Popular rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has said Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, should be rotting in jail rather than running for the presidency.

Adeyanju remarked that Tinubu, who has no known source of income, now has unaccounted billions to his name.

Speaking with DAILY POST, the Convener of Concerned Nigerian, maintained that Tinubu’s decision to run for Presidency is an insult to the sensibility of Nigerians.

The Abuja-based activist lamented that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has refused to act on a petition calling for Tinubu’s prosecution.

According to Tinubu: “It’s an absurd and insult on the integrity on the sensibility of Nigerians that a man that lacks integrity and character and is notorious for being the chief landlord of Lagos State wants to crave the country into the unfortunate situation Lagos State has found itself where he is milking the poor masses dry.

“Tinubu, who does not have any known past experience, source of income, now has unaccounted billions to the extent of moving them to his house on the eve of the last general elections, which is against the clear provision of the constitution.

“Quote on this, what he did is a gross violation of the provision of the prohibition of the money laundering Act, it’s a clear violation of section one of that Act that forbids all private citizens in Nigeria to have in their possession not more than five million naira cash.

“EFCC has received our letter, and we have a subsisting petition before the commission that we had severally insisted that Tinubu should be prosecuted for money laundering. Somebody who should be in jail is saying he wants to contest to become the president of Nigeria; what an insult to the sensibility of all Nigerians. People like him should be rotting in jail for the damage done to this country.”

Tinubu recently informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his lifelong aspiration to rule Nigeria.

He, however, noted that he was still consulting about running for the Presidency.

While doing that, it was reported that a spark occurred in the plug area, leading to a fire incident.

The suspect fled the scene as the fire raged.

Also on ground to support the operation was the Commissioner of Police, Director DSS, AIG in charge of Zone 9, and others.

The Acting Director of Abia State Fire Service, Mr. Nnanna Arua said his office received the distress call about the fire incident at about 6pm and immediately activated a response in about 5 minutes later.

He said his men made efforts to confine the fire by ensuring that it does not escalate to adjoining properties.

Mr. Arua called on those handing gasoline and other flammable products to exercise a high level of caution while discharging their products.

2023: PDP Group Threatens Mass Defection If Party Fail To Zones Presidency To South

0

Should the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, fail to zone the presidency to the South, the party is likely going to witness mass exodus, a PDP group, Vanguard for Justice, said.

It revealed that the party is bent on zoning its presidential ticket to the North, a move they said might prompt high profile defections in the South.

The PDP had recently denied zoning the presidency to the North following a claim by former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, that it had done so.

But the group in a statement by its Chairman, Emmanuel Nduka, warned the party against zoning the position to the North. It explained that zoning the presidency to the South would engender national unity, equity, and justice.

In addition, the group said the fact that most of the people pushing for power shit to the South, indicates that what Nigeria needs in 2023 is a southern president.

Specifically, elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai; Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, and Jonathan Asake of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, were cited as being among prominent northern leaders, who have called for the presidency to be zoned to the South.

According to the statement, “On Monday, January 17, 2022, governors elected under the platform of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), convened a high-powered meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The meeting was hosted by no other than the strong man of Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike, and presided over by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

“According to the governors, they had converged to review the state of the nation, and chart a way forward, especially with 2023 around the corner. At the end of the meeting, the governors released a nine-point communique, which formed their resolutions

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Muhammadu Buhari (a northerner) has spent eight years in power. The PDP, as a party, is planning to take power back to the North again. This may prompt an already impending mass exodus of PDP members to the APC, being that they feel that the APC will zone presidential power to the South, which is the right thing to do.

“This is a wind that may blow very soon, and it will come as a rude shock to the PDP. More so, it may be the end of the PDP in Nigeria’s political process.

“Secret meetings and consultations are holding concurrently in Lagos and Kano states. But the initiators when reached out to, refused to speak out on the matter. For now, they are holding back, saying that when the time is right, they will speak, and that the party as well as Nigerians, will see their faces. This may be a tsunami that will wipe out the PDP totally.”

