The Xiaomi CyberDoge robot was announced by the company at the launch of the Mi Mix 4 and Mi Pad 5 smartphones some time ago. CyberDog is the first robot product made by mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi.

In terms of outward appearance, CyberDog has a resemblance to the Spot robot made by Boston Dynamics. It’s just that the robot made by Xiaomi is equipped with the support of the world’s smallest artificial intelligence supercomputer, the AI Jeston Xavier NX made by Nvidia.

CyberDog is equipped with 11 sensors throughout its body which include touch and ultrasonic sensors. The robot dog’s head is also equipped with a number of cameras, including a panoramic lens, Intel RealSense D450 camera, LIDAR, and GPS. All of that gives CyberDog the ability to interact with the surrounding environment.

The robot is also said to be able to follow its owner and can avoid obstacles thanks to the GPS embedded in it. CyberDog owners can control it via voice commands, remote control, and phone apps.

However, not all Xiaomi phones support the CyberDog robot control feature. A number of smartphones that can support CyberDog are Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, Redmi K40, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi 10X, Redmi 10X Pro, and the last one is Mi Mix 2S.

Launching TheVerge, CyberDog behaves like a pet. The robot can also recognize spoken words and understand commands given to it.

The robot made by Xiaomi is the first phase of an open-source project intended for developers. CyberDog can be programmed and modified as per developer requirements. AFCON 2021: Ghanaian Rapper, Sarkodie Hails Nigeria’s Super Eagles

0

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has hailed the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their impressive display at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.

Nigeria is the only team at the AFCON to win all their group matches.

The Super Eagles defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 on Wednesday.

Augustine Eguavoen’s men had defeated Egypt and Sudan in their first two games.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle, Sarkodie, who adores Nigeria and has appeared on many Nigerian artistes’ songs, tweeted: “Naija on Heat,” with a Nigerian flag and Eagles emoji.

Meanwhile, Ghana was eliminated from the AFCON after losing to Comoros.

Nigerians To Wait Till June For Decision On Subsidy

0

The National Economic Council (NEC) has asked Nigerians to wait till June for a decision to be reached on the removal of fuel subsidy.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, said this while briefing the press at the end of the first NEC meeting for 2022 held in Abuja on Thursday.

“We did not make any presentation on this because there has not been a decision. But in reality, all of us, Nigerians, know that there is now the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and NNPC has now become a limited liability company,” the governor said after the 122nd NEC meeting.

“So, NNPC will run differently. So, if the Ministry of Finance provides for six months, you probably can understand part of the reasons for the provision of six months is before NNPC fully takes off and at that moment, that’s when decisions would be made.”

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who also spoke after the meeting, noted that N2.1 trillion was spent last year on fuel subsidy payments. The payments, he said, could have been used to fund other development efforts.

“Because of payment of subsidy, NNPC was unable to put that money into FAAC for distribution, which means less money going to the states and less money going to the federal government,” Obaseki added.

The NEC meeting was chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and attended physically by state governors, government officials as well as officials of the World Bank.

Also on the agenda was the launch of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus programme (NGCARES).

Nigerian-Romanian radio talk-show host and Social Media Personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, best known as Daddy Freeze have reacted to the court declaration of the arrest of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Mazi Kanu, as illegal and orders Federal Government to pay him one billionaire, thereby revealing his expectation of hundred millionaires being paid to him as his tithe.

Following the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, a State High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, has on Wednesday, ruled that the Nigerian government violated the Fundamental Human Rights of the detained IPOB leader when the military invaded his family house in Afara-Ukwu Ibeku Abia State on September 10, 2017, and also his arrest and forcefully returned to Nigeria in June 2021 was illegal on the law court and international laws, and the sum of one billionaire should be paid to him as compensation.

The court also recommended a political solution to the agitation for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic championed by IPOB.

In reaction to this; Daddy Freeze suggested that Federal Government should just add Eight Hundred Million to the Two Hundred Million bail being granted to Ismailia Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, who was arraigned of money laundering by the EFCC, and be given to Nnamdi Kanu.

He added that if the country couldn’t afford the money which is ordered to be paid to Kanu, she should go and borrow from China. Mr Freeze expressed his shock on hearing the news and stated that he didn’t believe it at first but was forced to believe it after seeing the news on different news agencies.

”Nnamdi I was not supporting you that year but now I am supporting you. If you pay your tithe, the tithe is Hundred Million. Before I was not supporting tithe but now I am supporting tithe. The tithe of one billion!”

