AFCON 2021: “Why Super Eagles Players Are More Motivated Now” – Eguavoen

Austin Eguavoen has explained why Super Eagles players are more motivated now since he took charge.

Eguavoen led the Eagles to a winning start at this year’s AFCON following their 1-0 win against Egypt.

The team put in a determined performance against the seven-time African champions who paraded Mohamed Salah.

And speaking on what is responsible for the renewed motivation in the team, Eguavoen told NFF TV:”I just made them feel at home. I told them to see me as their father, their brother and their friend.

“And even the backroom staff I don’t see them as assistant coaches, I see them as colleagues. So I told everybody feel very free but don’t overstep your bounds, we respect one another.

“So that atmosphere, that oneness, that love and confidence among ourselves is really helping matters.”

On the new formation the team plays now: ”Still the same personels but I think what we did was we brought the boys together and ask them the formation they are comfortable with because we wanted to be flexible and they let me know the formation they’ve been using for the past few years so I took it and went to work on it and improve them on that formation.”

And on how far the Eagles can go at the ongoing AFCON, Eguavoen said: ”That’s a difficult question to answer like I said we want to take every game like a Cup final so we will see where we end.”

Anambra APC Faction Rejects Ward Congresses, Calls It Fraud

0

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has described as untrue, news of the convening of ward congresses in the state on Saturday.

Madukaife, in a press release made available to DAILY POST in Awka, said: “This is to put our membership on notice that some mischief makers are on the prowl, confusing those who willingly submit to their misinformation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no ward congresses of APC has been scheduled for January 15, 2022, by our party.

“Similarly none was scheduled for January 08, 2022, and as contained in our last public statement, certainly none was fixed on January 03, 2022, or any other date.

“These dates are the product of 419 from persons working to destabilize our dynamic chapter, with the support of persons outside Anambra State for partisan interests connected to 2023 presidential elections.”

He said those succumbing to the notice are people who have been defrauded, and that the National Secretariat of the party has not fixed any dates for congresses and would not do so without necessary consultations.

“Please be further reassured that only authentic congress dates will be announced by this office and shall be a reliable guide, as provided by the National Secretariat.

“We seize this opportunity to reaffirm that the LG Party Chairman for Nnewi South LGA remains Mr Linus Eze, while the only Acting Chairman at LG Level is Okwudili Ezenwamma, who is Deputy Chairman who constitutionally succeeded Mr PaulChuks Umenduka in Aguata Local Government.

“Any directives outside the mentioned officers are ultra vires, of no effect and should be ignored.

“Party members will be well-advised to be wary of constitutionally sacked persons from high offices, intent on going down with everyone and their backers who are watering the fruit of discontent in our great party,” Madukaife said.

And ahead of the weekend game Fuludu, a member of the Eagles’ 1994 AFCON winning squad, urged the team not to get carried away.

“When we start well like this complacency sets in, lackadaisical attitude can also set in,” Fuludu said on Brila FM.

“When it comes to the level when we are suppose to perform we no longer perform and that is the bane of our Super Eagles.

“So I pray sincerely that it does not occur again, that we should be mindful of those teams that are not in the league of the likes of Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon and Morocco. Sudan and Guinea-Bissau can become another issue for the Eagles and I just hope we put up a five star performance.”
