0

Fans and supporters of Katsina United Football Club have been banned by the League Management Company (LMC) from showing up at the stadium during home matches in the ongoing 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The club’s spokesman, Nasir Gide, made the disclosure on Monday in Katsina.

According to Gide, LMC conveyed the decision to the club in a letter addressed to the club Chairman, Abdulsamad Badamasi, following the security breaches from the home fans who verbally assaulted match officials during the encounter between the home team and Gombe United FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium recently.

The letter indicated that “LMC decided to take the disciplinary action following the report of the assault during the match played at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Meanwhile, the management of Katsina United FC has called on its supporters to shun acts capable of causing the club to be sanctioned or asked to pay a fine by the LMC.

The management urged them to always conduct themselves in good manners whenever the team is playing.

Court Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Till Wednesday, Frowns At DSS Not Allowing Him Change Cloth

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, adjourned further proceedings in the case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, till Wednesday.

The adjournment followed Kanu’s complain that the Federal Government failed to promptly serve him the fresh 15-count amended charge it brought before the court.

Kanu, through his team of lawyers led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome, further accused FG of denying him the necessary facility to defend the charge against him.

Ozekhome, SAN, told the court that the amended charge was served on them, barely 24 hours to the scheduled hearing.

“My lord, the proposed amended charge was served on us yesterday evening. As I speak to you my lord, the Defendant who was just brought in, has not even seen the charge which he is being told to enter his plea.

“With due respect, that is not Justice. It is ambushing. I know that the Administration if Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, allows them to amend, but this is the 6th amendment they are making, and each time they do it, they serve us a day to the hearing, just to frustrate the trial”, Ozekhome added.

On his part, the Prosecution team, led by Mr. Mohammed Labaran from the Federal Ministry of Justice, said he was not opposed to the court granting a short adjournment to enable the defence lawyers to study the charge.

Meanwhile, before adjourning the case till Wednesday, trial Justice Binta Nyako, ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to allow Kanu to have a change of cloth.

“I don’t want to see him in this cloth again. This one is almost off-white. Also make sure that you allow him to exercise”, Justice Nyako added.

[OPINION] High Chief Ikechi Emenike And His Burden Of Unguarded Temperament, By Engr Agu Ndukwe Orji

0

Like a Cannon Fodder , it’s pitiable Chief Ikechi Emenike could descend so low in a desperate attempt to score cheap political points and attempt to misguide the judgement of unsuspecting members of the public in his letter of reply to the invitation extended to him by the National Reconciliation Committee of APC led by H.E Senator Abdullahi Adamu ( former Govermor of Nasarawa State).

Against the run of play, enstranged Chief Emenike whimsically abandoned the subject of his invitation and resorted to grandstanding and needless vituperation against the former Govermor of Abia State and Distinguished Senate Chief Whip Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

One wonders what could have blinded Chief Emenike to stray into the dark recesses of misdemeanor and malicious falsehood against Senator Orji Kalu except his uncontrollable Temperament which character will never allow him pretend about his fears for OUK’s personality and elaborate results-oriented political establishment with visible tentacles in every nooks and corners of the Nigerian Federation.

It sounds despicable and defeatist in a democratic dispensation that Chief Emenike still adorns himself as the body , soul and spirit of APC in a State like Abia , otherwise, how could one imagine his choice of derogatory categorization of notable Abians like Senator Chris Adighije, Dr Sam Nkire, Hon Benjamin Kalu , Senator Nkechi Nwogu, Dr Emeka Wogu , Dr Alex Otti , Chief Ume Kalu SAN , Dr Chidia Maduekwe , Gen Ihejirika (rtd) , Dr Uche Ogah , Rt Hon Stanley Ohajuruka, Hon Emeka Atuma, Etigwe Uwa SAN , Rt Hon Martins Azubike, Rt Hon Prince Arua Arunsi who are card carrying members of APC as belonging to Senator Orji Kalu’s group.

In 2019, Senator Orji Kalu delivered his polling unit, ward, LGA and Abia North Senatorial zone to APC in the general Elections , this success story brought over 65% votes to President Buhari ( the highest in the South East and South South Geo political zones of Nigeria ) , Produced two Federal House of Representatives members and 3 State Assembly Members for the first time in APC , all from Abia North Senatorial zone.
Same cannot be said of Chief Emenike who lost in all the elections from his polling unit to the Senatorial level including the Presidential Election. what could have made Chief Emenike feel he can arrogate Abia APC to an individual in utter exclusion of major and critical stakeholders and come out successful in any Election ?
As a former Govermor with towering democratic credentials, OUK has acquitted himself creditably well with Abia APC and Electorates through wide consultations, servant-leadership, team Spirit and Community service delivery. These have reflected on the successes , growth and stability of Abia APC under his watch as the natural leader especially in a State like Abia without an APC Governor.

Like Macbeth, anyone who thinks he can become a king by destroying others shall only enjoy harvests of destructions as reward.

We therefore enjoin the APC reconciliation Committee and the general public to disregard Chief Emenike’s diatribe and treat same as a figment of imagination arising from an inordinate political ambition of a lone Ranger. What High Chief Ikechi Emenike seeks to make out of this smear campaign and character assassination is hardly achieved through ignoble path of needless controversy . His 2023 agenda is not bigger than the unity, peace and well being of Abia APC. OUK became Abia Govermor 21 yrs ago and let this sit down well with Chief Emenike and his band of co- travellers.

