Benin Prison: We Will Free Sunday Igboho Magically ― Agbekoya

0

Agbekoya farmers society of Nigeria has disclosed that it will deploy magical power to free detained Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, (popularly referred to as Sunday Igboho) if the government of Benin Republic continues to hold him illegally.

Speaking during a peaceful rally on “State of the Nation” in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Thursday, the association’s President, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola said Igoho is not criminal, but a freedom fighter and he is been held illegally through the influence of Nigerian Government on Benin Republic.

“Sunday Igboho is not a criminal and we know he is being held illegally, Benin Republic Government has stopped taking him to court, hence, we demand that he should be released through legal means, if they refuse, we will use our magical power to get him out of the prison. I repeat, we Agbekoya, will get him out of Benin Republic detention and bring him back home”, he said.

On the Nigeria socio-economic situation, Okikiola called for a reversal to the 1960 constitution or restructuring the country before the 2023 general elections, adding that without such step the country will not progress, irrespective of who is elected as president.

He decried the spate of insecurity across the country, warning of the grave consequences of taking the masses for granted by politicians.

“It is pertinent that we revert to the 1960 constitution and the different regions will have the privilege of enjoying good governance without having to struggle for Presidency. And if that will be difficult, we should restructure the country inorder to enjoy adequate security of lives and property.

“The FG may decide to hold the election without listening to the yearnings of Nigerians on restructuring, but we are of the view that whoever is elected would not achieve anything under the present constitutional arrangement.

“It is also pertinent to add that politicians should stop taking Nigerians for granted, because the consequences, with time, will be too enormous for the country to remain together again”, he said.

Okikiola also advocated for a constitutional role for traditional rulers, as a means to check insecurity within the rural areas.

The rally which was attended by members of Agbekoya across the Southwest states had members bearing banners with inscriptions such as, “free Sunday Igboho”, Southwest Governors should rise and save Yorubaland from invasion of bandits, kidnappers, ritualists, rapists, etc.”, “Bandits now have colony within our country” among others.

The protesters converged on Olaitan from where they moved through Odi-Olowo, Asubiaro, Isale-Osun, Idi-Omo to Ataoja, Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun’s palace, where they submitted a letter to the royal father on their demands from the President.

Igbo Presidency: Nigerians In UK Urge Afenifere, PANDEF, Middlebelt Forum, Others To Support Orji Kalu

0

Following their resolve to back an Igbo presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Nigerians in UK under the aegis of Nigerians in Diaspora Elders have urged Afenifere, Middlebelt Forum, Tiv Nation, Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and others to support Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

While congratulating the ethnic nationalities for their unequivocal resolve that the Igbos should produce the next president of Nigeria, Nigerians in Diaspora Elders recalled that in a recent press statement, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, categorically declared that the presidency should go to the South in 2023 and urged all political parties to zone their presidential ticket to the South.

In a release issued by Idris Mohammed, spokesperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Elders, the group also recalled that the leader of the Yoruba Nation Self-determination group, Chief Ayo Adebanjo through the Secretary-General of Afenifere, Chief Shola Ebideni noted that Southern presidency is a means to an end, stating that the 1999 constitution is dangerously skewed against the Igbo man.

While recommending Sen. Kalu for adoption as presidential candidate, the group described the former Abia governor as a nationalist, bridge builder and successful businessman, saying he is qualified for the job.

Nigerians in Diaspora Elders stated that the issue of Igbo Presidency is a shared sentiment which the PANDEF, Middlebet Forum, Tiv Nation and other regional groups have expressed support for, urging them to see Sen. Kalu as their candidate of choice.

The spokesperson of the UK Elders noted that this extension of friendship by the Yorubas has long been expected and it has pleased God that at this time, it is coming through the foremost Pan-Yoruba group which has consistently, defended the rights of the Yoruba and other ethnic minorities in Nigeria.

“Special kudos also go to PANDEF, Middlebet Forum, Tiv Nation, and others for stretching towards political justice for the Igbos without ethnocentric drawbacks.

“It is therefore against this backdrop that the diasporean elders recommend the Chief Whip of the Federation, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, to Afenifere, PANDEF, Middlebelt Forum, Tiv Nation, and other groups for endorsement on the basis that he is internationalist, a businessman, a philanthropist, and a bridge-builder amongst others,” the release added.

“I don’t have any agent and nobody is intensifying my candidature to coach Ghana,” Rohr told Nigeria’s NationSports. “Of course, some countries contacted m and not me contacting them.

“It would be difficult for me to fight against my former team,” he continued when pressed further on why he does not want the Ghana job.

Rohr was sacked as Eagles coach just few weeks before the commencement of this year’s AFCON in Cameroon.

During his time as Eagles coach he qualified the team for the 2018 World Cup and two AFCONs (2019 and 2021).

Egypt Eyes Record AFCON Final Appearance Ahead Cameroon Clash

0

The two most successful sides in the history of the AFCON Pharaohs of Egypt and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon go head to head in Thursday’s semi-final for who will face Senegal in the final on Sunday.

Both sides last met in the final back in 2017, when Cameroon came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory and secure a fifth continental title.

Cameroon have enjoyed a sensational AFCON campaign and will feel confident in their chances of reaching a second final in five years.

On their part, Egypt will be eyeing a Africa Cup of Nations record when they face the hosts on today’s huge contest.

If the seven-time African champions beat Cameroon, they will become the first team to feature in 10 AFCON finals.

They and Black Stars of Ghana hold the record for the most appearances in the final (nine) and will hope to achieve the feat by overcoming Cameroon.

While the duo of Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi have caught the eye in attack for Cameroon, Collins Fai, Jean-Charles Castelletto, Michael Ngadeu and Nouhou Tolo have been solid at the defensive end of the pitch and we expect them to start for the third game running.

At the centre of the park, Nicolas Moumie Ngamaleu and Napoli’s Andre Zambo Anguissa have been ever-present for Cameroon, featuring in all five games at the tournament, and we expect them to be tasked with winning the midfield battle once again.

For Egypt, they remain without Hamdi Fathi after the Al Ahly midfielder picked up an injury in last Wednesday’s game against Ivory Coast, meaning Ayman Ashraf will push for a second consecutive start.

Fellow Al Ahly teammate Akram Tawfik is also out of contention for the Pharaohs after the 24-year-old sustained a severe injury in the opening game against Nigeria which saw him come off inside the opening 11 minutes.

They will also be without former West Bromwich Albion man Ahmed Hegazy, who was hooked off at half time against Morocco through injury.

Having seen the goalkeeping duo of Mohamed El-Shenawy and Gabaski come off injured in their last two games, Egypt are left with third-choice Mohamed Sobhy, who made his national team debut in the aforementioned game.

And with his goal and assist against the Atlas Lions, Salah has now scored or assisted three of the North Africans’ four goals so far and the Liverpool man’s presence will definitely give the Cameroon defenders some thinking to do.
