Lassa Fever Killed Two Doctors In Oyo Within 72 Hours - NMA

This was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the NMA Oyo branch chairman, Ayotunde Fasunla.

“The NMA announces, with deepest regret and sorrow, the demise of two of her members from Lassa Fever,” the statement reads.

“The tragic deaths occurred within a space of 72 hours. It is indeed a sad week, and our eyes are still soaked in tears.

“While we thought that COVID-19 had done its worst, we are now dealing with another onslaught of a Lassa fever outbreak.

“Furthermore, we are worried about other health workers who have had contact with the diseased unknowingly. We have advised them to quarantine and report if they develop any symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever.”

Fasunla said the NMA has appealed to its members to treat all febrile illnesses with a high index of suspicion.

He said the association had also instructed its members to be cautious and vigilant at all times.

“Not only for the sake of their health and safety but also in the interest of the patients and public health,” the statement reads.

“Members, especially the frontline doctors and other health workers, must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) at all times.

“We appeal to the management of health institutions in the state to make PPEs readily available, as well as soap and running water for handwashing immediately after attending to patients.

“This is to protect our members and other healthcare workers from contracting transmissible infections.

“We appeal to the Oyo State Government to conduct intensive surveillance and sensitization on Lassa Fever outbreaks in the affected communities as well as across all local government areas in the state.

“We commiserate with the families of our colleagues who lost their lives in the course of performing their professional duties to the service of humanity. May their gentle soul rest in peace.”

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria recorded 450 cases of Lassa fever and 86 deaths as of February 20. Of this number, Oyo accounts for 13 cases and one death.

The two West African giants will clash in the playoff later this month.

The first leg will take place at the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25, with the reverse fixture to be staged at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja four days later.

Eguavoen believes the Super Eagles are in a better position to qualify for the World Cup than their rivals.

“There is no doubt in my mind. I am a Nigerian, a full-blooded Nigerian, and if you asked me such a question, I think, without missing words, we deserve a place at the World Cup,” he told Ghanasportspagea.

Despite being confident in his side, the former defender is expecting a tough duel between both teams.
“It’s going to be a very tough game and a tight one as well,” Eguavoen added.

“We have a lot of mutual respect for one another, and when Ghana plays Nigeria and Nigeria plays Ghana, it’s always tough, it’s always tight. But you see, it’s going to boil down to us trying to go there (Ghana).

“We will play everything we can to try to win the game, in fact, both games, but with no disrespect because Ghana is a very strong side, individually and collectively. We will just go and fight and try to win the game.”

Manchester United defender Paul Parker says the Red Devils should attempt to offload club captain Harry Maguire during the next transfer window.

Manchester United Should Sell Maguire - Paul Parker

Maguire has struggled for form this season, with his performances being called into question by fans, pundits, and former Manchester United players.

The Red Devils paid a staggering £80m to sign the center-back from Leicester City in 2019.

Parker stated that United should consider selling the 28-yea-old if they receive an offer close to that fee.

“If United, in my opinion, were to get somewhere near to their money back on Harry Maguire, I think they’ll have to think about it,” he told The Express.

“I think [Victor] Lindelof and [Raphael] Varane, you know, they could build something on there maybe, in a mode of what they’re looking for and where the club wants to be.

“You’re talking about players who are definitely more agile, a little bit quicker, better defenders in one against one situation and I think you have to look at it that way. Me, personally, for United to go forward, that’s the starting area.”

Maguire still has more than three years left to run on his contract with the 20-time English champions, who are back in action against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Former governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP).

Kwankwaso had held talks with the leadership of NNPP a few days ago.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso said preparations were in top gear and he would announce his next step of action before the end of March.

Although he did not give elaborate details and reasons for choosing NNPP, recently Kwankwaso said the two leading parties (APC and PDP), have nothing to offer Nigerians in 2023.

“I didn’t see anything that either APC or PDP will show or tell Nigerians to get convinced and vote for them in the coming 2023 elections.”

