Lukaku Can Never Be A Starter At Inter Milan – Di Canio

The Belgian, who left the Italian champions in the summer, has struggled on his return to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has five goals in 17 league games and was benched for the Carabao Cup Final loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

“He’d be very expensive considering that he’d be a reserve in this Inter side,” Di Canio told Sky Sport Italia of Lukaku returning to Inter at the end of the season.

“Inter have a different playing style, with more quality and a striker [Edin Dzeko] almost playing as an attacking midfielder.

“Lukaku doesn’t have this quality.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of $8.5 million for immediate evacuation of about 5,000 Nigerians that flee the Russia, Ukrainian war to Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

The Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Minister, who was flanked by her counterpart, the Minister of Humanitarian, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, said the approval came after a joint memo presented by both the ministries of foreign affairs and Humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development at the council meeting.

Dada said that Air Peace and Max Air airlines have been contracted to provide three aircraft and run as many shifts as possible to facilitate the evacuation, adding that those to be evacuated include 940 from Romania, 150 from Slovakia and 350 from Poland who have registered for evacuation.

Speaking on the amount approved, Dada said, “The ministry of humanitarian affairs wrote a memo to the president seeking for funding to enable us conduct this exercise. The memo was in the tune of $8.5 million which Mr. President has graciously approved. That provision entails arrangement to evacuate not less than 5,000 Nigerians .

“Whatever happens you can be rest assured we are going to run any number of shifts that it will involved. Don’t forget it will also involve taking care of those Nigerians that may decide not to come back. It also include some assistance for the feeding that may have been done by the missions under whatever arrangements. Even the missions themselves are also in dire situations. So it’s a whole gambit of activities that are involved.”

Asked if the amount will be released immediately for the exercise, the Minister said: “That is why the evacuation flights will begin today (Wednesday).”

On students trapped in Ukrainian cities now in the hands of Russians, Dada said: “we want to believe the Russian armed forces will obey the rules of engagement. They know the rules about civilians that are caught up in situations such as this. We want to assume they will respect international laws and ensure that no harm comes to them.

“Don’t forget that even our missions in Ukraine has had to be evacuated. So if for any reason any Nigerian is left behind, we are very very prayerful, we are very hopeful that no harm shall come to them once of course they are in some shelters or whatever place they are hiding.

“Don’t forget we had also summoned both the Russian and Ukrainian ambassadors to our ministry, and we did emphasis the need for their troops to ensure that they do not do anything that will harm the lives of innocent citizens.

“We have seen video clips making the rounds about the alleged treatment that had been meted out to black people who were on queues and in buses and all that. All these we have brought to the attention of the ambassadors and we have expressed our displeasure at this development and demanded that they do something about this.”

Borussia Dortmund Considering Move For Werner

0

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea forward Timo Werner, who is expected to move on this summer.

Borussia Dortmund Considering Move For Werner

Chelsea signed Werner from RB Leipzig for £45million in 2020, but the 25-year-old has largely been disappointing.

Werner has made just six league starts for Blues this season with Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz being preferred in an attack by the German coach.

Dortmund’s interest in Werner stems from concerns that they will lose Erling Haaland in the summer.

The Norwegian is being strongly tipped to head to England or Spain in a big-money deal and Dortmund will need to find a replacement.

Despite his struggles in England, Werner was hugely impressive in his homeland. A return of 28 goals from 34 Bundesliga outings in 2019-20 prompted Chelsea to make their move.

The report adds that Dortmund is confident Werner can rediscover his best form in his homeland, hence the interest.

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury says his clash with Dillian Whyte is like “the Ferrari racing the Vauxhall Corsa”.

Fury Predicts Easy Victory Against Dillian Whyte

Fury would put his world title on the line against mandatory challenger Whyte
on April 23.

The bout is scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in London.

Although Fury has labeled Whyte as “a dangerous” fighter, the 33-year-old feels that he should “look like Muhammed Ali” against the fellow British fighter.

“He’s no different to any other fighter in my career. They are all dangerous, got a puncher’s chance and want to win, and they know that riches and glory await victory,” he told reporters at a press conference.

“If I can’t look like Muhammed Ali against this guy, then I’m not as good as I think I am. I will chop him to bits, not a problem. I will smash his face right in. You are going to see a boxing masterclass. You are going to see the difference in levels. You are going to see the Ferrari racing the Vauxhall Corsa.

“There are levels to this game. I’m not saying that Dillian Whyte isn’t capable of winning a fight, he’s won nearly 30, but there is a gulf in class.”

Promoter Frank Warren said that Whyte was “disgraceful” for not making an appearance at Tuesday’s media briefing.

Nigeria Football Federation has described as “shocking” the death of Pastor (Dr) Emmanuel Sunny Ojeagbase, the Chairman of Complete Communications Limited, who passed on at the weekend in the United States of America.

NFF Mourns Late Sports Journalism Icon, Sunny Ojeagbase

President of the NFF Amaju Melvin Pinnick stated that the departed oracle of sports writing and sports publishing carved a bold niche for himself in the profession, made a profound impression on the terrain as he tutored and mentored those who came to be the firedogs of the following decades and left his giant footprints in the sands of time.

“Anyone in the line of football, nay sports knew Pastor (Dr) Sunny Ojeagbase. He was the authentic legend of sports writing and sports publishing and even went into other terrains that people thought were not possible. We are shocked by his death at this time because he still had so much to give. However, God loves him much more and he has taken him at the appointed time, Pinnick said.

