had slated March, Saturday 5, 2022, for its gubernatorial primary election in Osun State and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also fixed July 16, 2022 for the Osun Gubernatorial election.

Some members of the party, especially The Osun Progressives (TOP) have been agitating that the candidate of the party for the polls be selected from the Osun West senatorial zone as was clamoured in 2018 so as to ensure fairness since individuals from both the Osun Central and East had served two terms in office as governor.

When the APC ticket went to the incumbent who comes from the Osun Central senatorial zone, many political heavyweights within the Osun APC, like the former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti decamped from the party to another political party in order to realise their ambitions but only came back to the party after election victory went the other way.

This move has not gone down well with the pro-Oyetola/IleriOluwa faction of the party whose argument has been that the decision to select a candidate that will be the APC flagbearer should be based on competence and not zonal consideration.

Notwithstanding, many aspirants from the Osun West zone have started to indicate interest in presenting themselves for the Osun top job.
