Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has denied reports that his decision to managed the Nigerian team was because of the money involved in it.

Rohr, whose contract was recently terminated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), made this known in an interview with ESPN.

The German tactician, who was replaced by Austine Eguavoen as Super Eagles interim coach, stated that he has his reputation to protect and can never be corrupt.

“No, never,” Rohr responded when asked if anyone ever offered him money to invite a player.

“They know me in Africa and in Europe for a long time that I’m part of these people who can never be corrupted. My reputation is there. To take one player to help him in some clubs is something we did, but only in the interest of Nigerian football, only to help the players, and never for money.

“If I was in Nigeria for money, I could have left a long time ago. Instead, I proposed a 20 per cent cut in my salary because of the pandemic. But even then, the salary is not always coming — and still not coming.

“I’m surprised to see how Nigeria treats their coach. It’s not only for me; it’s also for other coaches. We’re not paid and we’re sacked.”

Katsina State Governor and Chairman, North West Governors’ Forum, Aminu Masari has called on Nigerians to unite and fight criminals troubling the nation.

The governor made the call in Sokoto on Thursday when he led a delegation including Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on a condolence visit to Sokoto over the recent bandits’ attack that claimed the lives of at least twenty-three travellers.

He said the bandits terrorising Nigerians are not aliens but human beings and as such Nigerians should rise and defend themselves against the marauding bandits.

Governor Masari questioned the rationale for not allowing Nigerians to carry arms while the suspected criminals are everywhere bearing arms.

Also speaking, Governor Ganduje advised the Federal Government to deplore technology in reclaiming the nation’s forest and monitor the activities going on across the nation’s forest reserves.

In his response, Governor Aminu Tambuwal thanked the governors for their visit.

The Sokoto State governor advocated for the training and arming of youths of the affected communities to serve as special forces to complement the efforts of the conventional security forces.

According to him, this will help stem the tide of insecurity within the region.

The House of Representatives has urged security agencies to remove multiple checkpoints on highways leading to the South East, ahead of the yuletide.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Obinnna Chidoka (Anambra-PDP) at plenary on Thursday in Abuja.

Moving the motion, Chidoka said that security checkpoints on the Lagos-Onitsha Road were up to 60, causing untold hardship to motorists.

He alleged that the checkpoints had turned into tollgates were motorists were extorted.

“These multiple checkpoints, couple with the terrible condition of the roads cause unnecessary traffic buildup on the roads with untold hardship to users,” he said.

The House thereafter, directed that the checkpoints be removed forthwith to facilitate free flow of traffic to and from the South East.

It equally mandated the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to deploy men and materials to ensure free traffic flow between Asaba and Onitsha among others.

The Director ABN TV, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali on Wednesday handed over the award of Igbere TV Man of the Year to the chairman Cubana Group, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana.

At a brief ceremony in Abuja, the Anambra born socialite was flanked by friends and associates while he received the award.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Obi Cubana had missed the Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Award which took place at Sheraton Hotels Abuja on November 2, 2021 where he was scheduled for the presentation.

Handing over the award, Mr. Okali who was chairman of the award planning committee applauded Obi Cubana for his philanthropic gestures especially in touching the lives of young people and the less privileged people in the society.

According to Okali, the award is a recognition that the businessman is conscious of his environment and needs of the people, urging him not to relent.

Receiving the award, Obi Cubana expressed gratitude to the management of Igbere TV for nominating him for the award which he said he so much cherishes.

He pledged to continue whatever thing he has done in the past, particularly humanitarian works, empowerment and business mentorship that earned him the award.

He says the recognition is an expectation to do more, assuring that he would raise the tempo of his people-oriented activities.

In his remarks, the Director Igbere TV, James Anyalekwa said Obi Cubana garnered over a million from among Nigerian youths whose lives he has in one way or the other touched.

According to Mr. Anyalekwa, the massive vote cast in the online electioneering which lasted over 4 weeks was a show of solidarity from youths of the country and beyond for Obi Cubana.

