APC Didn’t Win Osun Governorship Poll In 2018 — Ex-House Of Reps Deputy Speaker

0

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff, has alleged that his party, the All Progressives Congress, did not win the 2018 Osun State governorship election, where the incumbent, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, emerged.

The former Deputy Speaker said this on Thursday after purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms.

Yussuff purchased the forms at the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja.

Speaking with newsmen, he boasted that nobody born of a woman can repeat what they did to him during the 2018 APC primaries.

He alleged that the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, was compensated with his current position because of the role he played in rigging him out.

According to Yusuff: “Yes, it was stated in the party constitution that a party can go for direct, indirect or consensus, but what was popular was indirect primary with list of delegates picking the candidate.

“The confusion surrounding the mode of primary in the APC started in Osun with the sole aim to rig Lasun out of the governorship election.

“The former governor of Zamfara State was the chairman of that committee but Senator Yari was not in Osun on the day of the primary.

“I challenge anyone to go and find out.

“Let me give you a glimpse of what happened.

“He (Yari) knew I was popular and when he was instructed to go and do a particular thing, he told them he discovered after investigation that I was popular and the task they were giving him might be difficult.

“The job was undertaken by the current Distinguished Senator, the Deputy Senate President, and (he) became the chairman overnight.

“If he likes, let him controvert this that one of the reasons he is the Deputy Senate President was that he was compensated with that job.

“Omo-Agege was in my hometown for four hours on the day of that primary and he actually conducted three out of the six wards on the day of that election.

“If I had decided to go to court, what happened in Zamfara would have happened in Osun.

“I had warned them on Thursday of the primary that if they rig me out, APC will not win the governorship election.

“They thought I was just blabbing, but we are all witnessed to what happened when the election was eventually held.

“Did they win?

“They didn’t.

“There was no way they can win.

“All that happened will be story for another day.”

Yusuff equally enumerated the roles he played in mediating in the crisis raging between the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and Oyetola, stressing that he was in the race to remedy the collapsing infrastructure in Osun State.

He said: “I want to run for the governorship election in 2022 and nobody born of woman can do what they did to me in 2018 again.

“And I know that I am going to be governor in 2022 and as I said in my closing remarks that nobody born of woman can stop me.

“It is not by violence, don’t misunderstood me.

“I don’t have thugs, don’t do violence.

“I have police escorts but I don’t carry them.

“But whoever tries to repeat what happened in 2018, has his generations to blame for it.”

Asked what Governor Oyetola did not do well that he was aspiring to correct, Yussuff said: “I would rather not criticise the Governor but say my own.

“Where I did my school certificate 42 years ago, the school is no longer presenting candidates for WAEC or NECO.

“I know this as a grassroots man and that is what I am going to change.

“I am a farmer and a big time farmer at that.

“I am going to change the system of farming in Osun State.

“I will also change how the health system is run and finally as a developmental economist, nobody can develop your area more than when you apply your expertise.

“I will create an economy for Osun and I know that I can do that.”

Reacting to the allegation, Omo-Agege said he would not join issues with Yussuff over his claim that he was rewarded with the exalted position for masterminding the rigging against him during the party primary.

His Media Aide, Yomi Odunuga, said: “The former Deputy Speaker is entitled to his opinion on what transpired.

“The Office of the Deputy Senate President will not join issues with him.”

The Kano State Government has revealed why the building housing the chamber of a lawyer of a former Governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, Nuraini Jimoh, was sealed.

The Kano State Bureau for Land Management offered the explanation for the action in a statement it issued on Thursday.

The sealing of the building was effected 24 hours after Shekarau’s All Progressives Congress faction defeated that of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in court.

But the Bureau for Land Management said the target of the action was the owner of the building and not the lawyer.

Murtala Shehu Umar, spokesperson of the Bureau, said: “The state government sealed property belonging to Isiyaka Rabi’u & Sons at C14/C16 Murtala Muhammad way through its committee on Land Use Charges.

“The committee issued a demand notice to the owner of the said property on the 14th September, 2021 and also served him with warning notice after a month reminding him to come and pay the outstanding ground rent that he did not pay from 2016 to 2021.

