Gunmen Who Attacked MPF Base Disguised As Military Officers — Abia Police Command

Abia State Police Command has reacted to the attack at MPF Base, beside it’s headquarters in Umuahia at the early hours of Monday.

ABN TV had brought you a report that undisclosed number of gunmen attacked the command headquarters, killing at least one person.

Reacting to the incident in a chat with ABN TV on Monday, spokesperson of the command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna said the gunmen who operate in gun trucks were in full military camouflage, disguising as men of the military.

According to SP Ogbonna, the attackers who struck at 1am had opened fire at the policemen at the gate of Police Headquarters.

He said when the gallant police officers saw that the attackers were not military men, they returned fire which repelled the gunmen from carrying out their dastardly intentions.

The PPRO said the attackers fled the scene with bullet wounds.

“Regrettably, one of the policemen, one Inspector Friday Adam who is on Operation Restore Peace in the command lost his life” he added.

SP Ogbonna, therefore, called on Abians, residents, operators of medical facilities, as well as the general public within and outside the state, to report to the police or other security agencies of any person presented with bullet injury.

He said the command is intensifying measures to track down the perpetrators of this dastardly attack.

Governor Ikpeazu Releases N3.2bn For Payment Of Abia Workers, Pensioners (VIDEO)

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has authorised the release of the sum of N3.2bn for the payment of workers in the state, pensioners as well of subvention for some agencies of the government.

This is contained in a release on Monday signed by Barr Eze Chikamnayo, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Abia State.

The sum of N828 million has been mapped out for the payment of the salary arrears of Abia Health Management Board Workers, he said.

Also, the sum of N983 million is to be used for the salary arrears of Secondary School Teachers while 12 months arrears for Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu ACETA will also be paid.

The governor also granted 4 months subvention for Abia State Polytechnic while Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH is to get 2 months subvention. In the same vein, Abia State University got 3 months Subvention.

The College of Health Technology got 5 months subvention and N200 million grant to facilitate relocation to permanent site.

Similarly, the sum of N520 million will go for payment of pensioners in the state.

According to the statement, payments for these commenced on Thursday last week.

The government also called on management of the various Parastatals captured above to always ensure strict compliance and pay the workers accordingly.

Ikpeazu To Present 2022 Appropriation Bill To Abia Assembly Tuesday

Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu will on Tuesday present for consideration the 2022 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday, December 14th, 2021.

This is contained in a statement on Monday signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka.

He gave the venue and time of budget proposal presentation to be Abia State House of Assembly and 11am respectively.

According to the release, the Deputy Governor, Secretary to State Government, Members of the State Executive Council, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the Deputy Governor, Executive Secretary of the Abia State Planning Commission, and other relevant government officials are requested to be part of the event.

Dr. Uche Ogah Congratulates ABN TV Director, Okali On Distinguished Presbyterian Award

Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah has congratulated the Director ABN TV, Ifeanyi Okali on his recent award as Distinguished Presbyterian by Presbyterian Young People’s Association of Nigeria, PYPAN South Central Synod.

Dr. Ogah described the award as a recognition of selfless service in God’s vineyard by Mr. Okali.

The award ceremony which took place on Friday coincided with the 2021 Shabach Da Lord and 25th anniversary of the Association in Umuahia.

Sodje Okays Rohr’s Sack, Backs Eguaveon’s Appointment

Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has supported the decision to sack Gernot Rohr and approved the appointment of Austine Eguaveon as new interim head coach of the team.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced the sacking of Rohr on Sunday night.

“The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria,” general secretary of the NFF Mohammed Sanusi said in a statement.

“We also want to thank the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their collaboration and guidance all through.”

Renowned Interpol Systems Consultant in Nigeria, Sir Chikwe Udensi has said the government of Abia, his state rejected his free donation of equipment and software to tackle insecurity.

Speaking on Love FM’s Open Parliament in Umuahia on Wednesday monitored by ABN TV, he remarked that several calls placed to the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in this regard was not answered.

He stated that he placed a call on his deputy, Ude Oko Chukwu who had initially promised to call him for further discussion but never did.