Mike Ozekhome Leads Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team As IPOB Leader Arrives Court

0

After many weeks of conjectures and permutations, the lead counsel for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Tuesday unveiled Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) as the leader of the defence counsel for Nnamdi Kanu whose trial commences today before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu arrived the court by 7am amidst tight security as operatives of the Department of State Services frisk journalists and lawyers.

As of the time of filing this report, the court had yet to commence sitting.

“Yes, I’m now in the legal team and that’s why you’re seeing me in court,” Ozekhome said.

Ejiofor had in a statement announced that the fortification of Kanu’s legal team was the Xmas Gift to Kanu when they visited him at the Headquatres of the DSS where he was being detained.

Ejiofor had however kept the identity of the person to his chest.

He had said, “I want to assure you, Umuchineke, that our legal team, is, presently, more fortified than ever to do battle in Court, and God being on our side, victory is assured. We paid our routine visit to our untiring, unwavering, unrelenting, rock-solid and noble client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the DSS detention facility at Abuja. The visit, this time, was spectacular and was greeted by an infectious air of camaraderie. Onyendu was particularly enthused by the visit and preferred to describe it as ‘A surprise Christmas Present’. You may not understand the peculiarity of this visit and the how significant it is.

“But in due course, I am certain you will be in the best position to fully appreciate the wisdom that informed it. Suffice it to say that as the lead attorney of Onyendu, I took advantage of the visit to unveil a legal giant, a distinguished and an accomplished member of the Inner Bar, whom I have chosen to fortify our defence team. The learned Senior counsel is an excellent and a consummate learned gentleman, distinguished in academics and in the practice of law in our law courts.

“The reason that informed this arrangement is my unflinching desire to throw in every weapon in our arsenal to ensure that Onyendu gets the best at all times. This latest master stroke, evident in the legal giant that has intervened, came to Onyendu as a big surprise. Although he was not oblivious of my arrangement to enlist the assistance and co-operation of a Senior Attorney, he did not know that I could get a Senior Attorney of the rarest breed.

“He was particularly delighted to welcome this legal giant, a consummate member of the Inner Bar, a legal Iroko, who has distinguished himself in the practice of law, when we visited him yesterday. I must state here and now that the Senior attorney involved has been my mentor over the years. He has worked from the sidelines with our legal team since 2016. He is a man imbued with profound intellect, legal sophistry, an infectious sense of history, much like Onyendu, and of impeccable character.

“His brilliance radiates effortlessly. He is indeed an excellent advocate. The stage which we have attained in the Court gymnastics involving Onyendu signposts an auspicious time at which to introduce the leading and erudite member of the Inner Bar to our defence team. Henceforth, he will lead our defence team in proceedings in Court.

“Further, in the course of our interaction with Onyendu, the legal giant singled me out for commendation. He paid me effusive compliments for my steadfastness, devotion, commitment and fidelity to Onyendu.

“He also variously referred to instances to buttress his conclusion. Onyendu, with a smile on his face, nodded repeatedly in approval. I was particularly touched by these references and it further fortified my firm resolution to the cause of Onyendu.”

Tinubu Best Presidential Material From South, Says Shettima

0

Former Governor of Borno state, Senator Kashim Shettima has said for equity and justice, the South ought to produce Nigeria’s next president.

Shettima, who was speaking at the Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu support group conference in Abuja on Monday, said if the Presidency moves to the South, nobody from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region is more qualified than Bola Tinubu to lead the country.

He also stated that having sacrificed so much for Nigeria and the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) it was time to reciprocate.

Apparently speaking on the backdrop of the communique issued by the Northern Leaders of Thought in Kaduna at the weekend, Shettima said the future of the country rests on the choice of a “unifier” like Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president.

He described Tinubu as a leader of leaders, a man who used his vast connection to enthrone the present administration.

He said, “While Tinubu’s political contemporaries were trading their principles for a place at the table in Abuja during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s era, and throwing their political allies under the bus, he took the risk to build a political alternative to the ruling party and his choices of candidates underlined his political credentials.

“Asiwaju’s choices and endorsements of northerners as presidential candidates while others were masterminding ethno-regional solidarity and fueling socio-cultural affinities readily affirm his pan-Nigerian profile. Where others see divisions to exploit, he sees collaborations. And it’s this patience that has brought us together today, to remember the examples he’s set and the debt we owe him”.

On the controversy in the age of Tinubu, Shettima said, “The attempts at weaving ridiculous fiction to override the history we’ve all witnessed demonstrate the detractors’ utter desperation and cowardice. One of such is the mischievous fixation on his age and the wild conclusions that he’s physically unsuitable for the Office of the President. This obsession characterizes the thinking of those who have no understanding of Asiwaju’s incredible work ethic.

“The mark of true leadership isn’t the ability to lift a bag of cement. It’s the mental effort to think rationally of solutions designed to redeem one’s people and territorial jurisdiction.

” I’m not asking you to tone down critical assessments of your future leaders, but redirect you to see the bigger picture. We are not here to prepare for the Olympics, but an institution that relies on the superiority of ideas to thrive.”

In his submission, former secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir Lawal, stated that even though the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has not lived up to expectation, they are committed to producing Asiwaju as the flagbearer of the party,

He said members of the Tinubu support groups were ready and determined to work for his emergence as the presidential candidate of the party through any method of primary that the party desires.

Lawal said in terms of who should take over from Buhari, Tinubu has no equal, adding that there is nobody like him in terms of capacity in the APC at the moment.

He therefore urged the groups to work for the success of their candidate as he has what it takes to give Nigeria a bright future.