“Our joy is that he lived a full, fruitful, and fulfilled life. On behalf of the Nigeria Football family, we pray that Almighty God will grant him eternal rest and also grant the family he has left behind, as well as the Complete Communications family, the fortitude to bear this great loss.”

While the likes of Peter Osugo (Pecos), Ishola Folorunsho (Mr. It’s A Goal), Solomon Babatunde Oshuntolu (ESBEE), and Bisi Lawrence cut the trees in the sports journalism jungle, Emmanuel Sunny Ojeagbase, at the lead of other illustrious names including Mitchel Obi, Ikeddy Isiguzo, Chris Okojie, Gboyega Okegbenro, Ejiro Omonode, Kunle Solaja, Sam John, Mumimi Alao, Tunde Sulaiman, Muyiwa Daniel, and Dave Enechukwu did the hard lifting and put in the hard days to make sports writing and sports reporting a glowingly attractive field.

Soft-spoken, self–effacing, unclamorous yet far-sighted, Ojeagbase made sports reporting an outstanding section in The Guardian Newspapers in the early 1980s, before leaving in 1984. The same year, he founded Sports Souvenir which became Nigeria’s first all-sport publication, to which he added Complete Sports, Complete Football International, Complete Football Extra, Sports Digest, ISR, and other publications in the following decades, creating a media behemoth that in turn nurtured geniuses and prodigies who went on to dominate the profession with nonchalance brilliance.

The Federal Government on Tuesday disclosed plans to improve the level of implementation of donour-financed projects in the country.

According to the government, the implementation process is affected by challenges such as bureaucratic bottlenecks, capacity challenges, political interference, and obtaining varied and misaligned approvals processes between local authorities and development partners.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and Nation Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said these factors had led to Nigeria’s low ranking in terms of the level of implementation of projects funded by the World Bank.

Ahmed disclosed these at a retreat for members of the National Assembly on process optimization in donor-financed projects in Nigeria.

The conference with the theme, “Process optimisation in donor-financed projects in Nigeria,” is part of efforts to foster a new level of synergy and collaboration with the National Assembly to further accelerate the level of implementation of donor-financed programmes and projects in Nigeria.

The minister said the need to organise the retreat is predicated on the government’s desire to deliver planned projects for sustained growth and national development.

One of the critical sources of funds for the execution of key projects in Nigeria is through donor financing, especially, from multilateral bodies such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

The minister while admitting the funding gap said that when borrowed funds were not properly utilised, growth was impaired and economic development distorted.

She said, “An in-depth review of the level of implementation of the entire development projects reveal that delays in the execution of donor-funded projects stem from factors including bureaucratic bottlenecks, capacity challenges, political interference and challenges associated with obtaining varied and misaligned approvals processes between our local authorities and development partners.

Group of Young Nigerians, under the auspices of #TakeBackNaija# Movement, has promised the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), of over ten million votes at the 2023 presidential election if they present former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, as the party standard bearer.

The National Coordinator of the group, Ali Mohammad, who made this known in Yenagoa after an interactive session with youth groups and other stakeholders ahead of party primaries, pleaded with the PDP leadership to consider Peter Obi as the presidential flag bearer, considering the fact that what is at stake in 2023 is beyond party politics, but a case of rescuing the about-to-collapse country.

Mohammad stressed further that Nigeria was in dire need of competent leaders with proven track records of integrity in public office.

In the statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Mohammed pointed out that they were mobilising young and qualified Nigerians across the country to join the movement.

The group said they had identified the former vice presidential candidate for the PDP at the 2019 elections, adding that Peter Obi remained the best in the party currently.

They appealed to the PDP to adopt him as their consensus candidate, “he has what it would take to turn the tides of the country around going by his past record as the governor of Anambra State, and most importantly his vast knowledge on economic policy, good governance, and purposeful leadership, which is what the country lacked at the moment,” he said.

The group also noted that PDP had a track record of ensuring equity and justice since her formation and should give the a sense of belonging, having not had the opportunity to produce either a president or vice president since the return of democracy in 1999.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lamented the extent of decay in Nigeria’s education system and called for all-inclusive reforms to effectively rescue the sector.

Obasanjo who expressed this worry when the leadership of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) paid him a courtesy visit at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said unless the entire system was totally overhauled and reformed, the country’s education sector would continue to decline.

The delegation, which was led by the Chairman of the CVCNU, Professor Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, was in Abeokuta, Ogun State to intimate the former president on the forthcoming 60th-anniversary ceremony of the association.

While welcoming the delegation, Obasanjo said, “One of the things we haven’t gotten right in Nigeria is education and if we get it right; it will be the basis of getting a number of other things right.”

He canvassed for government at all levels to make education accessible and affordable to all at all levels.

Obasanjo urged the leadership of CVCNU to restrict itself to nominations and assemblage of the necessary credentials for the appointment of vice-chancellors, which he said should be the prerogative of state governors at the state-owned universities and the president at federal universities.

Earlier, the chairman of CVCNU said the purpose of the visit was to tap from Obasanjo’s wealth of experience having served as the Visitor to all the nation’s federal universities during his eight years rule as president.

Edoumiekumo expressed the hope that their visit to the ex-president ahead of the celebration of CVCNU would assist them to have a successful outing.