The Deputy Governor was angry and said, listen let me get the young man who is involved with homeland security so that he can discuss with you, he never called or got in touch with me” he said.

He said further, “I reached the Deputy Governor and said Deputy-Governor I can’t reach your governor but I am able to reach you, thanks for taking my call.

“I need to give free equipment. There are tools for every profession. You can’t be talking about security without the tool.

“That I was going to give some equipment and softwares that I use but they didn’t floow up” he said.

He also faulted the alleged rejection of grants from CBN by the government of Abia State, calling for a change of attitude for proper service of the people of Abia.

Arch. Ugoji of ESOCS Umuahia Province passed on at the age of 83, His Eminence Elder Dr. Napo Emuchay, SAG and Secretary to the Holy Order said in a statement on Sunday.

Governor Ikpeazu who made the call on Saturday while speaking during the 21st Coronation Anniversary of the first Deputy Chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers and conferment of chieftaincy titles to deserving individuals at the Ndi Oko Ogo Palace of the Paramount Ruler of Abiriba Kingdom in Ohafia LGA of the state, HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu (IV), extolled the traditional ruler and members of his cabinet for ensuring peace and progress in his kingdom.

The Governor who was represented by prominent businessman, Chief Okey Ahaiwe said: “security is a collective responsibility and other traditional rulers should emulate the Enachioken and his council members who work hard daily to ensure that they set up and sustain structures to protect the Abiriba Kingdom as well as ensure peace within and with neighboring communities as government cannot do it alone.

“On our part, we will continue to support peaceful communities in the state with development projects and I am also aware of the efforts being made by the people of Abiriba to support our developmental strides through self-help. I applaud the commitment of the people of Abiriba kingdom, their hard-work and spirit of enterprise wherever found and will continue to partner with them to achieve our common goals of rapid development within a secure and peaceful environment”, he said.

In his response, Eze Kalu Ogbu thanked the Governor for ensuring that the state remains one of the most peaceful in the country as well as his giant strides in the development of the state. “Our people appreciate the love Governor Ikpeazu has shown us particularly with the completion of the first phase of Abiriba ring road along Ugwuezi road Abiriba, provision of street lights in our community, classroom blocks and appointment of teachers to man our schools. Gunmen Attack Police Headquarters In Abia, Kill One

An undisclosed number of gunmen in the early hours of Monday attacked the headquarters of Abia State Police Headquarters in Umuahia the state capital, killing one person.

The victim according to a reliable source who spoke with ABN TV is an Inspector of Police who was on guard duty on the road in front of the headquarters.

The attackers were said to have struck around after 1am on Monday but were repelled by the superior firepower of the policemen on duty.

They were said to have unsuccessfully attempted to overrun the station.

When contacted, the PPRO of Abia State Police Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna said he was yet to be briefed on the development.

ABN TV was denied access to the facility as the place has been cordoned off.

Fuel Scarcity: Abia Govt Directs IPMAN To Resume Supply Or Risk Sanction

Following the scarcity of petroleum products that has hit Abia, over withdrawal of supply by tanker drivers, the state government has directed the drivers under the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to immediately resume supply or face sanction.

This is contained in a release on Saturday signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem.

The state government however did not disclose the nature of sanction it intends to met out to IPMAN in the state under the leadership of Mr Bobby Eberechi Dick.

Government has observed with dismay the scarcity of petroleum products in the state following the withdrawal of supply of petroleum product by tanker drivers under the union of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Abia state chapter led by Mr Bobby Eberechi Dick.

“Government hereby directs the union to immediately resume supply of petroleum product to Aba and it’s environs , failing which Government will melt out necessary sanctions on the Union” the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem cautioned.

The government also directed the Commissioner for Works to resume palliative work on the road leading to the depot at Osisioma Aba at a date not later than Tuesday 14th December.

Ezem says this is irrespective of the directive by the Federal Ministry of Works to stop initial attempt by Abia State Government to work on that road on the reason that it is a Federal Road.

The government warned that it will not fold its hand and watch her citizens and residents suffer untold hardship as a result of human factor.
