Section Of Mmuri Road In Bad Shape, Travellers Urged To Use Alternative Route To Access Ohafia (Photos, Video)

A section of Mmuri river road along Umuahia-Bende-Abam-Ohafia expressway is said to be in bad shape as a result of the ongoing construction along the road.

The affected spot was worsened by the Saturday heavy downpour which caused the graded spot to be muddy, making it difficult for motorists travelling along the road to pass.

ABN TV gathered that Heartland Construction Company, the contractor handing the road has in the past 4 months been carrying out construction work on the road.

Motorists coming from Umuahia are therefore advised to use Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia road to access Ebem Ohafia instead of Bende-Abam-Ohafia road to avoid hitches on the affected spot.

Meanwhile efforts are ongoing by the contactor to fix the affected spot to allow free flow of traffic on the road.

2023 Presidency: Igbo Group Accuses AGF Malami Of Instigating EFCC Against Sen. Kalu To Stop Him

0

As the race on who will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 commences, a group, Igbo Progressive Initiative (IPI), has accused the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation,(AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN), of instigating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC against the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to truncate his presidential bid.

The group which is made up of Igbo people in the diaspora alleged that the EFCC  supervised by the Office of the AGF, had made efforts to frustrate the credibility of the eminent businessman and former Abia state governor.

Dr. Raphael Agwu, President General of the group in a statement on Sunday, stated that Malami alongside Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were manipulating the EFCC in a desperate bid to stop Orji Kalu from succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “It is a shame that the Attorney General of Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami is manipulating the EFCC to concoct fresh charges against Orji Uzor Kalu in a  bid to stop him from succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari. It is and have always been about 2023 presidential election.

“Malami having noticed that Kalu is President Muhammadu Buhari’s favorite in 2023 is conniving with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo by using the EFCC against Orji Uzor Kalu who is generally accepted by all Nigerians.

“It is imperative to remind Malami that power is transient. He should be reminded that he won’t be AGF forever. Another government would come and investigate his dirty deals. We know him too well and we have his records. Malami was not rich before becoming the AGF. Since he became the AGF, he has been buying landed properties across the country with public funds. We know banks and places he has starked money .

“It is only in a country like Nigeria where corrupt element like Malami would abuse his office by using it to intimidate others. We are aware that he is working with  Yemi Osinbajo and others who are afraid of the Senate Chief Whip.

Speaking further he said, “Before Malami puts his head in Orji Kalu’s affairs,  he should ask questions on what happened to others. Kalu is a destined child and anyone trying to stop him will be stopped first . Those who tried to tarnish his image with EFCC and prison has learnt their lessons. Unless Malami is deaf and blind he should continue instigating the EFCC. People like Kalu who is an employer of labour; a man who doled out 500 million naira and 100 million naira to his former party and Olusegun Obasanjo concurrently in 1998 deserves some respect.

“If Malami loves Nigeria and President Buhari as he claims, he should throw his weight behind the President’s choice. Kalu is a good man and the most detrabilized Nigerian alive. He has the economic and political capacity to lead the country.  He is the only man from the South that can unite this country and hold it together,  “He said

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed why he will not criticise the serving governor, Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration, saying it’s for some personal reasons.

The Senate Chief Whip stated this when he paid Governor Okezie Ikpeazu a courtesy visit at his country home in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA.

This governor is my mother’s son, that’s why you can never see my media group attacking him because my mother will not agree.

We’ve had our discussion, we discussed the good, the bad and the ugly. We were naked, the both of us saw face to face, we discussed. He told me the truth and I also told him the truth.

“I reminded him that when I was the governor, I used to go with him to ANPP House, APGA and I was not partisan. I want him to be that kind of governor. Let him not be a Governor that will limit where to enter. Let entry point not be a barrier to you.

“This is our state, after politics both of us would be in the old Governor’s club.”

Discussing about 2023 general elections, the former Abia governor reminded Ikpeazu to join the Abia South senatorial race.

“You better join me in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the next 15 months.

“This is bipartisanship and I am not afraid of anyone, I speak my mind at all time. I told him the day I came with the Senate President that we need him in the Senate. So, the ball is on you and the game is on you.”

On the state of roads in Abia, he appealed to Governor Ikpeazu to consider reconstructing the Umuahia-Uzoakoli-Alayi-Igbere-Ohafia road.

In his words: “Our people have requested for the road from Umuahia to Uzuakoli, Alayi to Igbere and also goes to Abiriba to be done.

“I have put One billion naira on the road. Please find the contractors doing all these your fine roads here to come and do that road. You said you have sent someone there but I said no, find those doing this particular one here to do that road. May God keep us alive.