“So I think people should now come to think of the right party and people to support and vote for so that we can rescue the present situation.

“In 2015, we gave the leadership of the state to some, thinking that they will make it, but not knowing that it won’t yield any positive outcome. That is why we are back to rescue our state,” Kwankwaso had said.

Also speaking to the BBC Hausa service, an associate of the former governor, said poor handling of the leadership crisis in Kano PDP forced Kwankwaso to exit the party.

Last month, Kwankwaso had joined forces with some of his associates to launch a new movement ‘The National Movement, TNM

It’s Too Late To Deny EbubeAgu, IPOB Replies Gov. Uzodimma

0

THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday, blasted the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, over his denial of Ebubeagu Security Network, saying his denial is belated.

IPOB also said that Governor Uzodinma’s denial of the security outfit when he was asked questions about their alleged infamous, unruly and murderous activities contradicted his earlier position which is allegedly creating confusion everywhere in Imo State.

IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful,, entitled: “It is too late for Hope Uzodimma to deny Ebubeagu Security outfit” alleged that the Senator Uzodimma-led Imo State government set up the security outfit for odd jobs.

IPOB’s statement read: “We are the great family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, under the command and leadership of our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Our attention has been drawn to the recent confession by Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, over the operation of the infamous Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.

“Govermor Hope Uzodimma denied knowing any activities of Ebubeagu security outfit in Imo State when he was asked about the infamous activities of Ebubeagu in the state. The denial by Uzodimma has contradicted his earlier position thus, creating confusion everywhere.

“Governor Uzodimma should be told that it’s too late for him to deny Ebubeagu, the militia group he set up for odd jobs against his political opponents and IPOB. Now, the enemies’ camp in the region is confused and he is denying them.

“IPOB has it on good authority that Senator Hope Uzodimma made the controversial statement in one of the gatherings he attended some days back when he was asked about the activities of Ebubeagu in Imo State. Uzodimma told the gathering that anywhere people see Ebubeagu, they should kill them. But we know the antics of the infamous governor. He is only telling lies about Ebubeagu.

“IPOB gathered through intelligence that out of anger, Ebubeagu team went to Imo State police area command in Orlu to complain about the latest development by the governor. But unfortunately, it resulted into some confrontation that led to the killing of two Ebubeagu militia men by the police in the area.

“Ebubeagu in retaliation killed one DPO and six other inspectors of police in Orlu Police command,”IPOB’s statement claimed

Nigeria Will Be In Doom If Credible Leaders Are Not Elected In 2023 — Atiku

0

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has warned that Nigeria will be doomed if the people failed to elect the right leaders to bring the country out of its present state.

Addressing members of the PDP caucus of the House of Representatives in Abuja, Atiku said this is the last chance for the country to get it right.

“Any failure to elect the right leaders now means Nigeria is doomed. That is why this election is not for us or our personal interests, it is about salvaging the country and I want to seek your support to help me do that,” he said.

The PDP presidential hopeful also noted that it is his passion for the progress and development of the country that drives his quest for the presidency, disclosing that he is already working on a policy document that will guide him in the implementation of solutions to the country’s problems.

“We owe a debt to this nation. Despite all abilities we have, I feel unfulfilled when I seat back and see how Nigerians travel to have access to basic life requirements.

“Nigerians are in desperate need of us and that is why we have to offer them the best.

“And this time, more than ever before, we need a leader with vast experience who will fight for the people and a president who can bring this country together.

“I guarantee you that I have what it will take to be that kind of president. Therefore, I seek your support.

“This victory of our party depends on the candidate we produce at the primary elections at all levels. That is why we must choose those that can easily win at the secondary election,” he said.

In his response, the House Minority Leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, said Atiku has the mental and physical capacity needed to drive PDP to win the election.

He said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has corrupted the country, but urged the presidential aspirants to put themselves together and work for the unity of the party as a panacea towards winning the election
