Bello lamented the sad state at which some families of deceased security officers are left, stressing the need for fallen heroes to continue to be remembered.

The governor said that the event of the emblem launch is symbolic as it signifies the gratitude of the government and people of the state for the sacrifices of the Armed Forces.

He noted that it is also a moment to reflect on the desired unity and security of the country and as well ponder on the challenges facing the nation’s security agencies.

He said: “Kogi is the safest in the country, and this feat is a product of the patriotism, commitment and sacrifice of security agencies in the state.

“It is saddening to see security personnels, after giving their all in the service of the country retires into life of poverty, advocating for improved welfare for members of the security forces.

“In Kogi, we appreciate the efforts of these fallen heroes and are committed to ensuring that their families are not just left alone to suffer.”

The State Security Adviser to the Governor, retired Navy Commander Jerry Omodara, said the prevailing peace and security in the state was a direct product of the sacrifices and diligent service of the security agencies.

Omodara said that the Bello-led administration was doing a lot to improve the standard of living of families of retired and deceased officers.

He said: “Beside the empowerment of three widows each in the 21 local governments of the state and payment of medical bills of its sick members, through the support of the state government, the legion now has a functional secretariat in Lokoja, the state capital.”

Warrant Officer David Salawu, a civil war veteran and Chairman of the Legion in the state, lauded Bello for caring for members of the legion.

“They came three times and scored a goal twice. We tried to do our best.

New Electoral Act Will End Fraudulent Practices At Collation Centres, No Figure Manipulation — Udensi

An Interpol Systems Consultant in Nigeria, Sir Chikwe Udensi has expressed optimism that when signed into law, the new Electoral Act will bring to an end electoral fraud which he says characterises Nigeria’s electoral system and end era of figure manipulation.

According to Sir Udensi, a chieftain of APGA, most of the electoral malpractices occur at the collation centres where he said figures are being mischievously changed to unduly favour some individuals.

Featuring on a radio programme, Open Parliament on Family Love FM Umuahia and ABN TV on Wednesday, Sir Chikwe Udensi, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign into law the Electoral Act passed into law by the National Assembly.

He (Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila) said specifically without any equivocation that the President will sign it into law. So we assume he will sign the new Electoral Act into law.

“If he signs it into law, it will be about the best thing that has happened to our electoral system. It will be a shift from the very fraudulent collation centres we have.

“Most of the fraudulent acts we have in the electoral system is perpetrated at the collation centres. When they gather at the collation centres, they change figures.

“If it is 20 that a candidate got from a collation centre, they can add zero (0) at the back of it.

“But with what we have now, where from the point that the actual voting is done, it is electronically transmitted to the server, that is the best thing. Collation centre is eliminated” he said.

No Sit-At-Home As Nnamdi Kanu Appears In Court Today, Says IPOB

Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s leader, is billed to appear in court on Thursday for the continuation of his trial.

Although IPOB had suspended its sit-at-home directive in the Southeast, the proscribed separatist group said the sit-at-home order will only be enforced on the days Kanu will appear in court.

But in a statement issued on Wednesday, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesperson, said there “will be no lockdown tomorrow in any part of Biafra land” as a result of Kanu’s court appearance.

We wish to inform Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom that our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will be in court tomorrow, December 2, 2021 in Abuja. We, therefore, urge Biafrans living in Abuja and its environs to come out en masse to solidarise with our leader,” the statement reads.

“Meanwhile, there will be no lockdown tomorrow in any part of Biafra land as a result of the court appearance. Biafrans resident in Biafra land, as well as visitors to Biafra land, are free to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation or intimidation.

IPOB also asked supporters of its movement to remain peaceful and law-abiding before and after the trial on Thursday.

Nnamdi Kanu May Not Be Releases Today, Lawyer Ejimakor Reveals

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nigerian Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu, and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says reports claiming his client will be freed today is “premature” and based on “assumption”.

Ejimakor said this in an interview with BBC News Pidgin published on the website on Thursday morning.

According to him, he is not happy with the rumours bandied about by most IPOB separatists.

ABN TV recalls that Kanu’s treason case was originally scheduled to be heard next year, but the court granted an abridgement of time after a motion was filed by the Nigerian separatist leader.

Justice Nyako had on November 10, 2021, adjourned the trial of Kanu till January 19 and 20, 2022, for trial.

But the court granted an abridgement of time after a motion was filed in that respect, and he is expected to appear in court today (Thursday).

Kanu, 54, was born at Afaraukwu, Abia State. He had been arrested in 2017 for demanding the secession of the South-East zone from the Nigerian State.

However, he jumped bail in June 2018 before leaving for the United Kingdom (UK), though he said that he fled because his life was no longer safe in Nigeria.

After more than three years abroad, Nigeria’s Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami at a press briefing in Abuja on June 29, 2021, announced that the IPOB leader was re-arrested in a foreign country and extradited to Nigeria.

Ejimakor had said the IPOB leader was re-arrested in Kenya and whisked to Nigeria.

Upon his re-arrest and extradition in June 2021, he was re-arraigned before Justice Nyako for terrorism-related charges brought against him by the AGF office. Kanu has since been remanded in the custody of the DSS in Abuja.

Some respected Igbo elders, led by Minister of Aviation in the First Republic, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, had recently visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock and requested the unconditional release of the detained secessionist leader.

Buhari had told them he would not want to interfere in the running of the judiciary but said he would consider their demand though “a heavy one.”

Respect My Age, Stop The Killings Now, Mbazulike Amaechi Urges Igbo Youths

0

An Elder Statesman, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, 92, has urged Igbo youths to respect his age and stop the wanton killings and destruction of property in the South East Zone.

Amaechi made the appeal on Wednesday in Abakaliki while briefing newsmen after a closed-door meeting with Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi.

The elder statesman said that he was in the state to brief the governor as the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum on his efforts to stop the incessant violence in the zone, especially by youths.

“I led a delegation of Igbo leaders to President Muhammadu Buhari on the growing trend of violence in the country especially in the southeast zone.

“He was happy with the visit and we are expecting positive results because peace and reconciliation cannot be achieved with violence,” he said.

The First Republic Minister regretted the reported killing of policemen and civilians in Ebonyi and other parts of the country and called for an end to such carnages.

“I plead with all agitating groups both known and unknown to give peace a chance for full restoration of security to the zone and the entire country.

“I am the only surviving minister of the first republic and plead that my age should be respected.

“I should be assisted to make peace in the zone and country before I join my maker.

“Youths are presently witnessing a period when the naira has no value, passengers disembark from their vehicles to cross security check points among other issues,” he said.

Amaechi recalled the events of the 1979 and 1999 general elections in the country and noted that Igbos missed the opportunities of clinching the presidential positions on both occasions.

“I believe the Igbos have qualified and respected individuals who can clinch and acquaint themselves creditably as the country’s president.

“I advise aspirants for the position from the zone to work towards ensuring that their respective political parties nominate an Igbo man for the position.

“”When Igbos emerge as the candidates of the respective parties, we would support whoever wins,” the nonagenarian said