“To our people, there’s no quarrels, nobody should harm anyone. There is no Senator in Abia who had done a cross constituency job except me. Those claiming they have done cross constituency job in my constituency, it’s not true. You can open the budget. I have given two roads, one in Ariaria market in shoe maker and another one is the Industrial Layout also in Ariaria market. I expected my colleagues to be building roads and in everywhere in their constituencies.

“I want to thank the Governor, I will never praise nor criticize him in public but I thank him for been steadfast. When you are a leader, you are a dumping ground. When you come out, the people will appreciate you.

” I hope history will write you on the good side. History is a very big thing, like I told the governor that he knows I can’t praise nor condemn him but I leave him for history and I’ve told him so many thing that would make history to lead us well,” he said.

We Want Military To Decimate Bandits Before Rainy Season, Says Northern Governors

0

The Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, has said that Northern governors expect that bandits would be decimated in the region before rainy season.

The Plateau governor said this in Abuja, expressing delight that the military will now be able to deploy Tucano jets against terrorists following their recent re-categorisation.

He lamented that kidnapping has become more prominent in Plateau State.

“Well, in terms of security, some of the issues we raised with the President last year, we’re already beginning to see progress. You’ll recall that we mentioned that we are very eager to see the use of the Tucano jets so that we can have massive engagement with all the bandits.

“Part of it was also the status of some of these bandits around and you can see that already the federal government has described them as terrorists, the military is now going to do full engagement. These were some of the issues that were raised in our communique in Kaduna.

“So, we’re already beginning to see and we’re also getting prepared in the north for such action, that’s what we’re expecting. Let us do massive action that will ensure that within the first quarter of this year, people will have hope that we’re going to live peacefully in all the parts of the north because we’re expecting these actions before the next rainy season,” he said.

Lalong said as an agrarian region, the Plateau State government wants its citizens to be able to access their farm as insecurity has kept them away.

“These are some of the issues that we’re meeting and preparing for.

“The last part of it is the engagement of traditional rulers. Of course, we’ve sent a bill to the National Assembly on the role of traditional rulers and we’re hoping that we’ll pursue that on behalf of Northern governors to ensure that this bill gets through so that traditional rulers will also complement the efforts of the government in addressing insecurity in their various states,” he said.

The Burden Of Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene Road Will Be Over Soon, Rep. Onuigbo Assures Constituents

0

Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, Honourable Sam Onuigbo has assured the people of his constituency that the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene road will soon be completed for their use, to end the nightmare associated with the use of the road.

Honourable Sam Onuigbo
Honourable Sam Onuigbo

Hon. Onuigbo who spoke at stakeholders meeting which took place MOUAU Women Association Centre on Thursday said he has been in touch with the federal authorities since assumption of office as a member of House of Representatives to ensure that the road is constructed.

According to him, when he was elected into the House of Representatives in 2015, the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene federal road had completely collapsed to the extent that most parts of it were impassable.

He said he committed everything within his power to ensure that respite is brought to the people.

The first step I took was to move a motion on Thursday, May 26, 2016, calling for urgent attention on the road. I followed this up by seeking for and having a meeting with the then Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, His Excellency Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.

“At that meeting, I presented the Honourable Minister with pictorial evidence of the sad and deplorable state of the road and made two requests: that the Minister directs the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), to carry out a palliative work on the failed sections of the road; and secondly that action is taken to end the annual ritual of carrying out palliative works on the road, by effecting a total reconstruction of the road.

“In a letter dated June 15, 2016, and signed by the Coordinating Director of Highways, Engineer Bala Danshehu on behalf of the Honourable Minister, the Minister affirmed his commitment to ensuring that first, palliative works are carried out on the failed sections of the road, and then to ensure that total reconstruction is carried out” he said.

The lawmaker said that the contractors, Messrs. Hartland Nigeria Limited and Raycon & Company Nigeria Limited, mobilized to site during the last quarter of 2019, adding that the pace of work was very slow due to the inadequate release of funds by the Federal Government.

Hon. Onuigbo said he has continued to push for increase in funding during every budget cycle with relative success, noting that paucity of funds a major challenge.

He therefore revealed that he sought alternative means of funding to realize the objective of tackling once and for all the deplorable state of the road.

Thankfully, on October 27, 2021, the Federal Government approved the provision of alternative means of funding for the road, under the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Road Tax Credit Scheme. This move has shone a huge light on the possibility of finally reconstructing this all-important road and has raised our hopes tremendously.

“For this, I am profoundly grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and his administration and the Honourable Minister for making this possible. I am not only thankful to President Buhari’s administration, but also to the totality of my constituents who have shown their unwavering faith in me, knowing that like them, I too bear the pains of the bad state of the road” he added.

While appealing for patience, he reiterated that he is determined to ensure that the road is completed in due time.
