AFCON 2021: Omeruo Reveals What Happened To Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye After Eagles’s Elimination

0

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has revealed that goalkeeper Maduka Okoye did not feel fine after conceding the only goal that sent Nigeria crashing out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Omeruo defended Okoye, saying that not many goalkeepers could have saved Youssef Msakni’s second half strike.

The Netherlands-based goalkeeper has since received criticisms and bashings from Nigerians for failing to save that particular strike that led to Nigeria’s defeat to Tunisia on Sunday.

“He is not feeling fine right now, but you know, I said to him ‘Listen, you’ve been amazing. It’s been a good tournament for you’,” Omeruo told BBC Sport Africa.

“Anybody can be beaten by that goal. It’s a good strike and also it wasn’t a clear situation, because (we) the defenders were in front of him as well, so that would distract his view as well.

“I wouldn’t say that goal was his fault at all.”

Before their disappointing defeat to Tunisia, the Super had beaten Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau to qualify for the round of sixteen on maximum points.

Up next for Nigeria is their World Cup qualifying playoff against neighbors, Ghana coming up in February.

As the Rebuilder365 project is being launched in Abia, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Eze Chikamnayo, has told Abians to join hands with the Governor of the state in repositioning Abia for the better.

The Commissioner who gave the charge during the official launch of the sobriquet #Rebuilder365 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, said the Governor is rebuilding Abia for posterity, hence the need for Abians to join in the campaign in putting to a lie the shenanigans of ignorant people, political jobbers and other opportunistic elements within and outside Abia, whose stock in trade is to distort history in a revisionist move to paint Gov Ikpeazu and the state black.

Eze Chikamnayo during an interview with newsmen shortly after the launch of the Rebuilder365, noted that as part of the move to present the Governor in a good light, the Rebuilder365 campaign was launched to document and propagate the excellent performance of Governor Ikpeazu in all Abia sectors.

According to him, the Governor has performed excellently “Where the Governor met broken walls and bridges, he has built them.Where he met dysfunctional educational system, as well as a disellusioned workforce, especially in our SME sectors in Aba, he has not only rebuilt the sector, but has restored the confidence of Aba artisans”.

Today, shoe makers, fashion designers among other artisans, can make shoes, clothes, with the inscription ‘Made-In-Aba’,unlike what it ised to be”.

He said the Governor has helped in rebuilding businesses in Aba,as well as, regain their market shares not only in Nigeria but in the entire West Africa sub-region.

According to the Commissioner, the sobriquet “Rebuilder365”, is a fitting caption for the golden epoch of Gov Okezie Ikpeazu, where each day to the next 365 days, one project, policy, innovation and programmes of the Governor would be showcased through all social media platforms.

Our duty is to defeat evil with truth, darkness with light and fictions with facts in a clear manner”.

He further disclosed that the first chapter of the project (001), unveiled under the rebuilder365, was the ‘Aba fashion week’,a week long event that never existed since the creation of the State, adding that the Aba fashion week, has become an annual feature of the life of the Abia community and the Aba business environment, wherein Aba artisans both young and old are celebrating excellence as found in Aba. “It is the correlation of Governor Ikpeazu’s effort to bring confidence back to the Aba Entrepreneurs”.

The commissioner stated that with the Governor’s efforts, anyone trying to demarket the state and Abians both home and abroad, would be face with swift response.

Abians should quickly disown anybody by whatsoever name called or position occupied, making moves to demarket Abia.

“Abia is our collective heritage.Abia is a God’s own state, therefore,we must rise up in unism to defend the name Abia and what it stands for”, the Commissioner stated.