Man Reveals How He Fainted After His Wife Told Him He’s Not The Father Of Their 14-Year-Old Daughter

0

Muridia and Yaqub Ganiyu have been living peacefully as a couple for 17 years. They are blessed with four children.

Sadly, the union is on the verge of complete collapse, owing to a startling revelation by Muridia that Yaqub is not the biological father of their 14-year-old daughter.

Yaqub, a commercial motorcyclist who is yet to come to terms with the reality of his wife’s confession, told Vanguard Metro that he fainted twice out of shock when his wife broke the news.

During a visit to his one-room apartment on Matomi Street, Alagbado, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states, the father of four said the issue had affected the teenager in question, emotionally and had also truncated the peaceful atmosphere in his home.

At the moment, the husband and wife are living apart, an action Yaqub is displeased with, as he alleged that he was mandated by So-Safe Corps, a vigilante group, to be giving his wife N5,000 weekly for the upkeep of the children.

The rosy beginning

In this interview with him, he recalled: “I met Muridia 17 years ago when she was an apprentice. I assisted her financially until she mastered the skill. Thereafter, we started dating and living together. I brought her to Lagos, from Otu Village, Oyo State, to set up a business for her.

“ We are blessed with four children, a daughter and three sons – aged 14, 8 and 4 years and three months respectively.

“Initially, things went smoothly in the family while I was working as a truck operator. At a point, I lost that job. I started riding a motorcycle in order to put food on the table.

Things fall apart

“Recently, I noticed that my wife started behaving strangely. I kept calm to allow peace reign until she brought a Tecno-5 Phone home. When I asked where she got it from, she gave a flimsy reason. I also noticed she had been communicating with a man whose identity I did not know. I had to seize the phone.

“About a month ago, she woke me up at midnight and told me that I was not the biological father of our 14-year-old daughter. She said her former boyfriend who lives in Germany is the biological father of the child. You won’t believe that this same man and I were once neighbours before he travelled abroad.

“I fainted out of shock and disbelief, twice. It was neighbours that resuscitated me. What baffled me was that the man she claimed to be the biological father is a relative and an old friend of mine. His father has two wives, one of them is my aunt.

“I later got to know that things were not going smoothly with him. When they enquired to know the cause spiritually, it was revealed that he had a child somewhere and that until he accepts the paternity of the child, there won’t be any solution to his issue.

“Initially, I thought my wife was out of her senses. I contacted her family members to pray for her so that she could get well but I didn’t know she had other plans.

Two weeks ago, she reported the matter with So-Safe Corps at Abule-Iroko, Ogun State. I was arrested and detained by the Corps. Its officials ordered me to pick up my belongings and leave our one-room apartment.

‘’It did not end there, they ordered me to return the phone I seized to her and pay N5,000 weekly, for the family upkeep. I have been homeless since then. The attention of both families have been drawn to the matter but from all indications, Muridia’s family members are in support of her action.

“I have an aged mother and an elder brother who are not medically fit to intervene.

‘’The man my wife claimed is the father of my daughter said I should stay far away from her or face the consequences, boasting that he has the financial muscle to deal with me.

“I used to have three motorcycles but sold them to enable me to fend for my family. The one I am currently using was bought on hire purchase.”

But when Vanguard Metro met Muridia, she clarified that she was already pregnant for another man who she identified as Teslim, when she met her husband.

She said: “When I discovered I was six weeks pregnant, I told Teslim about it but he sent me away and asked me to terminate it.

“Luckily for me, Yaqub walked into my life and slept with me. A few weeks later, I told him I was pregnant for him, he accepted paternity and we pulled resources together to rent an apartment. Teslim and I were in the village while Yaqub was visiting from Lagos.

“I am a hairdresser but our stay together had been hellish as Yaqub has no tangible source of income to fend for the family.

“Several attempts to walk away from the marriage were unsuccessful as he tactically tied me down with pregnancy. This is the fourth rented apartment I have paid for but he always disrupts my chances of staying alone.

“One day, I got a call from Teslim’s friend, who requested to know what happened to the pregnancy of 15 years ago, I did not give him any response.

“I was in church one day when Teslim’s relative sent a Tecno-5 phone to me because mine was faulty. Teslim called me to say he was in Germany but that settling down maritally had been difficult. He told me that upon divination, he was told to go and claim the paternity of the baby he abandoned in order to have a settled life.

“Two weeks ago, Yaqub and I had a quarrel in my shop. Neighbours intervened by contacting the So Safe Corps which effected his arrest.