Explaining reasons for the 2021 edition of Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Award, Mr. Anyalekwa, said it is for the dual purpose of celebrating excellence among Nigerians who have done something exceptional in affecting the lives of others as well as identifying and impacting the lives of less privileged persons especially some senior citizens of the country who have no roofs over their heads.

The two core objectives of the 2021 Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Award is to celebrate excellence among those who have positively affected the society.

“Also, we have identified six senior citizens from six geopolitical zones of the country who have difficulty in terms of accommodation. We have moved round the country and identified them and to use this platform to affect their lives in the 2022 by developing a low cost housing for six of them in six geopolitical zones of the country” he said.

High point of the event was the unveiling of the prototype low cost housing by Igbere TV management and award organizing committee.

Get Down To Work – Kwara PDP Slams Gov Abdulrazaq

0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kwara State has admonished Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to get down to the serious work of governance instead of throwing wild allegations around and hunting for imaginary enemies.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Tunde Ashaolu, said this in a statement released in Ilorin, in reaction to some allegations made against previous administrations in the State by the Governor while playing host to his Borno State counterpart, Baba Gana Zulum.

“We find it quite strange that when Governor Abdulrazaq could have seized that opportunity to show off his own achievements to his celebrated guest, he instead decided to repeat the same story that he has told everyone since he came to office, blaming past administration for his failures and hoping that this would explain to his host why he has nothing to show.

“Governor Zulum must have intimidated Mallam Abdulrazaq so much that he felt the need to explain his failure, even in such a stuttering and incoherent manner,” he added.

The statement further noted that it should have occurred to Mallam Abdulrazaq that if his manifestly superior counterpart had also decided to continue to blame his predecessors, he would not have accomplished so much even in the face of daunting security challenges.

“But we can understand Mallam Abdulrazaq’s state of mind. He sees himself as the champion of his family in an imagined feud for supremacy with the Sarakis.

“This is why he could not resist the opportunity to exploit even that moment of courtesy to traduce his imaginary enemy.

“Kwarans did not vote for you to the State’s chief blame-monger or to settle perceived family scores. They voted for you because they thought you would be better. Now they know better,” he stated.

“Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq claimed that because of the failings of past administration, it would take fifteen years to solve the problem in education in the state.

“How laughable. Thank God he was talking to a man who knows better. Of all the governors in Nigeria, Zulum has the best excuses not to do anything, blaming insecurity and claiming that because of the devastating activities of Boko Haram, it would take one hundred years to solve the problem of education in Borno.

“But he did not do that. Instead he got down to work and showed what purposeful leadership can achieve even in the face of daunting challenges.

“Our Governor should have been aware of this. He should have used the opportunity of that visit to ask his Borno State counterpart for tips on how to govern a state instead of trying to recruit him into his pity party,” he further stated.

One 47-year-old Security guard, Mr Jacob Obomerelu has been arrested by officers of Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps over his alleged, having canal knowledge of his 18 years old biological daughter Modupe Jacob.

This is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday by the spokesman of the NSCDC in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi.

Babawale said the incident occurred at the suspects’ workplace, 24, Awolowo Street, Tanke Ilorin which also serves as his residence on Monday 6th December 2021.

The statement reads, “On Tuesday 7th December 2021, we were tipped off by one Alhaja Mariam Bello, who claimed that Modupe who happened to be her adopted daughter was raped by her biological father, adding that the victim used to live with her at her Isale Gaa Akanbi residence but moved out to stay with her dad after a little misunderstanding between her and the victim”.

He disclosed further that, “Modupe had a little misunderstanding with Alhaja who adopted her in 2017 when her mother separated with Jacob and since then was staying with the woman.

“The victim joined her father in the gatehouse where he was working as a security guard and it was during the night of her first stay with her father that the incident occurred”.

In her statement, Modupe narrated how she begged her father not to rape her. But all her plea fell on her father’s deaf ear who after the act later gave her 1000 naira to buy drugs to flush her system.

In his confessional statement, Jacob, who hails from Edo State and father of four children admitted to have committed the crime but blame it on the devil as he was not really aware that he was doing it.

In the meantime, the Kwara NSCDC image-maker stated that the state’s Commandant Iskilu Ayinla Makinde has been briefed of the incident and the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of the investigations.