“We sealed about 30 properties yesterday 1/12/2021 in different parts of the state such as properties at Zoo road, Zaria road and Ibrahim Taiwo road.

“Also seven properties were sealed at Murtala Muhammad way who were served with demand and warning notice and are yet to respond. Therefore, the committee will continue to seal any property that his owner refuses to comply with the Land use act.

“As Land custodian our record shows that property in plot C14/C16 belongs to Isiyaka Rabi’u & Sons not Barrister Nuraini Jimo. Our concern is the owner of the property not who is renting the property.”

The 63-year-old will later today meet the players prior to his first match as Man Utd interim boss against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Caretaker boss, Michael Carrick, left the club after the win, being his second in the three games he oversaw at the club.

Addressing the press on Friday, Rangnick said, “It is one of the biggest clubs, if not the biggest club in the world. It is a big challenge, but I am more than happy to work with this group of players.

“I mean obviously I have watched the latest games, I also watched out of interest the games against Liverpool and Manchester City, so I am pretty well acquainted with what is going on at the club.

“The major target for me is just to bring more balance to the team. We conceded two goals yesterday and if you look at the total number of goals conceded, it is on average of two a game.

“That is just too much. Those are not the kind of games you need every day. In football to me, it’s to minimize the coincidence factor.

“It’s about winning games and, in the end, I’m very ambitious. We want to make the most successful season that is possible. Right now, we have to be realistic. The difference between us and the top three is big. But let’s see.”

Omicron Variant: Osun Govt Warns Residents

0

The Osun State Government has warned residents to take personal responsibility for their safety as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus pandemic becomes a source of concern for health bodies globally.

This warning became necessary in the light of the revelation that Nigeria now has three reported cases of the Omicron variant of the deadly coronavirus.

Warning the residents not to let down their guards yet, the state government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode reiterated its readiness to compliment the efforts of the federal government to ensure the safety and well being of Nigerians.

Citing the World Health Organization statistics, Egbemode disclosed that the new variant has a large number of mutations, and early evidences suggested an increased reinfection risk.

Egbemode explained that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, through genomic surveillance has identified and confirmed Nigeria’s first cases of the B.1.1.529 SARS-CoV-2 lineage, now known as the Omicron variant.

In her words, “Samples obtained for the stipulated day-two test for all travelers to Nigeria were positive for this variant in three persons with a history of travel to South Africa.

“By implication, a new brand of risk has been unleashed, demanding every citizen to review his commitment to the safety protocols against Covid-19.

“To give an idea of the severity, countries like Canada and even Indonesia are beginning to take stringent measures, which also include imposition of travel ban on a number of other countries including Nigeria.”

The Information Commissioner, who stated that the state government understood the implications of another lockdown now that the state has not recovered from the effects of the last action, stated that it is counting on residents to take personal responsibility for their safety in manners that afforded them the freedom to conduct their businesses within safe boundaries.

Relating to individuals who have taken the full doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, she urged them to still protect themselves at all times by putting on a face mask in public places, avoiding crowded spaces and disinfecting hands and surfaces with alcohol-based sanitizers.

She added that being fully vaccinated with the two jabs of the vaccine only reduces their susceptibility to COVID-19 but does not rule out their chances of contracting and infecting others who have not been vaccinated.

Egbemode maintained that since the government places high premium on the safety and security of citizens, it will continue to take critical steps that would protect citizens from actual or potential threats.

Weakness Of Government Causing Security Conflicts – Goodluck Jonathan

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that security conflicts are happening in the country due to weakness of the lower tiers of government

Jonathan, who spoke while delivering a graduation lecture at the National Institute for Security Studies in Abuja on Thursday, lamented that the local government system in the country was dead.

He, however, urged all the states to take deliberate steps to revive the local government system.

“Most of these security conflicts are happening because of the weakness of the lower tiers of government. The local government system that is supposed to interphase with communities directly and prevent this is dead in this country.

“Since the local governments are mainly managed by the states now because we are told that some states even take their money. I think the states must have strong departments that will coordinate the affairs of local governments.

“And these departments must have regular meetings with traditional rulers and community development committees,” he said.

Germany has donated a total of 5,164,643 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nigeria over the past seven weeks.