“My uncle and other members of my family are aware of this matter. There are moves to conduct a DNA test to ascertain the biological father of my daughter, Zainab,” she said.

In a chat with Zainab, she innocently told Vanguard Metro: “My mummy and daddy are fighting because of me. They said something happened when I was young,”

Investigations revealed that the So Safe Corps personnel who handled the matter had opened a communication channel between Teslim and Zainab. The personnel was quoted to have threatened to re-arrest Yaqub and seized his motorcycle which is his only means of income.

When Vanguard Metro contacted the Commander, So -Safe Corps, Soji Gonzalo, on phone, he said he was at an official function in Abeokuta and would be unable to respond to her inquiry.

However, it was learnt that through the effort of a human rights activist, Comrade Adewale Ojo, the National Coordinator, Human Rights Advocacy & Monitoring Group (HURAMG), the So Safe Corps personnel has been summoned to the Corps headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State where he is being interrogated.

Efforts to reach the supposed father of the teenager failed as calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone were not attended to.

World Bank’s $750m Support Will Create Jobs, Reduce Poverty – Osinbajo

0

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has said the $750m loan from the World Bank will create jobs, complement the Federal Government’s social investment and reduce poverty in the country.

He said this is part of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s plan to take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.

The Vice President disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at the national launch of the NG-CARES programme implementation with the World Bank’s $750 million loan.

NG-CARES- is a multi-sectoral programme, which in addition to the ongoing implementation of the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), is a furtherance of the Federal Government’s response to the socio-economic fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assuring stakeholders that the programme will build on diverse and extensive interventions by the Federal Government, Prof. Osinbajo stated that the “NG-CARES programme is designed to support vulnerable and poor Nigerians, provide immediate emergency relief to smallholder farmers and SMEs that were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He also disclosed that the World Bank loan “will be over a period of 2 years (2021-2023), and the intervention allocation to each State is $20 million ex-ante and $15 million to FCT, and $15 million for the NG CARES Support Unit. The programme is to be driven by States using the Programme for Results-PforR-delivery mechanism.”

According to him,  the programme will further complement the Federal Government’s plan to scale up the number of beneficiaries of its social schemes, subsidy and grants to support individuals, households and MSMEs in the multi-year Development Plan for 2021 – 2024.

He added that the plan “was developed within the context of our response to the COVID-19 crisis and the Economic Sustainability Plan serving as the bridge.”

Explaining further, Prof. Osinbajo said “in order to ensure successful programme implementation, the Federal Government will provide quality assurance, monitoring, capacity building and technical assistance to States and FCT on project activities and results.

“Consequently, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Federal CARES Steering Committee (FCSC), the Federal CARES Technical Committee (FCTC) and the Federal CARES Support Unit (FCSU) to provide overall policy direction, technical support to all the States and FCT and advise Mr President appropriately.”

He added that he looked forward to the “prompt and effective implementation of the programme, both at the Federal and States levels,” even as he urged implementing agencies to “fully deploy their wealth of experience and expertise to ensure the successful take-off and implementation of the NG-CARES programme.”

The national launch of the NG-CARES was held ahead of the first National Economic Council meeting and was attended by State Governors, members of the Federal Executive Council, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and development partners including the World Bank Country Director Mr Shubham Chaudhuri who made a presentation on State Eligibility for the Programme.

The World Bank-supported COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, also known as NG-CARES, will leverage existing job creation, wealth creation and poverty reduction programmes at the community level.

These include programmes such as State Cash Transfer Units, Agriculture Development Agencies, Job Creation Unit/MSE Support Units supported by the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) of the Administration.

“He kidnapped her and took her to his house where he contacted her relatives and demanded a ransom of Six Million Naira (N6,000,000),” the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Police Command, Haruna Kiyawa, said on Friday.

“On the 18/12/2021, having realized that the victim recognized him, he claimed to have poisoned her to death, conspired with one Hashim Isyaku and buried her in a shallow grave within the private school premises located at Kwanar ‘Yan Gana, Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State.”

Across social media, the hashtag #JusticeForHanifa topped Facebook trend in Nigeria.

“Where are girls safe? Where are our kids safe? How low can people stoop in their quest for quick wealth?”. asked Mmiliaku Genevieve in a post on Facebook.

“This is an inhuman and barbaric act. I cannot contemplate how a sane person would separate a little girl from her parents and subsequently kill her,” wrote David Ezra Nabasu.