“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently told the political class, most of whom are expecting his blessings and endorsement, that he is no longer playing partisan politics.

“ Obasanjo is consulting with actors canvassing for power shift to the South, and has reportedly succumbed. These actors have reportedly met with Obasanjo and former President Ibrahim Babangida behind closed doors after his (Obasanjo) earlier meeting with the PDP.

“Also, this may be an end to the political career of some south-south governors who are bent on being running mate to a Northern Presidential hopeful from the PDP. Some Southerners are also eyeing the nation’s number one seat.

“Zoning the Presidency to the South will rekindle Nigeria’s unity, and promote justice, equity and fairness. Surprisingly, majority of the PDP stakeholders who are pushing for power to go to the South, are Northerners. In this light, prominent Northern elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai, recently re-echoed this, stating that it will be unjust for the North to still take a shot at the Presidency in 2023 despite the agitations for power shift to the South at the expiration of President Buhari’s tenure.    “How can it be that it is always we the Northerners that will rule? There is no justice in this matter, we rule, they (South) rule that is justice. My opinion is, when Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure is over, the North should stop. He (Buhari) is finishing his eight-year tenure, and how can another Northerner contest and also go for another eight years, since each term is four years and it’s allowed to run twice? Honestly, this is not justice.”

Burkina Faso President Roch Kabore Resigns After Coup

Roch Kabore

The Burkina Faso military on Monday undertook to propose a “timetable” for the country’s return to constitutional order “within a reasonable period of time and after consultation with the active forces of the nation”.

Shortly before midnight on Monday, Roch Kabore resigned from the presidency of Burkina Faso through a letter addressed to Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henry Sandaogo Damiba, who led the coup d’état carried out on Sunday.

“In the interest of the nation, after the events that have occurred since yesterday, I have decided to resign from my functions as President of Burkina Faso, Head of Government, and Supreme Commander of the National Armed Forces,” Kabore wrote in a letter that was released after the military confirmed the coup, the dissolution of the government and Parliament, and the suspension of the Constitution.

The decision to topple Kabore was taken “with the sole objective of allowing our country to return to the right path and gather all its forces to fight for its territorial integrity… and its sovereignty,” said a spokesman for the Patriotic Movement for the Safeguarding and the Restoration (MPSR), which the military created to carry out their assault against the constitutional order.

“In the face of the continuous deterioration of the security situation that threatens the foundations of our nation, the manifest inability of the power of Roch Kabore to unite the Burkinabe to deal with the situation effectively, and following the aspirations of different social strata of the nation, the MPSR has decided to assume its responsibilities before history,” the spokesman added.

The coup plotters also announced the closure of air and land borders and the establishment of a curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time throughout the national territory. These measures will remain in force “until further order”.

But, the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) yesterday strongly condemned the military coup in Bukina Faso, calling it a democratic sacrilege that betrays hope and rewinds the clock of democratic progress in Burkina Faso and the sub-region.

Describing the military coup as an unacceptable aberration, WAEF declared that Africa could not afford to be returned to an “inglorious era when the people’s rights, freedoms and development impetus were restricted”.

The forum called for the immediate release of deposed Kabore and all others being detained and urged the military leaders to return the country to constitutional rule.

The statement reads: “The West African Elders Forum (WAEF) condemns the military takeover of government and suspension of constitutional order in Burkina Faso by a group of military officers.

“The coup is a political sacrilege that betrays hope, as it rewinds the clock of democratic progress and successes recorded in Burkina Faso and the sub-region in the past decades.

“As a forum, we are disturbed by the gradual ceding of our civil and democratic spaces to military adventurers and unelected leaders.

“We state without equivocation that the military should not be seen as the alternative to civil rule. Africa had experienced a long spell of military rule in the past and the people of the continent cannot afford to be returned to an inglorious era when the people’s rights, freedoms, and development impetus were restricted.”