The most recent badge arrived in Nigeria on 29 November 2021, containing 2,240,243 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Birgitt Ory on Friday said “Nobody is safe until everybody is safe. We must continue to work together to ensure access to vaccines.

“Therefore, Germany is a strong supporter of COVAX as well as the co-founder and second-largest donor of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT Accelerator),” he said.

According to him, the German Government is working to ensure the fair and efficient distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

He said Germany will pass on 100 million doses, primarily to developing countries, the majority of which will be distributed through the COVAX vaccine platform.

“The pandemic can only be overcome if it is brought under control all over the world.

“Germany, therefore, opted at an early stage to focus on finding joint responses to the pandemic in a spirit of solidarity.

“Germany co-founded the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT Accelerator) last year. ACT-A promotes equitable access for all to vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics and aims to strengthen health systems throughout the world,” he said.

In addition to donating vaccines, Germany is the second-largest donor to the ACT Accelerator at present and has provided 2.2 billion euros to date. Most of this support is going to the international vaccine platform COVAX.

At least 124 persons have been arrested and sentenced to community service for open defecation in Ogun State.

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Ola Oresanya, disclosed this to journalists Thursday in Abeokuta.

Oresanya warned drivers of articulated vehicles and their cohorts to stop defecating on medians and roadsides while on stopovers.

Oresanya disclosed the state had mandated all petrol stations and eateries in the state to make their conveniences available for public use as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Ikpeazu’s Aide Didn’t Send Flight Tickets, Service Fee Before Using My Image Without Authorisation — Ruffcoin Nwa-Aba

…….He’s Driven By Money Over Efforts To Promote Aba Brand, Nwaogu Replies

A Lagos based artiste, Fortune Murakor Emelogu, popularly known as Ruffcoin Nwa Aba has opened up on the fallout between him and Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu, a Special Adviser on Job Creation to governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

The artiste had earlier called out the governor’s aide for using his picture to promote an event without due authorisation or made any payment in that regard.

www.abntv.com.ng

Narrating to ABN TV on Thursday on what transpired between him and the aide of the governor, Ruffcoin said Mr. Nwaogu earlier in November reached out to him on the use of his picture to promote an event tagged, ‘Abia Entertainers Award’.

According to Ruffcoin, he had declined Mr. Nwaogu’s request to make use of his image to promote the event without making payment.

Apart from the fee, Ruffcoin had listed a business and two economy flight tickets to and fro Lagos as the requirements to be fulfilled by Mr. Nwaogu to enable him and his team appear on the said event.

After he received that text message on the 6th of November, he did not reach out to me or any member of my team until three or two weeks later when I saw a post on social media, Instagram with my picture, saying that I will be performing live at the event.

“I reached out to him, asking why he should make use of my picture without getting back to me as requirements we gave him.

“He never asked for a contract, an invoice to make any payment, he never even got back to us that he agrees with our requirements on going forward with the event” he said.

According to Ruffcoin, he had instructed the governor’s aide to take down all the publicity materials, including billboards that have his image until his terms to be at the event are fulfilled.

Ruffcoin accused Mr. Nwaogu of having no intentions of paying him for the service, stating that no commitment was made to the effect of fulfilling his conditions.

He described as laughable the promise by the governor’s aide that he (Ruffcoin) was going to be honoured with an icon award at the event, insisting that payment should be made for his appearance.

Ruffcoin said the window for the organisers of the event to take down his images being used to promote it has closed, stating that he would take legal action.

Reacting to the allegation, Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu in a chat with ABN TV said the programme was designed to recognise young people in the society especially in the SME sector who have carved a niche for themselves in their chosen endeavours.

According to the Governor’s aide, the entrepreneur and creative award was not designed to have an input of government but people-driven where award recipients will be nominated by the people and voted by the people in transparent manner.

According to him, when the nominations came in, he began to speak with stakeholders within and outside the country to fund the project, saying the government cannot finance it.

He said 25 of the categories will not only be recognised but given cash reward to be sourced from individuals and corporate organizations.

According to the governor’s aide, pledges have been made and money coming in, ranging from N1m, 500k to be distributed to those who will win in the awards.

He highlighted that he spoke to Ruffcoin as someone who has been promoting Aba for a long time to be part of the planning process after he had earlier involved him on an engagement outside the country.

He said Ruffcoin responded with all kinds of lamentations on how he has issues with the state government.

He (Nwaogu) said he appealed to Ruffcoin to support young tailors, garment and shoemakers and others in SME by being part of the vision as a way of raising hope for them.

According to Nwaogu, despite being a leading city in SME, Aba has no branded event, stating that the occasion was branded to be the first of its kind in the city.

Upon persuasion, Ruffcoin agreed to be part of it and began to speak with other artists, Nwaogu said.

He however revealed to Ruffcoin that it was not a government affair but fully driven by individuals, maintaining that the government did not put money to it.

I met with Chima Anyaso in Lagos who is the President of Umu Aba Connect in Lagos. They love the idea. In fact Umu Aba Connect alone is sponsoring about six categories of awards.

“They took six. They were so excited and because it is so transparent that they are going to give money to the winners. They are not going to give us money. They were so excited” he said.

He further revealed that Umu Aba Connect agreed to pick Ruffcoin’s bill, in addition to the 500k they sent for logistics aside the categories of award they are to sponsor.

Mr. Nwaogu further said Ruffcoin later reached out to him when the publicity for the event commenced and expressed dissatisfaction that Chima Anyaso had not reached him.

He said he instructed the publicity team to drop Ruffcoin’s image from the publicity materials. He says the ones that have his image are the ones posted before the concern was raised.

He said even billboards and lampholder billboards which have been paid for and printed were not placed because of Ruffcoin’s complain about not being paid.

He further said that a disclaimer has been written to the effect of non appearance of Ruffcoin at the event which was sent to him to vet before publication.

He expressed dissatisfaction that Ruffcoin is placing money over efforts to promote Aba brand, saying it will count against him in the future.

He said he indicated interest to pay Ruffcoin his N1m service fee but Ruffcoin declined, rather resorted to insulting him.

He said all efforts to appeal to Ruffcoin to see reasons on why the programme was being hosted proved abortive.

In An Amended Charge, EFCC Re-arraigns Fayose, Others Over Criminal Breach Of Trust

0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, re-arraigned former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, and his company, Spotless Limited, before a Federal High Court, Lagos.

Fayose and his company were re-arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke for alleged money laundering and non-declaration of his assets.

In the amended charge, Fayose and one Abiodun Agbele, who is also standing trial on alleged money laundering offences before another division of the court, were alleged to have on June 17, 2014, taken possession of N1.219 billion to fund Fayose’s 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Ekiti State.

They were accused of committing criminal breach of trust, theft and stealing of public funds.

They were also alleged to have on the same June 17, 2014, without going through financial institutions, received $5 million from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who was the Minister of State for Defence.

In the charge, the EFCC alleged that Fayose on April 7, 2015, retained N300 million in his fixed deposit account domiciled in a bank.

Fayose and his company, Spotless Limited, were also alleged to have between June 17 and August 4, 2014, taken control of N317 million, and deposited it in the same bank with a different account number.

The former Ekiti State governor was also alleged to have between June 26 and August 27, 2014, took control of N305, 760,000, which formed part of proceeds of unlawful act. He was also accused of procuring Abiodun Agbele and a company, De-privateer Limited, to retain N719,490,000 in the bank.

The EFCC further alleged that Fayose used N270 million and N1.15 billion respectively to acquire property at Plot 1504, Yedsema Street, Maitama, Abuja, from one Rabi Kundili, and Chalets 3, 4, 6 and 9, at Plot 100, Tiyamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, in the name of JJ Technical Services.

He was also alleged to have between October 16 and December 31, 2018 failed to declare his assets and property by not completing the declaration form during investigation.

The offences, according to the EFCC, are contrary to sections 15 (2)(d); 1 and 16 (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended, and punishable under Section 15 (3) (4); 16 (2) (b) of the same Act.

He was also alleged to have acted contrary to Section 27(1)(3)(c) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.

Fayose denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all 11 counts of charges.

Prior to his re-arraignment, Mrs. Joanne Tolulope, the 11th prosecution witness, while being cross-examined by the defence counsel, Mr. Ola Olanipekun (SAN), affirmed that her company, Still Earth Limited only dealt with Agbele.

Meanwhile, the trial continues today, as the EFCC will be calling its 12th witness.
